I have wandered the Dragon Empires for over a decade now. I once served Lord Hiritoshi, vassal of the Great Dragon. Life was as the greatest poet's dream. But dream's cannot last.
War claimed him, as it did many of my friends and allies. I became ronin that day, shamed as I was. For these past years my only companion has been my sword, Black Sparrow, and my only wish its mastery. Sometimes, it seems hard to keep track of the enemies my blade has slain. Yet still, despite the weight of their souls hanging over me, I search for that warrior that can defeat me. A duelist of perfect form, one who will finally grant me the death that I have sought since my lord perished on the field of Inomikata, the Field of Fallen Flowers.
I'll go ahead and post some interest, just to raise the odds of making a third group slightly higher. Mind if I work out a concept, or would you prefer to wait and see if more interest shows up before you dig through more concepts?
I've always run it that the favored class bonus is applied after all the other bonuses and penalties. Given that a 7 gives a -3 penalty, the base would be 2-3, so the minimum 1, plus favored class bonus, so 2 points a level. Normally, though, you can only put an ability down to 8.
Why do you need the 15 charisma, and why do you think a human can get orc things?

Mine's not injured or anything, he's just fed up with his stupid son running around trying to become a famous swordsman, when all he's really doing is beating people up for money and spending it on beer and whores.
The heavy rending of metal was swiftly followed by the sound of a blade meeting flesh and bone. The murder of crows above fluttered about, but came to rest moments later. The bandit before him fell, lifeless, to the ground. Taking a few breaths to wait for certainty's sake, Kastus of Rostland wiped the blood from his blade. Clean once more, the large sword was swiftly stowed back in its leather adorned scabbard upon the man's back. Metallic scale shifted and clinked as he did so, and continued as Kastus began to dig through the dead man's pockets. "I guess the stories were right. They really do need people to clear this place of idiots. Lucky me I wandered into that tax office by mistake!"
Kastus of Rostland, warrior by trade, was raised on the long plains south of Restov. His home life could be said to be simple enough. What more is there to say about a farmer's son, except that they generally do not wish to grow up to be farmers? The same is true of Kastus. While his father was busy with the fields, Kastus would practice with sticks, and eventually small logs. When his nameday came, Kastus left for the city of Restov with his father's old war sword. Hoping to enter the Aldori school, he was given a swift thrashing at his entrance test, and a scant few words of encouragement. Never one to pity himself, Kastus set out finding a school that fit his own style. The answer to his search was that no one really taught undisciplined farm hands the sword. At that point, Kastus gave up looking for a teacher and simply looked for work. It was here that his fortunes turned. While no one might teach the sword to farmhands, plenty were willing to pay for another strong body with a metal stick to stand around and guard things.
Far from his dream, Kastus spent years working odd jobs. It wasn't until he stumbled drunkenly into a tax office that he heard about the expedition. Hoping he had finally found a way to put his self-taught skills to a real test, he signed on.
Plot Hook 1: Kastus has made many enemies over the years, mostly from rival mercenaries and thieves. Most particularly is the Company of the Black Lantern, a group of unscrupulous thugs and lowlifes who will do any job that pays well. Kastus left their leader with a face-rending scar at their last meeting, and he is still out for blood.
Plot Hook 2: His father, having gotten tired of waiting for his son to wise up and come back home, has sent out men to find and forcefully return his son, no matter the circumstances.
A Reason to Never Look Back: This might be the only opportunity Kastus has to finally prove that he can wield a sword with the best of them, to make a legend for himself. Even if he isn't a swordlord, at least somebody will respect him when this is all over with.

"Do I know why Shalelu took me under her wing? I couldn't really say, Sheriff. Maybe she needed a friend who happened to be an elf. Perhaps she sees some sort of promise or hidden talent in me. Heck, maybe she just thinks it's fun to have a friend on these wilderness outings. Like I said before, I don't really know." The young elf swallows the last of his beer, setting down the empty mug. Gazing about the innards of the Rusty Dragon, he sighs in contentment, smiling. "But, you know, I'm really glad that she did."
Thuriel Avathanas wandered into Sandpoint one day about 60 years ago, draped across the back of Shalelu Andosana. Having found him lost and starved in the forest, Shalelu had graciously taken Thuriel back to civilization. Once he had actually recovered, Shalelu scolded him as she might chide any youngling in the town about wandering in the forest. Admitting to his foolishness, Thuriel thanked Shalelu profusely for saving him. He was, he admitted, still planning on going out again. Though the elven woman seemed about to slap him, he quickly confided that he had lost his only keepsake of his family: their ancestral blade. Stolen by goblins during his travels down the coast, he had been searching for them, obviously with little luck.
Perhaps she simply felt sorry for Thuriel, but whatever the reason, Shalelu agreed to help Thuriel locate his lost blade. Though the search itself was simple, and took only a few days, for some reason Thuriel could not bring himself to leave the town, not yet. Days turned to weeks, weeks to months, months to years. Over time, Shalelu seemed to take a liking to him, teaching him how to survive in the forest while she took him along on yet another hunt or scouting trip. It seemed like she was treating him like a little brother. Not that Thuriel minded. He was happy enough to simply do what he could to repay his debt to her. In the intervening years, Thuriel has seen many events pass through Sandpoint's history, and though he has few skills to ply, Thuriel has always been an honest and hard worker. Mostly, he acts as a local guide, either for hunters, townsfolk, or even the occasional adventurer. In his free time, he practices what little magic he knows, and seeks to master his family blade.
The years bring many changes, however, and lately Thuriel has been feeling restless. Something is coming, he knows it. His feet seek the long path once more, after so many years, and perhaps one day soon he will know which path to take.
Any Evil alignment. I think the idea behind the fluff is that someone might start down the path of the hired killer, but by the time they get to the point where they are learning specialized techniques (aka a Prestige Class), they are no longer quite so neutral about things. The way I've always seen it is that while anybody can call themselves an assassin, it takes a certain mindset that in some way enjoys killing as a vocation in order to go far enough to learn the specialized techniques of the Assassin PrC. As long as you are running under a standard Good v Evil model of alignment, without much grey area, then this holds up pretty well.
If what the guy wants is the death attack, then that's the only way I know of to get it. If they just want specialized skills for the job, take a look at the Lion's Blade PrC on the PFSRD site.
Despite that Nonrecommended tag, I've been itching to try out the gunslinger for quite a while. Maybe a foreign slaver, caught and sent to Brandescar? I'll work something out.
Name:Petrus Volaznic
Race: human
Class: magus 4
Adventure: trial of the beast
Catalyst: wraith children
I enhanced the wraith children with some special abilities to make the fights harder. Petrus died after dealing the final blow to elsie(?). She blew up, and he failed all his saves, thus becoming a dust pile.
Name: Victor the white
Race: dwarf
Class: cleric of pharasma 8
Adventure: broken moon
Catalyst: auren vrood
Very nearly a tpk. Luckily the bard's archivist ability enhances saves too. While everybody else barely passed, victor failed badly. He was slain by circle of death, and now lies with his lady.
As i'm currently running carrion crown IRL, I have to vote for Jade Regent. If you're willi.g to let me apply anyway for Carrion Crown, then I suppose I'd be ok with that too.
Hmmm. First question does put a big kink into the whole story. Perhaps altering it to a clan member's spellbook? That would solve the problem somewhat better, though also leave it weird as to why he left the clan. Um...Maybe the relationship was more developed than I thought at first. Otherwise, why would the father have the child? They would have had to meet numerous times. Or perhaps she stayed with the caravan while she was with child.
Second question, I would find it quite suitable for him to be socially akward, at least around Ameiko. I imagine that he spent any free time he had in Sandpoint trying to hang out around her, but failing miserably many a time in funny fashion. I think his specialization in Evocation likely came from the catharsis he experienced blowing things up when his latest "Get Ameiko's Attention" plan failed. As far as dealing with another person close to his idol, I suppose that at first he'd be rather jealous. There might be some strife, but I think that after a while he'd find that perhaps it's better if Ameiko gets what she wants.
Third question, I've thought that his plan was to try and pull a classic dashing hero moment. Ride in, save the damsel in distress, she pledges her undying love, etc. Merethras is a bit naive at this point, though he's been noticing lately that the object of his crush is rather less in distress than he previously thought. Though I don't have one now, I think Merethras will be spending an awful lot of time trying to think up convoluted plans to acquire her love, while missing out on the important part.
Honestly, I'm not sure that he actually would succeed in acquiring her love. I would certainly like to see him succeed, but it might be more in character for his predilections to mislead him into failure.
Born from tryst between a Varisian gypsy and a wandering elven wizard, Meretras has grown up being the odd one out. While he was never picked on, or terrorized, he never quite felt accepted in the caravan his father, Korev, traveled in. The only real connection he ever felt was when he listened to his father speak of Merethras' mother, Maellia.
It didn't take long for his father to notice that his son shared the talent for magic that his mother had possessed. Korev had found the boy scratching sigils into the dirt one day. Asked what he was doing, and Merethras replied that he was protecting the wagon. "I found a book in the wagon. It had mommy's name in it. You said she could do all kinds of stuff, so I thought I'd try it out."
Lacking the ability to train the boy, Korev was forced to seek out other assistance. He knew of a wizard who often frequented the area, staying in a town called Sandpoint. It was here that Merethras was taken, and here that he was left. The wizard, Bargoff the Red by name, was a scholar studying the Thassilonian ruins nearby. He took Merethras under his wing as a lackey at first. Merethras proved his aptitude by deciphering a spellbook they found in ruins in eastern Varisia. It was then that Bargoff began to teach the boy magic.
It was the most exciting day of Merethras' life. At least, it was until he met Ameiko. The wizard and apprentice had come to Sandpoint once more, to resupply and research. Being left alone by his master in the halls of Irori, he wandered about, meeting the orphans in the care of the master. It was here that he happened upon a young woman, speaking with a half-elven boy resembling her.
Merethras was instantly struck with Shelyn's arrow. Admittedly it started with looks. He had been feeling rather odd lately, and had been meaning to approach Master Bargoff about the issue, but Merethras decided that he had found the source of his confusion. And was this one beautiful!
After that, Merethras did everything he could to see Ameiko again. Despite knowing that she hardly knew he existed, the growing young man went so far as to coax animals into stealing their supplies just so his master would return to Sandpoint. With every passing day, Merethras' infatuation grew. He had tried to prove himself during the goblin raid that had attacked during the Butterfly Festival, but only managed to rescue rescue himself from being drowned in a rain barrel.
Despite these setbacks, Merethras is determined to gain Ameiko's love. He would follow her to the ends of Golarion, and beyond.

The way I see it, we should investigate Glamis while we are here. Whether there actually is anything going on or not, we can still accomplish said objective. Then, should any fears about Glamis prove false, we can make a move toward France.
I think it should be said that there is certainly room for adventure on the way to a port city.

Llaelian, what can you tell me about the region of Brittany, circa 1050-1150 (I think that's sort of when this is set)?
Also, though I'm using simple English as I don't want to put accents I don't really know into my writing, I would like to have Guy pepper his speech with some French phrases. Any common phrasings that you can recommend, for perhaps surprise, expressions of anger, and maybe exultation?
Thanks for tossing me in! Hmm, what race do you think the french are? Thinking of either a free hand fighter going into duelist. The character himself i'm thinking of a disowned noble's son looking to make his own name in the world.
Another question I was thinking on: how do we represent languages? I assume english is common, but what is french, or spanish, or german?
I've been looking at making a Bard(Arcane Duelist) that eventually moves into the Duelist prestige class. Focus would be on spells that make life for the enemy difficult, as well as engaging enemy spellcasters. Other than that, I'd also be there to operate as a party face and all around skill monkey.
I'll have more on the story concept part sometime later this weekend.
I reside in Central Standard Time here in the USA, which I think equates to GMT-6. As said before I don't own the Companion, though I suppose I could get it. I do like learning about new settings, and ok fine I'll go buy a pdf now. Expect something around Thursday, as that's my next day off. That'll give me plenty of time to read the book and put something together.
Thinking about making a Ranger, though I profess that anything calling itself a Gunslinger, etc, piques my interest. I'll get back to you.
Tarik Veihess has been studying magic since he was a young boy. Of course when living in Quantium this doesn't really make him very special. What made Tarik stand out was his love of daring adventure stories, and a very intense desire to go about swashbuckling and defeating evil with pointy swords.
Needless to say his teachers weren't very impressed with his desires, and attempted to curb them often. Despite their work, however, Tarik has continued to meld his love of swordplay with his study of magic. His somewhat unique talents have put him in the position of being a prime guard for many expeditions that the Quantium universities of magic send out.
Currently however, he is taking a sabbatical and wandering eastern Garund. As of now he finds himself in Sothis, and the chance to find high adventure while also doing magical research has him nearly bursting with excitement.
I'm interested in playing, though I don't have the book or the companion. I have heard a bit about Freeport, though I haven't really dug up much on it. Would this cut me from eligibility?

Looking at our headcount, I'm beginning to wonder if I should make Cruach into a Magus instead. It would fit better with the spellcaster theme we have going (or at least the "we have special tricks" theme). On the other hand, being totally bland does make me stand out...

Finding that you've accepted everybody that wanted into 4th squad, I guess I need to find time to make the character. I work full days today and tomorrow, though, so it may not happen until Tuesday.
Don't know if this is late or what, but I can definitely say that I'm interested, having read all of the Black Company and working on finishing Malazan Book of the Fallen right now. Chalk me up for super vanilla Fighter swordsman action.
That would be money, my dear Flak! And, frankly, because I'm the one running my group's current Carrion Crown game (which is core+archetypes only to counter the customized splurg-fest that our Crimson Throne game was). So, my ideas about making a witcher won't really be realized until well into the future, probably around November when we'll be finishing this AP. He'd really fit well with this path though...
Good thoughts, though I can say for sure that I don't think trying to do all 3 main parts of the Witcher in one character will work. I would have to say a focus on 2 of them (sword/alchemy, sword/magic, alchemy/magic) would be the best way.
