That's correct. Vykos isn't with the scouting party and he would be back, either with the horses or at the tree line, wherever everone not in the scouting party is.
Being here though doesn't preclude him discussing possibilities with those that are left. If we think of something we can discuss it with the scouts when they get back.

"What about that section of wall up there. It's not looking too healthy. Might be better than walking through the front gate."
He thinks for a second. "Or else it could be setup to look that way for a trap. Oh hells either way could be a trap. We should just pick one and move in."
Vykos the Deathless(Male Human (Varisian) Undead Bloodline Sorcerer 2 Cleric of Urgathoa 2)
Vykos defers the decisions to the more military types as the will know best, although it doesn't stop him offering his opinions.
"I will put my hand up for leaving the horses here. I think they will make too much noise and make us bigger targets." "I like the idea of sneaking, although I'm not too good at it. Maybe we should go through the woods? That road is awfully open. Can the Hobgoblins see in the dark? Maybe it's best to go in the day when at least we can all see better." "Mabe we should send a scout to see what's up."
Vykos the Deathless(Male Human (Varisian) Undead Bloodline Sorcerer 2 Cleric of Urgathoa 2)
Vykos looks at the armour and admires the craftsmanship. "It is indeed a fine piece Mijanor. I am afraid however that wearing it would impede my spellcasting abiliites. I think Alexei would be the best choice for it."
Vykos the Deathless(Male Human (Varisian) Undead Bloodline Sorcerer 2 Cleric of Urgathoa 2)
"Well that was a surprise. That's the first time I've seen a snake pull a polymorph trick like that!" He gives a chuckle that turns into a cough.
"Ack. I agree with you on that though Jorr. This heat is not doing anything for my state of well being. If it were not for our large friend here," he gestures at Augrok, "I am sure I would be a melted puddle of blood by now."
Vykos the Deathless(Male Human (Varisian) Undead Bloodline Sorcerer 2 Cleric of Urgathoa 2)
Seeing that Alexei has hurt the creature and he could very well attract some retaliation, he steps up to him and places his hand on Alexi's shoulder, praying darkly under his voice.

Vykos looks at the sanke and decides that a weak snake is a dead snake and so raises his hand and points his finger at it. A Blackish Purple Ray shoots from his finger to straike the ground next to the creature. "Damn, your turn," he says, turning to his companions.
Vykos is happily riding in the middle of the column, looking into the swamp and wondering about what bodies might lie beneath the waters when he notices, as do the others, a large snake.

Vykos agrees with Mijanor about accepting Jorr's offer and is emphatic that the Dwarf take an extra portion of his share for his troubles.
I'm sure Vykos would have chatted with the Halfling on the journey.

Vykos steps forward and places a hand on Mijanor's shoulder. "What my colourful friend is trying to say is that both ourselves and the town are having trouble with the local gobilins. We have been instructed by the Speaker to try and put an end to it and he suggested that you were the man to talk to about trying to find their base of operations in the area. A guide would be most welcome, but any piece of information you might offer would be helpful."

Vykos rides in the middle of the others, his usual position so he can see what's going on around him.
He chats idly with the others as they make progress towards the hut and hopefully some promising information on the whereabouts of more Hobgoblin raiders.

Vykos will once again tie his blanket onto his Scythe in a makeshift sun shade before mounting up ready to be off. Other than this his frail constitution is no match for the heat.

Vykos regards Weylan impassively. "If the others have no objection to you joining us then by all means join us. What will your Master think though?" "We are heading into battle you know. What kind of experience do you have? I just want to make sure that you're up for it"
Vykos the Deathless(Male Human (Varisian) Undead Bloodline Sorcerer 2 Cleric of Urgathoa 2)
"Greetings again Sertieren. My little friend here," he indicates Kin, "would like to enquire about the purchase of a Scroll containing a spell for creating a permanent flame, such as those found on Everlasting Torches. "I have heard of a similar spell. It creates a Flame which gives off no heat and cannot be extinguished. Supply shops usually sell them to adventurers as Everburning Torches. The spell itself however can be cast onto anything. Unfortunately I myself cannot cast such a spell. There is a Wizard in town however that may know the spell and be willing to inscribe it onto a Scroll for you. If he does so then I would cast it for you onto what ever you desire."

Mijanor shrugs, "Not much of the skulkin around type. Prefer to hit 'em 'ard and alot but ifin ye can pull it off I'll get chur back."
Vykos thinks about this for a moment before replying. "To do this though we would need to know their routes and schedules. This is a large area. We can't just wander around hoping that we stumble upon another Patrol. Personally I am all for hitting them in smaller numbers. Less chance of being skewered again," he rubs his chest as he says this. "I just don't know how viable it will be. We should wait until we have talked with the Guide to see if he knows anything about how the Patrols are set out in the area before we fully commit to a course of action I think."
Once the others are in bed, Vykos takes the chance to wander around the town, making sure the guards know who he is and that the party will try to bring some more stability to the region. He returns around 3am and gets some sleep, rising after a couple of hours to pray and meditate quietly.
Vykos the Deathless(Male Human (Varisian) Undead Bloodline Sorcerer 2 Cleric of Urgathoa 2)
After returning from his trip to see the Mage, Vykos prepares his room and then heads down to the common room. He orders a wine from a Barmaid and settles in with the Dwarves to watch the interplay of the townsfolk and discuss what they should do in the morning.
"I think heading out to garner the sevices of this Guide is a good idea. We should see what he thinks, but my instincts say that the Keep here on the map," he points to Vraath Keep, "is a very likely place for their base of operations."
He sips rarely at his wine and the one glass seems to last him all night. While the others order their dinner, he spends that time glancing around the room at the differnet tables and watching Alexei take the locals for their money, smiling at how the horseman is now in his element.

Once Vykos concludes his business with the Speaker, he asks directions to Sertien the Wise to see if he can procure any magic.

Vykos bids Bors farewell and dismounts from Reaper, leading him by the reins through the town to the Inn. Once there, he ties Reaper up and heads inside to the bar.
"Good day there barkeep. I wish to enquire about lodging and stabling for myself and my companions." He waves at the others as they come trudging through the door. "I don't know how long we'll be staying, but I do know that some of them will be more than interested in the ale that you have on offer." He turns and gives a weird smile and wink at the dwarves.
He looks around the room at the place. "A very homey establishment you have here. I believe we will be after 3-4 rooms. I myself will want one as will Alexi." He indicates Alexi. "My Dwarven compatriots may require seperate lodging, or they may share. I will let them decide. I'm sure that they will also require sustenance after our journey and so a menu of your food would be good as well." He turns to the other again. "Anything I've missed?"

Vykos catches the bag thrown by Mijanor and opens it up. The gold is fairly self explainitory, but the gems are the real trick. That done, he finally gets a chance to return to the sight of the battle and retrieve his belongings. He walks over to where Reaper is calmly eating some of the brush and pats him. Good boy, I thought I had lost you there then. He walks over and collects his Scythe from where he dropped it once the battle commenced and places it in it's mount on Reaper's saddle. He then leads Reaper back over to the House and ties him up outside in good reach of something to eat. He unpacks his gear and walks back inside to the others. "I assume that we will be setting up camp here after our encounter, to rest and examine our spoils more closely."
With that, he goes about setting up his bedroll and organising his sleeping arrangements near one of the walls. He sets everything out nice and neatly, as you have all by now become accustomed to, quite differently from the random jumble more commonly attributed to the Varisian people.

Seeing everyone's tensions abate, Vykos resumes his journey to Alexi, puffing from the exertion. He drops the Weapons and Armour on the ground and pulls out the Vial, placing it next to them.

Regarding Identify and Detect Magic. In other games I have been handling it that as long as you are touching the item, you can attempt an Appraise check the round after determining if an item is magic. If you already know it is magic, you may attempt the check as soon as you cast the spell.
For example:
Round 1: Pick up item.
Round 2: Cast Identify, detect the presence of magic.
Round 3: Number and strength of auras.
Round 4: Location of aura, Appraise check.
Or, for something you know is magic:
Round 1: Pick up item.
Round 2: Cast Identify, Appraise check.
DM Drax:
Spoiler:
OK, just so I am 100% clear on this:
Because I am level 2, the spell lasts for 6 rounds.
Does that mean:
Round 1: Pick up item.
Round 2: Cast Identify, Appraise Check.
Round 3: Pick up item, Appraise Check.
Round 4: Pick up item, Appraise Check.
Round 5: Pick up item, Appraise Check.
Round 6: Pick up item, Appraise Check.
Round 7: Pick up item, Appraise Check.
OR
Round 1: Pick up item.
Round 2: Cast Identify, Appraise Check.
Round 3: Pick up item.
Round 4: Appraise Check.
Round 5: Pick up item.
Round 6: Appraise Check.
Round 7: Pick up item.
OR
Round 1: Pick up item.
Round 2: Cast Identify, Appraise Check.
Round 3-7: Spell is still active, but can only Appraise one item per casting.

DM Drax:
Spoiler:
The spell description for Identify is rather vague. It says it functions as Detect Magic, and then says it lasts for 3 rounds/level. If that's the cae then after 3 rounds a 1st level character will have only gotten the same benefits as if they had cast Detect Magic. A 2nd level chaacter would then get 3 rounds of trying to identify items (I am assuming one item/round), so they could attempt to do three items, a 3rd level caster six items and so on.
The next option is that you can instantly detect what items are magical and then attempt one item/round (so 1st does three, 2nd does six, etc...).
The third option is that each item takes 3 rounds to identify correctly and so you can identify one item/level.
Which would you say is the most likely and or which do you think I should use when casting Identify?
