Volta looks around and nods, "Sure, I don't have any better idea. I guess will see the bloody bits along the way." On that cheery note Volta tries bounding after Seldion but only manages a tired shuffle.

Volta stiffens as the screams echo but puts it aside knowing he can do nothing about it, as helpless as he has been all along.

Volta nods at Seldion saying, "Sure why not. I'll open the last door we see, some warrior can open it and ,if you can, check for magic thereafter, maybe we'll catch a lucky break for once and there'll be something we can use to fight the unbeatable."[/b]

Volta looks at the result and shrugs. "Anyone got any magic that can fight a ghost or spirit or something I can't hit at all? If not close the door and move on if it comes through the door we die, nothing we can do about it. So don't worry about it."

If no one steps up to fight the apparition Volta signals for the door to be closed and moves on to the next point of interest.

Volta takes his crossbow into both hands and fires at the figure. "Taking the shot!."

Volta looks at the crossbow and back at the skeletons, sighs, and says, "Yeah lets bypass these, if we run out of other places to go we can come back later."

Volta says, "Clear line of fire!" Volta making sure that no one is in the way, fires from around the edge of the doorway at one of the undead.

Volta stands behind Groff and anyone else willing to step up, while pulling out his crossbow and arming it.

"I hope anyone gets out of this alive, that would be a miracle. Seriously, Cayden we could use one now." Volta replies, starting out be bit sourly but ending more desperately sounding.

Volta moves up towards the first door on the left and checks it out, disarming any traps if there are any. He does NOT open the door.

Volta says, "The door should open easily but half the time I do so, something evil tries to rip my head off. I like my head where it is. So if some brave heroic warrior would do the honors..." Volta trails off the snark but seems more like just tired and very, very young.

Volta goes on, "Let's move swiftly then we have only hours at most before thirst and exhaustion will disable us. Let all of us go to the top, and then we run to the last rooms we could not check. Maybe, just maybe we can find something of use to end this nightmare before all are killed. In any case we have nothing left to lose." "Sir Rekkart! Having renounced your divine gifts, when we needed them the most, would you lead the way as a warrior to face what is likely your final battle against evil?"

Volta starts then looks resigned. Volta looks around waiting for the inevitable death of Patrissa.

Volta looks around and notices a fine string of fire opals adorning a lovely neck. He faces shifts as he seems about to speak and then turns away quickly saying nothing at all.

Hmm I've seen fire opals recently ... right on her neck. I should ... no I shouldn't. I don't believe in coincidence so those are likely the opals Halgrak bought. But I don't KNOW that she did anything wrong but at the slightest hint of an accusation and the insane vengeful spirits will kill her. I can't be a party to that.

There are many points raised here about the adventure most I agree with and don't need to recount but there is something of a problem with the adventure's accounting for character motives.

Basically Seldion said the the other jurors have a motive to cooperate. That is not true, they never had, and really now, do not have any motive to say anything; I'll explain in a moment.

TDM Trawets said that we were not diplomatic enough with them. Given that we did not know anyone when we woke up and it very quickly became apparent that they were lying their behinds off, it is understandable that we were not happy with them and saw little reason to conceal that fact.

But lets look at Volta's motivations. The DM asked for heroes, and I am playing the "Reluctant Hero" archetype. Whiny as he is, Volta is trying to do the right thing most of the time.

So in regards to Seldion comment and why Volta has stopped asking anyone questions about the past, EVERY time anyone gives info about the past they immediately die a horrible death at the hands of an unstoppable power.

When Volta did get someone to confess what really happened, that person died right after, horribly, and it was, in part, Volta fault; at least that's how Volta would see it as a good, if cranky, person. So Volta is not going to ask anyone anything like that again because they will die for it.

So I think, it's not because of bad diplomacy, but rational thinking on the other jurors' part not volunteer info, and to even refuse it. Maybe that will not work and they die anyway. But if they give information the only people that could benefit is innocent people and that is a level of unlikely self sacrifice. That goes double because I strongly suspect that most of the other jurors were in on it and are not good people.

Okay this is overly long but I think that the fact that we can't even pretend to anyone that we can protect a confessing witness kills cooperation, realistically, even among the PC's, is a serious adventure design flaw. (Note: it's not a always a flaw in a horror flick, but the characters in such films are suppose to die entertainingly. Less fun when a player, no scope for decisive action.)

"Keep an eye on the corpse, see that it doesn't rise and try to kill us all." Volta continues, "We are not going to get any rest so if we run into any shades that can only be met with magic we are all dead; but we die anyway so I guess we need to keep searching for something that might help, very unlikely that may be."

"We only have a few hours before thirst and exhaustion will cause us to become ineffective so we need to move quickly. I suggest we go upstairs and get check the top area out first and then see if we can get anywhere else."

"What that you have there Groff?"

Volta jumps back from the horror, "Yeech, why does this happen to me?" He moves behind the more armored of the group.

Volta wakes with a scout's alertness then scowls. "Yep, restless spirits are not going to let us rest. Best see what's going on." Volta goes to the door looking at Kanna trying to listen through the door.

He goes to the door and whispers to Kanna, "Best just to open it and be ready for anything, we don't have much choice anyway."

If Kanna agrees Volta will open the door, using the door itself as a shield.

Been rather ill lately so haven't posted much. We seem to have decided to try to rest maybe some clues will come in the evening?

Volta looks shocked then angry then resigned.

"We have been doing most of the searching and fighting, we're drained. Most of you have done little but complain. We are not gods or undead, yes - we need to rest. We found out some stuff but not enough; I gather no one has any idea how to get out of the grip of this horror. So either we rest or collapse, drained of every resource. However, nothing prevents you bunch from searching what's left of this place. There doesn't seem like there is much left to be found, but if you have a useful idea, not a whine, I'd be glad to hear it."

Volta replies dryly, "Doesn't always help those things are really good at hitting. Rest is good but how much water and food do we have; we won't last long without it."

Volta looks around and see no one paying attention. He sighs and says, "Well if there is a horrible creature in this and it kills me and I eat your face, don't blame me." On that cheery note he assume a full defense with sword drawn, and gingerly opens the cabinet.

Volta studies any remaining cabinets to see if there are any traps and disables them if so, but allowing others to open them afterwards.

Volta nods at Groff's words and says, "The armory I presume then. Too much to carry."

He then taps the walls to see if there is a secret room, or passage.

"This seems like the kind of place that would have a concealed room or two. Or I'm just a really suspicious person."

Volta replies, "A shadowy spirit that Ianfir seemed to hurt a bit, three toys that started attacking him. It was crowded so I left so the better suited could deal with it. With no real ability to strike back at whatever is behind this, I do not see how we come of of this alive." Volta says the last a bit morosely.

Coming out of the stairwell Volta tells anyone left, "Hey, a bunch upstairs are fighting that shadow and evil toys, sadly not kidding. If anyone think they can help be my guest. Not much room though, I'm not sure that more can fit."

Volta looks about a bit confused as well, then seeing the apparition, echoes Groff saying, "Yeah, What Groff said, what do we do to this thing? It seems a manifest spirit and not happy at all." Volta will let anyone by him if someone comes up, as he clutches his Tankard of Cayden Cailean.

He then, far too mildly, says, "Well, this will make sure that no one will ever admit anything ever again. Our persons of faith, do you have any guidance on how we can exorcism this or these, however many, dangerous and insane spirits? It appears that will be the only way out besides a hideous death."

To Kanna, "It makes sense only to the insane, a deeply insane vengeful being, likely something supernatural, but maybe some other explanation, I'll leave that to the holy."

Volta turns towards the newly reveled staircase saying, "If some comes forward I'll check these stairs so we can find a new place for someone to die horribly."
