Vishantos sighs and pays for a private room, as well as dinner and breakfast. 'Outrageous how they can take advantage of this situation. I wonder how I could get in on that?' he thinks to himself as he hands over his money. 'In the morning I must prepare spells to suit the dangers of travel in this area. I won't be entertaining children in the woods.'

Vishantos directs the coloured-smoke rabbit to run into one of his ears and then pop out the other. He blinks rapidly.

"My, my... this is all rather dreary. Pardon me gentlemen, I will let you speak to our good herbalist. I will attend to other matters."

Vishantos moves off to one side and a little futher up beside the line.

"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I know this wait is dreadful and boring, and none of us are happy to be here. Perhaps my small amusements will alleviate matters somewhat."

Vishantos removes his hat. "My hat here is, of course a very magical hat. With the magic words <prestidigitation> I can call forth from it all manner of strange things." Vishatos reaches in and pulls out a puff of purple smoke. "Now that's not right, I'm sure there's a rabbit in here somewhere..."

Vishatos continues to draw forth puffs of coloured smoke, muttering about finding a rabbit, a dove etc. The puffs of smoke coalesce just over his head into vague forms of the animals he describes. They make faces at the crowd and hide every time Vishantos turns to look at them. "What, you see a rabbit? Behind me? There's nothing there, are you trying to fool me?

Finally spotting the animals, Vishantos places his hat on the ground in front of him in a slightly exaggerated manner, leading the smoke animals to peform various stunts such as jumping through smoke rings. He focuses particularly on the children in the crowd, and their parents, but does his best to provide some amusement for all.

Vishantos clears his throat once again. "I will certainly come along. I do not know what we can do to help, but it cannot hurt to ask."

(male Human Transmuter 1)

"Ah, Mr Reno, so good to see you. You speak of our trades as if you know something of what it is to do work. Rather surprising really. I was just to ask Calar here how many of the ill folk of our town became so after hearing you play those awful pipes."

Vishantos laughs at his own joke, trailing off into a minor coughing fit.

"So, have things gotten so bad that the consortium is worried that the sickness might affect their profit? Or has the line up at the herbalist made it difficult for you to get your regular treatment for the itch in your... well never mind. Clearly there is a real problem here, and some of us would like to do something about it."

(male Human Transmuter 1)

"Hmmm..? Oh yes right..."

Vishantos clears his throat loudly. "I have heard that a lot of people have been getting sick. Not really my area of knowledge. I'd like to help though, if there's something that can be done. This town, these people, life is hard enough for them already. I can't imagine the lumberers get much sympathy from the consortium in terms of sick leave and the like."

Vishantos takes a long drink to soothe his dry throat but almost chokes on it. He apologizes amid much spluttering.

"What is the illness, do you know? I haven't heard the details. Nothing too serious I hope?"

EDIT: 2 sp for drink and snack deducted.

Vishantos looks over at Geddoe, somewhat startled. "My apologies sir, I did not see you sit. Let make some more room at the table." Vishantos tucks his diagrams and writing materials back into their case and puts it in his pack.

"New Winch? Oh right. Hmmm... I have some ideas. Are you an engineer of some sort? I can design the thing, but I'm not much with tools. I'll draw something up and bring you the plans if you'd like."

Vishantos goes to the inn and finds a table. He orders a drink which he promptly forgets as he draws up plans for a new ferry system with a winch driven by a waterwheel. He occasionaly mutters things like "... if I add a second wheel under the ferry itself, that could power a mechanism that pulls the ferry along the cable while the cable is moving, doubling the speed..."

Eventually he flips the parchment over and starts drawing a design for a paddlewheel boat driven by a windmill.

(male Human Transmuter 1)

All right, my stats are done (I think). Let me know if you see any problems.

Vishantos coughs and spits as he plans out the new ferry winch. He carefully watches how the current set up works, oblivious to the fact that he is getting in the way of the men trying to work the wheel.

"Help or get out of the way!" shouts the surly guard.

Vishantos blinks, coughs, and then sets to work winding the ferry across the river.

Vishantos overhears the guard and blacksmith and clears his thoat, then coughs. "You know, it would be easier if you had a better gear ratio on the ferry winch. I could design it for you, although engineering isn't really my forte. Should be pretty straightforward though. I'd give you a better price than any of the guild engineers would, anyways..."

He follows a few steps behind, drifting further into his own thoughts of winch mechanisms.

I better sink a rank or two into architecture and engineering now...
