Vincent takes measured steps backwards, putting the majority of the shifting ground between himself and Glyde.

"Well, I guess you just have to come get me then."

Ahmazzi wrote:
Vincent, what will you do?

Vincent desperately tries to remember the code. He knows that whatever is crashing though the jungle towards them cannot be good.

"Ryuk, stay close and try not to attract attention."

Vincent approaches the stone, reaching out his hand to feel along its rough surface.

Vincent puzzles over the psyker's words for a moment, at first assuming Ryuk's tenuous grasp of language has caused him to misspeak. However, the clone speaks the truth.

In a way, Vincent had known all along. The young tech-priest was just too convenient, in the right place at the right time when he had no rightful business to be. But Vincent had ignored this, pushed these thoughts so far into his subconscious that it took the words of one more infant than man for him to realize it.

It is not this intellectual failure that troubles Vincent though, but the simple truth Launce's very existence reveals.

Fate

Vincent looks about for their missing companions for a moment then turns to Ryuk.

"Have you seen Launce?"

Vincent will look for Launce for as long as he thinks is safe, then proceed to the guncutter.

Vincent sprints headlong it to the woods, more concerned with what lies ahead than behind.

With only a little help from his compatriots, Vincent wriggles to his feet in the churning muck.

Agility : 40 + 20 = 60
Roll : 1d100=43

Vincent's mouth is dry and sour as he struggles to croak out the words to address the remainders of their party. He raises he free hand and points a shaking finger towards the woods.

"The path is clear, we need to move now."

After giving them a moment to collect their wits, Vincent walks over to the edge of the overturned hauler before cautiously bending down and hopping into the muddy ground below.

He falls ungracefully into the thick mire with a sickening squelch

Taking a full move using any remaining movement to move towards the forest. This action would be covered under the rules for jumping down, requiring an agility test for each meter traveled. Failure indicates the character falls the rest of the way. Luckily for Vincent, it is only 2.5 meters and he has the mud to cushion his fall.

Agility : 40
Roll 1: 1d100=67

Vincent channels his horror at the guardsman's transformation into a punishing overhead blow.

All Out Attack

All Out Attack + Proficient + Best Quality + Ganging Up = 24 + 30 - 20 + 10 + 10 = 54

The daemons defeated, Vincent calls out to his compatriots.

"We have a clear path into the forest, get moving before they surround us."

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #14
Battlemap

With one fluid motion, Vincent draws the Sliver of Calyx from its makeshift scabbard and draws the shimmering blade across the daemon's tainted flesh, pealing open soiled chem-suit and rotted flesh like the skin of an overripe fruit.

Ready action to draw, standard attack to attack.

Standard Attack + Proficient + Best Quality + Ganging Up = 24 + 10 - 20 + 10 + 10 = 34
Roll : 1d100=1

Damage : 1d10 + 5 + 1 + 2
Damage Roll : 1d10 = 8
Total damage is 8 + 5 + 1 + 2 = 16

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #13
Battlemap

Facing the daemon bare meters away, Vincent fires again and again into its putrescent form.

Semi-auto burst on Vile Savant #2, range >3m is point blank. Shotgun is empty.
Semi-Auto Burst + Point Blank Range + Higher Ground = 36 + 30 + 10 = 76

Fate Point Reroll : 1d100=91

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #12
Battlemap

Vincent keeps firing, hoping the rounds will at least slow the daemon down.

Semi-auto burst on Vile Savant #2, range ~8m is less than half combat shotgun's 30m range. Three rounds remain in the shotgun's magazine.
Semi-Auto Burst + Higher Ground = 36 + 10 = 46
Roll : 1d100=83

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #10
Battlemap

Vincent's previous attack had actually reduced the horde to magnitude 2, so it should be destroyed by that attack.

Vincent curses the universe as his fellows succumb to the horrific presence of the daemon and turns his weapon upon the monsters.

Semi-auto burst on Vile Savant #2, range ~12m is less than half combat shotgun's 30m range.
Semi-Auto Burst + Higher Ground + Diminished Horde = 36 + 10 + 10 = 56
Roll : 1d100=26
Damage : 1d10 = 4 + 4 = 8, 1d10 = 2 + 4 = 6

Not sure if this is 3 degrees of success or 4, if the latter a third hit is scored for a total of 3.

Roll : 1d10 = 2 + 4 = 6

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #10

A solitary drop of blood drips down from Vincents nose and the coppery taste of blood fills his mouth, but the baleful power of the warp leaves his iron will unscathed. He barely hears the thunderous boom of his shotgun or the his own shouted words.

"Someone get on the stubber."

Semi-auto burst at horde I14, range ~25m is less than combat shotgun's 30m range.
Semi-Auto Burst + Higher Ground + Diminished Horde = 36 + 10 + 10 = 56
Roll : 1d100=35
Damage : 1d10 = 9 + 4 = 13, 1d10 = 9 + 4 = 13

Attacking the last of the zombie horde isn't exactly the most logical in character move, but out of character I need to make sure no more random zombies pop up.

The buzzing reaches its sickening crescendo, Vincent is filled with an unnerving calm.

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #9
Battlemap

Vincent watches as the the pestilential swarm begins to stretch the very fabric universe like a swollen pustule preparing to burst. Gritting his teeth against infernal buzzing, he bellows to the others:

"They're coming!!"

Semi-auto burst at horde I14, range ~25m is less than combat shotgun's 30m range.
Semi-Auto Burst + Higher Ground + Diminished Horde = 36 + 10 + 10 = 56
Roll : 1d100=36
Damage : 1d10 + 4=9, 1d10 + 4=12

Two degrees of success for two hits, both of which deal damage. Horde takes two magnitude damage.

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #8

Vincent looks over his shoulder at swarm of lies presaging the daemon's appearance. Staring into the buzzing and swirling blackness, he attempts to predict when it will appear, so he can prevent his fellows from being overcome by its effects.

"Prepare yourselves, when I tell you to you must all shut your eyes you must do so, and keep them shut until I instruct you otherwise."

Vincent is seeking to spare them at least the shock of the daemon's emergence from the warp, though they will have to confront the actual creature's visage once it arrives. Vincent will use whatever action is necessary to monitor the daemon's approach with Psyniscience and use any remaining actions to assist the heavy gunner in bracing and reloading his weapon.

Psyniscience : 44
Roll : 1d100=12

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #7

Nimbly catching the bulky shotgun, Vincent moves to put it into action, only to find its mechanical workings have been infiltrated by the Claustrum's mud.

Semi-auto burst at horde I14, range ~12m is less than half of combat shotgun's 30m range.
Semi-Auto Burst + Short Range = 36 + 10 + 10 = 56
Roll : 1d100=100

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #6

"Ryuk let me take your shotgun, you and Launce use your flamers once they get close."

Half-action ready to holster lasgun, half-action ready to take shotgun from Ryuk.

Salt Sown on Fallow Fields
Round #6

Rookseye:
Though Vincent's favored response at this juncture is to flee to the hidden guncutter. However, the prospect of being caught in the open or having to face the daemon at close quarters in the forest are holding him back. Does his knowledge in any way inform this decision? For instance, how long before the daemon likely appears?

I don't believe we ever worked that out. Also, can you tell me the hieght of the water truck and the magnitudes of the nearby hordes? It looks like they are destroyed, but there is no way we have done 20 magnitude damage.

Unduz II, Oremor 7th Legion Penal Claustrum, Designate Ylesium, Plantation 7, Husbandry Barn Cluster 177, Edge of the Tertiary Fallow Fields.

As the once-living form of the vehicle's occupant claws its way toward them, Vincent calmly draws his laspistol from its holster and fires.

Half action to ready laspistol, half action standard attack.

BS + Point Blank = 36 + 30 = 66
Roll : 1d100=52
Damage : 1d10 + 2 = 7

Hit to left arm, one degree of success.

Forbidden Lore (Daemonology) = 53

Vincent reaches into his web gear and pulls out a fragmentation grenade. Pulling the safety pin, he throws it at the gaggle of undead approaching the trucks eastern side.

"Fire in the hole."

Ready action to draw/arm grenade then standard attack to throw it. Guardsmen are free to choose their own targets. Not entirely sure on some of the modifiers, so feel free to modify results as necessary. Range for Vincent throwing grenades is 6m (Short Range = Point Blank Range).

BS + Point Blank? + Horde Magnitude = 36 + 30? + 20? = 86?

Vincent clasps the guardsman's offered arm and pulls himself onto the overturned body of the truck.

This will leave the Sargent and Ryuk down below, next turn the guardsman and Launce should help them up.

Climb = 27 / 2 = 13 or Strength = 27
Roll : 1d100=85

Vincent's hands slip on the wet surface of the truck.

Depending on how tall the truck is it may be more appropriate to use the rules for jumping rather than climbing. Jumping is an Agility test which allows you to jump 3 x SB + 10 x SB x DoS cm. This would let the characters jump and catch the ledge in order to pull themselves up. Otherwise, next turn I would probably have the characters help boost each other up in order to avoid the difficult test.

Agility : 40

Roll : 1d100=56

Logic : 53

Roll : 1d100=61

Vincent's loses his footing as he runs through the thick mud and he lands in a heap a few meters from the overturned truck. He struggles to his feet and lopes the last few steps to the truck. Seeing the guardsmen coming to an uneasy stop around him he motions upward.

"Best position is on top of the truck."

He then turns to Ryuk and points to the downed Launce.

"Ryuk, look after Launce and make sure he catches up."

Vincent uses half-action to get up from prone and half-action to move. Suggested actions to guardsmen are full moves to climb on top of the water truck.

As the group sprints across tilled earth of the field, he shouts to the others.

"We can use the truck as a strong-point to punch a hole in their ranks."

Vincent takes the run action and encourages the others to do the same. He moves northeast to the K11 area.

Vincent, please attempt a Toughness test. I am assuming that you and the others want to keep running and ahead of the plague-zombie horde, so this will fall under Running in Narrative Time---moving at a rushed pace you can easily outrun them while in the culvert, as the zombies are slow (if untiring)---but it will take its toll in terms of Fatigue if you fail your test. Perception-based tests all suffer a -20 penalty during this kind of action. Alternately, you could attempt to exit the culvert before reaching the end, but you presently have no idea of what is presently occurring on the plantation fields above. I've made the assumption you don't want to stand and fight.
