So what can you offer in terms of compensation for this job?

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex watches for now. She's not concerned about Li's first question, but the second one is relevant.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

"No I'm fine. You folks split up the coin. You earned it. Hopefully, we can milk guard from some of their coin now."

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

A dark look crosses Vex's face. She's still harboring a grudge against the guard, but this might give her a chance to a few who she owes some payback to. Luckily Croft isn't in her bad books.

"It's been a while since I've spoken with Croft. I think we should pay her a visit."

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

"She can call me Vexiana". says Vex, as she appraises the bodyguard.

She considers asking is Sabina knew her mothers since she also trained under Vencarlo, but decides to hold her thoughts.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

yes

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex takes off her massive orc flail and drops it at the guards feet. Her shield is on her back and she tosses that on the floor as well. She puts down her unstrung bow, and quiver of arrows. Then she unbuckles her sword belt and sets down her shortsword and dagger.

She doesn't say anything, but gives the guards a look that says, "If you touch my stuff I'll tear your heads off with my bare hands."

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex tries to see if she recognizes any of them from her days with the guard.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex looks up at the imposing castle built on the ancient pyramid. Her looks is skeptical.

"Okay, lets go. Everyone has to die sooner or later."

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

I never saw the posters, but if that's what they say then we should head to the palace.

Spoiler:

would you like to give me a name for the contact or should I make one up?

DM

Spoiler:
Though Vex has a chip on shoulder regarding the Korvosan guard, she might still have a friendly contact or two in the guard. If she did she might want to try to contact that person to help feel out how the queen might receive folks who returned her brooch, and possibly get some more info on the king's death. Can she have such a contact? She's also still looking to get back at the commander who gave the orders for her to be left behind when she was fighting orcs outside of Korovosa

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

What about the brooch you recovered? I suggest trying to collect some kind of finders fee for that before you start trying to track down the king's killer. Too much of what is going on in this city is wild rumor. At least the brooch is tangible. The question is how do you do it without getting yourselves killed?

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

"Maybe we could do you a favor and throw the cards on a fire, so that your spirit could go free."

<Vex doesn't trust harrow cards, especially ones that talk>

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex seems a little disturbed. She has not had dealings with the undead before.

"Are you saying, we're talking to a ghost?"

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Ves moves to stand near the door.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

I'm pretty thirsty as well. I know a place around the corner from here. It's called the Blind Dog. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but the owner's a decent fellow who doesn't mind serving half breeds. I wouldn't mind telling you about a little score I'd like to settle.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex draws her flail and gets ready to move in. She's still not really sure what is going on, so she's more hesitant than usual.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Your friend's signaling us, let's check it out.

Vex moves forward. For now she keeps her weapon slung, but her shield is strapped to her right arm (she's a lefty). She steps confidently into the street and moves purposely toward the building. Her unusual size, her armor, weapons, pointed ears and clean shorn head all serve to make her stand out in a crowd, and she draws stares from pretty much everyone on the street. She's grown used to it over the years, and she ignores the looks.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

I like to know what I'm getting into before wading into battle. You seem pretty stealthy Li. Maybe you should scout it out.

I'm assuming that we are standing in an alley, observing the building from at least some concealment.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

What are we looking for here, and what kind of opposition can we expect?

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex follows, curious to see what her new found companions will get up to.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

The next morning Vex takes a peek out onto the streets and tries to get a sense of the atmosphere. Does the city seem to have simmered down a little or things still very chaotic?

She then goes to speak with LI

"So what happened? How were you set up?"

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

I'm happy to help you out however I can. Just let me know what you want to do.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

"Well I don't really have any say in the matter. It belongs to you folks, but off the top of my head I'd say there's an opportunity for profit for you. Either try to find a buyer for it or see if there's a reward for the thing's return."

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex starts unbuckling her own armor and take off her heavy breast plate. She does some stretches and massages various sore spots on her body. Underneath her armor she wears a light smock. She too has her share of battle scars.

She then glances at the brooch. "That looks expensive. Where did you find that treasure?"

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

"Yeah I had heard a bit about that too, but I didn't know if any of those rumor were true."

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

"Not too bad for this neighborhood. You even have a bathtub. Do any of you folks know why the city seems to have gone crazy?"

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

I've been working as a sellsword for the past few months. I've been dreaming of forming my own mercenary company. You folks look like you have knowledge of such business. Do you do any mercenary work? With the way things are right now, there could be some opportunities for fame and fortune.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex heads upstair on her own to check on her mother. She's not eager to introducer her to a bunch of strangers. She isn't gone for long. When she comes back down she speak to Lilandra.

"My mother is well. I told her to stay inside, but I may try to get some food supplies to bring her in case she has to stay in her home for a few days. However, I owe a debt to you and your friends for helping slay that foul creature earlier. I intend to pay it back. Where are you planning on going next?"

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

I'm pulling a bit of stuff from the guide to Korvosa for this one

Vex leads you across one of the many bridges that connects the new city to Old Korvosa. She leads you through some of the city's most decrepit slums towards old city hall.

You pass by one building in particular that Vex chooses to point out.

"Across the street there is the Orisini Academy. It's run by a man by the name of Vencarlo Orisini. Well, actually these days he doesn't do that much instructing at the academy, but he's one of Korovosa's most renowned swordsmen. My mother trained under him."

Vex's mother lives just down the street from academy. The building is a big one. It has several shops on the street level, none of them look like they are flourishing. The upper two stories of the structure are apartments. The entire building leans out over the street rather precariously.
Vex's mom's apartment is accessed by a rickety wooden staircase that crawls up the side of the building. He home is on the third floor.

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex nods to Lilandra and starts plodding forward.

<She's not eager to converse with half orcs and goblins just yet. She'd rather thump them with her flail.>

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex looks down at her flail and replies to Skazz

I had some troubles with orcs a little while back. I took this as a reward for my efforts.

She then looks toward the elf

"I'm heading to old town to she if my mother is doing okay. The way things are in this town, I'm concerned for her safety."

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex gets to her feet, gags from the stink, hefts her massive flail with both hands and brings it down on the creature with all her might for good measure.

She then moves out of the way of the thing, trying to escape its horrible odor. She looks around, eyeing the folks that slaughtered the beast.

(she's had some bad experiences with orcs in the not so recent past, so seeing a half orc come to her aid is a little weird for her, and she's not sure what to make of it).

She addresses her words to the party.

"This town's gone mad. I thought there were only cowards and lowlife's living in this s!~@ hole. It isn't everyday you see folks willing to put themselves at risk to help their neighbors. Who are you people?"

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

Vex is no ordinary looking half elf damsel. In fact, at first you probably wouldn't even realize she is a halfelf. She is over six feet tall, clad in chain mail and obviously well muscled. She has a massive flail that she was attempting to the fend the creature off with. The flail looks like a weapon more suited to an orc or an ogre than a woman. All the hair on her head has been completely shorn off. She is a warrior through and through.

Any PCs who have ever served in the guard might know a bit about her already

(Female Half Elf Fighter 2)

I've got the basic crunch of the character here. I might have to change my stats. I went with 25 point buy using the Pathfinder rules, but I wasn't sure if that was what you meant or if you meant 25 point buy using the 3.5 rules.
