Vencarlo explains the story, allowing any of you to cut in if you want to, but he assures everyone this man is to be trusted. He explains all the events from the death of the king and his suspecions from the very begining, the rescue of Trinia Sabor, the plague's origins and finally his rescue of Neolandus, who has been looking better, but still appears a little 'shell shocked' from the treatment he suffered underneaith that evil outsider and how they learnt the queen appears to be practically immortal as long as she wears the crown, so now is time to search for Shoanti who might know of the crown and ways to defeat it.

At the end of the story he lets out a long whistle.
"Now that's why I never got involved in politics. Too messy and knowing my wife she'd work me to death." he laughs and then sighs, looking to the trapdoor. "I'll need to move my family from here before things get too bad. I'm thinking west, to Magnimar. Atleast until all this chaos is over with. My family is too important for me to stay here on this darn farm." he looks to Vencarlo quizzically. "Where are you headed? I assume you don't think you're capable with keeping up with these friends of yours?" as he says this Vencarlo nods.

Vencarlo stands and looks to Neolandus and the group.
"We've been discussing it, but we were going to seek asylum at the dwarven city of Janderhoff. I have a few favors I can call upon for us to remain there and far away from the queen. No matter how powerful she is, she'd never be foolish enough to try to step into a dwarven home without an invitation, right Krenn?" he gives a wink to the dwarf then looks to Curnach "That reminds me, you'll need a guide who can speak the Shoanti dialect and there is someone who would like to greet you all." he smiles as he opens the trapdoor, revealing Jasan's oldest daughter and Vencarlo calmly says to her "Fetch your guest." as she speeds off, soon a familiar face returns, decenting down the steps.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, the snakes died in that first round. The first one was wounded by Llyra's spiritual ally and died from falling whilst the second died from being crushed.

Another evil driven from Korvosa." he states, looking back to Neolandus who, in his state, is just managing to get to his knees, but he is still too weak to walk and Varncarlo spots the boat down at the dock. "I know you all want to stay here for a little longer, but me and my friend are the queen's main targets. If possible, to keep him hidden we'll need a amulet of proof against detection. That way the queen, nor the red mantis will follow." he hands over his gear back to the group "I'm too old to play at hero. I hope you can use these items to help in your endevors."

Llyra Bjorgan wrote:
Your equipment came from your home. We were sent there to find you. Instead we found several Red Mantis assassins. As the assassins knew where you lived, we chose to remove any treasure that we found, so that it would not fall into the wrong hands.

Vencarlo curses under his breath.

"Sorry mi'lady for my language just then. I had assumed they were after a student, but clearly the contract is on my head too and anyone who helps Neolandus." as he says this he turns to his friend "We better get going, otherwise more assassins or Grey Maidens might find us." he states to the group and sheathing is blade for the moment. "I'm too old for all this adventuring. Once we're out of here, you can have my equipment. Who knows, there might be a new blackjack in Korvosa in the future."

"If I remember, there is a boat in the entrance where all the fungi is." he states and you all remember a small vessal there, big enough for all of you to sit in and possibly follow the water out and from there, make a way to Harse. "Even if you all wish to stay here, Neolandus can't stay here since the Queen is after him"

He then pauses for a moment and looks at his equipment.
"By the way, how did you find my equipment? I assume Cressida sent you to look for me?" he asks, unaware that the Red Mantis Assassins were waiting for him nor that his student still lives near the ruins of the school.

Vencarlo, I thought we told you to stay in the back, we can handle this! We will be distracted by trying to keep you alive vs. killing this Devil. Get back here with me.

He says annoyed...

"That's my friend up there and don't worry about me, I've faced great battles and I don't want to be let out of this one. it's very obvious he doesn't want to spend his time just watching whilst you all take this thing down.

As you open the doors you see a large three-headed woman pulling on a leaver that is attached to a torture rack that a man is strapped to. It's pretty obvious from how he's strapped to it that the machine is meant to stretch a man my his wrists and ankles until his limbs snap off like twigs.

She notices you just as Vencarlo calls out
"Neolandus!" he clearly recognises that man dressed in fine, yet filthy, noble clothing to be the Senechal.

The woman has her weapons ready in her hands and smirks as she sees the group.
"Ahh, new playthings." she states as she gets ready to cut you down.

and yes alex she has in one of her hands, a Kukri. *sigh*

Neolandus is sobbing as it is obvious he's been tortured for days on end and being a noble he has no experience of experiencing intense pain, but he's brightened up at seeing Vencarlo here with obviously battle-hardened heroes.

I should've really done the roll for everyone lol.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

You pass through the wall to find the corridor continues for another twenty foot until you come to a set of steps and a wall in the way.

For sake of sanity I'll let you auto-pass as you'd all likely try it again and agian until you get through.

Behind this final second wall is a set of double doors. They are more suited to a creature of Sivit's size, but a human could open them easily.

Vencarlo speaks, up, but only at a whisper as to not alert the creature inside.
"What is your plan? Shall we charge in heroicly or try to sneak in without the creature seeing us?" he askes as he has his rapier at the ready.

also currently listening to "holding out for a hero" lol

She sighs at the bickering over making a contract and if it should be focused on just Korvosa or more and she rolls her eyes.
"Believe me, I would be far happier in hell at my duchess's side, being assigned to guard a noble from the most deadly of assassins. Assassins who have trained before you were even born to kill a high ranking devil." she states, clearly disgusted with this place. "Out-thinking assassins that cunning is what I was bred for, but I will need to play some complex logic puzzles for a few centuries before my wit is as sharp as it once was." as she says this she drops her Kukris to Curnach's feet.

They have a +1 enhancement on them and are large sized.

"I have no experience with contracts, but some creatures in hell do. Boring, bookish creatures. I had to guard one once as he was doing accounting for Asmodeus." she states, all the while Vencarlo, being smart, keeping his mouth shut.

Vencarlo then speaks up.
"I agree with Curnach, if we have the chance to avoid a fight and kill the creature torturing the Senachal, we should take it. I don't want to imagine what terrors are happening to him right now." he states quite bluntly.

Sivit looks to the group.
"I know some about this creature, I killed one once but it wasn't easy." she states as she looks to the group. "They tone and maintain the bodies like monks in a temple and are known to be immune to all ailments and good aligned weapons can cut through them. She have resistance to spells too, but that's all I know."

Fake walls are at the entrance. As shown on the map you'll need to rotate the dungeon twice.

Pulling on the leaver the chambers in the dungeon all twist and turn. Vencarlo, making sure he's well within the room before the moving begins.

1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26

Krenn: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Llyra:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Curnach: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Jerin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Vencarlo: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36

did you give Vencarlo everything that was in his possession? The cloak of elvenkind, the belt of Dex +2, the masterwork daggers, the rapier (Rapier I beleive you did), the armour and the rest of the stuff?

Jerin, Krenn and Curnach all fall down at the first twist, the lever locking in place again for a minute, before resetting. Once you've all recovered you pull the lever once again.

Krenn: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Llyra:1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Curnach: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Jerin: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Vencarlo: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24

Krenn ends up prone as the chamber rotates back to the begining where you end up face to face with the keeper of the dungeon, Sivit, who has two glowing red Kukris in her hands as she leers with burning red eyes. She also has a belt hanging around the human waist that ends where the lion body begins.

She bows her head low to you.
"You have killed my master's son, Bahor and Virmanda. I serve the house Arkona, but they live no longer." she states raising up to look down at you all. "Who do I serve now that they are gone and no one can release me? I will serve you as I served them if let me, but I know he won't." as she says this she points accusingly at Vencarlo.

Vencarlo scoffs at this agreement.
"She is a fiend from hell! I don't care if we kill her now or leave her here to rot forever and alone, but I will not consort with their kind." Vencarlo says, seemingly in full power, even though it's obvious he can barely hold himself up on his feet, still being exhausted.

lol, just ran is numbers with him still with the exhausted condition, ouch. No one has restoration for the poor man? He makes Curnach's starting Strength look above average :p Also Krenn is currently prone so if there is a fight he'll provoke an attack.

Curnach Daveck wrote:

Sorry, brainfart on my part. Fire Shield will expire by the time we got Vencarlo healed etc.

Vencarlo, your in no condition to fight. Stay at the back.

"Heh, when I was your age I rescued a young noble lady from a evil man who attempted to marry her just to steal her family fortune. It was just me between her and 20 hellknights that served him. Ahh, those were the days." he smiles as he looks at his mask and sighs as the memories. "Also I don't believe we've met, miss?" Vencarlo asks as he puts on the charms, bowing and taking her hand, kissing it gently.

What are you going to do about the symbol in the centre of the hall to stop it activating? You are all aware of it last time you were down here.

"Back at the entrace to the labyrinth. Down the corridor are fake walls." he explains to the group as he gets equipped. Once dressed he seems to have improved, but still looks exhausted and warn out, yet now he's atleast equipped.

Llyra Bjorgan wrote:
Perhaps you want to take a minute to get prepared. We have some of your equipment, I have been using your beautiful rapier, but we have the armor and other items that you had hidden in your home. Seemed better that we take it and use it than to leave if for more Mantis Assassins who seemed to be hanging out there.

"My rapier?" he raises his eyebrow and then sighs, giving a nod. "So you must also know I am Blackjack. As much as I'd like to fill you in, we need to save my friend before he's killed. He can fill us in on what's going on with the queen and where she gained these new powers from."

Vencarlo caughs for a moment and then comes round, smiling at the group.
"I see you got my note..." he smiles and gives a small chuckle. "Please, get the key it's under her pillow. Before she returns." he states. He seems eager to help, however he doesn't appear to have any equipment on him, stripped on any he entered with.

Vencarlo looks over the group more carefully now.
"You havn't found Neolandus? Please, let us go and get him. I've been in the torture chamber where I last saw him. Before entering these spinning Labyrinth there is a passage further down. It leads to what appears to be a blank wall, but do not be fooled. It is an illusion and there are other walls that are illusions. He is behind those walls and guarded be a evil creature, looking like a giant attractive woman with six arms." he breaths, still recovering slightly as he is still exhausted and starving.

Curnach Daveck wrote:

Curnach kept Vencarlo talking.

Vencarlo, its ok. There are no Arkona's in the mansion anymore- and Glorio is dead, weren't you listening? We know your secret. Indeed, I have suspected it for some time. We encountered the Red Mantis within your home- and we opened the lockbox with your Blackjack armour in.

But Jerin is right. If you are truly Vencarlo, then you must truly be Blackjack. Your life depends on answering this honestly- when last we met, while you were disguised as Blackjack- there was a third person with us. Who was it?

1d20+9 Sense Motive on Vencarlo

Curnach took a step backwards and frowned, waiting for an answer to his question.

Since when did Vencarlo favor the Kukri- he always used a rapier...

Jerin- your right. Its not him.

1d20+8 Initiative

1d20 ⇒ 20

1d20 ⇒ 1

"I thought it would be obvious. Surely you've met him and now who it is." he states and then frowns as Curnach states that it isn't him and then he notices Llyra's casting on the rapier and puts up his hands in defeat with a smirk. "You got me..."

Curnach Daveck wrote:

Scooping himself up from the floor, Curnach called the others back towards the lever, the magical effect it emanated having not overcome his strong will. The young Druid smiled at Vencarlo warmly and moved over to embrace him with a firm hug.

Vencarlo, Blackjack- we'll get you to safety as soon as we find the steward. We slew the Arkonas yesterday.

1d20 ⇒ 3

"Blackjack? Is that a new greeting Curnach?" he asks with a raised eyebrow, seemingly not knowing what Curnach means. "We need to get out of here and kill that Arkona back at the mansion, he's not what he seems and he sent you here to die. There is a beast here, one of massize size from another world. I don't know what it is, but it will surely kill us if it catches us."

Jerin wrote:

Curnach wait! The Rakshasa's are master's of illusion. Let's just be sure it is him, I will cast a True Seeing spell...

1d20 ⇒ 2

1d20 ⇒ 5

"Jerin, friend, don't you trust my word?" he asks with a smile. His Kukri and Javalins are glowing magically as is his body from different auras. "Let us get out of here before that beast gets us, I can warn you of traps before you trip them and then we can kill Glorio."

Curnach: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Jerin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Krenn: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Llyra: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Everyone but Curnach manages to stand up and ep their balance. Curnach is prone when the room turns and clicks into place with the hallway.

To the north you can also hear a familiar voice.

1d20 ⇒ 2

"Who's there? I warn you if it's one of you Arkonas I'll cut you down!" the voice calls out from just outside your vision, the voice you recognise as belonging to Vencarlo Orisini.

Edit: The lever appears to be locked into place after using it for the rotation and retcon, no one is insane and Vencarlo Emerges from the end of the hallway on the map.

Vencarlo then comes on scene with a smile.
"You are all a sight for sore eyes." he says with a smile. In his right hand is a Kukri and he has a quiver pack with three silvery shining javalins.

Arianna Rothschild wrote:

"A pleasure to meet you, Signore Orisini" Arianna smiles demurely, extending her hand for a kiss "I am Arianna Rothschild, a newcomer to this little adventuring troupe. Am I to understand you've had dealings with our little band before? If so, I look forward to any future endeavors we may have together"

Diplomacy: 1d20+8+1
Turning to face Trinia Arianna offers a sad smile "Miss Sabor, I am delighted to see you well. I am sorry for the part I played in your arrest and 'trial'. For what it's worth I believed in you innocence and thought you would be exonerated. Unfortunately the Queen seemed more interested in pandering to the mob's sense of vengance rather than the crown's sense of justice."
Turning to Orsini again, Arianna says "I for one would be glad to see Miss Sabor safely out of the city, safe from the reach of the Queen until such time as someone can prove her innocence beyond any doubt."

And no, you can't have your chain shirt back.

"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Rothschild?" he poses the last part as a question as like a gentleman he leans down and kisses Arianna's hand, bowing as he does. "I helped the group out when the chaos in the city presented oppitunities for certain ambassadors who could stir up trouble." he gives a wink to the group reminding them of that time even though it was not that long ago.

He smiles softly as she talks about looking forward to any future endeavors.
"Well just remember, if you ever need my help you know where I'll be." he says as subtly suggests the achademy.

Vencarlo rolls his eyes at Jerin and points to the wig and wide-brimmed hat Trinia was wearing.
"That was the disguise. I think it should be easy enough to get her out of the city." he looks back to the rest of the group. "Due to the recent events of last night you can't escort her by the entrance near North Bridge. I suggest a slow walk through the city down to High Bridge and then up to Dwarfwalk Road. There won't be many guards so there shouldn't be a problem. I wish I could go with you, but my fame and history with the guards might draw unwanted attention to you all. I suggest you just all act casually and she will be out of the city safely."

As you make your way you find there is a sign hanging from the door which reads, “Classes Cancelled Today.” After a few moments after the knocking the door opens with a serious-looking Vencarlo appears and ushers you all inside.

"Thank you for responding to my cryptic note." he tells you and leads you down a hall and into a study, the windows which are tightly shuttered and curtained. He starts to talk in hushed tones. "I have a very important task for you all." and this all becomes obvious as he calls another guest into the room. At first she appears to be a young woman wearing simple travelling cloths, a wide-brimmed rider's hat and a wig of long red curles. Before you manage to ask who it is she smiles and Curnach and runs at him, pulling him into a tight hug. The hat and wig fall off revealing it to be Trinia Sabor, the alleged assassin.

Vencarlo waits for either Curnach or Trinia let go but if neither one does he caughs loudly as a single to force her to break the hug.
"You were all at the Queen's debacle, so I don't doupt you recognize this charming young woman, especially you, Curnach." he gives a wink his way. "I had only just reached my home the night of Her Majesty’s morbid gala when that rogue Blackjack and this startled woman arrived at my doorstep. The people’s hero and I have had some dealings in the past, but still, it’s been some years since I’ve seen the scoundrel. He was quick with his words, and soon swooped off doubtlessly to right some other festering wrong—but not before entrusting Miss Sabor into my protection and care. Although I don’t know Blackjack’s motives or politics, I trust his judgment and have seen much right done by his blade. He says the girl is innocent of the crime she’s been accused of, and I’m more disposed to trust a hero of the city than the tantrums of some bloody minded harlot playing at queen. He shakes his head and gives Curnach a sad look before saying what he is about to say. “The matter is simple: Korvosa is no longer safe for Miss Sabor. I’ve arranged for friends in Harse a couple of well respected ranchers to take in our beautiful renegade until this whole ‘assassination’ foolishness blows over. Its the first leg of the journey where we find our problem, though. Both the Korvosan Guard and the Sable Company have been searching for the young lady tirelessly they’ve stopped by here three times so far, and each time I’ve only just barely been able to turn them away without inviting a search. My most reliable contacts have gone to ground in light of the recent uprisings, and Her Highness’s considerable bounty for Trinia’s capture makes the use of new agents inadvisable. Thus, after some time to let her trail cool, I turned to you resourceful lot. Care to escort a lady home? I have also given her supplies and a horse when she leaves the city so that she will be fine on her end until such a time it is safe to come back to the city, if there ever is one.

"Sooner than you think, Master Ghaelekin." he smiles as you all leave on your way to Eel's End though Vencarlo appears to have invited himself along with the jurney. He takes it time to get to know you all, treating you all with respect but then once you cross the narrows he takes his leave. "Eel's End is to the east, the first pier after the last bridge over the Narrows." and with a swift bow he spins on a heel and dissappears into the streets.

"I hear you will be heading over to Eel's End today perhaps?" he asks with a smile on his face as shakes Skender's hand like a gentleman. "You will do well by staying with this group. I am sure the city will be safer with you all working so hard for my friend, Cressida, though I know she won't want me calling her by her first name. he continues to greet everyone in a flattering manner.

"My name is Vencarlo Orisini, Sir. What might yours be?" he bows to show respect before offering out his hand to him.

DC 20 perception:

You notice that the last two fingers are slightly odd. They do not move like his other fingers do and he hides it pretty well. His other hand seems perfectly find but his right hand has strange non-moving end fingers.

"Lamm's Bane, I like the sound of that one. To answer your question Jerin, I love this city. It is my home and I am glad to see such active warriors helping out this city.As I said, I drink here often when it suits me." he looks to Curnach then with a raised eyebrow, but decides not to say anything about the muttering he heard. "I heard from Grau that you all managed to escort him safely. His habbit hit him pretty hard that night from what I hear. I hope he wasn't too much of a pain."

You notice as you are all discussing a man is sat nearby who rises and re-introduces himself as Vencarlo, noticing the new man in the group. You see before you a tall man of advanced years, yet has a twinkle in his eye and a bounce in his step.

He wears his salt-and-pepper hair pulled back tightly into a bravo’s top-knot. His eyes are a cast of deep green like the ocean after a storm. He is of Old Chelish blood, and it shows. Orisini wears black leather gloves to ensure the oils of his skin don’t rust the pommel of his shining steel rapier.

"Hello all once again and new member. I would call you by a group name, but I do not know if you indeed have a name to use." he smiles to you all and gives a bow. "I assume you are all heading to Eel's End today? My school should be on the way there and I would like to meet the heroes of Korvosa." He gives his polite bow as he clearly respects you all and makes it known that he does.

"Actually I was heading back to my acadamy in Old Korvosa. I'd love to escort you as far as Old Korvosa when you're ready to set off." he smiles to everyone, bowing as he offers his services to you all. You also notice he does have a Rapier on him so he can fend for himself as far as you know.

As per the OOC discussion, I'm going to go ahead and assume that Pestico's gold hasn't been dealt with yet, and is sitting in the bag of holding await an in-character discussion...

Especially with a woman as beautiful as you assisting them, Mad'am. Please, take my seat.

Smiling at the man's antics (and happily taking his seat) Tapestry replies,

'You are a flatterer to be sure, Master Vencarlo... although as a rule I always worry... at least a little... about men who take my devilish appearance in stride... it makes me wonder what company you may have been keeping that I present no surprise to you...'

Turning to the Cressida, Tapestry asks,

'What task have you to set us now, Marshal? I'd hoped to talk with the prisoner we brought you earlier, if possible - will there be time for that?'

"I am no stranger to people who look a little different. Where some people see disgust on the scars I see someone who isn't afraid to show the pain she has been in." he smiles as he is clearly a charming but also intelligent man.

Vencarlo cuts her off at this.
"What my friend says here, is true. Indeed, If Korvosa had more fine folk like you, we’d already be out of this mess." looking to Tapestry he gives a wink and a smile as he steps over, taking her hand and kissing the back of it softly Especially with a woman as beautiful as you assisting them, Mad'am. Please, take my seat. as he scans the rest of the group he smiles to you all. "You are all fine warriors. It has been many years since I have stood in the presence of a mighty dwarf." he greets Krenn with a honourable bow, shaking the hands of everyone else. "Such harsh teachings monks have to follow, same for Wizards and you, young man. I bet someone like you has no problem with the ladies."
