Varian Seldlon's page

-Varian left to go stay in Maheto for several months, both in part to look for potential work, take part in a swordsmanship tourney, and try to make a name for himself as a bard. All aspects were met with... average to above average success. He also further discovered his "style", and returned more flamboyant than he left.

- He was inadvertently saved by a Lion Blade operative during his time Maheto. His curious nature had him snoop his nose around unsavory sorts, and got caught up in a plan to try and rally support for a revolt(or, perhaps it was merely a group seeking better work and trade deals, but best to not take chances!). After that, he spent a lot of time with the woman, eventually proving his innocence. She even taught him a thing or two in how to defend himself. He never had a real Idol figure before, he did now. She also gave him an old instrument she had.

- Made a small name for himself as an amateur singer in Maheto, nothing overly grand by any means, but, for a lad from a very small village, he might as well have made it big in Absolom. Most from the city probably wouldn't know him, but a small few might.

- Got into hot water after getting to friendly with Pullia with her father watching after singing at the public house as he normally does when Zeldana and Zanaia are not. Just the former part with Pullia is done usually without getting caught.

- Varian Lost his father to the mountain bane fever, He had never put any effort into learning the carpentry and woodworking craft before, and now on more than one occasion, has wished he had given more time to it. He knew the basics, and he could carve many things from wood, but he never had put real effort into it. To honor his late father, he has persistently offered to help Tomos in exchange for teaching. This also taught him to cherish things dearly. Life was too short not to feel.

- His mother had always been sickly after her fight with the fever, and often growing up he would sing her songs either she had sung to him as a child, or that he had heard, to cheer her up, or help her get to sleep. Lately, thanks to the steady aid of Leeka Roundbottle.

- His first real and actual lessons in music came from Zeldana Androva, who, upon hearing him decided to give him some guidance along with her daughter Zanaia. Perhaps as well, the fact he had varisian in him as well helped. It was during this time that he would come to grow fond of Zanaia. The two had a small "thing" when they were younger, but that didn't end up going so well, especially considering he is her junior. Despite that, Varian still has some mixed feelings for her.

- Varian is a highly self confident and self assured individual. Perhaps overly so, and while he can come off a little narcissistic, he is in fact not in love with himself as it were. Quite contrary in fact, and whenever he finds himself inadequate at something he deems important, takes great pains to remedy that. Though, he doesn't like to outwardly admit that. He is largely a "live in the moment" type, life having already taught him to cherish the time you have, especially with those you care for. As you never know how quickly that time can run out. He is friendly and good-natured most of the time, but can get fairly mischievous and, some might say, down right underhanded if he feels the need. Smarter than the average, he doesn't always think things through properly, and often plays the off the whims of his emotions and desires.

- Varian has a natural wanderlust, likely due to the varisian blood in him. He is constantly at conflict with his own desires to wander the land, and his desire to stay and take care of his mother and possibly have a family of his own.

- Varian, at his own request, was trained how to wield a blade by the local sheriff. He proved capable, perhaps even gifted. He would go on to prove himself quite the fencer, besting most of the other youths in town at swordplay, and even went to compete in a tournament in Maheto. While he didn't win, he placed a respectable 3rd. He has recently redoubled his swordsmanship training after having the "embarrassing" defeat at the tourney and his inability to properly defend himself from the ruffians the lion blade operative saved him from.

- He carries a blade given to him by his mother, she said that her grandfather had used it when he traveled the land. It is a strange weapon, one that he has yet to master. (an Estoc) Though he does practice with it, he has yet to meet anyone that could actually teach him in its proper use.

- Is very emotional, and attempts have been made to tease him for this, particularly when he cries in moments of joy. Not that he has cared for awhile.

- He has performed for Sir Eustus, in his very estate. While he enjoyed it, and certainly was fond of the perks, he felt it missed something a tavern or theater performance had.

- He is known for waltzing around town, helping the more elderly townsfolk with most anything. Picking up a package, helping to weed a small garden, or some other small task most others were too busy to help with.

Step 2.
- Varian has two primary goals at this time, the first, to enjoy himself, the second, to become a lion blade. A true hero of the kingdom as it were.

- He wants to be able to make a living off his musical gifts, if he can do so while bringing joy or comfort to others, all the better. He would honestly prefer it that way.

- He also often daydreams of becoming a famous bard throughout taldor. One whose songs and music are played throughout the kingdom, possibly even the world. To do that however, might require some new heroic tales to tell.

Step 3.

Secret 1. He has met with, and now knows the name of a Lion Blade operative.

Secret 2. Varian is not, in fact, the biological son of the carpenter. No one but his mother is aware of this fact.

Varian is on rather friendly terms with Leeka, she is more of his mothers friend than his, but she has been around enough that the two are amiable.

Varian and Pullia, while certainly not "official" as it were, certainly seem to have a close relationship. Mutters of "young love" abound the village. Varian if often more embarrassed by the rumors than Pullia. After all, they aren't even a couple! Usually.

Varian has a mutual disliking with Modia Aesernas, since he was the only one that ever really stood up to her when they were younger.

Esmarelda Seldlon, Varian's mother, was a kind woman that stayed in the village when her family left to continue their travels. She had been convinced to stay by Varian's father, the late carpenter. She is soft spoken for a varisian. She loved to dance, but recently has been unable to as she slowly recovered from her sickness.

Step 5
Quirks/mannerisms-
Whenever he gets flustered or put off balance, in those rare instances, he will often run his hand through his hair as a comforting gesture for himself and as a way of helping him think and to buy time.

He is a bit of a skirt chaser, often unabashedly flirting with any girl he finds mildly attractive. That being said, if he ever does fall, he falls hard. Its just never happened, save once.

Varian isn't always the most perceptive, or aware individual, often he can zone out humming to himself, or when he is focused on something he is doing, be it his swordsmanship, music, or magic. He is also known for being an "act first, think later" sort. Which has gotten him into trouble, especially with his mildly headstrong nature.

He tends to put his nose into other peoples business, especially if he thinks foul play is afoot.

Varian has a hard time keeping secrets, either because he forgets he was supposed to keep it a secret, he forgets it, or because he just can't help himself.

Memories-

He has memories from his childhood of rescuing Modia Aesernas, despite her being a bully to everyone. It was actually the first act that would lead to his popularity in town. She slipped while helping her father on a roof, Varian was lucky enough to be around, and managed to catch her when she fell. Likely saving her from serious injury. He sometimes wonders if he made the right choice.

His fondest memory of his late father was them sitting together, with his father teaching him how to carve scrimshaws. At the end of the day, they had both made matching figurines. Varian still has both with him today. Keeping them together in a small pouch on his person.

He still remembers quite clearly, thought it was over 5 years ago, the day when he and Zanaia "broke up". Or, more aptly, she left him. Luckily, no one but her saw him cry. And so far, she has remained friendly with him. Though they have not danced or sang together since that day.

He remembers fondly, strangely enough, the time he spent helping Leeka in her gardens. Something about the work felt good to him, and he learned a good bit about the plants and herbs. He recalls her softly singing to her garden, and how she had a lovely voice. He tried to convince her to sing for people, but she had refused every time.
