Hey everyone,

I'm working on a video on extra tips for Gamemasters looking to run a horror themed adventure.

I have a number of tricks I've used in the past, like changing game location, playing by candlelight, and not using a battlemat.

I wanted to see if there are any horror fans out there that have suggestions beyond these and those presented in Horror Adventures?

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,

My video group, Find the Path, just finished our first video in our new combat series, this time covering initiative and suprise attack rounds. I'm hoping to get some input from all our fellow gamers here. Let us know if you like it, have any constructive suggestions, or ideas for what you'd like to see from us in the future.

Thank you in advance!

My gaming group and I have teamed up with a local independent film group to start a Pathfinder focused YouTube channel. We just posted our primer on Strange Aeons, a short video to players to discuss character options and get them excited for the new AP. We are looking for input and suggestions from the Paizo community, since it's you guys we are looking to impress. If you could take the time to watch the video and tell us what you think that would be awesome.

Strange Aeons

We were also thinking about making videos on some of the older AP, so if you like this and are gearing up for one let us know and we'll see about making it! Thank you in advance!

I'm interested in how supernatural(Su) healing abilities, such as a paladin's lay on hands, works against wounds that require caster level checks to heal.

Examples of this are a clay golem's Cursed Wounds:

Cursed Wound (Ex)

Spoiler:

The damage a clay golem deals doesn't heal naturally and resists magical healing. A character attempting to use magical healing on a creature damaged by a clay golem must succeed on a DC 26 caster level check, or the healing has no effect on the injured creature.

or a Horned Devils Infernal Wounds:

Infernal Wound (Su)

Spoiler:

The damage a horned devil deals with its tail causes persistent wounds that deal 2d6 points of bleed damage. Bleeding caused in this way is difficult to staunch—a DC 26 Heal check stops the damage, and any attempt to heal a creature suffering from an infernal wound must succeed on a DC 26 caster level check or the spell does not function. Success indicates the healing works normally and stops all bleed effects.

There was a similar thread I found here but there did not seem to be a definitive resolution. I'll be running an encounter soon that will have to deal with this and would like to be able to give my player the closest thing to a rules certain explanation of how this works. Thanks in advance!

I have a player who is making a paladin of Tsukiyo for my upcoming game. I'm a big fan of the expanded paladins code Paizo has put out for the core deities and would like to provide one for Tsukiyo. Has anyone already made one or have any suggestions?

Do we have a general idea of when these dice will be released? Mid 2014?

I was just wondering if anyone knew who made the map in the center of Varisia: Birthplace of Legend (pg 16-17)? The cartographers listed in the book are Rob Lazzaretti and Ben Wootten, but searching their names I couldn't find any indication that they made this map. As the map could arguably be considered more of an art piece I'm not certain which of the contributing artists might have made it.

I'm a huge fan of this artists work, as I assume it's the same person that did the large foldout map of The Shackles for the Skull & Shackles AP. The reason I ask is I'd be interested in getting a larger copy of the Varisian map as well. If anyone knows if the artist has a website, or even a DeviantArt page, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Happy Gaming everyone!

Hey guys and girls. In case you hadn't heard, and most of you probably haven't, Maxim is doing a "Maxim Gamer Girl" contest right now. Basically looking for cute "nerd" girls, mostly girls who play video games and such. Well one of my Pathfinder players is the beautiful Kitty Martini (not her real name), a pin up artist, avid video game and pen and paper player, and founder of her own blog Gaming in Your Underwear. "A website devoted to random bits of nerdity, sexy fun photography, video game/movie reviews, and the occasional cute thing." -Kitty Martini

So basically I'm asking all my Pathfinders companions out there to help a fellow gamer. All you have to do is go to Maxim Gamer Girls (link will take you strait to Kitty's page. SO EASY!) make a quick profile (takes seconds and you can tell them to e-mail you nothing by un-checking all the boxes) and help our Pathfinder Pin Up Girl.

Thanks Everyone! Happy Gaming!

P.S.: Here is the picture she's submitted! Pin Up Nerd

The question is, when are you denied a reflex save?

In a thread I recently posted in I was informed that you always receive a reflex save, even if helpless or unconscious. I have always been under the impression that you do not receive reflex saves when you are denied your dexterity, such as when you are sleeping or balancing.

I can't find this rule in the core book so now I'm wondering if it's an outdated rule, or did I house-rule it so long ago that I began to think it was an actual rule. Anyway, thanks for any input!

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I'll go ahead and ask here. Where are the Council of Thieves Dice? I've got all of the sets put out so far, from Rise of the Runelords thru Legacy of Fire, and noticed that Kingmaker Dice are soon to be available. But shouldn't Council of Thieves be next? Chronologically speaking. Anyway, just thought I'd pose the question and see if any of my fellow readers know anything, or if any of the Paizo team can help. Thanks everyone!

Quick random question for all the masters of Golarion lore. Do they have coffee in Golarion? And if so where is it from?

In the real world coffee was first brewed in southern sections of Arabia (Yemen). So I figure in Katapesh, you know, if they have fields to spare for anything other than pesh. Perhaps there are regional varieties...

Also I remember there being an item in the Adventures Armory that was basically a caffeine pill. Would you think a cup of coffee would have the same effect?

I ask because I plan on having a coffee addicted wizard, and I like to include little things like this.

Thanks!

I've noticed almost 10 threads on Rules Clarification scattered throughout the messageboards, so I thought I'd start a thread that complies them for everyone's convenience. So if you've already helped clarify a rule for one of your fellow gamers, please post it here. If you have a rule you want clarified, then post it here and we can work together to come up with the best solution.

So, for my first question, I noticed that detecting secret doors within 10ft is no longer in the Elven Racial Traits (pg. 22) but in the Environment chapter, under Secret Doors (pg 414), it states "Elves have a chance to detect a secret door just by casually looking at an area." Also, since Half-Elves count as Elves "for any effect related to race" would they also have this ability? If this is covered elsewhere in the Core Book please list the page number. I know I could House Rule it, but for the moment I want to try the new rules as is. So... what's the consensus?

A friend of mine posted a thread like this on another site and got so vicious responses. I've found the people on this site to be much more open-minded (and less egotistical), so I figured I'd ask the same question here.

In the most recent DUNGEON (#136) there is an adventure called Gates of Oblivion. I was exceptionally impressed by the adventure until I reached the stats for Tenaris Xin. Under his race he is listed as a human shade. I was originally happy that someone had finally done a crossover between the FR and Greyhawk. Especially using one of my favorite FR elements. Unfortunately I soon discovered that it was simply the template, taken out of context with the history of the race, and portrayed as 'trading his soul'. Don't get me wrong, I still like the story and plan on changing it so the main enemy is one of the Shadowvar. But I was kind of upset.

I have been playing D&D for about six years and have seen things taken from the FR often, usually to the betterment of D&D as a whole. Feats, spells, monsters, prestige classes, and so on. But sometimes I wonder if perhaps somethings should just be left 'setting specific'.

I personally feel that certain things belong in certain settings. I think warforged, shifters, dragon marks, and so forth should mostly stay strictly EBERRON. Outside of the setting it was designed for the elements just don’t seem to have the same effect. Mostly, I think, due to the fact that they are so closely related to the settings history. Of course, as always, if an individual DM wants to include it in his campaign that’s his prerogative.

Perhaps its just me looking to deep into it, but I would feel kind of upset to see phaerimm and sharn battling thru the jungles of EBERRON, and the chosen of Vecna laying wast to the city of Greyhawk.

Recently I've noticed an astounding number of treads dedicated mostly to elf-bashing. 'What I hate most about D&D' and 'Why I hate elves' on messageboards both here and on other sites. Due to the fact that I came across these to late to really add anything of value I thought I'd post this.

The two major points I've seen listed are as follows:

1) Elves are stupid. It takes an elf 100 years to be a first level character. If this is the case than kobolds must be the smartest race in existence. You can be a first level fighter at the age of 7, and a wizard at the age of 8. On top of this you also live to be over a hundred. By these same standards half-orcs (who take an INT hit) are smarter than humans (who don't) just because they mature faster. This makes no sense. Elves age and learn at the same rate as humans for about the first twenty years (see Races of the Wild) and then spend the next hundred years partying, exploring, learning multiple crafts, and generally acting like teens just out of highschool (note the mostly chaotic alignment). Then they settle down with what they want to do for the rest of their lives (some 400+ years). How does this make them stupid?

2) Elves are arrogant. This I understand this even less. At no point in the personality description for elves in the PH does it say elves are arrogant. Arrogance is a personality trait given to a character by it's player (either player or DM). This would be like saying you hate wizards because they are arrogant, or clerics because they a holier-than-thou, or fighters because they are stupid, or rogues because they are sneaky. If you don't like arrogant elves, don’t play them as arrogant. Or just play a kobold. They are cowardly and craven little vermin (if we are still going with stereotypes as the rule).

I apologize if I have offended anyone who stated these as their reasons for not liking elves. I simply think you've had bad experiences with the way someone played an elf in the past. Oh, and I think the joke in OoTS about elves in diapers for twenty years was just that, a joke.

I've got what I think is a rather complex question. Well, two questions. One of my players has decided to play a Barbarian in my next game, and I've got two questions about Rage I would like someone to help me out on.

First is that I've noticed it says a Barbarian that is Raging "cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills... any abilities that require patience or concentration... or activate magic items that require a command word". So how limiting is this? Can he still communicate(after all, he can't even say a command word)? Could he tie off a rope and drop it down to his party at the base of a cliff(Use-Rope is a DEX based skill)? What about useing his bonus to STR to crank the wench to raise a drawbridge(I think it would require at least patience)?

My second question is this. Lets say the party makes it to 11th level. The Barbarian now has Greater Rage. The party gets into a running fight during which the Barbarian Rages, and when the fight ends the Barbarian is at 12hp. His Greater Rage is giving him 33hp. So if he stops raging he would drop to negative 21hp, right? So say he has three rounds of Rage left, but it will take the Cleric two rounds to reach him. Does he just stand there and froth at the mouth, or since there is nothing to attack, does he drop out of the Rage and die?
