On second thought ... Maybe my idea is a bit too cumbersome. I will take Erian's advice here and make mundane rolls as needed. No need to post rolls on every post, unless, of course, you want to. Also, If I post what you feel is a bad idea, please feel free to smack me in the head. Since I am still fairly new at this, I am trying different things on a Trial-&-Error basis to see what works in a PbP. Sorry for any annoyances I am currently causing. Cheers Arctaris wrote: I agree. We should pay the rent (I'll chip in my 10 gold!) and then save the rest. The idea of being turned out for late rent in Stormreach doesn't appeal to me and I get the feeling that that kobold wouldn't be a pushover. Keep your gold. We will use the bounty money we received from Tessik. Hey everyone, I am feeling that my running of this game may be a bit disorganized. I will have to admit that my mother is sick and my mind is not fully on the game at the moment. That said, another probable reason is that we have many players. So I have been thinking of this: Much of the beginning of this game will be focused, at least this is my current plan, in a wilderness setting. So my thought is to have players, when they post, provide skill checks in Spot, Listen, Hide, Move Silently, & Search just in case one or more is relevant. Also feel free to provide other rolls, if you feel that this is necessary. Also, if you roll well and it is not used, I will bank it for later use. If this seems too cumbersome, and you don't feel it necessary to provide a roll, that's cool. To keep things going, though, I may roll for you, if it is something minor. Any thoughts or suggestions. I hope everyone is having a good time. My mother is starting to get better, and I am starting to feel more focused on the game. Cheers I believe that there are 7 of us now. Valessa, Rokko, Sari, Merreck, Ruuz, Brick & Beren We have 500 gold from the bounty money. If we use this to pay rent, we are left with 250. We can split this 7 ways or we can start an account with Kundarak (sp?) to pool resources for our later foray into the deep. Any other thoughts? I am going to suggest that we save it as a group to pool resources later, or just in case we need next months rent. Hey guys, We have 500 gold. My thought on spending priority is: - Underwater breathing equipment and/or magic.
Just a quick list. Feel free to add or delete items. If there is anything left over, we can split it. Thoughts? Cheers erian_7 wrote: Does it have specific advantages? I've not seen it in use before--this is really the first time I've heard mention of such--so my predisposition likely comes more from ignorance than actual preference. The main advantage I find, I am the 'leader' in Dragonmann's Stormreach game, is that if another player npc's, the player is still in the dark regarding the happenings in the world and would not be influenced by out of game knowledge, plus it does take the burden off of the DM. That said, I will only ask if someone would like to be 'leader'. If there are no volunteers, then the DM will NPC for missing players. Dragonmann wrote:
Nice. Actually, I really like Dardin. By giving me a challenge, I can either give up or get better, and I am not a quiter. I have been enjoying the game since its inception. We have an excellent group of players that compliment each other. You are keeping the game moving with your well developed scenes and devious nature. The game is really top-drawer in my book. On the topic of treasure. Beren was too busy not dying to think of the spear, and it just seemed ooc to plunder the meat party. Cheers Dragonmann, Spoiler:
Bear with me here. You are much better at this than I am. The work on the PrC looks really cool so far. I will have to freshen up on balance issues to really give it some thought.
Re: the horrors I know what races are the masters of the goblins and "The Vines" for that matter. Since this won't come into play until 5th level, would it suffice to say that these horrors were only mentioned in inscriptions at this point. By third level, the campaign will probably meet this new nemesis. This will give you 2 levels to train on proper fighting techniques. What do you think? By the way, I really respect your knowledge of the game, creativity, and your game enthusiasm. So please throw critisms and suggestions my way. I have to be honest until your Stormreach game, I was only a lurker on the boards, and I havn't truely played for about 2 years. This is my first attempt to DM in a very long time, and with this many players it is challenging, but also a lot of fun. Basically, any advice that comes to mind as I am ripping off posts to the players is always welcome. Cheers Dragonmann wrote:
Hey, Thanks. Coming from an excellent DM such as yourself really means alot. Absolutely on the waiting list. Just give me some time to get the seven current players together, and who knows maybe an eighth will fit in perfectly. Any thoughts on what you would like to play. Right now I am having trouble juggling everything, but once I get one group together who knows. If you have something in mind, feel free to pitch it. I may try to foreshadow the arrival of somebody if I can. Cheers Hey, Sorry about the undead thing, I was so pumped about rolling a nat 20 that I had a total blond moment, that and my wife staring at me to hurry up. Regarding Brick, I was trying to have the character be productive with the suggestion that Valessa gave. I was also in a hurry and didn't want to hold the game up. Also, thinking along the same lines of Aubrey. IMHO, if Brick is a 2nd level cleric, should he not understand this. I don't know, feel free to override the action. You are the DM, so I will submit to your judgment. Cheers Dragonmann wrote:
Yikes! On another thought, I so wanted to see that orc just so I could say: MY NAME IS BEREN KEMBLE. YOU KILLED MY TUTOR. PREPARE TO DIE. MY NAME IS BEREN KEMBLE. YOU KILLED MY TUTOR. PREPARE TO DIE. MY NAME IS BEREN KEMBLE. YOU KILLED MY TUTOR. PREPARE TO DIE. Whimsy Chris wrote:
Good luck with the job. I enjoyed your participation in the game. Cheers Mothman wrote: Utak, has Beren given us some idea of his intent in hunting down this orc before we left on this venture? Has he stated his intent to kill / capture / question / track her? ie, what are we getting into?! I didn't get a chance to post it, but I planned on having Beren mention why he is here and that he is out for blood. Beren hinted that he would do this alone, if he needed to. I have a feeling though, that if/when Beren finds his quarry, there is going to be a story that will have him second guessing himself and learning of his quarry's motives for the assassination. There is also the Valessa factor. She could always sweet talk him:) Hey Everyone, Things seem to be coming along nicely. We have 5 fully functional characters with 1 on the way from Valegrim. I have not heard from Amergin, but I plan to go ahead with the game since we will have 6 players. If Amergin does decide to chime in, we will work the character in. My plan is to post some info Wednesday night. Unless someone corrects me, I will assume that everyone is riding in on the same caravan. If this is true, I will make one post describing what you see as you enter the North Gate of Erian's Glen. The caravan will be arriving in the early afternoon. This will give your characters the afternoon and into the evening to get settled-in, explore, investigate, interact, etc. I will ask you to establish your intent for the day and where you plan on staying that night. If you need more information, just ask. Also, make these rolls: Initiative, listen, spot, gather information (if applicable). Also, along with intent, post any other rolls that would correspond with your activities. If you are doing something specific, post a separate roll. That said, I want to mention that I try to focus on story and characters. With that in mind, I forget rules really quickly. Feel free to remind me of my errors, my wife always does:) I will be the first to admit that I am no master of the rules, so please correct me. I hope this turns into a great game. If at any time, you are feeling left out or unsatisfied with the game, please bring it to my attention. My intention is to involve everyone as much as possible. That said, in this type of game, it also helps to involve yourself. If your character decides that he/she wants to do x, state so. and I will add the scene. And always add your suggestions, ideas, and criticisms. This is the only way I can aid in everybody's enjoyment. Lastly, I want to thank all of you for spending the time and effort in making your characters and interacting with the setting. I truly appreciate your work and interest. Cheers, Utak For Aradove: Spoiler:
I could have missed it but I could not find your Hit Points listed. My guess is that you have 8. Also, remember to add your spells. Now for some goodies.
500 XP Skill Focus: Handle Animal Skill Focus: Knowledge (Nature) "Natural Bond" Feat (from Complete Adventurer) If you were hoping for something else, just let me know. These are not set in stone unitl entered on your character sheet. Sorry again for my error Cheers Dragonmann wrote:
This is something I wouldn't mind doing from Beren's POV. But before I say yes, let me get my Erian's Glen PbP running and then see how much time I have. If I am going to do it, I want to do it justice. This is a great game, with great characters and great players, so it deserves to be recognized with time and effort. I am finding out that these PbP are addictive, and I am really involved in the DMing aspect right now. Valegrim wrote: will try to get you a full character sheet and background by tomorrow as I have the rest of the week off after today; been working a lot of days due to a big audit at work; sorry about the delay. Sounds fine. I remember those audit days. Yuck! After I receive your character, we will start shortly after. Still hoping to hear from Amergin if there is an interest in playing. Lady Janas wrote:
For The Lady Janas: Spoiler:
First off, I would like to thank you for your criticism and candor. Lady Janas is your character, and I would not want to attempt to change her. Sorry for that. You will find that I am very easy to work with, and I appreciate your approach. If it suits you, please take two more feats of your choosing and add 1 clw potion. Please contact me with any questions or suggestions.
On to your question about combat. I will try to run combat as instructed in the Players' Handbook. That said, since this is not a visual game, I will be asking players to state intent (ie: my character would never allow an AoO), and I will DM accordingly. Thanks again. Aradove Dawntracker wrote:
Aradove, my sincere in humblest apologies. You are right, and I hang my head in shame:) I forgot you were an elf. I was trying to do to much on a tired mind. After work, I will review the rest of your character, and in the mean time, I will give myself 50 lashes. Sorry again for my counting ineptitude. Utak Hey Valegrim, I was thinking a little on the spellthief. Here is an option if you like it. Finding inscriptions that mention goblinoids and other evils that use similar magics found in the Rutanian inscriptions, the church decided to do research and form an army that could combat this potential threat. Hence, the spellthief was born. Just a thought if you like it. If you would go this route, please take creative freedom in developing names, of course if you would like names, then I will provide some. Again, just a suggestion to build upon or ignore completely. Looking forward to viewing a finished character. Cheers, Utak Reposted Character Generation Info. - For now, at least, any race, any class (the setting is new and it is lacking an extensive history, this is on purpose to allow variety) - 32 point-buy - Max. starting gold - 1st level, you get max. hp per RAW
- *Important Rule* No evil characters. I am hoping for a heroic campaign, but I can deal with neutrality, if that is your preference. - Gather Information, Search, Spot are class skills for all. To balance this out, if the class you choose has one of these skills as a class skill, add 2 addt. skill points per class / per level.
- Depending on how much detailed character background the DM is provided, the character may get a bonus feat of the DM's choosing. - Possible XP for character background. - With a PbP, roleplaying is important, and XP will be rewarded for good roleplaying, posting consistency, & posting content. On Action Points: At 1st level you get 5 Action Points From the Eberron Campaign setting. You can use an action point to add 1d6 to any d20 roll. You get so many action points per level, and they are to be used within that level on a use or lose basis. You can roll a d20 first and then decide to use an action point or not. The only time I require the decision to use an action point before you roll the d20 is if the DC is already provided. I may have added info in a post that was not updated in my file. May want to double check the thread. Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers
