Sneak Attack: Anum's attack deals extra damage anytime his target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when Anum flanks his target. This extra damage is 1d6.

Trapfinding: Anum adds +1 to his Perception skill checks made to locate traps and to Disable Device skill checks. Anum can use Disable Device to disarm magic traps.

Aura (Ex): Anum has a particularly powerful Lawful aura.

Channel Energy (Su): Anum Channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures.Channeling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot radius centered on the cleric. The amount of damage dealt or healed is equal to 4d6 points. The save is Will DC 20 and can be used 9 times per day. Creatures healed by channeled energy cannot exceed their maximum hit point total—all excess healing is lost. Anum can choose whether or not to include himself in this effect. Anum must be able to present his holy symbol to use this ability.

Spontaneous Casting: Anum can channel stored spell energy into healing spells that he did not prepare ahead of time. Anum can “lose” any prepared spell that is not an orison or domain spell in order to cast any cure spell of the same spell level or lower (a cure spell is any spell with “cure” in its name).

Lawful Spells: Anum can't cast spells of chaotic alignment.

Bypass Ward (Ex): Anum can pick the lock of even a magically locked door (such as one sealed by arcane lock or hold portal). The Disable Device DC for the door is considered 10 higher than normal due to the effect of the warding spell. Anum gains a +2 sacred bonus to Disable Device checks.

Appraising Eye (Ex): Anum gains a +2 sacred bonus to all Appraise checks, and can appraise an item with 1 full-round action, instead of 1 minute, if he takes a –10 penalty.

Bottomless Bag (Su): Sometimes a balanced scale finds an unexpected treasure too large to transport. Once per day Anum can turn any ordinary sack, backpack, or other container into a bag of holding type III or two bags of holding type II. The container remains a bag of holding for 6 hours; after the duration expires, the container resumes its normal properties, and any items too large to fit within its true dimensions immediately and harmlessly fall out of the opening. Unlike a permanent bag of holding, the bag created by this ability cannot be overloaded or ruptured, nor does it have any special interaction with other kinds of extradimensional spaces.

Eloquent Bargainer (Ex): Anum has learned which palms to grease and what promises to make, gaining a +2 bonus to Diplomacy checks when he offers an appropriate bribe (minimum 10 gp × the level of the recipient) during the interaction. In addition, he receives a +2 sacred bonus on Charisma checks made to compel a bound creature to perform a service when using the lesser planar binding and greater planar binding spells.

Access the Vault (Su): Anum has gained the power to access the First Vault, Abadar’s planar repository for perfect versions of every item ever made. Once per week Anum can summon a copy of any one nonmagical item (normal or masterwork) as long as its market price is equal to or less than 7500 gp and its volume is less than 15 cubic foot per caster level. The item remains with Anum for 6 minutes, after which it returns automatically to the First Vault. Consumable items vanish once used but function for their normal duration or 15 minutes, whichever is less. Even if an item is destroyed while in the balanced scale’s possession, a new copy appears in the First Vault. Anum can also use this ability to summon a magic item from the First Vault. Items with charges always arrive fully charged, and the price limit applies to this fully charged version (for example, a fully charged wand of cure serious wounds costs 11,250 gp, putting it out of reach of anyone caster level 22 or lower).

Items taken from the First Vault are obviously of exceptional quality and radiate magic (even if not normally a magic item, such as a chair or table), and their unearthly perfection is enough to make any intelligent potential buyer suspicious. The church of Abadar frowns on selling items from the First Vault, as it is essentially stealing from the buyer (as the items vanish shortly thereafter), which disrupts faith in fair trade and the church; balanced scales who abuse this ability lose access to the First Vault until they have atoned for their transgression.

Because there is only one perfect copy of each item in the First Vault, there is a remote chance (approximately 1%) that the item the character wants is unavailable because another person has borrowed it. If this happens, it does not expend Anum’s ability, and he may try again next round to summon that or another item.

Vault Jump (Sp): Once per day, Anum can create a one-way portal through the First Vault, which has one of two effects. First, he may use the portal as if it were a dimension door, but can only travel to areas within range and to which he has been. Second, he may use the portal as if she were casting word of recall, but instead of returning to his sanctuary he always returns to the closest active temple of Abadar. Anum's caster level is 15 for this ability, and he can bring 5 others with him.

Travel through the First Vault is uncomfortable and disorienting. Regardless of the distance traveled, Anum (and anyone traveling with him) arrives 1d4+1 rounds later and is nauseated for 1d4+1 rounds after arriving (Fortitude DC 15 negates).

Background:

Anum grew up on the streets of Sothis having to fend for himself. While Anum was never very healthy or strong, Anum used his quickness and street smarts to survive. He became quite skilled in stealing what he needed to survive, slipping into and out of the market with enough food to make it another day.

Anum had a knack for getting into places he shouldn't and an even better knack for not getting caught. Anum even had a birthmark on his hand that looked like a key which other whispered allowed him to bypass any door. However, Anum wasn't interested in stealing things that wasn't his, rather he wanted to overcome the challenge, satisfy his curiosity of what could be behind the locked doors, and sometimes to find a safe place to rest. He never took anything to sell, merely only looked at or studied the sometimes priceless objects.

One day however he made a mistake and was caught red handed in the market. The Sothis guards chased him but he managed to avoid getting caught by hiding in the one place they would never think to look, the Abadar vault. Unfortunately the Abadar clerics caught him instead. Before they notified the authorities they decided to question him, during which one priest noticed the key shaped birthmark. They decided that instead of turning Anum in, he would immediately begin training as a cleric of Abadar. Not wanting to get punished for stealing, Anum agreed.

Anum actually took to liking his training as a cleric of Abadar and learned quickly. He already had a keen sense of the value of things and convincing someone to lower their price or to buy something at the price you wanted them to was not much different than convincing people on the streets to give help or leave you alone. He also spent time traveling and studying the Underdunes always hoping to find something that had previously been undiscovered.

Anum kept sneaking into the vaults to look at the items stored there no matter how many times he was punished for doing it. They decided that maybe it was time for special training and thus he spent the next few years training in Katapesh as a special branch of the Abadar faith known as the Balanced Scales. Anum knew this is what he was born to do, discover lost, unclaimed, or stolen relics and return them for everyone to enjoy.

After his training was complete, Anum returned to Osirion to do his sacred duty. Ever since he has been traveling the Underdunes searching for undiscovered pyramids and tombs always hoping to find something that no one else alive has ever seen. He is often hired professionally to aid others in exploring and retrieving ancient treasures. Most of the major discoveries in the last decade can be attributed to him in some way.

Personality and Motivation:

Anum is normally a quiet but friendly man, more apt to spend a couple days in a library studying or in a vault appreciating treasures then spending socializing. Get him talking about history or see him in action in a old tomb and then the sparkle and passion comes to his eyes.

Anum is always looking for the next newly discovered tomb and being the first to set eyes on treasures never seen by any living person. Make no mistake though, Anum does not crave to posses these artifacts of history, merely have a chance to studying and learn from them.
