STORY:
Udaya is from a traditional merchant-class Keleshite family. Despite her beauty, she was always tom-boyish, which didn't set well with her family - particularly as they were trying to betroth her to form alliances. She was more likely to get in fist-fights with her suitors than play coy with them.

In her early teens, her celestial bloodline became apparent and couldn't be hidden. Her father quickly shipped her off to the Church of Sarenrae in Absalom rather than face questions of her 'scandalous' heritage. Life in the capital was difficult. As a pretty girl, she drew attention. As an 'out-of-town' girl, and an assertive one at that, she was teased and picked on. After she started sending boys home with black eyes, (Trait: Bully) the other kids decided it was best to just leave the mercurial girl alone. She found the arrangement acceptable, if a bit lonely. Boredom and isolation wore on her.

Though she railed against it, her celestial bloodline called to her and eventually forced her to accept a purpose... hunting down evil in Sarenrae's name. Even as a Paladin, she is somewhat iconoclastic and her mentors within the church have attempted to discipline her to no avail. Udaya has always walked the ragged edge of censure or being defrocked. Trying to polish off her rough edges (and get her out of their hair), they assigned her to various 'scut-work' assignments for a year... until UU decided to assign herself a more worthy mission. She journeyed to Ustalav looking to hunt down and destroy some great evil. Not that she knew of any great evil, but Ustalav sounded like a good place to look.

The dark country had surprises in store for Udaya. She was on the trail of a childkiller who moved among the social elite. To get closer to her quarry, UU 'invited' herself to a fete in honor of Baron something-or-other (she never bothered to learn his name). Instead of a killer, she met Professor Lorrimor. His own research touched on the murders. They exchanged information and their paths continued to cross over the weeks it took them individually to close in on the killer. When the sociopath turned the tables on the Professor, UU happened to be in a position to step in and prevent one more murder in a city already running thick with innocent blood. (Trait: Chance Savior)

While the Professor felt indebted to UU, she considered the debt paid. He had taught her the benefits of working with others of differing skills to achieve an objective. It was a lesson she put into immediate practice, cultivating relationships with like-minded individuals who could help her hunt down all manner of evil. It was many, many months before she received ill news regarding the Professor.

With regret, UU now travels to Ravengro to pay her final respects over the grave of her one-time colleague and mentor.

About Udaya...
Udaya, stinging from the rejection of her family, has fully adopted the looser and more cosmopolitan 'city' values. The only trace of her heritage is a taste for her native garb, a preference for light armor and mobile combat, and a deep and abiding love of horses and riding.

PERSONALITY:
UU is a firecracker. She is brassy, irreverent, playful, unpretentious, and mercurial. When she walks into a bar, sailors have been known to run out. While capable of being diplomatic, UU prefers 'straight talk' and she has moments of 'creative' intimidation.

RACE & APPEARANCE:
    LG Female Aasimar (born Keleshite)
    5'9" ; 145 lbs ; 26 years old ; Outsider (Native)
    Languages: Common, Celestial
    Move: 30 ft.

Udaya appears as a normal, if non-traditional, Keleshite woman save that there is a slight glow about her, like a hard to discern faerie fire. The glow intensifies when she experiences strong emotions. The only nod she gives to her homeland is a tendency to wear lose robes over her armor.

L03: Furious Focus
L05: Radiant Charge
L07: Selective Channeling

old character stuff:
About UU & Bear...
UU met Bear during a bloody bit of business in Baslwief. Having a checkered and criminal past herself, she couldn't look down her nose at the horse-thief for taking up the family business. And she really couldn't condemn him for trying to save his idiot of a brother, could she? It showed his heart was in the right place. What really sealed it for Udaya was the horses. True to her Keleshite heritage, UU was crazy about horses and riding. And say what you might about the horse-thief, the man knew horse-flesh and could ride like an absolute fiend. Any man who loved horses, despite it being more of a commercial venture for him, clearly had some redeeming qualities. Certainly a man like Bear with a good heart, an appreciation for horses, was handy in a tight scrape, and could tolerate UU's strange calling was worth the occasional 'nudge' to ensure that he stayed on a generally good path, no? At least, that is how she rationalized it. After all, she was a bit of a maverick Paladin and he was a well-intentioned thief and they just... worked together.
