SD Comic Con starts tomorrow, I probably will be too worn out to post until Monday.

Of course that post will probably be the Horror Corrupting the thread and eating it

Can't wait to be fully employed again, so I might catch up on my Earthdawn 3e Books!

Have to just add it to my wishlist, now I wonder why they went with "Nations of Barsaive" for the series, The serpent River isn't really a Nation, Region of course...I guess they see it as the T'skrang's nation.

OO yeah...

Have to just add it to my wishlist since I really enjoyed the first volume of Shards.

Nice mini adventures, well tied together in Shards 1, I hope Shards 2 is just as good.

Looks in on the thread...nope, no more action.../sigh

As you approach the area near where the fires might have been, a T'skrang leaps down from the tree, bow in hand, arrow knocked, and a funny look in his eye...you've seen that look in the Archer adepts back in Tsennan...

"This here road b'longs t' Sk'Reet Valkos" The T'Skrang says in a matter of fact tone. "1 silver t'pass me by un'armed...

a peaceful night, and another on the road the next day. You're of the foothills more now, the land is more sparse, you camp on the top of a hill on the second night. You note a campfire burning in the distance, yours was sheltered, so wouldn't have been so visible. Better watch out on the road tomorrow, who knows who'll you'll meet on the road tomorrow...

I will update the map tonight, the room turned right as you entered, it's 20 feet with, and 60-70 foot long.

It is now coming up on evening, what do you want to do for camp.

After the lightning lizards blast across the pathway, the rest of the day goes well, only 5 more days to Haven.

As you travel down the road, you hear some rustling from the underbrush ahead...

Rey and Glottal head down the road, several hours pass the day is nice, it's a good day to be on the road. The weather is warm with a light breeze.

You hear a whistle from outside the gates, turning to look you see Rey down the trail, he waves for you to come to him.

Glottal has his pack at his feet and is in the process of eating a breakfast sausage while he waits for Rey near the Bartertown gates.

"I'm early, hungry, and ready for a trip," Glottal says to himself and smiles.

Tsennan gates...the rest of the Tsennanites are heading to Bartertown.

You wait by the gates for Rey, it's been a trying couple of weeks, after Tartuk's death, his ork mother lost the will to live, and died two days later, funeral rites were performed, and a funeral pyre was set. It took two weeks to prepare the rest of the town for the journey, wagons and litters were crafted, and the rest of the supplies were packed for the journey. The last thing to happen only last night was the sealing of the Kaer, the entrance collapsed while a marker stone was set to indicate that the Kaer was abandoned, and to seek the Tsennaites in Bartertown.

several weeks pass as everyone trains, and plans are made to evacuate the village of Tsennan, the new stranger, Rey Ar'teb is very helpful in organizing and cataloging. It is decided that Glottal Cha and Rey Ar'teb are to travel to Haven seeking audience with Hiermon. The area around Parlainth is dangerous, only the treasures of the seat of the Theran Governor city Kaer/Citadel of Parlainth keep adventurer's employed, as the ruins are rife with danger. Spies from Thera abound in Parlainth, As many loyal to Throal are killed by Therans within the ruins as are killed by Constructs, Horrors, and beasts changed by the Scourge. Rumors even tell of a True Dragon within the ruins. Haven is a frontier town if ever there were one...

The rest of the Tsennites will be accompanied by the rest of the adepts in their journey to Bartertown, Glottal knows he'll always have a place amongst them, as a savior of the woodsmen, but for now, adventure awaits.

Arg...

I bought the books just for this PbP.... :/

I can run a solo adventure for just you Fray...we can continue from the point in the town of Tsennan, the rest of the party escorts them to Bartertown while you head to Haven with the necklace.

Yeah, it's looking like we're done. I'm really surprised more people weren't willing to give it a go as ED is hardly an obscure niche system - wrong time maybe. Anyway, thanks for giving me the chance to finally play it. Funnily enough I'm finding I'm on here more and more rarely these days. Only got 1 current pbp here now, and the posting rate has been so slow, maybe I'll just cut my ties - 1 less site to have to check!

My schedule is screwed LoL...I'm partially unemployed currently. Not fully partially...weird situation...decided to go ahead and look for a new full-time job anyway...

Unfotunately I have a feeling that due to everyone's schedules, the game is defunct...

I wish it weren't so, however if you guys want to run a solo or duo game and you're up for consistent posting, we can work something out.

The LRG 2nd edition..

I'll have to reacquaint myself with the character creation stuff an that..

If the game is a bit iffy, I won't put much effort into creating a background story and stuff first, I'll just look at doing a basic stated up character
Thinking either an elven nethermancer or illusionist as a first try...maybe a wizrd. Just realizing how much I've forgotten...
Let me know of any preferences you might have, or restrictions.

OK...oh another character creation thing that changed...point buy, with eac race having its own starting stats.

Deevor wrote:

Oooh, I loved playing Earthdawn, I have the 2nd edition in the loft, I'll need to get it down. Is there anything special you want to fill out the group?

I was kinda put off by the 3rd edition bit, but if its not really changed much since 2nd, then count me really interested.

Do you have the RedBrick Classic or the LRG second edition?

It's mostly intact...minor changes mostly, lots of stremalining like I said. Forexample, aggressive attack, you'd gain +3 to your result for your attack instead of boosting the step by 3. It's mostly to speed up combat, so you don't always have to recalculate your step.

The disciplines are mostly the same, but instead of everyone choosing the same talents based upon discipline, you have to take the normal 5, but each circle (incl 1) you can choose 1 from the Talent Options list.

As far as discplines, we lost the wizard. We have an Archer, Swordmaster and Elementalist remaining...as far as I know, I keep getting confirmation everyone's playing, but the posting has been sparse, I'm trying to jumpstart it right now...

I'm going to inject a GMPC a human journeyman unless we get at least 1 more. [mostly as background...he'll be a guide to Haven for the moment.]

Still recruiting, ever thought of playing Earthdawn?

Played Earthdawn in the past? Well jump on in for one of the best games ever made, newly updated to 3rd edition...the new system clears up some old problems, gives more discipline options, and streamlines combat.

Sytaz? waiting on you...

Then you can get on the road to Haven...

"Helooooooooo?" I posted to the game thread on Tuesday but no love...where is everyone?

fray wrote:

Ok, I'll be from Haven.

So what about the skill I already bought? Heartening Laugh?
Can I switch it out since it's a duplicate of the talent I need?

Yeah, it is a lot but it will be ok.

There are rules for turning a skill into a talent, I think there's a LP discount for it, I'll have to look it up. Or you can choose a different skill.

Tartuk's mother comes rushing up, her wizened face masking much of her concern, "Where is Tartuk?" Genna asks as though she already knows the answer.

The town elders approach, Geleem's wife and children appear, and immediately begin to wail over his corpse.

After the party describes the events to Genna and the town council the town elder then states, "We shall need to revisit whether we stay here now, once we thought we could carve out a new town here, but perhaps Bartertown would be a better place for the rest of us. This is not a safe place for a small town, this world is changed from the world of old."

"As for that relic, that blood-red pendant, we have no troubadour to tells its tale, a trip elsewhere would provide those answers."

Glottal knows of a powerful wizard in Haven, named Hiermon. He may be able to provide the answers.

This is the New Village of Tsennan.

No you can't buy a Stat increase and get a free one, the free increase replaces the purchase options.

I handed out enough LP to get everyone to 2nd circle so we could move on to the next level, as I said I'm going to accelerate the game to 4th circle as fast as possible, without actually starting it there. So with that extra 800 LP, you could increase 3 more talents to 2nd rank, and purchase two talents (circle talent and talent option) to rank 2. which would advance you to 2nd circle. As soon as you advance to circle two you automatically receive your Circle 1 stat advancement.

Skills are in the game to give a greater depth of character, skills are always outclassed by talents, skills often are weaker (Great Leap is in feet, not yards for the skill), they can NEVER use karma, and they max out at rank 10, versus 15 for Talents. Talents are powered by discipline magic. Skills are trained.

Knowledge skills, Artisan skills, and many non-combat skills are largely unavailable as talents, though some are accessible as half-magic uses based upon discipline.

I know it's a lot to absorb...heh.

fray wrote:

How much down time will we have? (or how many skills can I increase?)

Can I still increase my Strength anyways? Paying for it now and getting the free one at the circle advancement?

Is it worth it to have a skill and also have a talent?
Isn't that a waste to have?
(I know that the skill does nothing to help advancing Circles.)
Can I change my Heartening Laugh to something else so I don't duplicate/waste the points?

fray wrote:

Txoro,

Can I get a name for where I'm from?
(Since it's not from this village.)

You can either make up a small village you're from, or you could be from Throal, or you could have most recently been from Haven, and you might know Hiermon, I did mention some of you might have been dispatched from Throal or Haven.

Throal is the major dwarf city, as a troll you wouldn't be from the main part of the city, you'd be from the outer city, where non-Throalic citizens are from, you'd know about the Library of Throal.

Skill training times (from pg.239)

Rank 2 requires 2 weeks training and 3 weeks of practice to learn.

That would be for EACH skill you're training,

I don't think we're going to have a full 15 weeks of down-time.

In addition, skill (1) -> (2) costs 300LP (skills are far more expensive than talents)

fray wrote:

So... I can increase

TALENTS
Maneuver (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp
Parry (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp

SKILLS
Disarm (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp
Great Leap (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp
Wilderness Survival (1) to--> (2) = 200 lp

and increase my
Strength 7 to--> (8) = 800 lp

That's my 1800 total.

Then I would just need to increase
Karma Ritual (1)
Taunt (1)
to level 2 then I could be Circle 2.

Right?

You don't spend LP for attribute increases currently, I'm using the "Free attribute increase" option at each circle increase (this is because I want to keep the game moving faster, and those LP used for attributes normally can be spent on talents instead of attributes.) [pg. 238 top right - Free Increase]

To hit 2nd circle you need to get 5 main talents at 2nd rank. (then you have to have enough to buy your new talents at rank 1 minimum.)

I think I mentioned that on the last page.

Skills do not factor into the increase of circle at any time!

Geleem is the human that was killed on the road. Obviously you gathered up his corpse and took care of it on the way home as well. As well as gathering up the former PC.

Opening recruiting again for Earthdawn, we just finished Misguided Ambitions, and the group found a mysterious star shaped magic item...

A trip to see Hiermon in Haven is coming up...Haven lies on the border of PArlainth.

Current Circle: 2.

They might be able to help figure out what this 'thing' is <he gestures at the amulet recovered from the necromancer> and whether we should look into the journal or just burn it'.

'Then' he says heavily, 'we should tell Tartuk's family what happened. I'll take Lintak with me and do it'. He looks over his shoulder at the dead ork's lover as he says it.

Genna is Tartuk's mother...

OK, we're in Tsennan, you have to break the news to Tartuk's mother, and the rest of the village about the loss of the other villagers.

You have the magic item you found.

A Little RP action is required in the village. I don't want to narrate everything. We have Sytaz, Solonchak and Glottal still playing. I'm trying to recruit new players, but let's not wait or the game will comepletely die.

fray wrote:

Yeah, recruit away. I like this game.

I'm moving next weekend, which is why I've been slow to upgrade/spend my XP. But I'm not going anywhere.

It only gets better, once that circle 4 breakpoint hits, which opens up thread items...it becomes even better.

I may eventually make Thread weaving a circle 2 talent option as a house rule.

So we're down to 3 active players, I'll try to recruit 1 or 2 more, the village is the perfect place to swap out players. Down-time will be increased to allow you time to finish learning skills, no silver cost in the village for any of the training.

*Two* of the villagers?

The one that was killed by the cadaver men on the road, and the Tartuk.

That sucks Xabulba

Solonchak: additional 100 legend points for the excellent campaign journal entry.

OK, it seems there's not a lot of RP happening at this juncture. so...moving on.

After you dig the cairn pits, and torch the bodies, you hold a ceremony to honor the dead. You gather the villagers, and at the break of dawn depart, the journey back to the village goes without a hitch.

You arrive back in town, you're missing two of the villagers...

Solonchak wrote:

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but if we name this place, doesn't that mean that someone could come and weave thread(s) to the place - given that the cave and immediate surroundings are the site of some, shall we say 'unsavoury' happenings, including the death of one of our friends, would we want someone to be able to come and do that? I'm a bit unclear on what benefit weaving a thread to a place gives.

'Perhaps after we cleanse his remains with fire, then some sort of monument would be fitting?' says Solonchak. 'If we can collect some wood for a pyre, would you care to do the honours on lighting it Fenswalder? If we make it out in the open, once the fire has died, we can make a cairn to make the spot'.

Maybe *that* would be a good place to name; then it would always carry a link to Tartuk's memory so anyone who wishes to remember him and give thanks for his life can visit this place and draw comfort from it?

Exactly, part of the power of the name is the name it carries...

What is also does is tie you to that location. Imagine if the Battle of Bull Run" was remembered only as "The first battle of the Civil War." Not so significant any more is it? Names are tied together, who remembers Lincoln without the Gettysburg address? Custer without the Little Big Horn...and of course, The Alamo...

Anyone want to give this place a name?

Remember, names are VERY important in Earthdawn, The name of a location, an item, and people have meaning in Earthdawn. You will eventually develop a name for your group...(once we get it down to the constant players). Threads can be woven to locations, to items and even each other.

The cave is tainted, you can't remove the taint...yet...so what will you do?

Glottal Cha Cliffchaser wrote:
What is the normal burial rite? Does a body get burned or buried? or other?

I did answer it above, but I answered it more in depth in the discussion thread.

Now would be a good time to use the Campaign Journal to write down your characters perspective of what transpired.

Burial Rites.

Burial rites would probably vary by kaer and region, I don't remember any mention of them in any book I've read. If a kaer had a problem with cadaver men in the past, then I'm sure the dead would be treated more completely than a kaer that hadn't. Whether that would be with crypts, or with pyres, who knows.

No idea ;)

Are my calculations right other than that?

Look right to me.

Solonchak wrote:

OK, you'll need to hold my hand on spending LP. Do you need all your talents at Rank 2 to be able to advance to Circle 2? Presumably that would include Spell Matrices, but you could still have 1st level spells in them if you wish?

If I spent my points something like this:

Airspeaking 2 (100 + 200) = 300
Spell Matrix 2 = 200
Spell Matrix 2 = 200
Karma Ritual 2 = 200
Read/Write Magic 2 = 200

= 1100 LP

Then buy Fire Heal and 1 of the Talent options - do we still need to be trained by someone of tou discipline?

tou?

You have to be trained by someone of a higher discipline yes. Which all the characters that started in the Kaer, have masters.

fray wrote:
Is there a proper way to bury him? or bring him back to be buried? What's the culture for that?

Keep in mind that Tartuk is scattered about the cavern. His arms and legs all discarded to perform the blood magic ritual that Ladras did.

Glottal Cha Cliffchaser wrote:
This isn't in character. What do Earthdawn people do when someone dies? bury? burn? cairn?

it would be regional I think.

The simple folk ask: "Is it over adepts? Where's Tartuk? Is the troll gone forever? What are you going to do with him?"

after they find out about burning him "Good idea...we'll help gather deadwood, and dig the pit."

Glottal Cha Cliffchaser wrote:
Glottal Cha goes to have his wounds looked at before continuing the firewood gathering.

You don't need them looked at, you just relax for 10 minutes and you can burn a recovery test to recover points. Only an actual wound requires 8 hours rest, and you didn't take a "Wound". But, having it increased by Physician can definitely help.

Solonchak wrote:

Just checking in - back from holiday and ready to go

Solonchak says 'there is a spell - unfortunately not currently known by me - which may tell us if Ladras' foul rituals have despoiled the very earth itself. If I can find someone to teach it to me, I shall return here and find out'

Looking around at his wounded companions, the obsidiman sees the wounds they carry. Taking his medical kit out of his bag, he beckons them over.

If people are happy to let me check them over - it does take a while - I can add 1 to their recovery test rank thanks to my 1 rank in Physician. Probably a good one to think about increasing...

Fenswalder can tell that astral space has been tainted in the cave using his astral sight.

remember to let me know when you're using Astral sight since it causes strain

fray wrote:

Knowledge (Barsaive Lore) or something similar...

Most people never encounter something like this, and those that do, generally don't talk about it, it's very rude...and you don't want to give Horrors more power by talking about them...
