Gold: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5) = 9 x 10 = 90

This AP sounds incredibly interesting! I'm putting together a Half-Elf Rogue with the Spy archetype.

Starting Gold: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 4, 6) = 17 x 10=170.

Super interested! I've been wanting to play a 2e adventure path.

Dotting with interest. Last SF game I was in came to a halt, and I've been eager to give it another go!

I saw that Masks re-recruitment thread a day too late! I'm super interested in playing in a game. I'm currently playing in a Monster of the Week game too. It's still pretty new to me too but PbtA seems like such a fun, versatile system!

I've been reading the pdf and I like it a lot! Right now the classes that speak most to me are the Treasure Hunter and the Scholar.

Oh shoot I didn't even think of that. Don't change your guy, let me give it some thought.

I skimmed the character profile earlier and did not see anything wrong with it. Might have worked with Melody Malone, I suppose?

Oh yeah I had forgotten about that! That would be a fun connection.

I'll throw in my vote for Doctor and Companions as well.

I'm really excited to be playing this, I can't wait to get started!

I like the idea of a group of people connected to the Doctor through their organization too, especially if we don't split into 2 separate groups. And of course we can make the organization whatever we want if we want to steer clear of soldier-oriented groups like UNIT.

This seems interesting! I'll read over the pdf.

I have Phillip Potter, a Professional who is part of a secret task force within the FBI known as the Hunters that track down monsters and the paranormal, while trying to keep them secret from the world at large.

Background:
Phillip Potter joined the FBI at only 23 years old, the youngest possible for a new recruit. Phil has always had a driving urge to help those in need, and this was his chance to do it on a national level. Ten years into his career, he was assigned along with a junior agent, David Garland, to investigate a suspected human trafficking ring thought to be operating out of a nightclub in Chicago, the Devil’s Dice, in a part of the city most people knew not to go to at night if you wanted to make it home. While on a stakeout, the two of them witnessed something strange. It was the dead of night with a new moon, but the lights around the club were bright. Several young men and women were being led into the club and noticeably struggling against their captors. But when the agents saw these same victims exiting, they were suddenly compliant. They almost seemed happy. They were also being led by strange, tall figures the agents couldn’t make out clearly but were sure they hadn’t seen enter the club in the hours they had been watching.

Their orders had been only to take photos and collect evidence. ”Don’t do anything rash until we have irrefutable proof to put these bastards away,” their chief had said to them. David was the first to jump out of the car. He rushed towards the club, gun in hand, yelling at everyone to get down. Phil, making a mental note to chew David out for this idiotic action, quickly exited the driver’s seat to back up his partner. Phil wasn’t even halfway to his partner when he saw one of the tall figures leap in the air and land on David, ripping out his throat. Phil stood there in shock before training kicked in, and he fired at the attacker. The shrouded figure’s only reaction to the bullets going through its body was to turn its head slowly towards Phil. All Phil could make out were inhuman red eyes and the glint of a fanged smirk, bloodied from Phil’s partner. The figure turned back to consuming David and Phil ran back to car, speeding away, not even noticing the rest of the figures and their victims had disappeared completely.

David’s body was nowhere to be found the next day. Phil told his superiors David was reckless and killed as a result, though truthfully he felt responsible for not keeping control of the situation as he should have. Phil was placed on suspended leave as the internal investigation took place. After two weeks, Phil returned to work. The moment he arrived he was led by security into an interrogation room he was sure he hadn’t seen before. Phil kept calm as he took his seat, but inside his heart was racing, certain he was going to fired or even imprisoned over David’s death. The woman who walked in an hour later was someone Phil had seen around the bureau, but didn’t know what she did. She introduced herself as Sarah Bryson, and revealed that she knew what had really happened at the Devil’s Dice.

”I’m the head of a secret task force in the FBI that investigates cases like the ones you witnessed that night. We call ourselves the Hunters. It is imperative that the public remains ignorant that there are monsters out there in the world-”

”Are you going to kill me?” Phil interrupted.

Sarah laughed. ”That is certainly an option to keep you quiet, Phil Potter. But I had a different idea in mind. You’ve proven to be a good agent. This incident with Agent Garland is the only blemish on your record, and it could have been avoided if you had trained with the Hunters. I’d like for you to join us.”

It's now been six months since Phil agreed to join the Hunters task force. He's just finished training and is now ready for his first mission: To investigate reports of strange happenings in the small town of Howling Creek, Indiana.

Which Doctor is your favorite?

Peter Capaldi, once he was paired up with Bill Potts. He really owned the role at the point, once Clara was gone.

Which companion is your favorite?

I really love Craig and Wilf the few times they get to be the companion. But as far as long term companions go, Donna all the way.

Which episode is your favorite episode?

It's a tie between Midnight from season 4 and Dalek from season 1.

I've played a tiny bit of Adventures in Time and Space, on the boards here until the game abruptly died.

My only exposure to Monster of the Week has been the Adventure Zone podcast. I think the rulebook is pretty easy to come by online, so I'd be interested.

I don't mind using a different name to distinguish if we're okay with two operatives.

I'll happily take over as the Operative.

Hello! Sorry I wanted to post here right after signing up saying I was interested in an alt slot, but my internet connection decided to have itself a moment.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Hey I'd love to take the new empty spot but before I sign up I wanted to be upfront that this would be my first time doing organized play, if that's alright.

This is such a cool idea! I'll be back in a few hours with a concept and short background if you're still taking potentials.

Dotting for interest.

4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 5) = 18 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 6) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 4) = 13 11
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 6) = 21 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 2) = 11 10
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 4) = 17 14

Interested to hear about the allowance of archetypes first, but I'm thinking maybe a human rogue.

I've been looking at the Mysterious Avenger archetype for the Swashbuckler class. There are other archetypes that put a focus on guns, but with guns everywhere being in effect I figured it'd be easy to pick up a pistol, not to mention the whip, and be a sort of Indiana Jones secret superhero type character.

I'm interested in this, though I've never looked much into gunslingers. But it's never too late to try new things!

I have Dalvin Arikani, a gnome hunter who was beset by the Darkblight in Fangwood Forest during his childhood, and his companion Drako the dog.

Just finished the first episode. Enjoying it so far! Though I don't think I'll ever get used to Gypsy's voice.

Oh, shoot. I had it written down and forgot to type it up. I wanted to take Naturally Gifted for a trait.

Fezont Brichton, an orphaned gnome sorcerer who accidentally made a deal with a devil.

Appearance:
Fezont Brichton is tiny, standing at just over 2 feet tall. This could be attributed to his young age, but many in his family rarely reached 3 feet in height. He sports a neon green mop on the top of his head and has dark red eyes that seem to big for his face. His skin is a light blue tint except for splotches of red that would match his eyes, but when mixed with the blue of skin create a purplish appearance. He is dressed down, wearing an ill-fitting outfit consisting of only a shirt that is missing a few buttons and pants tied with an oversized drawstring. His shoes have so many holes in them from walking, they can hardly be called shoes anymore.

SPECIAL TRAITS:

Defensive Training: Gnomes gain a +4 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the giant subtype.
Illusion Resistance: Gnomes gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against illusion spells and effects.
Keen Senses: Gnomes receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception checks
Obsessive: Gnomes receive a +2 racial bonus on a Craft or Profession skill of their choice. Chose Craft (Crossbow Bolts)
Gnome Magic: Gnomes add +1 to the DC of any saving throws against illusion spells that they cast. Gnomes with Charisma scores of 11 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities: 1/day—dancing lights, ghost sound, prestidigitation, and speak with animals. The caster level for these effects is equal to the gnome's level. The DC for these spells is equal to 10 + the spell's level + the gnome's Charisma modifier.
Hatred: Gnomes receive a +1 bonus on attack rolls against humanoid creatures of the reptilian and goblinoid subtypes because of their special training against these hated foes.
Weapon Familiarity: Gnomes treat any weapon with the word “gnome” in its name as a martial weapon.
Low-Light Vision: Gnomes can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light.

* Bloodline Arcana: Whenever you cast a spell that kills one or more living creatures with an Intelligence score of 3 or higher, the caster level of any spell you cast in the next round increases by +1 for each creature your first spell killed. This ability does not stack with other effects that increase your effective caster level, and you cannot gain a bonus greater than 1/2 your Charisma modifier (minimum 1). The second spell you cast must be of an equal or lower level than the first one.
* Wasting Ray: At 1st level, as a standard action, you can impose either starvation or thirst upon a living creature you can see within 30 feet. This requires the creature to make a Constitution check each round (DC 10 + 1 for each previous check) to avoid taking 1d6 points of nonlethal damage. The creature must continue to make these checks until, as a full-round action, it quenches its thirst or sates its hunger (see starvation and thirst). You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier, but can only apply it once every 24 hours to any given creature. Creatures that do not need to eat are immune to this effect.

5 questions:
1. How did your parents die?

”Well my uncle Screwtape showed up a few weeks ago. He comes to visit me every now and then, but Mommy and Daddy can never see him. Or they say that, anyway. I think they were lying. Normally Uncle Screwtape and me have lots of fun together, but this time he showed up all frowny faced.” Fezont screws up his face in confusion. ”I didn’t understand a lot of what he was saying, but he made me sign a piece of paper. And then I had all these cool powers!” His face darkens. ”Mommy and Daddy didn’t like that. They locked me in my room! They were gonna send me away! I got so thirsty while I was in there… I think they were trying to kill me!” The young gnome starts crying. Through his tears, he says, ”Then Uncle Screwtape came back. He showed me how I could make Mommy and Daddy feel the same way. I just wanted to teach them a lesson. I didn’t think…..“ He trails off, whimpering.

2. What is your greatest fear?
Fezont goes quiet and his eyes dart around the room before speaking in a whisper. ”I’m afraid of Uncle Screwtape. He used to be so nice and fun. But now…” He shudders violently. ”I don’t… I don’t wanna talk about this anymore.”

3. What is your greatest wish? I ask merely so that I can ensure that it doesn't accidentally get granted during the game.

”I just… I just wanna see my parents again. Tell them I’m sorry.”

4. Who is your least favorite scholar and why is it Professor Togren?

”I had hoped Professor Togren wouldn’t believe me about Uncle Screwtape. I hoped he’d tell me none of it happened, that it was all a bad dream. But when I told him what happened with my parents…”Fezont sniffles and gets quiet. ”He just… smiled. He seemed excited. He wouldn’t tell me why.”

5. An untimely computer crash caused me to lose my original post and I've forgotten the fifth question. Instead I'd like you to ask me a question about myself - it can be absolutely any sort of question as long as it hasn't been asked.

I can’t really top the in character responses others have crafted for this, so I’ll just ask: Who is your favorite of Count Olaf’s henchman and why is it the Hook-Handed Man?

Dotting. Love me some Series of Unfortunate Events!

Just to be clear, this will still be a co-operative campaign. There are rival factions and some party members could end up belonging to one and not another, but the party will still work collectively towards the same goals. I am not a fan of PvP. Likewise, there are some individual XP awards as written but only enough to cause a slight and brief level discrepancy.

Sure, that makes sense! I didn't mean to imply I was interested in it becoming PvP. Just that being in rival factions would make for interesting character work.

DMG wrote:
Pauper to Prince is the name of the game here, but the journey takes place in a strange place among strange folk. As for the Cha bonus to Status, think of it as people responding to you as if you occupied a higher station in life than you do.

Ah, okay, I understand. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Hi Twilik,

Alfen is a great character and a very good thematic fit. I enjoyed the backstory and description. I see you don't have many posts. Are you new to pathfinder or just the boards? Do you have any PbP history on other boards? Maybe consider responding to one or more of the talking points that have come up so I can get a sense of compatibility.

Of course! I'm glad you like the character.

I'll start off by saying I've been playing Pathfinder with a group for over a year now, but I am new to the boards. I've read and followed play by post games before, but I'm only just now starting to experience playing in them myself. I'm currently in two on the Paizo forums, though only The Dragon's Demand is Pathfinder and has been going for almost a month now. The other one is based for a different system for which I only have a few posts now.

DMG wrote:
What caught your eye about this campaign? What was it about this particular game ad that made you want to apply? Also, is there anything about it from the description that concerns you?

I was pulled in by how different this is from your average game. The potential for PCs to turn against each other and grow in experience separate from one another and the consequences that could arise from that is particularly fascinating. Even if I'm not picked to be part of it, I'd still like to watch it unfold. The only thing that I could say concerns me is that it is a different setting, but the information you provided in the Campaign notes about this section of Midgard did help alleviate that.

DMG wrote:
What are you thinking of playing? You don’t have to wait to have a finished character before you let us hear about your concept. It’s fun to talk about ideas and it might spark something for someone else.

Well you've already seen my character background and build, but I'd really like to see Alfen have a sort of pauper to prince journey using the social status system. I had actually wondered if there should be a penalty considering his background, so he doesn't start at 8, which seemed like it might be high for him.

DMG wrote:
What is your posting availability like? What pace do you prefer, what can you commit to, and what’s the max you can do if things take off?

I'm available to post pretty frequently throughout the day. I have a lot of downtime where I work. Because of that, I could post up to 3-4 times a day when things are moving quickly.

DMG wrote:
Are you ok with encounters that challenge the player as well as the character? That is to say, do you mind if you need to suggest a course of action in order to use a relevant skill check to get a result?

Yes, I would be comfortable with that. While I've found making up what you're saying for a good diplomacy check in real time is pretty difficult, PbP will allow for more time to craft what's being said or done.

DMG wrote:
Where does your preference lie on the spectrum between railroad and sandbox gaming?

I feel like both styles have a lot to offer, as well as their own detriments. Sandbox gaming can be pretty dull if the world isn't interesting enough to explore, but based on your descriptions of the setting it doesn't sound like that would be a problem.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have here Alfen Greenraw, a Kitsune Bard! In the profile is also a general outline for advancement to 6th level; I wasn't sure how specific you wanted it so if you need more details I'll be happy to oblige.

Dotting. This sounds fascinating!

For your consideration, I have Kelpi Amster. A halfing Oracle with the Stargazer archetype.

Dotting for interest. I'm reading the player's guide now and am thinking of a Druid. Just one question: It mentions that there are three new alien animals available as animal companions/familiars. Are those available?

Are you still recruiting? I have the Player's Guide from 2012, I think. The one with Matt Smith on the cover. I haven't had a chance to play it yet. Would I need the most recent version?

Dotting for interest.

4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 6) = 1715
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 4) = 1716
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 4) = 1413
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 2) = 1312
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 2) = 1211
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 1) = 109

I would be very interested! I've been getting together to play with friends for a couple months now, and have been looking for a good opportunity to get into PBP for a while now.
