"Since you are so generous with your information. Tell me about the poisons she uses and the ones your goblin buddies make? Like this red stuff on this dagger?" Tolly takes another look at the necklace before tossing it to Allien, "Can you tell what this does?" Appraise and detect magic to determine magical properties, Allien Wondering what kind of teeth are on the necklace Can Tolly tell what kind? he catches a whiff of stench from it.Maybe I have just watched to many prison shows but I hope to god he didn't have a necklace of teeth shoved up his bum Wrinkling his nose in disgust he says, "These must be special to you. Hiding them in such an unlikely place as that. If Kronag decides to keep you then you can have your precious back." Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses. Wicked, tricksy, false! Baron Praxus wrote:
With a savage sneer across his childish face he says, "You heard em. What about them gobbies?" As he finishes he twirls the dagger in his fingers before stopping just short of the goblin spy's neck. Kronag wrote: My impression is that it's just one gauntlet, and that it's probably just for snake-handling. Good catch on that. A snake handling glove didn't even cross my mind. So 50s for the three of us who didn't get anything. We can sell the necklace as stated. French Wolf wrote:
Sidestepping to avoid the green ball of slime Tolly grins at the goblin. "So you are at least smart enough to speak common. To bad you are still to stupid to realize the situation you are in." He casually walks over to the dead woman. Carefully picks up her dagger still dripping with some kind of red toxic substance. He carefully weighs the weapon in his hand. Making sure to take his time and that the goblin has a clear picture of what will be happening next. "Now I ain't no expert on poisons, but I can tell you this doesn't look like the berry jam I like on my bread. I can also tell you that you only have one chance to tell us what you know." Tolly slowly stands up and starts walking towards the goblin. Anymore back talk from him and Tolly jams the dagger into the goblins foot. If he talks quick we might be able to save. Of course I don't expect Praxus to be to kind on that and will just finish him off. No use in having a 'spy' or for that matter goblin running around warning everyone. Tolly steps out of the southern building holding the box and the gauntlets. With a big smile on his face he says, "Look at all this they left for us. Mighty nice of them, eh?" "These big gloves might be worth something. The box has about 50 silvers and a junk necklace. The silvers look like they come from all over the area. All kinds of different kingdoms money in this one. The necklace may fetch 50 gold at a decent size town. I think yer right. These guys be terrible toll guards. They ask 10 gold each but they only has 150 silvers and a broken necklace. Either no one comes this way, these turds send their money somewhere else, or they got it hidden someplace." He sees Praxus come out with the goblin in tow, "This the spy, eh?" In Goblin he says, Kuush maagaan o dhaan akaaraal tuuc or a ghuukhaagaan huuch. An kuukac agaan huuc duun duul or tekec shuugaan ac daan kegaar akaan o daach an dar daan dac duun muul" If you speak Goblin:

"Look here you flea infested son of a motherless gnoll. Us longshanks are going to throw your stinking corpse in the river unless you tell us what we wants to know" Loot so far:

Not complaining, just worrying about the situation Tolly will be in when he rolls low multiple times in a row. Startled, Tolly slams the lid shut on the box. "What the ..." Flexing his fingers and checking his hand he says to Kronag, "Ya see that thing? Quick as lightning but not quick enough." Grinning as Kronag he says, "There might be something good in there. Or maybe we can throw it on some goblins to see how poisonous it is." Thinking it over for a second, "Nah, wouldn't be worth lugging that thing around. I am going to let it out in the field so we can check the box." Tolly proceeds to let the viper out away from the others and checks the box. French Wolf wrote:
Whew just enough. Continuing to look through the guard posts he spots a French Wolf wrote: Under the lower bunk pillow next to the locked chest is an iron-shod gauntlet with a two foot leather sleeve. Tolly will pocket the small pouch of 5g and the agate. "Hey look at this." Tolly holds up a box with 100 silvers wrapped in squares of cloth. "Wait a second there is something else down here." He carefully pulls up another box with a scroll inside. "Allien, this might be something you could use." Tolly nods at Allien. He quickly searches the buildings for some rope starting with the one closest to him. Top one first "I'll get him tied up right quick." Pulling the big mans arms behind his back Tolly ties the rope securely around his wrists. He then pulls some rope back and runs it tautly down to his legs where he ties his ankles up. "There you go" He says as he kicks the man in his thigh. "This dummy ain't going no where." He then moves to retrieve his sling where he dropped it near the barrels. Mr. Wolf:
Spoiler:
Perception (1d20 5=22) Check to find any valuable looking loot in the rooms. If something stands out such as sacks of gold, important looking documents, or anything else that can be easily tucked into hidden pockets he grabs it quickly.
There is a loud roar from behind him. Spinning around Tolly sees a flash of colors. He quickly covers his eyes blinking rapidly to clear the effect. Just as quickly as it started the effect has subsided. In its wake is a burly man with a gigantic sword laying on the ground under him. Tolly gives the slinger an approving look and a quick nod before spinning back around. Continue to ready an action to attack anyone coming out the door I am covering. Dodge still in affect. "Why am I standing in here waiting to get skewered as they come out." Just as the thought finishes an explosion of dirt and wood splinters causes him to jerk back. Not an inch away from where his head was is an arrow embedded halfway up its hilt wavering slightly from the impact. Eyes wide he spins his head around to the southern archer and gives him the finger. "Great, not only am I going to get sliced by the guards or fried to a crisp by their slinger, but now I gotta worry about being a pincushion." He gives Praxus the evil eye for such a foolish plan as he hides in safety behind his shield. Using dodge on the southern archer. +1 AC until my next turn. How many rounds is it to put armor, etc on? Maybe we should just bust in and catch them in the act. I will leave that to the big guys to decide. Now that Allien and his magical hand have the door covered Tolly moves 5' to O9 to cover that door. ready action: attack on anyone that comes out Don't know if it is to late but I forgot to confirm the crit roll. crit confirm (1d20 5=18) so that is a whole 2 damage now. Tolly walks to I11 leaving the opening in the barrels available for the others. Rubbing tears from his eyes, and wiping his snot on his arm he pleads, "Thank you sirs, but we do not even have 5g between the four of us. Couldn't you find it in your souls to let us through to see my Uncle Hiram?" I don't know if you want new rolls for this new attempt. So here goes. Basically I know we are not going to pay, so if my attempt fails then the way is open for the others to run through. Hobbling his way past the two brutes he gives the guards his most pitiful, poverty stricken look. "Please sirs, may we pass? I have an uncle ahead that is bed stricken and I am all that is left. He hasn't much time left in this world. And I wouldn't know what to do if he were to pass without a member of his own family to hold his weary hand as he sets foot across the great divide." Looking up at the sky with tears streaming down his face, "Finally seeing his wife again, who passed four years ago. Aunt Natty, oh how I miss your corn muffins." Gently sobbing he peaks at the guards reaction from shielded eyes as he wipes his face. Persuade on bridge guards (1d20 6=24) wow, nice roll on that one. If my story doesn't make them feel sad maybe that roll will :) Edit: I put persuade when I meant to type Deception. As the others finish speaking Tolly's childlike voice pipes in, "Like cap said the direct approach looks best. How about dragging me down there by my arm as I kick and scream. Bring up Angoll's name a few times. Maybe I took some items that belonged to him or I am a long lost son hes been looking for. We might be able to slip right on by that way." Baron Praxus wrote: Just to confirm, there's a line of barrels across the bridge on the near side, 2 guards on the far side, and beyond that, 2 archers on rooftops inside the stockade. Is that right? From his description it sounds like both sides of the bridge have barrels. It sounds like a reasonable line of defense to prevent the guards from being overrun and giving the archers ample time to call for reinforcements while raining down arrows. "Looks as if someone with some brains set this up. Those barrels will slow ya down while the bowmen pincushion ya." Squinting towards the buildings, "The problem I see is we don't know where that slinger be at." Looking at the river flowing under the bridge he says, "I would slip sneak past them, but I ain't getting into that water unless the risk of me drowning is smaller than whats chasing me. If they ain't paying to much attention I could slip past them to check those buildings out. Now if you look close those bowmen are standing on open roof in the middle of the day. That's smart and dumb. They can see everything but that leaves them open without cover. I wouldn't be much good sneaking on them and once the guards are fighting they will let the ones in the building know for sure." Mr. Wolf, can I tell if the guards/archers noticed us yet? *edit*
It seems he is back on his feet with a wide smile across his face before some of you can even react. "Ya got me Cap. A slinger with an intellect like that, no wonder you saw that one coming a mile away." He dusts his clothes off, which look as if a pincher wouldn't even wear them, puffs out his chest, and introduces himself, "Tolman Cooper at yer service Cap. Everyone calls me Tolly though." He flourishes with style and grace that would make a court noble look like a fool. "Since we are about to leave I guess you might want some of your stuff back." Winking at the group he drops a sack of gold, wooden holy symbol, dagger, potion of cure light wounds, spell component pouch, and punching dagger on the table, "The very small sack of gold and holy symbol came off you,"He nods at Kronag. "The potion and spell pouch came from the Elf with the brains, and the punching dagger came of the other big guy. Did you know you only have 5 silvers and 8 pence on you? I would have taken that to, but it would have been an insult to my skills." He looks at each of you still smiling, "All in good fun, heh Cap? I wouldn't have kept it all." He says with a grin. Thanks for saving my intro. :) Kronag wrote:
As soon as you finish speaking the door bangs open and a small blond blur whips by the table and hides behind the big human Baron. Before anyone can react the young, blond haired, blue eyed child, grimy and obviously starving looks pleadingly at you. Spoiler:
Sorry for interjecting Tolly before you approved him, but I thought I would get him into the game. The stats we can work on if they need to be adjusted which they probably do. As for his intro here is what I had been thinking of. Tolly was going to work his pitiful, malnourished look to get a hot meal or two and a dry bed to sleep in at the shrine. However after seeing the Elf walk in looking as if he owned the place another idea formed in his head. Almost out of money and no civilization close by he decided to play his role out above. His plan is to take whatever money he can find after everyone is asleep and steal one of the horses. As he was scouting out the building he happened to overhear parts of their conversion about the castle. Their talk of castles and nobility got him thinking of even bigger plans. This might be his big chance at some real wealth. If the others don't want him right away he will follow them out. (Once they give up on waiting for the 4th member) Shadowing them for a day or two before openly walking into their camp at night. If they happened to get attacked before that happens he planned to flank their attackers and show his worth hoping they will take him on. In case the other guy doesn't show up here is your replacement. I decided to stay with the halfling as he picked mainly because of the bonuses. A couple things I was not sure of:
The background for this character will revolve around him using his childlike appearance to deceive and trick his way into whatever he needs. Tolly lives on the streets or traveling with merchants who believe he is an orphan. Stealing, pick pocketing, lying, and cheating are some of the things he does during a typical day. He believes he has a right to a better life and the only way to get that is by taking it from others. However what little bit of money he gets is quickly spent on buying affections from whatever working woman is willing to spend a few hours with a "child" or gambling it all away in the back alleys with all the other pauper kids. |
