Okay, so I know any particular rogue talent can only be chosen once unless otherwise stated. The rogue talent Combat Trick allows a rogue to choose a combat feat (as long as you meet the requirements of course since it doesn't say otherwise). My question is whether I can get another combat feat by getting Combat Trick again by choosing it through the Ninja Trick talent? As far as I can find nothing RAW says anything against it. And although I'm a little conflicted on whether it's a bit cheesy to do, at the same time I don't really feel its unbalanced or overpowered to do so. In fact I could swear there was some kind of rule that allowed you to take that talent twice anyway. Maybe I'm crazy or it's some forgotten relic of 3.0 or 3.5 and I'm just misremembering. Anyway, let me know what you think. I'm building a barbarian to use "Overbearing Advance" and "Overbearing Onslaught". I already have "Improved Overrun", and "Greater Overrun". Can anyone think of any feats, traits, or items, magic or otherwise that give bonuses to the Overrun combat maneuver? Oh and I would prefer that any suggestions would be legal for PFS organized play. Thanks in advance. Edit: I'm also looking for anything that might increase the size category I can use overrun against. Hello, due to hard times and trying to make sure Christmas will still be good for everyone on my list this year I need to cancel my subscriptions and any pending orders.
Thanks, Aaron I'm looking into using my numbers app to track party xp for my home campaign. I want to have a cell for each character that will take the resulting sum at the bottom and compare it to the xp table and spit out a result of what level the character is based on how much xp they have.
Thanks for any help. Ok, so here's my gripe.
So here's the deal: As an example at tenth level a standard wizard could cast a 10d6 fireball with a 20 ft. radius using one 3rd level spell slot. However for a word caster to accomplish the same thing he would need to use a fifth level spell slot in addition to using a meta word of which he only has 5 uses per day at this point. Anyone else disappointed by this? Hello, I need you guys to cancel all my subscriptions except for the Adventure Path and Roleplaying (big core books, bestiary 2 etc...) one.
Looking at the shadow dancer it seems like a really cool prestige class to play. However it also means you have to give up alot of functionality of your other class, be it rogue or bard or what have you.

Disclaimer: Yes, I realize this build will have flaws due to maxing out a few tricks. It's more an exercise in discovering what's possible. Starting Stats:
Here's the build so far:
First, I pumped my strength to a laughably ridiculous amount.
Here's what I've got so far-
Can anyone think of any other sources of bonus to strength of a different type than those listed above? Secondly, he's going to be doing alot of overrunning. But once again I've run out of ideas as to where to squeeze more bonuses from. Here's what I've got-
For a grand total CMB +25 for overrun which I think will probably go through several mooks even with a -2 per each additional. And of course I'll be boosting my speed with expeditious retreat That's where I run out of bonuses. Can anyone else think of any feats/traits/odd ideas to squeeze a few more bonuses from? Essentially the idea is with a few rounds of prep he'll be able to move apx 50 ft around the battlefield overrunning multiple opponents until one finally stops him. Doing 11 damage to each one while getting at least 4 attacks of opportunity for an average of 25 damage each time.
So what does everyone think? Hi, I recently had to get my bank to reissue my atm/debit card that I use to pay for my subscription shipments due to a failed attempt by some party to bill me some fraudulent charges. So until my new card gets to me in the mail my subscription payment won't be able to post.
Thanks, Aaron Can't find anywhere in RAW to clarify this for sure. But I'm wondering if its possible to buy a composite bow of +0 at character creation with the Heirloom Weapon trait in order to gain masterwork, and then pay to upgrade the strength rating later, and therefore not waste the trait when you later want to add magical qualities and greater strength damage? My gut says no simply because it seems too good to be true, but not sure what the developers had in mind. And I've no idea what earlier additions stated on the subject. Hi Sara and Cosmo, I just renewed all of my subscription services except for the roleplaying game one. This is because I already picked up the pdf from your store and the dead tree copy from my flgs. If you guys could maybe renew that subscription for the next book that'll be coming out I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Aaron I just noticed this the other day, and had not previously been aware that the spell invisibility, and therefore all of it's higher level versions, since they state they act like invisibility, all have a weight limit of 100 lbs per CL. I'm willing to bet this effectively rules out by RAW most large or larger monsters from ever taking advantage of this tactic. Since even if a dragon or a giant or whatever has a decent caster level, the majority of them are going to weigh in excess of 2000 lbs which would effectively prohibit them from gaining any advantage of invisibility even at CL 20. Any thoughts, ways around this by RAW? Any interjections by the developers would be appreciated. Was this intentional? Sadly, the bills are catching up with me and I've gotta cut some corners and unfortunately I can't convince myself that this is a need as opposed to a want. So I need you guys to cancel all of my subscriptions for now. Hopefully finances will work themselves out and I'll be able to renew my subs at some point but I'm not sure when that will be. Thanks, Aaron Does anyone else think this is strange? Cayden Cailean, the god of freedom, ale, wine, and bravery. Who is often depicted wearing broken shackles and who is a major opponent of slavery, does not grant access to the Liberation Domain. Yet, Desna. The goddess of dreams, stars, travelers, and luck. Does grant access to the Liberation Domain. I think perhaps this may be an overlooked errata, maybe Liberation and Charm between the two of them need to be switched. Anyone else notice this strangeness? Okay, so I'm going through spells for a druid I made and I'm looking at Call Lightning and going wait... is this even worth it? My stance is that as a 3rd level spell, it should be a reasonable distance better than the second level Flaming sphere which does similar damage but only requires a move action to direct to the next target. And, parts of the Call Lightning spell sound like that is what it should take to use. From the second paragraph of the spell. My bold. Core Rulebook wrote:
Here is a snip from Flaming Sphere. Core Rulebook wrote:
So, although Call Lightning last a good deal longer, you can only call a maximum of 10 bolts with it, effectively reducing what should be a large amount of usefulness to 10 rounds. Looking at both spells, I cannot see any point where given the choice between the 2nd level Flaming sphere, and the 3rd level Call Lightning that I would ever choose Call Lightning. Flaming Sphere at a lower level has much more versatility, allowing me to continue casting as I do damage, and nearly as much movement as it can ascend or jump 30 ft to reach a target. I don't understand why Call Lightning is 3rd level unless theres been a clerical error and it's actually a move action to call a bolt. Sorry for the rambling nature of my post, but what does everyone else think? Any thoughts? Ok, my question, is whether it's allowed to add stuff like the dwarven dorn-dergar and other book specific weapons to the Pathfinder SRD and other such listings? I've been trying to make a spreadsheet with a complete list of all the weapons, all the armor, etc... that's available in Golarion. This I'm working on for my own use, but I thought it might be easier if someone else had already done the work and added it to one of the wiki's or SRD's. Any thoughts? Ok, so I looked around for quite some time on the interwebs looking for a good form fillable stat card generator to use for monsters and other creatures that I need the information for when I run a game. Alas, I hadn't found any to suit me and so I decided to design my own stat cards. I created a pdf with a dynamic form fillable stat card that with the users interaction can be customized for more or less info needed for each card, both front and back with a space at the bottom of the backside for the insertion of an image if desired. I would also like to get something back from the long hours I put in getting it all to work like it's supposed to. I have been entertaining the idea of putting it up for sale online similar to many other individuals I've seen on this site as well as the drivethru rpg site. I was thinking of something like 2 dollars as a price point. I know I myself would have paid as much if I could have found one already out there. My problem is I've never tried to market anything before, online or otherwise. I'm not sure what all would be required to make it conform to Paizo's Pathfinder Compatibility policy, or what I would need to do to put it up for sale on there site. So my question is who can I talk to that would know about this stuff and be willing to give me advice on what I need to do and which ducks I need to put in a row? Ok, so I've started using the Scribus program to create my own pdfs. And now I need some help figuring out how to accomplish something. I would like to create a fillable form field on the finished pdf that will allow me to essentially just right-click and add an image. I know I've seen this before on a character sheet that allowed you to add a pic of your character while you were filling it out so when you printed it out then you had all your stats and stuff and an image to go along with it. Of course it's been a while since I remember seeing it and I'm not sure it was a pdf, it could have been a spreadsheet version or something. But I would think this would be possible with a pdf. Also, I'm trying to create my own pdf for filling out and printing monster stat cards and am realizing theres a good deal of variation in what info and fields are necesary. I was wondering what I would have to do to create like a drop down box or something or maybe some check boxes you could select that would add each necesary part of a stat block to be filled in as it was needed. Perhaps this might require more programming than what I'm capable of but I would think this would be possible. Thoughts, suggestions? Like the title of this post I'd like to know what software would be necesary to make a form fillable pdf, possibly also with autogenerating fields? I realize they're plenty of free pdf creation packages out there but I don't know if those will allow the little extras that I'm looking for. I want to make some monster stat cards and other similar things. I've seen several versions by other people but none of them quite encompass what I want. So if I can I figure I'll just make my own. In the table located on page 563 that gives the different modifiers to the DC to pinpoint an invisible creature with a Perception check. It states the modifier for the invisible creature to be a -40 if "Not moving". This confuses me, the rest of the modifiers get progressively larger from -5 to -20 for moving slowly to moving really fast. Shouldn't the modifier for effectively standing still be some sort of bonus? At the very least I should think it wouldn't hurt them more than charging or attacking someone. Okay, I've dm'd on and off for several years now and over that time I've come across several house rules that I've liked or that I've borrowed from other games. Here's a few I'd like the community to look over and tell me what they think of them and any suggestions for making them better or more streamlined. 1.Hit Points: Your characters will begin with maximum hit points at 1st level character creation. When rolling for HP upon gaining 2nd level, you may bump the die roll by 3 points up to the maximum possible result on that die. This procedure will continue at 3rd and 4th level lowering the adjustment by 1 point each time. Thus you would modify the die by 2 points at 3rd and 1 point at 4th. I will also be using whats called a Hit Point Kicker, an option I've borrowed from Hackmaster. Each creature and player receives bonus hp at creation based on their size. This helps promote character survival at those early fragile stages. Fine 0
2.Dice Penetration: Basically how this works is whenever a die is used to roll damage to hitpoints or healing of the same then if the maximum possible result is rolled you get to roll another die of the same size with a cumulative -1 modifier to the total damage dealt or healed. The -1 modifier therefore continues to accrue each time another die is rolled effectively capping the maximum possible so as to not make it too ridiculous. For example, suppose your basic fighter attacks with a greatsword and rolls his 2d6 for damage, say he rolls a 2 and a 6. He then rolls another d6-1 because he penetrated on the 6. If he rolls a six on the penetration dice then he rolls another d6 but now with a -2. 3.Armor Damage/Damage Reduction: I use a slightly modified rule from Hackmaster which allows a character's armor to absorb some of the damage from a hit that the character otherwise would have suffered. The armor takes this damage instead, requiring it to be repaired at some point. Armor will slowly lose a level of AC protection as it continues to take more damage, until the point where it becomes unusable and no longer provides any AC bonus at all. The amount of damage that a suit of armor will protect against will vary depending on material and quality but will always provide a DR of at least 1 until it reaches 0 armor points. This DR is subtracted from each die roll of damage that the character is effected by. This DR is also effective against spells as well (except for the force only spells that are able to hit incorporeal creatures with no miss chance). AC_____|___1_|___2_|___3_|___4_|___5_|___6_|___7_|___8_|___9_|
Modifiers for special materials
I have'nt quite got the hard/fast rules for what it will cost to repair the armor as of yet. My players usually find a wizard with a repair spell to do it for them. This works for now but if they have a capable wizard in there own party then it lessens the cost impact it's supposed to have on the characters. So I probably need to come up with something to remedy that situation. 4.Languages: Speak Language shall be considered a class skill for everyone. At character creation, the player may choose to learn a number of languages equal to there intelligence bonus from the list of bonus languages for their chosen race at no cost of skill points. This does not have to include the common trade language, but it is recommended. Any languages learned after character creation must be purchased with ranks in the Speak Language skill. The maximum number of languages a character can learn will be limited to twice their intelligence modifier, minimum of 1 unless they possess a very low intelligence score at which point they speak a very simple form of their native tongue. If they have an extremely low score then they most likely communicate through hand gestures and grunts. This is something I use just because it seems unreal for someone with a low intelligence to know as many languages as they feel like spending points in. For instance they have a hard time adding 2+2=4 but they can speak fluently in 12 different languages. Seems a little silly to me. 5.Reading/Writing: Characters do not automatically know how to read and write. If you wish to be able to read/write a language, you must spend skill points in Read/Write in order to do so. Also barbarians are restricted from learning to read or write during character creation, although they can learn the skill later if they so choose. Read/Write is a class skill for the following classes: Bard, Cleric, Monk, Paladin, Rogue, and Wizard. With Pathfinder's slightly different skill point system I'm not sure how to implement this now. 6.Criticals: For now I will be using the regular critical threat range and then roll to confirm. I will also however be using a roll to confirm for critical misses. The critical miss roll will involve any roll of a natural 1 normally. If your character has a negative modifier from dexterity this range will be increased by that amount. If an attack roll falls within that range, the player rolls again to confirm just like a critical hit, however if you miss the defenders armor class on the confirm roll than it will be a critical miss, if you hit the defenders armor class on the confirm roll it will simply be a regular miss. The actual roll to decide what critical effect of a miss will happen is made by me behind the screen. However I will list below what the die range and effects will be, subject to change as I strive to make it a better system. 1-5 = Hit your closest ally
7.Firing Into Melee: I seriously plan on revamping the rules for this as I really can't find a good explanation for what happens when people try this. I will also need to incorporate the effects of the couple feats that touch on this kind of thing so that it still works smoothly as the game progresses into higher levels. Essentially I feel there should be the chance of hitting any combatant of a melee when firing into one, as they tend to move around ducking and dodging their opponents swings. Nearly every game, I still get the crazy low level archer that wants to fire into melee when their own party members might take the arrow instead of their opponent. And currently the rules don't seem to frown on this at all. They just give you a -4 to hit and if you miss then you don't hit anything. Ok thats pretty much all of them. Tell me what you think, and hopefully you can give me some suggestions to help streamline them and make them better. Just recently discovered paizo's wonderful work and am looking for a steady game I might be able to join on the weekends, preferably on sunday as I usually have a 2nd ed or 3.5 game on saturday. I've printed off a copy of the beta release and had it spiral bound and I like what I see so far. I live in hiawatha on the north side of Cedar Rapids so I'm willing to drive to Iowa City as well or anywhere reasonably close, up to 45 minutes or so away. Not really interested in online or play by post. I'd much rather have the fun of sitting around a gaming table. I can also GM part time if necesary but I'd much rather play a character. |
