Backstory:

Thorjar was born in a remote area of northern Nirmathas. His father was a ranger who often helped the people of Nirmatha in their on-again off-again wars and skirmishes with Molthune. Being less martially inclined than his father, he took service with the god Erastil but the path of the cleric was not for him. Instead, he served by rooting out the more extreme elements of the communities along the Molthune border where overzealous ideas of independence made the community unsustainable (for example, by refusing to trade even with nearby and trusted communities). He travelled from village to village doing whatever he could to make sure that herdsman didn’t overgraze, farmers plowed the right type of land, and new settlers had access to water and good hunting. For over 60 years he did this and was, generally, welcomed by those he visited even if they did find him a bit stern and stuffy.

His greatest dream had been to travel to Deadeye’s Haunt and rededicate the shrine to Erastil but he never got the chance. A flare up in border skirmishes and fighting ended up destroying the last five small communities that Thorjar had visited. This shook him deeply and he took it as a sign that Erastil was somehow displeased with him; though he didn’t know why. He felt that perhaps he was meant to be elsewhere and so journeyed back to the north of the kingdom and spent a few years helping the villages and towns there but he began to feel uncomfortable there.

He decided to leave Nirmathas entirely and travelled north into Lastwall. He wandered around there a bit but still felt dissatisfied. Eventually, he went back south and skirted the borders of Belkzen and Nidal arriving in Varisia. He greatly enjoyed travelling Varisia as there were so many small settlements and things were so much more diverse than Nirmathas and Lastwall (though, admittedly, not all of it was good). After years of, more or less random, wandering he came upon Sandpoint.

Thorjar has been in Sandpoint less than a year and he can’t quite decide if he likes the place or not. The people have been polite enough but whenever he tries to make suggestions others suddenly find a need to be somewhere else. Certainly, the Szarni are a blight on the community but they seem firmly entrenched. He knows that a festival is coming up soon and he is looking forward to it; the town should show its true colors on that day.

Thorjar stands 4’ 3” tall and weighs 191 lbs. He is 92 years old though his grey hair and beard make him look over 100. His skin has a gnarled leathery quality of someone who spends most of their time outdoors.
