As Ra and Cerastes step up onto the platform there is a click and the doors by which you entered slam shut..at the same time Elictricity arcs between the piullars striking both of the explorers upon it. Electric arc 2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2 Cerastes Ref Save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 2 damage Ra Ref Save 1d20 ⇒ 17 1 damage Also the Sarcophagus shuddrs as if alive. the second doors are untrapped mundane and unlocked. You find yourself looking into a large chamber... The center of this large octagonal room is a raised square platform a few inches above the floor, with a stone pillar at each corner. A gold-trimmed sarcophagus sits in the center of the platform, flanked by two statues of humanoid beings with canine heads, each of which holds an ankh in one of its crossed arms. Stone double doors exit the room to the north and south.
Sorry my bad...the Scarab Shield detects as Magical None of the chests are trapped.. a few minutes work with daggers manages to cut through the wax and reveal the following. A sack with a 100 gp and 42 sp several scroll tubes holding papyrus records, private memos, expense ledgers, speeches, and private correspondence. Among the papers are discussions regarding the unfinished tomb of Akhentepi’s mistress. There is little else of interest in the papers, but to a collector or Osirionologist, these documents are worth 250 gp total if undamaged. The clay urn is also sealed with wax and contains nard, an expensive, oily perfume, worth 75 gp. As for the Shield.... Scarab Shield This +1 light steel shield is fashioned in the shape of a scarab beetle—a creature that functions as a psychopomp for Pharasma, guiding the souls of the departed into the afterlife. Scarab shields are especially favored by archaeologists and tomb raiders for the protection they grant against guardians and vermin frequently found in ancient ruins and forgotten tombs. Once per day on command, a scarab shield grants its wielder a +2 sacred bonus on saving throws against fear and death effects for 3 minutes. At any time while this bonus is in effect, the wielder can end the effect as a swift action for a burst of healing energy. The wielder loses the saving throw bonus, but is healed of 1d8+3 points of damage. In addition, a scarab shield can protect its wielder from swarms. If a mindless swarm attempts to enter the wielder’s space, the swarm must attempt a DC 11 Will save. If the save succeeds, the swarm can enter the wielder’s space and attack the wielder normally. If the save fails, the swarm instinctively avoids the space occupied by the wielder, completely ignoring the wielder for 3 rounds. This effect ends if the wielder makes any attacks, but the wielder may use non-attack spells or otherwise act without ending the effect. This ability functions once per day
Lori's pistol barks and she knocks splinters from the last toy as it advances.. Cerastes swing his hammer at it as it reaches the party 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13..A clean Miss The tiny soldier slams into Ra 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9..but fails to do anything before the Dwarf destroys it completely Combat over
A table displaying a three-dimensional diorama occupies much of the north side of this room. Three shields with different designs are displayed upon a rack against the east wall, while various weapons hang from another rack along the south wall. Arrayed around the room are five small chests and a clay urn. As Max steps into the chamber he spots movement from the diorama and sees to his amazement that three tiny Osirion soldiers are clambering down from the display. They bear spears and shields commensutate with their size but wear only loin cloths. The Halfling beats a hasty retreat.
The books are not Magical. You take the risk and lift them from the chest finding they each weigh about 25 lbs The first is a brief biography of Akhentepi, and the second is a list and description of the various military campaigns conducted by the nation of Osirion between 2350 and 2450 AR. Each book weighs 25 pounds and is worth 300 gp.
I did say the chest was unlocked Cerastes opens the chest and removes 3 potion bottles..however the remaining two items in the chest are both too heavy to be moved by Mage Hand. Closer inspection reveals them to be two books made of thin gold plates inscribed with Ancient Osiriani Heiroglyphs. You ID the potions as Cure Light Wounds(x2) and Darkvision.
Max does not spot any traps on the chest. He sets to work to pick the lock and as he does a small blade scythes out of the object and slices into his hand. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Max collapses bleeding badly. I believe he is on -3 HP The blade bears a sickly green tinge. Max Fort Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 but thankfully the halfling suffers no ill effects from whatever that is. The chest is however unlocked
No real time limit..but you might not want to be traversing the Necropolis after dark. The doors are Untrapped and open easily Again you discover a short stairway that leads to a second set of doors. You check these and they prove to be untrapped as well. Opening them you are met with a welcome sight. A brightly painted chariot sits in the center of this chamber. Beyond the chariot, a large canvas stretches between two stone columns. The skins of several animals—antelopes, great cats, and crocodiles—now faded and deteriorated with age, are tacked to this canvas. A wooden chest, lacquered white and trimmed with gold inlay, sits in the southeast corner. In each corner of the room a small stone shield is molded into the masonry at shoulder height. An open hallway leads to the east.
Cerastes lashes out at the first bug and damages it severely...The crature disengages as it's mate strikes at Ra again.. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10Miss. Ra returns the blow but his kopesh slices empty air..Lori's bullet passes through the same empty spot then Inferis lays the first bug low and Max puts a bolt into the second Damage to Bug 1 =14 Damage to bug 2 =6 Cerastes is up..
[url=https://www.flickr.com/photos/124438618@N03/14162602736/in/set-72157644198447900]Updated Map[/ooc] Lori's words echo in the stillness of the tomb and,as if to put a lie to her words two creatures looking like a cross between a scorpoin and a spider scuttle from behind the altar. Initiative..no surprise because you were on edge anyway. Cerastes 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Miss Lori 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 Max 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Inferis 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Ra-Khefer 1d20 ⇒ 6 Scorpion/Spider things 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 Cerastes then the creatures then everyone else.
There was a northern door..or is Max too scared now? The doors (which were ajar anyway) move easily and you find yourselves looking into a 20' x 30' room Pillars line the walls of this rectangular chamber, interspersed with stone jackal heads extending from the walls. A stone altar, covered in a layer of dust, sits at the eastern end of the room.
Lol people one strike was enough Cerastes moves swiftly for a big man and his hammer ends the beetles participation in this fight with one crushing blow that sends ichor spattering over the walls and floor. Ra looks vaugely disappointed as the beetle falls and no others appear. You take a moment to recover before inspecting the area and find it consists of nothing beyond a short hallway and a set off stairs that end aprubtly in a rough natural wall. To Ra's practiced eye it is obvious that this is an unfinished section of the tomb.
Inferis would need knowledge Nature. Max Spoiler:
A variant of the common Fire Beetle.. Inferis' Acid splash skitters off the wall down the corridor but Lori's shot cracks the carapace and the beetle seems badly injured. Round 1 Cerastes 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Miss Lori1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Max1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Inferis 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Dice off 1d6 ⇒ 6 Ra-Khefer 1d20 ⇒ 11 Beetles1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 Dice off 1d6 ⇒ 2 Everyone gets to go before the Vermin
Again the doors open at the slightest push.. A tapestry hangs from a frame against the south wall of this large chamber; it depicts an otherworldly vista where the souls of the dead, shepherded by strange beings, enter an ethereal river ambling through space toward a landscape dominated by an impossibly tall spire. Columns sculpted in the shape of Osirian warriors wielding khopeshes stand in all four corners of the room. The floor is tiled in a white spiral pattern on a black background, and this spiral pattern is repeated on the stone double doors to the north, east, and west. The room is 30' x 20' you are in the middle of the 30' east wall
Unfortunately being an elemental creature it is immune to criticals...something depressingly familiar to those of us in Legacy of Fire isn't it guys The strike certainly gets the beasts attention and it strikes back at Cerastes 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Cerastes is on 0HP and is staggered. Ra is up
Max
Spoiler:
It appears to be a sandling , a minor elemental creature native to the plane of Earth. It has the usual elemental traits and is most susceptible to bludgeoning weapons BTW I'm not putting up a map for this..you are in a 10' x 30' stairway.Ra and Cerastes are essentially on top of the Sandling with Max and Lori behind them and Inferis at the back.
As if in answer to Lori's question there is a sudden movement of the sand and something large strikes at the Dwarf as he turns away from the wall. This creature appears to be a large snake formed of earth and sand. A
Bite 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 Damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 and Ra-Khefer is grievously wounded Round 1 Cerastes1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Everyone but Ra can post their first round action
Sorry...Cerastes does not think that the brand can be healed by the magics he has available A flight of steps gradually descends to the west down this passage. Halfway down the stairs, small holes and burrowed tunnels riddle what remains of the passage’s southern wall. Earth and sand have spilled over the collapsed masonry, covering the stairs with dirt and rubble. Stone doors engraved with a golden scarab, its wings open beneath a golden sun block the far end of the stairs Up to date map coming soon Ra-Khefer thinks the walls are safe to pass
