Hi all I was just wondering if players where fans of rules light systems or more comprehensive rules systems?

Hello all just a quick question, how long in real time do you give players to move in combat ?
I ask because I've seen on a number of occasions players literally take 3/4 minutes to work out the route to avoid aoo's difficult terrain etc .
Now personally I find this a pain as I believe that combat should be fast paced and the characters would not have time to ponder there route , now I'm not saying they shouldn't have a little time (say a minute at most) .
How do you run it what's your normal way of handling it

Hi all probably a fairly silly question but how much do you trust the GM to be totally fair !
I know it often depends on the individual person but as a whole do you think they are a 100% honest.
I only ask as on a few other forums I've been on there seems to be a lot of mistrust as to how the GM will handle things not covered by the rules , and this then leads to a need for everything to be in the rules just in case
Your thoughts please

Hi all just read this on an old D&D forum and thought it was worth a read
To create a magic item, the spell caster must first gather rare materials from which the item will be made.

A scroll might require special parchment and a different formula of ink for each spell effect.

Weapons might require rare metals, powdered gems forged into the metal, or the blood or skins of creatures to be specially affected by the weapon.

These items should be difficult to obtain, and the spell caster will often have to adventure to acquire them, for there are no magic shops.
How much things have changed your thoughts please

What do you think is more important
Rules as written or
Rules as intended
Or maybe neither

Hi all just a quick rant but after I had been looking at few post I just have to say .
IS it me or have magic items just become another resource to be brought and sold as needed players and by default thair characters see them as no more than aids in making them machines that are mathematical more likely to smeg the next encounter.
So they can get more loot to take to ye olde magic mart and buy another gross of scrolls potions and other magical gear to fit in with there pre-planed character concept.
Where is the wonder gone and the excitement when players find a new item among a treasure trove, I'm not saying players should not be able to buy minor magic items in big citys , but when I see people comparing the price of things to find the most cost effective way of doing things then sorry in my mind your missing out on the point a bit magic items like staffs, wands and other items should be rare and wonderful.
Not just something to be crossed of as you use them like torches arrows and rations

Hi all I've just started running a campaign and I'm still unsure about the end boss.
I really want some kind of dragon but not sure what type , are there any dragons that have a affinity for gems above pure greed.
As the campaign revolves around a set of magical gem stones any thoughts

Hi all can anyone recommend a good syfy system that's easy to pick up and easy to get hold of.
Don't mind old or new but not setting specific like star wars
Thanks

Hi all sorry I've not been about for a while but life has got in the way of gaming (not that I'm complaining when the slice of life is my third son).
I was just wondering how meny house rules you use in your games ?
And is there a particular area of rules that seem to get house ruled the most .
And how much thought and debate goes into making these rules
And this is purely out or idol curiosity
Thanks all

Hi all quick question
If a creature has dr/10 magic is it effected by normal fire

Hi all just wondering what you think the name old school gaming means to you ?
Is it just a reference to how long someone's been gaming or do you think it describes a style of play.
Your thoughts please

Following on from another thread I posted just a quick question how afraid are your players of character death ?
I ask because it appears from these boards that most view it as a speed bump on the road of adventure rather than the cliff it should be

Hello everyone I just wondered how your players react to sudden character death ?
Are they ok with a bad dice roll wasting there character or do they kick of big time and birch no end about how it's unfair

Not sure if this is the right place for this but here goes
Played in my normal Thursday night game last night with one difference our two resident power gamers where both no shows as one had left his character because he knew in advance he wouldn't be there we played on with me npcing one of the missing characters .
The game was fairly normal except there was no whining about how they thought rules should work or constant page flicking to look up odd Feats or spells .
There was a good deal of laughing and fun being had as the rest of us got on with it and still survived the combats and other events of the game.
In fact we all had so much more fun we are seriously thinking of ditching the two other players as they are just bringing the rest of us down

This is a question that's been bothering me for a while now and was made more apperant after I was at a con where pfs run about 120+ games .
I spent a fair amount of time chatting to the refs and listening in on the games now everyone seemed to be having fun and getting into the games but I did notice that there was a lot of "one up manship" going on between players and what appeared to be an over riding concern with being the most powerful character at the table.
Now I have nothing against players wanting there character to do well but I've always played that the party doing well is more important

I've read on a number of posts that player's seem to have trouble trusting there D.M to be fair and consistent in his running of the game.
And I was just wondering how meny players do trust there D.M,s to play fair as I've only ever had one D.M that I didn't trust and I've been a player for 34 years.
Is this problem as widespread as it seems or is it just a vocal minority

Hello everyone a quick question for you all to think about are players becoming obsessed with extra rule books more classes Feats spells races
Would they still play without them ?
Ask yourself this question if you said to your players where starting a new game core rules only would they go ok and just get on with it or would they say can I use books xyz as well and not play if they couldn't

Hi all quick question can a 9th lvl summoner turn into an 8 limbed creature and get 7 attacks a round and kick out just under a 100 points of damage without doing crits ?

Hi all was just wondering if any of you have experience of playing "the one ring" game system and what you thought of it

Just a quick question what do you think makes some one a power game
As opposed to an optimizer

Hi all i'm starting a new campaign and im going to throw a big curve ball at the party.
The games going to start normal enough but very quickly the party is going to end up in the oldhollow world setting from basic D&D (with a few changes) the idea behind it is the characters will be in a totally diffrent enviroment the whole world is filled with monsters and cultures from anichent history but twisted as it has evoled very differently from there world.
Things like it is always noon and the sun is red not real sunlight there are floating islands miles over there heads and the lands between citys is truly wild
Your thoughts please
Ps forgive the poor spelling but my smart phones is not being to smart

Hi all when using the feat vital strike in a full attack do i have to use my first attack as it has my full attack bonus or can i use any attack
Also i assume i can use power attack at the same time also can i use vital strike with a ranged weapon

I know that there are clear rules for the cost of magic items but I've been thinking that items that would be in high demand like healing potions and wands of healing would demand a higher price as adventures have money to burn they could afford to pay more and merchants being merchants are going to try to pump the price a little
Your thoughts please

Quick question can fireball be used to burn away stinking cloud ?

There have been a lot of threads that talk about the inbalance in power levels between classes and just as meny try to sort a fair way to balance the scale.
I had a thought that may be a simple way to even things out , have the players advance in levels at different rates .
Much like in AD&D 1st ed where rouges level faster than fighters who in turn level quicker than mages i would say that fighters stay as the norm with rouges requireing say 20% less xp and magic user require about 20% more .
Now it would need a lot of playtesting to get the levels right but as a blanket statement i feel thats about right
Your thoughts please
But only after you have thought about it no knee jerking please

When you join a new group have you ever felt pressured to change your game to fit in with there style of play.
Just wondering

A quick question to you all are your characters heros in the game in the true sense of the word fighting evil because its the right thing to do risking life and limb to help the common folk
Or are they just a bunch of gold hunters who dont care about anything except profit

Hi all this may have been answered but a couldn't find anything so here goes
Can an incorporal undead use touch attacks against someone who has protection from evil cast on them ?
I know that normal undead who use natural attacks have no effect so what's the score

Hi all making a 7th lvl fighter for a game need a bit of help with feats what to be good with thrown weapons mainly spear and javelin any thoughts
Ps don't suggest other classes as im sticking to a fighter

Hi all just a quick question a character in our game has taken weapon training thrown group now do they get the plus one with a spear if they are using it as a melee weapon ?

How much do you trust your DM ?
On a few threads I've seen that a number of players seem to have trust issues with there DM's .
So i was thinking how common is this problem

Does anyone else think that there are just to meny spells these days ?
I mean there seems to he a spell for everything from flying to mind reading to being able to scratch your right knee with your left ear .
Your thoughts please

Hi all just a quick question does mage armour still count against a touch attack as its a force effect ?
I know that it effects incoporal attacks where normal armour doesn't

Hi all just need some advice on how to go about convincing a bunch of 2ed players to give pathfinder a try .
Any thoughts ?

Just a quick question are there any weapons that you think are over the top as reguards to damage or crit range/multiplyer

Just wondering if other players have had this problem as most builds I've seen for characters seem to be very similar to each other in there choice of feats magic etc
Anyone else found this problem?

Hi all in my experience I've found the players that are big on optimizing are often ( not always) some of the worse metagamers
Have others found this

Hi all i know the norm now is to points buy your stats but i still feel rolling stats is best
Why you ask !
Well for one it prevents players useing a dump stat as you can't lower stats to raise others it also gives you something random in character gen you basicly get to pick everything else so its kind of like " this is what nature gave you make the best of it "
It also reduces the ability of players to min max for the same reason
But mainly because it makes you adapt when you can't control every part of the character as sometimes you just dont get what you want
Your thoughts please and keep it friendly

With all the rouge hate thats going around i was just wondering why people think that rouges got shat on so badly by other classes

Hi all just started a new game with only three players a paliadin ,bard and fighter and was wonder what low powered magic items i could give them to boost them a little
Beyond potions and the like any thoughts

I'm sure that I'm bring dumb but if you roll one one a skill check is that always a fail even when your skill bonuses are more than the DC of the check

Hi all having just read a post where someone said that a member of there party had skills at +55 (ok he is 20th lvl) i was just wondering what is the highest skill bonus you've ever had in your games and what lvl white the characters
