Perception checks and initiative rolls, please. I already rolled for Mrs. Catherine.-1d20+3=6 perception, she acts on Effan's initiative.
Due to the skill and cooperation that is display by those with knowledge in maps, survival and geography the party has no trouble homing in on the location depicted on the map as the spot where the Eldest Tree is supposed to reside.

You travel on for most of the day with very little disturbing your travels. A dunlied seen in the distance, a small Saingrist's crawler(red and black monstrous centipede) moving to hide under a log as you pass, the bird and squirrels all trying to keep hidden at your passage.

Usually with magic item creation they say in the rules that there is a minimum of 1 day. I have never liked that for lower level scrolls so this is how I usually houserule that.
Also---I don't require the time spent to be in one lump sum, you could spend 30 minutes one day, an hour the next, and another 30 minutes the next day to make a 1st level scroll. Nice description! Is Spontaneous Rejuv gonna take different descriptive forms according to the spell sacrificed?
The night passes uneventfully after a relatively futile search for a vile and loathsome cricket who seems to want to supply the party with some up close lullaby music. Soon enough the sun is beginning to brighten the sky and it looks like it's gonna be a beautiful spring day.
Perception-DC18---
Spoiler:
About an hour into traveling you notice some deep, goat-like tracks. Anyone with Track can determine that something that walks upright made the tracks. The party gathers it's things and continues making it's way around the lake. The going is easy and the party manages to get around the lake and are preparing to head north/northwest into the forest to try to locate the Eldest Tree when the day runs out of light.
Spoiler:
You found a good spot to camp for the night near a pile of large stones and boulders a few hundred feet from the lake. Hozs Ferryman wrote: "I'll keep him long enough to get healthy again, maybe a week." If the wolf had done this to him, we could leave him for the wolf. But," Hozs kicks the corpse, "this aint no wolf." Hozs scrunches his face trying to see inside his head in the hopes of seeing some of the natures secrets stored in there. After a short while he nods as if in agreement with someone, "Wolves follows natures rules." You know you could just CLW him or something too. HEY SHINY!! Can you get to here from work?
Keegan finds a well-used but servicable longsword, A shortbow made of gnarled darkwood, 13 arrows, 2 silver arrows, a dagger with a dunlied antler handle, a relatively clean suit of studded leather armor and a belt pouch. Inside the pouch is 4 silver pieces and a single human tooth. Taking a quick look behind the tree Keegan also spots a rolled and tied bundle of tanned furs. There are 4 of them and they appear to be Darkwood Wolf hides.
Spoiler:
Darkwood Wolves are sometime hunted by using firefoot foxes for bait. The hides are worth roughly 10gp each. Jaden manages to pry the vise-like jaws of the corroded steel trap apart and Hozs extricates the animal gently from within it. Letting go, the trap snaps closed with a violent "CHINK", making everyone jump slightly at the force.
The fox seems to relax under Hozs' gentle ministrations, enough that he can tell that the trap is quite strong and that if the fox is removed and left untreated it will suffer and die in a couple days. The fox gives a soft whine and licks at Hozs' hand tentatively, it's eyes begging for help...

While remaining natural wood in almost every way, ironwood is as strong, heavy, and resistant to fire as steel. Spells that affect metal or iron do not function on ironwood. Spells that affect wood do affect ironwood, although ironwood does not burn. Using this spell with wood shape or a wood-related Craft check, you can fashion wooden items that function as steel items. Thus, wooden plate armor and wooden swords can be created that are as durable as their normal steel counterparts. These items are freely usable by druids. Further, if you make only half as much ironwood as the spell would normally allow, any weapon, shield, or suit of armor so created is treated as a magic item with a +1 enhancement bonus. Material Component: Wood shaped into the form of the intended ironwood object. Now if you meant Darkwood..... Darkwood: This rare magic wood is as hard as normal wood but very light. Any wooden or mostly wooden item (such as a bow, an arrow, or a spear) made from darkwood is considered a masterwork item and weighs only half as much as a normal wooden item of that type. Items not normally made of wood or only partially of wood (such as a battleaxe or a mace) either cannot be made from darkwood or do not gain any special benefit from being made of darkwood. The armor check penalty of a darkwood shield is lessened by 2 compared to an ordinary shield of its type. To determine the price of a darkwood item, use the original weight but add 10 gp per pound to the price of a masterwork version of that item. Darkwood has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 5. Effan finds the crow in a tangled heap, unconcious among the tall grass and leaves. He makes sure it will never awaken.
A whimper in the grass reminds the party that the fox is still in the jaws of the hunter's cruel trap.

Chirrip, Claw, return! Defend! and the 2 night-black birds cease their attacks and withdraw. As they fly Effan sees his chance when they get about 15 feet off the ground, and lets his spell release. The one that Raph had injured succumbs to the spell but the other flies on after veering slightly. 1d20+2=22, 1d20+2=6 The one the falls hits the ground, rolling to a stop just before the tree-line and doesn't move. The other returns to his master, prepared to defend him. The shooter, who can be seen to be a large grey-skinned hobgoblin, tries to climb higher into the tree, drawing a melee attack from Keegan's dagger. Keegan hits, (1d20+1=17 for 1d4+1=5 damage, 8 with skirmish)sticking the dagger into the Humanoid's calf and knocking him free from his perch. Keegan manages to sidestep the falling hobgoblin (reflex-1d20+4=21)without being struck by him, but the hobgoblin quickly jumps to his feet drawing a notched longsword. Jaden is up.

Jaden's shot veers low of the mark, the quarrel sinking into the tree trunk, just below the branch upon which the sniper is perched. Jaden and Keegan both spot a fox with large ears and bright orange fur, a Firefoot, ahead roughly 50 feet with its hindquarters caught fully in the jaws of an iron trap. If you think a knowledge check meets one of those criteria make the check and I'll let you know for sure. I'm pretty easy-going about stuff like that. The group stays low for a bit until the winged creature fades from view then continues on for a while....
Spoiler:
The yelp is from a doglike creature, most likely a Firefoot Fennec(fox) or a Darkmoon wolf-cub in distress or injured. The yelping seems to be coming from roughly one hundred feet ahead of you in the tall grasses. The going is easier out of the woods and the group makes some good time considering the smaller folks length of stride. The river widens into a lake perhaps 2 miles wide and twice that in length. The pristine water looks healthy and deep with an occasional ripple marring the glasslike surface as some aquatic creature moves just below the surface.
Spoiler:
The creature is a wyvern, cousin of the dragon. A foul tempered creature with a poisonous sting and huge appetite. Fortunately, the creature doesn't take notice of the group and flies across the lake and out of sight to the north. Travel up the logging trail is an easy affair. The way is punctuated with the ever increase noise of the Jacks taking down the forest giants. A few minutes into your walk you watch a litter being drug behind a stout mule. The Lumberjack holding his reins gives a polite but gruff nod as he passes while on the litter a man is strapped down, a bloody cloth and rough wooden splint bound around his leg. Seems one of the forest's giants didn't fall so easily.

Nah, the contract writing would make my head hurt. I like the workthrough that you wrote here though, thanks for rolling with me. I like the part I bolded above.....kinda ironic.:)Now, let's get in the woods and kill stuff! ;P On the edge of the camp is a wide trail cut into the wood, leading generally in the direction you will need to be heading. The ground is packed firm from the sleds laden with logs that have passed over it, and ahead, down the trail, you hear the constant sound of axes chopping and saws slicing into wood with the occasional rapid-fire snapping of tree branches immediately followed by the sound of one of the forest's giant trees slamming into the ground. Alright fellas, what is the plan for travel after consulting Keegan's map? I'll be needing a marching order unless you all want to just sort of hang together, and I will need to know the nighttime watches. Keegan's Map
