Greetings, fellow warrior of the shadows. This is a character I made for a Thieves Guild game. He sports an impressive +26 Stealth at level 3, though I did get a +1 trait bonus and Skill Focus for free from the game, but that should just equal the +4 racial modifier you get.

I submit this character to you to help with the flavor part of your question. I had a lot of fun writing his backstory and I hope you enjoy reading it.

Now, goblin rogues also get a delicious Favored Class bonus to Stealth. You can UMD a wand of reduce person for an extra +5 Stealth (+1 Dex, +4 Size).

The cloak of elvenkind item grants a very nice +5 bonus to Stealth for only 2500 gp.

Take Skill Focus and Stealthy for an extra +5 Stealth (+10 after level 9)

The feat Hellcat Stealth might also interest you.

I'm sorry for the wait guys, but unfortunately it's been over two weeks and I still haven't replaced my computer yet. So rather than ask you all to wait on me, I shall simply step aside with my apologies. I'm relieved that Sweet gets a chance to play and now with me officially gone the group remains at six.

Hope everyone has fun!

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

My laptop power cable has been irreparably damaged. I have a new computer on the way. It should arrive sometime next week, around the 13th of July. Until then, I will simply not be able to log on. I apologize for the inconvenience.

As the smoke clears and the Darkstalker realizes that he has been teleported away, he arches an eyebrow. "Five gold says that he could have done that with a wave of his hand, and he just made the globe for dramatic effect. Ah well, if I was all-powerful, I'd like to show it off a lot too. Well, then, shall we get started?"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

"Right then. You heard the boss. Let's get going, lady and gent." The Darkstalker turns his hood towards Tabby. "Stay alive, Tabby. I'd like to talk to you some more, after I get back." He waves to the rest of the group and walks up next to Ragar, looking rather silly as a small stout child standing next to a tall, thick brute.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker raises an eyebrow in confusion and looks at Tabby. "Oh! I guess that 'Kyrani' is you, huh? Well, then that earlier comment makes a lot more sense. Oh well. Personally, I think Tabby suits you better."

He turns to Natalia with a deadly glare. "I do not have a name. If you must refer to me, my title is 'The Darkstalker', it is not 'Darkie'. And as for diplomacy, well, that's really not my department. But I'll pitch in and see what I can do to help."

awesome, everyone has posted! Sorry, getting excited to start our domination of the underworld

Me too! I can't wait to go in and fight our first target. Pretty much half the group has Sneak Attack, so we're going to rend them all apart!

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker nods. "Alright then. I don't mind being bound to these guys. I'll just sit back and let Ragar handle all the dirty work while I make off with the loot we need."

The Darkstalker takes his knife and pockets it, thinking aloud to it "Do you have a name?"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker bows. "But of course, Master Yasushi. I have no intention of breaking your laws. My sole interest lies in the destruction of the despicable hierarchy in Westcrown, and removing the Council of Thieves would accomplish just that. So I'm quite willing to aid and abet you and accept your aid in return, even for a lifetime after that task is complete."

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

And mine is Stealth. Just clarifying that for you.

is it a long distance romance taken to new heights?

Madam, you wound me! I'll have you know that not all of the Darkstalker's weapons are finessable. Some of them are at least two-handed!

For Tabby:

Spoiler:

The Darkstalker looks up at her and takes her hand, squeezing it, and nods. "I appreciate your loyalty, Tabby. And I will return it. I'm no cutthroat or two-faced rogue. I'm a man who takes friendship and loyalty seriously, and I will not abandon or betray my comrades. If you ever need me, I'll be there."

Walking up to the balcony, keeping Tabby's hand in his, the shrouded man looks over the black city. "I've always felt more at home under the cover of darkness. This might be pushing it a bit though. Still, I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Do you have a residence set up for me already, or do I have to go apartment hunting. Is there a Shadow Planes realtor I can speak with? Because I want a place with a view, damnit. I want to be able to open my window and see the breathtaking black abyss clearly. No dark shadow skyscrapers getting in the way, see?"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker raises an eyebrow. "Who the f*** is 'Kyrani'?" he manages to inquire before the woman waves her hand and suddenly the Darkstalker's inebriation snaps away. He straightens up and blinks. "Wow. That's some trick you've got there."

Cracking his knuckles, there is a flash of light beneath the Darkstalker's hood, a reflection from a very toothy grin. "The most paramount thief in all Absalom, huh? Looks like you did your research after all. Well then, madam, if I'm 'on your time', then by all means, give me my assignment."

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker blinks. "Well, if that's the case, then tell me where my room is so I can go sleep this off!" He throws his hands up in frustration, as if to say "Seriously? Come on, work with me here people!"

A Staff of Stealth will allow you to cast invisibilty and greater invisibility, but its 18400GP

I'm an arcane trickster. I'm going wizard 3 right now, and then I'll be going into the prestige class, so I'll have plenty of spell slots reserved for invisibility and greater invisibility.

And yeah, sorry Ragar. I shouldn't be trying to break the game. +26 at level 3 is already pretty impressive (though I did burn two feats on being that impressive).

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

I need to find a way to take a level of Eidolon so I can get that delicious +8 racial bonus to a single skill of my choice...Also if I could find some way of getting extra skill ranks so I can bump up Stealthy and Skill Focus faster...argh! +26 at level 3 is not enough! I must be as invisible as invisible without actually casting it! (And then stacking with it).

Anyone got any suggestions for how I can get my Stealth bonus up to +40?

Lady Natalia wrote:
that's a +26 now right?

Yes it is.

I had forgotten this.

Under my character creation rules, I had listed several skills that one could choose as a bonus class skill. I realize a few of you probably already have all of the ones listed as class skills. Therefore, if you are of a class that grants them all thusly, you may instead gain a +1 bonus to one of those skills.

As a rogue, I did indeed have every skill you listed as a class skill. I'm glad to see you decided to change your mind. Another +1 to Stealth for me!

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker sighs and shrugs. "In the spirit of teamwork, I will oblige, but I must tell you all that I am not nearly as skilled a thief after a drink..."

Pocketing the dagger, The Darkstalker smirks and thinks to it "As long as you don't ask me what my name is, you and I will get along quite well..."

Alcohol is a poison, if I remember correctly. Inflicts a temporary Wisdom penalty, or something. Though that may just be in 3.5. Regardless, I love the rules for alcohol, so I'll go ahead and roll a saving throw, and the DM can rule what happens to The Darkstalker based on his own secret stuff.

Fortitude save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker laughs. "That's certainly not all I wish to do. More importantly, I want to be well-rested and ready for tomorrow, when I start working for you. Plus, whiskey always makes me a little sleepy, you know. Speaking of which, that was a damned good drink you poured me. I'll take a bottle of that for my room, if you have one." He speaks to the drow specifically.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

I saw Voice of Awesomeness's new race and class header and I laughed out loud. Good show, man.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

I'm willing to foot the bill in this case.

"Well, hold on a moment, Tabby. Our first target? It's really late and we're all bleeding. Well, most of us are, anyway. More importantly, I count just one of our number that is able to see in the dark. I believe there are three much more pressing questions at hand."

Turning to the leaders, The Darkstalker bows politely. "Not to be rude, but I function much better after a good night's rest. So I have just three questions for you. Do you have rooms for us to sleep in here? If so, where is my room, and how far is it away from hers?" He glances at Tabby with a lustful spark in his eye.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker looks down at his knife, then seems to peer towards a non-specific location, like he is looking at someone or something that no one else can see. "To any impressionable young people out there, self-mutilation is wrong and you should never do it for the purposes of attempting to feel more in control or because you need the pain in order to make you feel alive. That said, self-mutilation for the purpose of awesome magical gains is perfectly acceptable, as long as it's not on your sexy face."

The Darkstalker then takes the dagger under his cloak. There is the sound of a rip, followed by a sharp hiss of pain. The Darkstalker pulls the knife back out. It is dripping in blood. "Absalom will fall, and Westcrown soon after. All will belong to the Blood Knives!"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker narrows his eyes. "The Council of Thieves is the most prominent thieves guild in the entire plane of Golarion. Taking them down, which would be our eventual goal in Westcrown, would send a strong message to the rest of the world, and secure us at the top of the known guilds. It saves us a whole lot of trouble, and then we can start working on the unseen black markets."

Turning to Lady Natalia, The Darkstalker extends his hand. "Unless the lovely human girl has a better idea?"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker looks back at Tabby and then shakes his head, grinning. "That woman is pushy. I'd probably be a little more worried about her if she wasn't so damn beautiful. As it stands now, it might not be too bad to indulge her a little."

He turns back to the Blood Knives. "Westcrown is a good place to start with your ambitions. That city is full of criminals and dirty cops. We can go there and weed out some of the small fry for you, and see if we can get some information on any larger-scale groups in the region?"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker raises an eyebrow and puts his hands up. "Whoa whoa whoa! I don't know what you've heard about me, but violence isn't my thing. I'm a thief, I'm not a gangster or an assassin or anything. If you're looking to start a war with other thieves guilds, I'm flattered, but there are better men for the job than me."

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

Not a problem. I'll wait patiently.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker looks down at his chest, then carefully reaches down and pulls the knife out, examining first his chest, and then it. "Well, that's interesting," he mutters, before slipping the knife inside his coat.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The man who introduced himself as The Darkstalker nearly spits out his drink in surprise when the spindly old dark elf steps between a brawling half-orc and a stubborn dwarf and flat-out ends the fight. This kind of strength from so small a creature was unheard of. The Darkstalker had a gut feeling that magic was to blame, but he wasn't particularly skilled with magic just yet, so all he could do was sit in awe.

The Darkstalker stands up, taking a step towards Tabby, and looks her in the eye.

If Tabby does not attempt to stop The Darkstalker from touching her:

Spoiler:

The Darkstalker wraps one arm around Tabby's waist and yanks her towards him. He whispers as close to her ear as he can get, "How about I buy you a celebratory drink and we take it upstairs to my room for now? Just until things calm down here?"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

As soon as the hooded man realizes Tabby is coming towards him, he rests one hand protectively over his drink. She looks at him expectantly, and he sighs with exasperation. "Well, good for you," he says honestly, nodding at her dagger. "Appears your bold nature is impressing someone. Doesn't sound good for me then, though. I make a habit of not standing out."

"She sure is touchy-feely. I'd better make sure I have all my coins later..."

"You can call me The Darkstalker," he offers, turning his head to look at her. From beneath his hood, Tabby can only see two gleaming blue eyes, both of them centered on her. "If I get accepted, I'm looking forward to working with you."

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The Darkstalker blinks in genuine surprise when she kisses him and smirks as she walks off. "Damn, that kitten has claws. I'd better watch out for her." Glancing at the bartender, the Darkstalker rolls his eyes and slides another handful of coins across the counter. The bartender apologetically refills his drink.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

My apologies, everyone, but for the next day and a half, I will be at my college's Freshmen Orientation. Expect normal posting to resume on Friday afternoon at around 3 PM Central Time.

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The man under the hood makes no movement to stop her as she takes a sip, though the drink she has picked up is a very strong whiskey, straight up, and likely tastes awful to her unless she has already developed a taste for whiskey.

"Tabby, huh? I'll remember that," the man replies. Once again, it's as if he hasn't spoken at all, and the wind is carrying his voice to her.

When she indicates her desire to mark one of the players, the man chuckles a bit. "Were you not paying attention? We are all here because of our skills, but more than that. I'm willing to bet everyone in this room is a thief or a brute, and the personality that goes along with that is greedy, selfish, and cruel. If they catch you, they'll end you. It's not worth the risk, in my opinion."

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

A casual glance towards the table where the lone cloaked figure was supposedly sitting at reveals that he has, in fact, gone. Suddenly, a seat at the bar appears occupied by the mysterious person. The seat was previously empty, and is flanked by a seat occupied by a female half-elf.

The man does not speak, but he slips a few coins across the bar to the tender, who looks at him curiously, before pouring a drink that he didn't ask for, and setting it down in front of him. The man takes a drink and then peers out of his hood at the woman next to him.

"So, you're also being scouted for this little troop, huh?" he says in a quiet voice that almost sounds like it might be coming out of the wind. The voice drifts into the woman's ear. "To be honest, I had no idea I was being followed. That's precisely why I'm here. If these men were able to find me and stalk me without my knowledge so easily, then clearly they have resources and skills I can use to my advantage."

Looking up at the ceiling, then down at his drink, the man continues. "Do you have a name?"

Male Halfling Rogue (Sniper) 3

The door to the tavern opens for only the briefest of moments before it shuts. To the untrained eye, it would seem that it was merely the wind blowing rather hard before relenting, but to those who knew, they might be able to spot the short, cloaked figure who had subtly made his way into the room.

The figure sits alone at a table, not ordering a drink, not looking at anyone, not speaking to anyone. After a few moments, it's almost hard to even remember he's there, he's so quiet and still and non-descript.

Happy to be picked, and looking forward to seeing the rest of the players.

Congratulations to both Kyrani and Lady Natalia.

I do have a question, though. Alezzandro, what book is the Dread class in? I'm interested in reading it.

I'm fine with mature content, though The Darkstalker is not interested in anything like that. He's a thief, pure and simple, and though he does occasionally take someone's life, it's usually in self-defense or because they greatly offended him. Stealing is his main goal.

@Darkstalker

Not that I question you, but can I get a full break down of your bonus to Stealth?

But of course! Here you are:

3 (Ranks)
3 (Class Skill Bonus)
4 (Size)
4 (Dexterity)
3 (Skill Focus (Stealth))
2 (Stealthy)
5 (Cloak of Elvenkind)
1 (Slippery Trait)

25. Skill Focus (Stealth) is my bonus non-combat feat, and Stealthy is my 3rd level feat. I spent 2,500 of my starting gold on a cloak of elvenkind, and The Darkstalker is a halfling, which explains the Size bonus.

Is this acceptable?

Questions-

1. What can you bring to the group?
Stealth. I understand that everyone else has ranks in it, but The Darkstalker is more than likely the stealthiest among the entire group, with a whopping +25 to the skill at level 3. The Darkstalker is also currently studying arcane magic and plans to gain access to his first spells soon (next level). The Darkstalker has a good understanding of the mystic (Knowledge (Arcana)), which is always useful to have as a thief. The Darkstalker is a master of disguise, and his small stature allows him to disguise himself as many non-threatening things, such as an older gnome or a weak halfling slave. The Darkstalker has skill with ranged weapons and can deliver harsh blows from further away.

2. You're able to survive and thrive quite nicely, where do you see yourself two years from the start of the game? In other words, what personal goals, outside of the anything to do with the Blood Knives, would you like to accomplish??
Personal goals, huh? The Darkstalker would eventually like to set up a church dedicated to thievery and the "ideals" of it, including redistribution of wealth, self-interest and self-preservation above all, and the idea that every possession a person has in the world is only theirs as long as its not yours. If he is successful, the Darkstalker would use charities to the church for tax breaks and recruit younger people into the Blood Knives.

3. You're caught in the act. How do you get away? The Darkstalker always keeps a fresh stock of potions of invisibility on his person. If he's caught, he vanishes from sight. If drinking the potion is not an option, The Darkstalker will cease and desist, and wait until he is being led away in chains. Then he will break free of the chains (Escape Artist +12) and run away. If that doesn't seem likely (generally because there are three or more guards present) the Darkstalker will attempt a bribe or Bluff his way out of it if possible, but his preference is always simply to vanish and flee.

Fluff is up. Let me know if you have any questions about my character, Voice of Awesomeness.

Crunch is up for NeoSeraphi's submission. Fluff to be up soon.

Ouch, so the Cross-Blooded Sorcerer actually delays casting another level, so I won't even get 2nd level sorcerer spells until 5th level (2 whole levels after the wizard, and same for all my other sorcerer casting. So harsh!)

Anyway, I have all of Hamon's crunch done here. I will update his alias so the info is there, but I figured I'd let you get a chance to look it over.

Edit: Okay, everything is up in the alias. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hamon is 147 years old. (Middle Age)
