Carlotta and her partner both back up but the thing focuses on the woman first, scarcely giving Kenny a second look once it moves to attack. It lifts its knife high and rushes towards Carlotta.

Carlotta gets to swing her knife down at it. Its AC is 12 so you can describe the results accordingly yourself.

I forgot about the channel energy above.

Chloe calls upon higher powers and channels positive energy through her holy symbol, controlling it tightly as it tries to burst forth so that only her friends are touched.

Each of them feels just a little stronger.

Kobold attacks Rall: (1d20+3=13)

The kobold, sensing a potential turn in the battle, becomes just a little more cautious and that caution serves him poorly, for his attack comes short this time of opening up Rall's belly.

Back to Arla and Ash and then everyone else.

Bowen manages to take advantage of the kobold's shock at being cut on the lip and connects with both of his weapons. The kobold is still standing though.

Rall is hurt but a last minute twist keeps him from being cut in half by the small axe. In return he manages to clip the kobold up across the snout with the very tip of his sword.

The kobold deftly defends from all sides with his axe.

His expression is hard to read, but one gets the feeling he is quite competent with his axe and knows it. He does not waste time with words, focusing instead on moving and dodging and slashing.

The positive energy would stabilize Rall if he is unconscious. He can also use his hero point and remain at 1 hp. His choice.

Arla and Ash are up and then the next round.

And on checking - that damage is enough to drop Rall isn't it?

Spoiler:
Over on ENworld, I advised a few people that this module is not the best for introducing kids to the game. You want new players to feel like they are doing well. I think I aptly named the campaign. You guys have this feeling of constant deperation about you as you try to overcome the various challenges. o.O

Rall's attack is thwarted by the kobold's armor. Meanwhile the kobold drops his crossbow onto the ground and draws a handaxe which he swings viciously towards the deputy.

Reflex Save: (1d20+6=17)
Axe Attack at Rall: (1d20+4=24)
Confirm threat: (1d20+4=24)
Damage: (1d3+1d3=4) (+2x2=+4 for favored enemy)

The kobold keeps his footing and the blow is well placed. Rall takes 8 points of damage.

This is one lucky or talented kobold.

Poison damage: (1d2=2)

Meanwhile Rall continues to feel sicker and weaker. (Another -2 to strength; One more round of saves and thats as bad as the poison will get.)

"Mother will punish me if I don't share," says the creature with a cackle and it draws a wicked looking knife from a crudely crafted boot and enters into the room.

Good try but your guess is off just enough to make it a failed bluff. Initiatives if you please.

I think we are waiting on Rall. Sorry for light posting the last few days. Should be better this week.

No sanity loss for either of you...

The head that sticks itself through the doorway is rather large. Small beady red eyes, and a round button nose might be cute, but they are atop a huge mouth that seems to split apart the entire skull. Large, pointed mobile ears jut out from the side of the creatures, head. It has thin, wispy grey hair and yellowed skin.

"Tasty, tasty..." says the thing, its english accented strangely, revealing that its large mouth is full of very sharp teeth. Whether it is a badly deformed child or some monstrosity from a bad movie is hard to determine. What is clear is that it appears to be eyeing Kenny and Carlotta as if they were food.

Heh. That's right, blame it on the poor dog.

Bowen's axe misses the kobold.

Invisible castle is not coming up so I used D20SRD.org. Hopefully, the link works.

Check 2

Link comes up blank. Any other good rollers around?

If you have to just roll without posting I'll trust you.

Lower is better in a sanity roll - so your 16 means you make it. Now to see what Kenny does.

Bowen has about 3 hps left I believe. You guys don't forget your hero points and action points if you need them. What is Arla going to do?

A rather large head pokes itself through the door, but at knee height on the reporters...

Sanity Checks before the full description...

Rall loses another point of strength. He'll need to make another save on his next action.

The sound of soft padding feet comes from the hallway. It sounds like someone in bare feet is approaching the slightly open doorway.

"Grak ki," says a rough voice softly. It sounds like a query.

"Koki grak ki."

The voice is getting closer to the doorway. Something about it is off though, not quite right and the very sound of the voice sends shivers down the spines of the two reporters. The monkey chitters anxiously from behind Carlotta's leg.

The room description:

The Chronicler wrote:

A chandilier in the middle of the large room springs to life, temporarily blinding both reporters. The room is a large square room, painted in black. There is a black carpet on the floor and various statues sit on pedastals around the wall.

A black carpet has a large yellow symbol woven into it in the middle of the room (mythos check) and there are strange matted spots here and there in the carpet.

On the other side of the room is a black wooden door.

Hope that helps :)

Arla, Chloe and Rall all surround the toad and as it manages to shake off Ash, they pierce it through, their combined attacks ending its life.

Bowen stands up just as the kobold raises his crossbow and once more fires - this time at the ranger, standing lone and slime covered.

Crossbow at Bowen: (1d20+7=27)
Confirm threat: (1d20+7=26)
Damage: (2d8+2=15)

Bowen, caught off guard can do nothing and then there is a crossbow bolt in him.

Rall needs to make another fortitude save. We are back to Arla and Ash and then the new round.

Is there a bed somewhere?

As Carlotta snaps pictures of the room, Kenny is semi distracted by the journal he can't read.

Finally Carlotta finishes with her pictures, only to realize that the monkey is growing agitated, looking at the semi-open door out into the hall. Carlotta has a sneaking suspicion that there is someone or something coming towards the door.

Arla and ash are up but you can post your intended actions if you want.

As Bowen lands on his rear and Rall slices at the air, Chloe's weapon finds its target.

Slurk turns on Chloe: (1d20+4=7)

The kobold moves gingerly back from the party and then works to reload his crossbow.

The toad thing twists and bites at Clover but its massive teeth fail to connect.

Bowen Quaid wrote:
Are we updating?

Update as is convenient to you. I plan on simply trying to incorporate things as we go.

DC to move without slipping in the room is DC 12.

The Slurk Kennel - Round 2
Clover: Initiative - 14
Bowen: Initiative - 13
Rall: Initiative - 12 (Poisoned; -2 hp)
Kobold: Initiative - 8
Slurk: Initiative - 7 (-4 hp)
Arla: Initiative - 6

Bowen's axe brings the mounted toad to a quivering hop even as the bolt fires at Rall.

Ride check: (1d20+9=27)
With some skill the kobold keeps his dying mount from flipping atop him.

Poison (DC 14)(strength): (1d2=1)
Rall loses 1 strength.

Ash manages to sink his teeth into the throat of the other toad thing.

Just need to know what Kenny wants to be doing while pictures are being snapped.

As the camera clicks and flashes the monkey scampers around nervously, smelling the damp, sticky spots on the carpet and grimacing.

Arla can act.

Bowen strikes the toad creature. The other one leaps from the wall, charging at the Ranger.

Charging Bowen: (1d20+4+2=20)
Damage: (1d6+2=4)

The dead kobold on its back flops one arm even as the huge fangs knock into Bowen. As the other creature provides an opening, the kobold barks an order to his own mount.

Ride check: (1d20+9=18)

His mount leaps backwards, away from the fight (Bowen, Chloe and Rall can each make AoOs on the toad mount).

Crossbow bolt at Rall: (1d20+7=15)
Damage: (1d8+1=2)

The kobold as he is carried away from the others unleashes a bolt from his crossbow at Rall. The bolt wound is but a scratch but it feels painful and it is poisoned (Rall needs to make a fortitude save_)

The room beyond is unlit. There is a light switch that Kenny can see near the door. The floor feels carpeted but it reflects no light. Neither do the walls. Its like everything is a dull black color in the room. Any details are almost impossible to make out using the phone-light. Nothing rushes to attack Kenny and the monkey does not run away, though it remains behind Carlotta.

The reporters back away from the door after placing the cell phone on the ground. The monkey scoots forward and touches the phone and then backs behind Carlotta.

Nothing happens. And still nothing and just as both are thinking its been too long and it should have already gone off, it finally does.

The phone rings, echoing in the hallway.

Nothing comes out of the doorway. But it seems very unlikely that if there was anyone else down here they don't hear it ringing.

It continues to make its noise.

The only light in the tunnel is the light of Bowen's axe.

The rocky tunnel curves quickly towards the west and northwest. The unworked walls of the cave tunnel are slick from water which trickles down through small cracks in the ceiling and some of the stalagtites and stalagmites near the sides of the tunnel form some interesting and fantastic shapes.

As the tunnel continues, a curious odor begins to be noticeable. It is reminescent of the slimy toad like creatures the kobolds were riding.

Just as the odor becomes particularly obious, the tunnel opens into a larger cave chamber. The floor and the walls here are covered in slime in various stages of dryness. A slim, tallish (for a kobold) kobold in black leather armor stands next to one of the toad things, grooming it with a sponge. Another of the long-fanged toads is sitting sideways on one of the walls on the other side of the room, a dead kobold grotesquely stuck to its back.

The kobold, alerted by the coming light, yells in anger when he sees the party and leaps onto his toad's back, unslinging a crossbow from his back.

Initiative: (1d20+2=8)

If you beat an 8 for initiative, go ahead and post your action. Assume the room is under the effects of a permanent grease spell in regards to the slipperiness of the floor.

The monkey sniffs inside the door as Kenny begins opening it and with a shriek of fear he ducks behind Carlotta's legs.

It is dark inside the room, there are no lights. But despite not being able to see in the room, or maybe because of it, the small hairs on the back of both reporters necks raise and a chill creeps down their spines.

There is a slight copperish smell in the cool air that comes out from the cracked door. It is reminescent of the smell in the slaughter room, though not as strong.

Going from the room with its dim night light back into the hall makes the hallways seem darker than ever.

The monkey follows cautiously behind Carlotta, obviously scared.

Just about five feet further, there is another door, this one on the left. This particular door is a carved with strange faces in the wood that seem to grimace and wink in the dim lights of the cellphone. The two reporters are made very uneasy by this door, though it might just be the leering carved faces.

The hallway continues past the door, well into the darkness.

Besides his pick, the kobold has a well balanced heavy pick (masterwork), good quality studded leather armor and a shiny miner's helmet. All of it is too small for Bowen.

The Journal is a confusing jumble of strange letters, non of it making any sense to Kenny.

The journal is written in some oriental script. It does appear to be a diary, at least there are arabic numbers above each entry that would appear to be dates. Spot/Perception check for Kenny?

Most of the dead and dying kobolds were carrying tools with which to dig. Bowen would guess they were miners of some sort.

There are two exits on the eastern side of this rocky, cavernous chamber. The first is a tunnel going south. The second is a tunnel going north. The kobold reinforcements came through the north-east passage. Both the northern and southern cave tunnels curve back to the west so that it is impossible to see much further then fifteen or twenty feet down them.

Bowen dispatches the fleeing kobold before it can take two steps.

Bowen manages to stab one of the kobolds with his shortsword, sending the little scaly creature to the ground.

The remaining Kobold, sensing he is suddenly without support, cries out, "Marcy! Marcy!" and then promptly turns to run back the way he came.

Free attacks from everyone as he runs away if you so choose.

There is a pile of papers in the desk, held down by a curious stone paperweight. There is also a pot of ink, a quill pen and a small journal-like book.

The paperweight, even just glimpsed, makes Kenny feel uneasy. It looks to be just a lump of twisted, black and grey rock, but there is a hint of... something about the way it looks to be almost writhing that makes Kenny loathe to touch it. For a moment Kenny sees a ship being pulled under the water by a great amorphous tentacled blob and then the memory is gone.

A nearby dog barks again.

Ash brings down one of the kobolds.

Assume there is plenty of room in the chamber to manuever.

Rall and Arla both miss as they begin to surround the two remaining kobolds.

As you can - life is more important. :)

In the room Kenny and Carlotta see that there are books on the shelves. The desk is the second object of possible interest, though the rolltop is down and it is impossible to see what exactly is hiding under the cover. Finally, looking a little more closely around the room, various small items, statues and figurines, are interspersed around and between the books. The light is too dim to make out titles or very many details. There is a light switch on the wall.

The monkey, as the other two look around moves over to the slightly opened door and peeks in, "Ooooeee..."

He is answered by a screech that sounds like another monkey, which is followed by a bark and a growl and the clucking of what sounds like a chicken.

Arla spent the previous round getting up from the ground.

Kobold Miners - Round 4
Arla - Initiative: 8
Ash - Initiative: 8
Bowen - Initiative: 4
Chloe - Initiative: 4
Rall - Initiative: 3
Kobolds - Initiative: 3

Kobolds attack Chloe: (1d20+1=3, 1d20+1=4, 1d20+1=16)

The three kobolds continue to try and swarm over Chloe as she defends the entrance to the room, but she successfully defends against their weapons and only one of the three even comes close to striking her.

As Kenny draws near to the other door, the monkey follows cautiously behind him.

There is a screech from the other side of the door which is responded to by a loud caw and then a bark and another screech.

It sounds like several animals are on the other side of the door.
