Tham calls down to the folk, to see how responsive they are.
"If anyone needs any water, I've got some for you," Tham says, and tries to toss his waterskins down to any of the people in the pit that might be paying attention.
"Of course, this is one time I didn't bring a rope. Did anyone else think to bring one? Mask's shadowparts, but this has been a long night."
Tham moves into a position where he can hit two zombies at the same time. If he needs to take an AoO he will, but not if he has to do something too difficult, like tumbling through their own spaces.
Once in place, Tham will use Steel Wind as a standard action and make an attack on both of them.
If Tham can move next to two zombies with a five foot step, he will, although he won't have his concealment this round. If not, Tham will move, and have concealment from his stance.
"Death things. Sad that they didn't stay that way, especially now that their breathing friends are gone."
Tham holds out his weapons, dives towards the zombies, gathers his shadows, and stabs out with both of his weapons.
For the GM:
Spoiler:
If I can't use Steel Wind, just ignore the second attack.
Pata attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Pata damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Dagger attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Dagger damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Well . . . that doesn't look too promising . . . ;)
Tham drives towards the woman threatening Moonpate, his shadows swirling in agitation once again and swirling around him like an umbral cocoon.
"I'd never strike a lady, but you, ma'am, are no lady."
Tham winces at his own joke, realizing the joke is older than Imaskar. He then punches out with his pata towards the woman.
Tham moves to reach his target, which activates his Child of Shadows stance, and after taking his move action, makes his standard action, an attack with his pata at his new target.
Tham shakes his head as he falls into the meditative technique needed for his next attack.
"I've worshiped a trifold god of the dead before, but mine was called ale, mead, and cheap wine. I converted from his worship shortly after I left an offering in the chamberpot the next morning."
Tham's pata is shrouded in shadows, and the blade turns an impenetrable black as he punches it towards his prey.
Tham uses clinging shadow strike as a standard action to attack the priest.
For the DM:
Spoiler:
Attack roll: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15*
Damage roll: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 4) + 3 = 8
*17 if Tham is still getting a flanking bonus
If Tham hits, the priest has to make a DC 13 Fortitude save, and if he fails he suffers a 20% miss chance from the clinging shadows from the attack for one round.
Also, from where I'm at, can I reach another opponent, or can I reach another opponent if I take a five foot step. If I can put myself in range to be adjacent to both opponents, I'll take a five foot step into that position after my attack.
Tham spins around his opponent, hoping to keep his shadowy concealment in effect.
Acrobatics Check d20 = 5 + 7 = 12
Tham's arm is shrouded in shadows, and two versions of his arm appears, one cutting high, the other cutting low at the priest.
Tham uses shadow blade technique, d20 roll (number one) = 11 + 3 = 14; d20 roll (number two) d20 roll 15 + 3 = 18, Tham opts to take the 18 for the attack
For the DM:
Spoiler:
If Tham hits, d6 roll = 5 + 2 = 7 points of piercing damage
A bit woozy from his fight and injuries, Tham has been a little out of it. Shaking off his distraction, he realized the party is in danger, and tries to jump back into the fray.
Sorry about the prolonged lack of posting. I got busy, and then when I wasn't quite as busy, I was a bit lost in the plot.
Tham, a bit confused over the flurry of action that has exploded around him, falls into his inner reserves and calls forth his enfolding shadows, in case he needs them to cover his movement.
Tham activates his stance and waits to figure out what he needs to do based on what everyone else does.
Tham follows everyone's lead, and tries to find a nice shadow to settle into and follow everyone else. Despite his natural inclination to be in the shadows, he's a bit shaken by his recent injuries.
As the others are discussing matters, after Dreav's healing burst has seeped through him, Tham spends about five minutes working through some sword katas and exercises to loosen himself up. He then closes his eyes and looses himself in the darkness for a few moments to center himself.
"I'm good. Just point me in the right direction, and I'll figure out if I want to stalk it or hit it straight up in the face."
"You know, I don't want to impose, but I think someone mentioned healing. I know I've started to clot and all, but I'm not thinking that's going to be quite enough if we run into any more surprises."
Moonpate grabs his crossbow and keeps an eye out for any more intrusions whilst his comrades "question" our host for the evening. He also moves towards Tham to help with any bandaging of wounds and to chastise him roundly for ditching us.
"Tham, what possessed you to come out here alone! Here, take a swig of my fortifying whiskey and start talking."
Moonpate produces his secret flask, takes a big swig himself, and passes it to Tham.
"I'll take you up on that," Tham says, as he reaches out and takes a draw from Moonpate's flask.
"I have to admit, even when I was working in a team in my younger days, working as a team meant doing your job, not sticking together. I'm still getting used to the difference between adventurer and hired killer."
Tham's stance doesn't come into play this round, as he can't really afford to try it.
Weakly swinging the pata and getting d20 roll 8 + 3 = 11
Doubting I hit, but just in case . . .
4 points of damage.
Tham, badly staggered and bleeding, barely standing, gets ready to swing his pata.
"Beshaba's always been a b&*@% to me. I think Mask must have got on her bad side and sold me out to her. Not riding Lady Luck's dark twin this evening, but when has that stopped me from gambling?"
Tham is going to keep moving around Otis to keep his stance going. His tumble check to get around Otis is d20 1 + 7 = 8 (argh).
In case I have to tumble away from any of the kobolds while moving, my check in for the kobold to avoid the attack is d20 9 + 7 = 16.
I'm using Shadow Blade technique this round as my standard action.
Attack roll #1 = d20 14 + 3 = 17
Attack roll #2 = d20 19 + 3 = 22
I'm going to be safe and take the second roll.
Damage, if I hit (and I sure hope I don't need more than a 22 to hit) =
1d6 5 + 2 = 7 damage from the pata.
Tham's arm is surrounded by shadow, then two arms wielding patas strike out, one high, one low, making it harder to defend against the attack due to the illusory second attack.
Also, can I see the dagger I threw, and how far away is it from me, if I can see it?
I'm going to attempt an acrobatics check to circle 10 feet around Otis, thus keeping my concealment active.
Acrobatics check d20 roll 10 + 7 = 17
Then, I'm going to use my standard action to use Clinging Shadow Strike . . .
Attack roll d20 6 + 3 = 9
Wow . . . I'm glad that wasn't like my best ability or anything . . . grumble . . .
On the way off chance that it actually hit, I'd do 9 points of damage, and he would have to make a DC 13 Fort save or have a 20% miss chance on all melee and ranged attacks for one round.
If its possible, as soon as I see my friends, and they are about to be sprung upon, if its possible, I'd like to punch one of the kobolds in the back of the head with my pata and yell, "Six kobolds lying in wait!"
If I can't reach any of the kobolds to announce the trap more dramatically, then I'll just wait until my friends get close and yet "Its a trap."
In that case, I'm going to wait a listen for a bit, assuming they are speaking Common (or Rashemi, which would surprise the hell out of me).
If I see my companions, coming, however, I'm going to attack before any of them are in range for a potential ambush.
Do I need to make a perception check to eavesdrop? And do I ned to make a separate one to keep an ear open for my companions, just in case they show up early?
1. Can I get close enough for a melee attack in the surprise round?
2. I am, on the weird off chance, going to wait and make sure the kobolds are hostile before I start slitting throats.
3. If they do look aggressive, but he isn't in immediate danger, I'll wait for a few seconds to see if a kobold gets near enough for me to take out with a melee attack.
I'll be more than happy to create a perch to watch the area for a few hours. Tham's more of a night owl, and caravan duty has been dulling his night time skills.
Once Tham hears any commotion, he heads out the window to set up his vantage point on the meeting spot. He'll scrawl a note that indicates that he has an assignation if he can scrounge the material, but if not, he just heads out.
Tham's always a bit restless trying to sleep at night. He can do it, but he's a restless sleeper. He's actually a bit excited to get a chance to do something under the cover of darkness.
Tham throws on his armor, straps on his pata, and activates his stance. Also, he's going about an hour early, and he's going to sneak into the area, hoping to get a look at whomever might be asking for the meeting before they get a look at him.
Tham laughs, "I should retire somewhere quiet if I don't want trouble? My friend, there isn't a place in Toril that the shadows don't follow me . . . but thank you for the advice."
Tham relaxes with his stew, intentionally not looking too concerned about anything.
For the DM:
Spoiler:
Ironically, Tham also has been trained since childhood to do something automatically, but that something is not really trusting people very much.
Tham is listening in on the conversation, and trying to discern if the halfling is holding anything back or putting on a front for our companions questions.
"Why do I get the feeling that Chauntea's priests never said a word about anything bad coming up either . . . I'd rather trust my own eyes than a distant god and what he chooses to reveal," Tham says, under his breath, more to his companions than to the hin attending them.
"I'm all for staying in here, but then again, I have to be honest and say that I'm hoping to draw the sick bastards out by lying right here in their midst."
"Lets get this over with. Damn Chauntea has let quite a bit happen to her followers in this corner of Faerun, whomever might have done these deeds. I guess vigilance isn't one of her interests."
Tham makes the gesture of Mask's faith that invokes Mask's shadow to hide them from the eyes of other gods, but then realizes that he's making this gesture out of habit rather than intentionally.
"Maybe I'm just jittery at this point, but I have a bad feeling that if we ignore the big dark scary building, some big dark scary thing will rush out and bite us in the arse . . . so I guess my vote would be to secure any potential dangerous areas first before we move on . . what say you all?"
For the DM:
Spoiler:
Tham concentrates for a moment and activates his stance, and begins to trail shadows whenever he is moving.
He also grabs his dagger in his off hand on top of having his pata strapped on.
