Lein, since Soulknives can buy 'crystalline focus' items that basically add +1 I figured it was indeed the best way to go. I'm also assuming that the attunement rules don't say if you use two weapons you get +1 to both, thus the different calculations for each weapon.

Oh, just a quick question. If and when we get to level 7, can I retrain Deadly Agility into something else, since my archetype will give me Agile by then?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Sheet's done.

Since we've a Duergar and a Warforged in the party I'm sure any hair-prejudice should be an amusing juxtaposition to racial-prejudice. The style's a reference to an Alfred Hitchcock book character who hwas a shaved head, eyebrows and beard, lending him a 'curiously agelss' appearance- just a bit of description I quite liked.

I'm sure at least one of my three classes will have something to solve that particular problem.

I'll join you with Map H.

I'd rather just go back to doing things through Forgotten Realms; or, just do it via a more traditional instant messenger (discord, skype) and use google drawings for maps.

...this situation does bring to mind questions of incentives.
Do I have any reason why I wouldn't want to hang back and let Ovk weaken the giants for a round or two while I buff up?

So, who's up?

Guess so
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Am I meant to be that fellow on the eastern side of the map?

You need to allow viewing on the link.

Alrighty then

GM, might I suggest putting the map on Google Drawings on an equivalent so we can move things easier? Also provides a chat client.

Oh, are we doing this PBP rather than Fantasy Grounds?
No particular opinion as to whether to do PVP or not. Toss a coin to decide if you like.

Sure.

I can make 7pm Saturday.

No, I did a session, and I understand at least one person had one before me.

Reckless, I believe I need some details from you to connect to you?

Make that 6:00pm.

I'll call Sunday Jul 3rd 3:00 PM .

I'll try and get Fantasy Grounds working.

It's alright, totally not your fault. I'll have a ponder about what the party needs.

I'm moderately ambivalent as to whether to make a new character or to raise this one. I would probably have liked to have known there was going to be a blaster arcanist going into this, so I guess I'd probably come down on the side of making a new character. Also helps in that it doesn't rob the party of resources/time.

Win some, y'lose some.

Sorry, missed that it was every round.

Jingasa.

A barrage of beetle-bites render Thak barely able to maintain his footing, blood pouring from heavy bites. He steps back, and matches Ravarel's magics, summoning his own blast of acid to scorch the creature.

Elemental Rod for Intensified Empowered Fireball (acid), hitting the south beetle and the knight.
DC 23 Reflex to halve 13d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 3, 1, 4, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2, 3) = 39 *1.5 acid damage

Sorry, my bad.

I would note that there are plenty of creatures which are large (or larger) and lack reach; typically creatures which are a 'long' large as opposed to a 'tall' large, like horses and say a beetle.

Any chance you're a GM who'd say 'from looking at the creatures Thak would have recognized reach and thus known to cast defensively'? We did make a knowledge check on them.

My bad
Will 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (15) + 21 = 36

Taking a step back, Thak summons an orb of fire to cook the beetles in their shells. "Companion Pyrrhus; after we conclude this fight" he scowls at the Kyuss knight "we must see how we can share your wounds."

Intensified Empowered Fireball against both beetles, should be able to safely get them.
DC 23 Reflex to halve 13d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 1, 4, 4, 1, 1, 3, 6, 5, 6, 6, 3) = 51*1.5 fire damage

I have communal endure elements prepared, but unless the heat actually provides penalties, Thak marches stolidly on despite the sweltering jungle heat. Reaching for Pyrrhus' windy arm he allows himself to be lifted up and over, enjoying the brief rush of whirling air.

K Religion 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Perception 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (9) + 25 = 34

Thak looks ahead grimly. "The vile attract followers most often in a time of vileness... no wonder what drove them, then." He steps a foot down and deliberately squashes and kills one of the Kyuss worms. He turns and nods to Ravarel. "For the ziggurat we head."

Let's walk a little slower than usual; take 10 on perception checks along the way there for 35 (or more if people Aid Another me), keeping an eye out for traps and encounters.

Prepared spells in my profile.

"I have indeed expended a dear amount of fireballs. A night's recovery would be welcome before venturing unto the jungle."

He half-bows. "I can think of nothing further."

"But see, amid the mimic rout,
A crawling shape intrude!
A blood-red thing that writhes from out
The scenic solitude!
It writhes!—it writhes!—with mortal pangs
The mimes become its food,
And seraphs sob at vermin fangs
In human gore imbued."

"...the angels, all pallid and wan,
Uprising, unveiling, affirm
That the play is the tragedy, “Man,”
And its hero, the Conqueror Worm."

Shaking off the last vestiges of the quietly whispered poem, Thak nods to himself and then the wizard. "Your words have the ring of true destiny, sir. I believe it is the will of my patron, my fate to follow this path lay down... if these good fellows will accept me as companion." He half-bows. "While those most outspoken speak of the undead as an extension of law, as an end fine when used with rightful means, no dwarf would condone this chaos-worm, this doomsday necrocide. All prisons opened and unguarded, all justice moot? I would join any party not willing to countenance this.... and I believe this will be not any mere party."

Thak blinks and nods his head slowly. "I... see. Indeed fortunate. Kind words for my brother, thank you, sir."

"And... we are needed?"

Thak scrutinizes the mage, trying to discern his intentions, and if he is lying about or exaggerating any of this.
Sense motive 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31

Thak nods in grudging respect at the size and height of the dome. "...fine workmanship."

Inside the castle, he grows a little uncomfortable, shying away from the comforts and standing still at attention.

The dwarf bows his head slightly. "Thank you, captain" he says as he firmly shakes his hand.

K Planes 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Thak hesitates a moment, sizing up the woman, but eventually nods. "...for how long will the archmage wish to see us? Shall I see to the travel of my brother's remains first, or...?"

The bald dwarf goes quite calmly with the guards, still rhythmically rubbing the red beads around his wrist.

He shrugs bashfully. "I was high in the stands, and my divine patron's magics are most powerful from a distance... though it seems I was not as proper a channel as I should have been, given my results." He pauses, and grows serious. "Sir, my brother perished in the arena; might I take charge of his remains, to be sent back home for proper funerary rites?"

High in the stands, ready to step over and leave the arena, Thak suddenly pauses, remembering soemthing. He turns and shades his eyes, gazing down and gaining his first proper look into the grounds below; until now his gaze had been fixed above on the worm, a relaxed gaze dealing with fireballs and monsters. Now his eyes can see things much smaller, much more personal. "Brother..." he whispers as he realizes what occured, what his fire wrought. He strokes his red beads for comfort. "...brother... I pray my fire cleansed that foul taint from your body, that your soul will be seen safely to our ancestors..." He takes a breath and sits himself on onee of the seats, concentrating on a scrap of doggerel. "Haborym, see me know my pain, see me feel it, see me let it pass, see my duty unswayed and reinvigorated, Haborym..."

After a minute, he comprehends Pyrrhus' words and nods in agreement as the rest of the crowd cheers. "Kyuss... we had our own score to settle, now we have another. And perhaps, brother, by bringing me here you have given me the means to this righteous end..."

He resolves to, tomorrow, meet with the group in the sands and offer his services. For the moment though, he is content to sit quietly and listen, and hold his memories of his brother in his mind.

Well, piercing is -5 SR not +5 on my SR check, but I take your point.

Covering a sigh of relief as the creature is finally downed, the dwarf high in the stands turns and slowly walks out of the arena, somewhat ashamed that his fire failed to even touch the great creature. "Haborym, why did you not bless me with your favor this day... was answering my family member's call not your will?"

Thak summons a third fireball, less powerful but hopefully just as capable of piercing the worm's defenses. He looks around the suddenly-waiting crowd as the ball spirals its way towards the creature. "FLY, YOU FOOLS!"

Piercing Intensified Fireball
DC 23 Reflex to halve 13d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 4, 4, 1, 6, 2, 1, 1, 2, 5, 1) = 43 fire damage
SR 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Auto-pass the concentration check

Muttering a curse, from high in the stands Thak attempts another burst of fire, aimed at the worm and its new corrupted minions.

Intensified empowered piercing fireball
DC 23 Reflex to halve 13d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 5, 1, 1, 2, 1, 5, 5, 6, 3, 3) = 45*1.5 fire damage
SR 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Auto-pass the concentration check

And now I see that Piercing is a 1-level metamagic, not 2. I am not having a good week with this character. I'll fiddle with the spell list for the last time soon.

High in the stands, Thaks' mind is a blur of motion and focus. Undead, enormous so terrible at avoiding blasts... yes, this one. He mutters under his breath "Haborym, I summon your jailing fire" and launches a small red cube at the worm, which upon hitting expands into a large fiery cage, scorching the maggot before vanishing.

Intensified empowered piercing fireball
DC 23 Reflex to halve 13d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 6, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 5, 6, 6, 1) = 39*1.5 fire damage
SR 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 13 + 5 = 20

So what do I get if I meet the DC? One question? If so, I'd like to know energy resistances and immunities.

Everyone, if I roll a K Check please assume I shout the results out for everyone to hear, would appreciate it if others did likewise.

K Religion 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Thak stands, his gaze focusing, surveying the hideous creature.

Thak dutifully claps but otherwise doesn't pay too much attention to the battle, looking at the people around him for anyone interesting or exceptionally out of place.

It's a very different source, you're fine, it won't override.

That's right, I was going to add in my wisdom bonuses and forgot, thanks.
I have breath of life and channel I think I'll be okay, might grab a death ward or two though.

Alright, I'll adjust my traits and spell-loadout. Actually I kind of like it this way- I'll apply the other trait to Flame Strike or something similar and gain a touch more flexibility in my blasting.

Yep, I already have Spell Focus.
