You may only used the Elven race as it exists within the 3.5 Players Handbook. None of those subraces exist there. Cosmetically, an Elf can probably look however you want, but mechanically, you've only got one option. Hope this helps. My meeting with Bruce at The Armoury went well. He's definitely excited about starting up a local PFS. He wants to do it on Tuesday nights. He has a bi-weekly 4th edition D&D game on Tuesday nights, and wants to fill the other weeks with Pathfinder. This is fine with me, as I have a fairly flexible schedule and frankly, beggars can't be choosers. We're going to set up a "meet and greet" for October 21st. This will allow potential players to meet each other (and the DM), learn more about PFS, learn character creation, etc. It was his idea, and I think it's pretty good. And it gives us 2 weeks to generate some interest and get the word out. If all goes well, PFS will probably begin Tuesday, November 4th (go vote, then come play PFS!), starting at 6pm and run till 10pm. Bruce has agreed to be flexible and stay open another hour, if needed--they close at 9. That's all the information I have for now. I'll let you know if anything else comes up. Update: I have a meeting with someone from the Armoury tomorrow afternoon to discuss the details about running PFS there. I'll let you know how it goes. If you've never been to the Armoury, it's a nice little place. Well-organized, well-lit, and by all accounts, well-ventilated. The seem to be pretty heavily into Warhammer, but have a variety of everything--including a very nice Pathfinder display. DarkWhite wrote: Well, I didn't receive any FastPlay characters by email, and with a con only a week away, I thought I'd give it a shot myself. If you want to save yourself some work, I've got copies of Dragnmoon's pregens. I'd be happy to send them to you. Send me an email to zarffyn "at" gmail "dot" com and I'll send his sheets to you in a zip file. Alright, I'm taking it upon myself to get something rolling. I've emailed the Armoury, and will be setting something up soon to go in and talk to them about running PFS there on a regular basis (probably bi-weekly). They seem excited about the prospect. If you're in the area and would be interested in playing PFS on a regular basis, please let me know here. I'd like to be able to give them a general idea of interested players. I'll keep everyone updated. Chris Mortika wrote: I apologize for being an idjit. In particular, I apologize to Teresake, who was simply trying to explain the situation as she understood it to me. Whoa, don't worry about it. I'm not feeling abused. :) Hopefully, we'll see the updated PFS Guide soon, which will answer many of our questions, here or there. I think the t-shirt ruling is pretty cool, personally. Besides, if I spent friggin' $25 on an official PFS Faction t-shirt, I'd want something out of it besides a spiffy packaging job. At our table at GenCon, no one even used this, even though two of the players had their faction shirts. One guy could have though...he was playing a Dwarven cleric and failed his rope check as we were trying to shimmy across from one building to another. Though, I admit his use of animate rope was rather innovative. Chris Mortika wrote: (But I'm curious: how do you know which of the Beta rules will be making it into the final draft of the Pathfinder RPG? ) I've been to the future, and actually have a copy of the official Pathfinder RPG rules. (Well, no, but that would be cool.) Considering how much revision the RPG has gone through, and still yet to go, nothing is ever certain. Regarding this particular rule, however, 1. it is a good rule, and 2. I don't think something relatively minor will be changed (especially when someone will always house rule this differently). Chris Mortika wrote: Correction: Josh unofficially announced that house rule. There is no correction. Josh announced the rule during convention play at GenCon Indy, and presumably at GenCon UK as well, and has already said that it would be written into the next version of the organized play guide. Set wrote: Using Create Undead, a necromancer could use cattle bones to make a humanoid skeleton (which would likely be easily mistaken for a minotaur skeleton!), which, again, would be a cow. One with access to jungle critters could use Apes, and even have them using weapons. Heh...that sounds like a lot of fun...*files that idea away for later use* I'm jumping on the bandwagon here. I love this topic. I've been a fan of neutral necromancy ever since laying my hands on the Hollowfaust book. Since then, I've had some merry debates with a friend, who is decidedly on the "necromancy is evil, 'nuff said" side of the fence. It's already been stated that negative energy is not evil. The plane is not, therefore the act of channeling negative energy should not be. (What you do with it, is another thing, but again, the same goes for any other spell in the PHB.) I've never been of the mind that animating undead "enslaves" the soul of the deceased within the rotting/skeletal corpse. It says nothing of the sort in the spell description. I think that it is the negative energy itself which animates the undead, binding it to your will and commands. No, you couldn't raise dead or resurrect anyone, because their body is in use. Create undead, is another matter. To have intelligence, I think a body must also have a soul or spirit of some kind. So, in most cases, creating undead is an evil act, and usually leads to evil undead. (There is an exception in Hollowfaust, where we have a Lawful Good lich, who was used in an experiment against his will.) I love that healing spells were usually necromancy in 2E. But I don't think it's really appropriate anymore. They should be balanced against each other, but not in an alignment-related way. (BTW, we never play anything that has no moral relativism. We use alignment only as a guideline for character action, and for certain game mechanics.) There's a small press product called "Trees of Fantasy." In it, you have a tree called the Bone Spruce. This tree only grows in and around graveyards, and it's heartwood is bone white. When used by someone with the appropriate skills, one can craft a skeleton from the wood. This wooden skeleton can then be animated, as if a corpse. Now, granted, this is a small press product. But if such a thing is possible (and in D&D, anything is), it provide an interesting point and method for someone to be a "white" or "grey" necromancer. (It does say in the text that when animate dead is cast on a skeleton made of bone spruce, the spell does not apply the [evil] descriptor.) Illessa wrote: I certainly hope this isn't the case, the item/cash system is already somewhat unfriendly to wizards since for spells after first level they're stuck with the 4 spells they get from levelling plus whatever they can get their hands on via scenarios (it's even more unfriendly to specialists). Remove that little plus and wizards lose all the versatility that many people play them for, you might as well just play a sorcerer and be done with it :). That's exactly what I was thinking. Hopefully, the next version of the Guide will clarify this, though maybe we'll get an official ruling sooner. Chris Mortika wrote:
Fortunately, you won't have to. Once Pathfinder RPG goes live next August, we'll use that rule officially. In Pathfinder, you die when you negatively equal your constitution score, or if your CON is 9 or less, when you reach -10. But up until that point, official 3.5 rules stand: a character dies once you reach -10 hit points. As for the shirt, Josh officially announced the rule during convention play. Though 2 guys at my table wore their shirt, neither actually used the benefit during the game. The next version of the Guide will contain the official rules, however. exile wrote:

*coughcough* I wish I had the skills to do this kind of thing myself. I'm proficient in a lot of things, but crafting character sheets and the like...well, they're never pretty and there's always something better out there. So, even though I'm anxious, please don't think I'm not grateful for all the hard work that you're putting into this undertaking. Or, perhaps, all characters are restricted to one animal companion per character, with the exception of characters whose classes allow a companion or familiar as a class feature. When the beta rules go into effect, this question will become even more important. If you have a bonded object, does that count as your familiar with regards to this rule? I also think it's necessary to allow a wizard or druid with an animal to buy a horse, but also see the need to restrict such options. Perhaps a compromise? A wizard or druid can perhaps "rent" a horse to ride if necessary within the scenario, but cannot keep the horse past the end of the game? Kind've like using items found within the scenario, but not buying them at the end? Just my thoughts. Jandar Southwind wrote: Ok, so I read the Pathfinder Society PDF, and there is a question I have. Since these charactes are following 3.5 until Gen-Con 2009, what is Open Access? In other words, can I use the Complete Books for character creation (ie Complete Divine etc...)? Michael is correct. Only the 3.5 Player's Handbook is allowed, as well as any information listed in the organized play guide. No other sources are permitted. hogarth wrote:

Can I do this without losing my faction-related Prestige Awards or MUST all my PC serve the goals of the Osirion Faction because as a Player I chose to support that faction? You as the player choosing a faction has absolutely no significance. That is solely for messageboard purposes. You do not gain any prestige awards as a player. Only characters gain them. All that matters is what faction your character chooses. Each individual character may only select one faction. thelesuit wrote:
I only use Firefox, so I can safely say it works with it. I'm not a technical expert, so unfortunately, aside from setting it up, I'm not much use. I fixed the title. Those fixing to add to the map....don't change the title or description on the left hand side. That is for the WHOLE map, not just your place. :) Looking at all the local PFSOP threads on here, I had an idea. Until we get something available to more clearly advertise local events, I thought maybe we could create a google map and point out our information there? I know people do the "whole where are you located" thing, so I guess it would be similar to that. If you're organizing a Pathfinder Society in your area, or know of one, simply add it to the map with any play information you can provide, as well as a way to contact someone. (If this is a home game, I do NOT advise putting home address or phone information. Perhaps a common email address, or one created specifically for this purpose.) I was thinking mostly of using it for US players, but it could definitely be used for international players as well. Here is the link: Pathfinder Society Google Map It is editable by anyone. I hope this helps people find their way into a local game. Good luck! Ulak wrote: My understanding was that the Campaign Hardcover was fair game as well, and these domains are contained within it. Not exactly. We were told we could only use the chapter on equipment. The PFCS is not fair game, because we've already been told that we cannot use other things within that book, such as the alternate class features. The SRD is not the same thing as the 3.5 PH, and we've been told we can only use the 3.5 PH. I do agree, however, that since Pathfinder deities are allowed, that the Guide should include a reprint of domains that are not within the PH. At this rate, the next Guide is going to weigh a ton when printed... :) JediSoth wrote:
No one signs up as a Game Master. Someone in your group needs to download the scenario, and someone needs to run it. In time, there will be a way to report the scenario results online. At this time, Josh asked that we email the relevant information to him. Which, as I am on my way to work, I don't have time to search for. So, if someone could kindly re-port that information, I'd appreciate it. cappadocius wrote:

Which is exactly what I said, and what Josh implied, when he said he'd figure it out if he ever decided to allow a lycanthropic NPC into a scenario. :) The room wasn't very good for acoustics, I agree. I played Iron DM in the Omni Severin ballroom, and while we didn't have quite so many tables, we mostly had an easier time hearing (aside from the regular "BONZAIS" being called out, and really, you can't complain about people rolling nat 20s). I will definitely say I prefer a different room. I'm a bit hard of hearing, and combined with Chris' loss of voice, there were things that I missed and had to have repeated. alleynbard wrote:
Let me know where and when you're doing this. I'm talking to Matthew about a possible home run game (he mentioned looking for a few players), but I'm not positive if the timing will work out for me and my roommate. Based on the character creation rules, a PFS character cannot start play or choose to become a lycanthrope. Therefore the only way to become one is to meet one in a scenario, get bitten, and so on. However, Josh mentioned somewhere that they would deal with the situation of lycanthropy if and/or when they introduced a lycanthropic character into a scenario. So if it becomes important, we'll know the answer as soon as we ask the question, thereabouts. :) Edit: GEEZ! In the time it took me to write this, Josh had already responsed like four times!!! Zootcat wrote: Thanks. What about July? Will there be no scenarios because that month is off season? Josh said that there would be a "30-day amnesty" period in order to transfer characters from 3.5 to Pathfinder RPG rules. I also read somewhere that no one needs to register as a DM. Someone needs to download the scenarios and run them, and that's it. But I'll admit to still being unclear about the specifics. Josh, I don't suppose you'd kindly take a few and spell it out for those of us running a little slow...or un-caffeinated, as the case may be. :) Christopher Sniezak wrote:
I had the pleasure of playing in Chris' Saturday group (the voice wasn't that bad really, once we tuned everything out). The Qadrian merchant of whom he speaks was absolutely friggin' hilarious ("Mak'mud" or something like that). He even had the accent for it. I played Frozen Fingers of Midnight with a friend, at Chris' table, and had I known how much fun I was going to have, I would have played the other three as well. As it stands, I'm itching to start an organized play in my area and run some Pathfinder goodness!
