Korian:
The entire thing seems to be made of a natural, fibrous material. If you didn't know better, you'd say this was some kind of plant. The hatch is made from the same material as the rest, but has a wooden frame supporting it. The whole thing seems pretty sturdy to the touch, but their is light coming from the front so it must be thinner there. Note that you are getting further from the group. The thing ... or creature ... or whatever it is ... continues on its way, travelling away from you, but on a curving path. If it is circling around, it is doing so very, very slowly. The thing's fins shift a bit and its direction shifts a bit to the left. It now looks like it won't pass directly over top of you but about 30 ft. to the east and 30 ft. above you. It's moving about 40 ft. per round. There's something on its side that appears to be writing. Perception DC 15:
The word "Seedscatterer" is written on the side. Wicht wrote:
Wicht and I both do freelancing regularly and one of us has an excellent reputation for turning in work on time and up to spec. The other one is me. Sykala & Korian:
The texture, the colour, the shape, and the ribs all resemble things found in nature but never of this size. The thing looks like a giant seed pod. There are definitely additions to the device, however, that are crafted by sentient creatures (unless, of course, the thing is a sentient creature. Seed pods don't usually hum and hover and buzz along at a good pace. Ixius & Korian:
As far as you can tell, there's magic of some sort at work here. It doesn't expend the kind of energy that a non-magical creature would need to expend to move. Refina:
You've seen nothing like this before. It seems otherwordly, but there are planes and planets besides this one. You have not heard of this, but you've heard of things stranger still. Ovirid:
You knowledge of engineering helps you to understand the non-natural additions to this thing, whatever it is. Even from this distance, the rails along the bottom appear scrapped. They remind you of the rails on a sledge for pulling it over snow or sand. Fins and pouchs over the side could be used to adjust its weight. Sorry for the delay. I'm not the artist on my Rite Publishing work, except for the occasional map. The three monks look at each other and decide to beat a hasty retreat. Unless you attempt to attack them as they run, they're abandoning you. The men that Refina guided out of the circle ran a bit of a ways and then hung out in the distance. Remember this has all only taken about 20 seconds, so their not returning isn't such an odd thing. At this point, however, they are diving to the ground as the thrumming sound grows closer. The 100 ft. long thing continues towards you. It is =about 50 ft. away, but it suddenly begins to bank to the left. Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:
Your adversary seems to be listening, worried, but does not look away from you to see what the commotion is. Does this mean you are delaying your action? BTW, my latest Rite Publishing supplement #30 Fleshgrafts is dedicated to "Those who brave the Tomb of the Emperor Gods. Thanks for keeping me entertained." The monk avoids the quickly-aimed ray from Ixius. Initiative Order Round 3
The noise grows louder, sounding like an angry hum. Those who look South, away from the combat can look under the spoiler.
Over the dunes ...:
Something greyish-brown is coming over the dunes. It's about 100 ft. long and ovular in shape with thick ribs about every 10 ft. It has no discernible face, but the front of it is a different colour. Fins and wooden rails on the bottom suggest it is manmade but for the most part it seems organic. No part of it touches the ground. Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:
Okay, if you don't bull rush him back, he can't use his ranseur for this. He can still attempt a disarm with another attack (and, being a mon, he is able to attack with his feet without dropping the ranseur). This gives him a lower result though. He only manages to knock the shield out of your hand. The one attacking Refina can use his ranseur as he has reach. Refina and Korian, working together, bring down the first of the four foes. Ovirid connects with his shield. Ovirid, I think it would be just a matter of your ally getting out of the way if the bull rush pushed your opponent into the allies square. I'll look it up if you decide to make the maneuver. The man you hit swings his ranseur about with a sweep that hooks your shield smashing it into your other hand and taking your axe out as well. Another uses his ranseur to knock Refina's glaive from her, while a third pokes at Refina but misses. You weren't throwing those axes, were you? Refina Frizart wrote:
Right you are. I'm not sure why I was thinking a five-foot step moves you in or out of a threatened square without AoO but not THROUGH a threatened square, which is what you were doing. (Is that D&D minis or 3.5 rules?). The guy who hit, really hit, magic or not.) The ranseur's give these guys reach and I see no reason for them not to take their AoO against Refina when she moves in. They both miss, however. Ovirid's attack misses. The featherman flanked by Refina and Korian takes two severe hits. He kicks at Refina as does the man beside him. Both miss. One of the feathermen at 3:00 lashes out at his former prisoner, with a hard kick to the chest. The other swings his ranseur out to attack Refina. This one connects. 9 points of damage. CLICK HERE: Hope this helps. M=man, f=featherman, K=Korian, O=Ovirid, R=Refina, I=Ixius, S=Sykala. I think square brackets are called brackets and round brackets are called parentheses. The men are clustered in two pairs: one pair at 3:00 and the other pair at 11:00. Ixius and Korian are behind the men at 11:00. Ovirid is behind the men at 3:00. Sykala, Refina, and the other guy are in the center. Initiative Order Round 1
The sand stops even more suddenly than it began. The source of the wind simply ceases and the flying grains of sand drop to the ground with a 'whish' sound. You are all within the 40 ft. diameter circle formed by the sand with Refina, Sykala, and one of the men you rescued at the center. They are surrounded by the four 'feather-men' who could hear them, but not quite see them. The 'feather-men,' for their part are surrounded by Ixius, Korian, and Ovirid, who were cautiously entering the circle of sand when the sand dropped. Since about 9 rounds have passed and you have not been in active combat for most of that time, I am going to call for a new round of initiative rolls. (I recall Korian suggesting that one person could roll for the party but I leave that up to you to decide. I'd rather not do it.) Ixius and Korian:
It is difficult to see beyond 5 ft. in the cloud of sand, but Korian spots some illumination close to the center. Sykala and Refina:
The man Refina is questioning shakes his head. It's hard to see anything beyond 5 ft., but you think you see some two medium sized figures moving near you. Ovirid:
You find the spot at which the feathers were dropped. Despite the wind that has blown over the area, you can see that the men who dropped them walked into the swirling cloud of sand. It's hard to keep track of rounds with a separated party and lots of move actions, but I'd say this is around the top of round 8. Sykala and Refina:
You find each other in the middle of the sand. Refina is trying to escort a man from the center of the circle but he seems hesitant. Ovirid:
The man stumbles out of the dust cloud and rubs his wrists. He turns back towards the cloud and watcjes as another man steps out of the cloud. They nod to each other and one gestures away from the cloud. They continue walking. Ixius and Korian:
Ixius is just about to enter the cloud when he hears Korian calling to him. Korian is approaching from outside of the cloud. Refina:
You manage to untie two of the men despite barely being able to see them. They head out of the sand on their own, patting your arm to show you which direction they are heading. The third man seems either stuck or terrified or confused. He's moving around too much for you to untie him and resisting your attempts to lead him away. The wind that kicks up where the feathers drop, carries a gust of stinging sand towards you. It does not damage, but fills the area around you with a cloud of dust that obscures your vision. You cannot see each other and, so, you cannot see where Ovirid and Korian have gone or where Sykala is. Please spoiler your actions as you cannot see each other. Sykala:
The monks you are watching head straight into the cloud. Ovirid:
You can try to circle around the dust cloud, but you cannot see where your potential targets are. Korian:
If you want to stop concentrating and attack, you can, but you can't see your targets in round 3. You can no longer see their magical auras either. Korian Allande wrote:
You are still studying the auras this round. I don't think you can study and fight at the same time. Korian Allande wrote:
As mentioned, there are some magical auras around and on the four that did not run straight towards you. The three [whoops, I wrote 'four' before] that have their hands tied and ran at you do not have magical auras on them. The feather dropped generates some strong conjuration magic. You also detect some other conjuration magic on and around the four. Refina Frizart wrote: Refina attempts to remove the gag in one of the mens mouths. The man lets her and mumbles a 'thanks!' as she does. The four men whose hands were not tied, do not move further towards you. (Two stand back where they were when they heard the death worm. The other pursued Ovirid until they rounded the dune and then stopped about 30 ft. away.)
Initiative (Round 2)
Sykala? Korian Allande wrote: Korian was moving back towards the way the men came from, scanning the path behind them too (like for invisibility or such). As he detects the auras on the men, he concentrates on them more, trying to determine exactly what types of magics affect them and how strong they are. The men were coming pretty much straight towards you, but I'll take it that you are hiding. I was just trying to figure out if you were moving towards Ovirid or not. The information you are asking for will take time to gather. For the school, it would be the third round of concentrating before you would know. The three men with hands tied to their spears come charging right into the midst of Refina and Ixius. One has been burnt by Ixius' ray but still lives. They are trying to tell you something, but tan-colored cloths stuffed in their mouths prevent it. Ovirid arrives at about the same time. The two men who were pursuing Ovirid stop when they see he is with Refina and Ixius. Initiative (Round 1)
Sykala is back aways checking out tracks I think. Korian Allande wrote:
Which way are you moving? Around in the direction that Ovirid went and is returning from or in the opposite direction? There are some magical auras around and on the four that did not run straight towards you. The four that have their hands tied and ran at you do not have magical auras on them. Ovirid Thorvirson wrote:
Initiative please Ovirid. Sykala:
There is nothing unusual about the tracks. Korian:
They are real. When the sound of Korian's death worm hits their ears, three of the group run straight ahead, in the direction of Korian, Ixius and Refina. Their cries are strangled and muffled. Two others turn to fight, raising their ranseurs to spear the worm. Two others break off directly towards Ovirid who is only about 30' away from them to their left. Up until now, they hadn't seemed aware of Ovirid, but they certainly seem to know where he's hiding now. Ovirid and anyone else beating DC 15 Perception:
The three running towards Korian, Ixius, and Refina have their hands tied to their ranseurs. Korian Allande wrote: Trying to goad the guards into some type of action, Korian conjures the very loud sound of a huge slithering creature, the dreaded and fabled death worm slithering up from a dune behind the guards and coming quickly. It then roars voraciously, the sound of it's acid venom creating a violent hiss as it hits the sand. (Will DC15 if they interact with it) How close do you let them get to you before you do this?
