Background

Life as a jedi had never been easy for Tamara Kess, or as she would put it, "War makes training difficult." Kess, as she prefers to be called, was chosen as a padawan at the age of 11, 5 years before the Clone Wars began. Her master, a bothan named Zeharik Ulshun, said he had chosen her because of her promising Force potential, and trained her accordingly, pushing her to learn as much as she could in every discipline. Often, she would lie down at the end of the day too exhausted to actually sleep. Kess never regretted it, though.

Forced into service in the war with her master, Kess watched her master die when he shielded her from a the blast of a Separatist tank during an ambush on Falleen. Assumed dead when the Separatists took the planet, Kess was in fact alive, and living in the shadows of the Falleen capital. After three galactic standard weeks of skulking through the city, living off of ration packs stolen from enemy forces, Kess got her break.

The Separatists had been looking for her the entirety of the time, sending out search parties and bounty hunters to track her down, all to no avail. One such party, perhaps more foolish than most, left their ship in running condition when the landed to search her current hiding spot. With little hesitation, Kess stole the ship from them, and made her getaway into hyperspace moments before the orbital defenses could blast her into dust.

Despite all this, she was still refused the rank of Jedi Knight upon her return to Coruscant, the council citing her lack advanced training, and secretly, their suspicion that she had begun tapping the dark side. Despite all this, Kess accepted the Council's wisdom on the matter, and remembering her tough, yet good time under her master, rededicated herself to the Jedi path, learning somewhat from her master's holocron he had placed in the Jedi Archives.

When the Jedi fell, Kess was on her way back to Coruscant following the message from the Temple. Receiving the new message when Obi-Wan changed it, she absconded with an escape shuttle, and vanished into the Outer Rim. From then, until now, she has done what she can to strike back at the newly minted Galactic Empire. With little time to spare for her Jedi training, given the preparations needed to shield herself from the Empire's inquisitors, Kess has barely advanced past her former level of training, coming instead to rely on her natural abilities as time passes.
