Background:
Jandar was the result of a failed marriage between his father (a human) and his mother (an elf). He grew up an only child with his father, who was a shipwright in the city of Korvosa. His mother left them after she found her husband betraying their marriage in a bed with another woman, and fled with shame back to her elven home. Jandar was raised by his father as well as the old man could muster up to be; in the end, however, the man's busy work schedule lead Jandar to grow lonely and bored. Eventually he took to pick-pocketing and running street scams for money and entertainment, but the crowd which he found in the underbelly of the city changed his playful pastime into an endless bout of delinquency. When his father died of old age, it sent the half-elf into a bout of depression and doubt in which he buried himself, becoming a very successful con man. He was quite good at his chosen profession, but not quite good enough, as his biggest and most daring con to date failed. He had spent months wooing a young elven noble so that he could steal her family's fortune. The young elf, however, caught on to his scheme at the last moment, discovering the stash of thieves tools which he had hidden under their bed, that he had planned to use to gain entry to the family's vaults within their mansion. The maiden reported her findings to her father immediately, who tried to kill Jandar with his crossbow. Jandar narrowly escaped the house, and the last thing he witnessed before diving from the window was the heartbroken laments of his lover, and the rage-filled shouts of her father promising vengeance. Having no home and no life in Korvosa, the scoundrel fled to Riddleport by boat that night. He has been laying low there ever since, stealing and conning to get by, but not so much as to draw attention to himself. He has been operating under the alias "Sweeney" so far. Personality:
Jandar is a silver-tongued rascal through and through. He has a brash, indomitable, and down-right sarcastic demeanor, and devil-may-care outlook. He is accustomed to reading people and has a knack for knowing how they tick, which he uses to his advantage whenever possible. He has kept his skills sharp, for thus far it has proven to be his livelihood and admittedly, he has fun doing it. It is hard to tell if he really is as shallow as he appears, or if he has deeper feelings lurking just below the surface which only seemingly random acts of kindness give hints to. Appearance:
Jandar has honey-colored hair and blue eyes. He typically lets his hair grow to shoulder-length and sports a very short beard to hide his half-elf status, partly because he no longer identifies himself with his elven heritage, and because having two possible identities has come in handy. He has been known to operate under disguise at times, when his needs call for it. Currently he is living in Riddleport under the guise of a human commoner named "Sweeney." |
