Work is going to be taking me out to San Francisco in a couple of weeks, and I was hoping some of you might be able to suggest a few good used bookstores and/or a gaming shop that I might check out on my trip.

Thanks in advance.

For those dinosaur aficionados out there, the March 2011 issue of Wood Magazine has the plans and patterns for a rather neat, seven-piece dinosaur puzzle.

If you've got some skill with a band or scroll saw and like dinosaurs you might want to give it a look. Actually, from the looks of it, as long as you have a steady hand and can cut within the lines, it doesn't look like it is too difficult of a project.

I've been sitting here for the last couple of hours reading the various threads, trying to take my mind off the fact that my wife's car was damaged and someone stole my mailbox. In the process of ripping the relatively inexpensive mailbox from the post, the vandal also splintered a post that I had spent no small amount of time crafting--even carved the house's numbers on it. The box can be replaced; the rearview mirror reattached, but the work on the post is gone.

So, while it is a small thing in the grand scheme of the world, I just can't stop wondering why. And I can't stop the anger from rising in my throat like bile.

As I've been reading these august boards over the years, I've noticed from time to time that people lament that posts have been eaten. I think we should all come together when it happens and talk about our "first time."

Mine just occurred: 19 June 09 at 6:21pm

The group I've joined recently (within the past year) is starting to think about its next adventure once _Expedition to Castle Ravenloft_ wraps up. The DM has decided he needs a break, and I volunteered to don the mantle; however, there are a couple of points that must be addressed.

One: I've only played in about twelve (give or take) sessions of D&D 3.5.
Two: The last edition I actually DMed was 1e.
Third: My knowledge of the rules is fair, so I want to start at first level to get my bearings.

Since one of the players has read all the Pathfinder adventures (and I really enjoyed reading the first PF--great work all around), and the "retiring" DM is interested in playing in the Shackled City, I think that is going to be the next adventure.

Now, to my question. . .

Can any of you "old salts" give a greenhorn some advice? The players are familiar with the rules, so I imagine that they'll be understanding at first. What should I anticipate with regards to some of the requirements a 3.5e has?

Thanks in advance.

I was quite excited when the new issue arrived in my mailbox yesterday. I have a question of the cover artist, or anyone else who might have an answer. . .

I'm trying to figure out the perspective of the central figure--it appears that the woman in the chair is leaning backward, the position of her shoulders and chest suggest that her head is lolling back out of view; however, the face of the (second?) figure seems to hover just over the top of the chest. The head also seems wider than the outside width of the shoulders. . .are there two figures or am I missing something about this one figure?
The clawlike hands suggest that she isn't quite human, does she have a serpentine neck?

It is an intriguing portrait; I'm just having a little trouble making out what it is I'm seeing.

I just got a copy of this issue from Sept/Oct 2002.

In the upper left hand corner there is some text which claims: Spider Queen Bonus Adventure.

I've looked through the magazine and don't see anything mentioning the Spider Queen. Was this an error? Was it left out? Is my issue simply missing it?

Thanks.

I've been reading through the Shackled City Hardcover and found a few typos. Are there any plans to reprint the book in the future? I ask this because, if there are, I can (and I'm sure others can as well) start listing typos so they can be cleaned up. Otherwise, there's no real point in doing it.

Just trying to be helpful.

I've just got hold of a few of the older Dungeon magazines (stuff numbered in the 50s & 60s). I noticed, as I skimmed through a few of them, quite a few "ads" about diabetes, heart disease, stuttering, etc. Were these paid ads or was Dungeon doing some public service announcements? If the latter, why stop doing them. . .I must say that I found their presence in the magazine intriguing. They seemed to add a “community-service aspect to the game and its players—and, if your playing group was anything like mine when I was younger, the “get out and exercise message was applicable. We spent many, many, many days of our summer vacation gathered around a table playing for 8-10 hours at a clip. The only real exercise we ever got was biking to and from each other’s houses.

Anyway, if they were just ads, even though they had no D&D content (as some folk might criticize) I say we can do without a couple of the ads for miniatures and the like. What a great place to try to raise more awareness about the treatable issues plaguing our society. If they were PSAs—bring ‘em back! What better way to shine some good light on this great hobby of ours—who knows, Dungeon might even save a few lives. Now wouldn’t that be some welcome news.

Hey, is the cover of Dragon #333 a secret? The image has been unavailable for roughly a week. I don't know about the rest of you, but I find my anticipation grows a bit when I can take a sneak peak at the cover of the upcoming issue. . .what's the deal?

What is the procedure for getting a magazine resent that seems to be lost in the mail. It may be too early to say anything, but up until this month, I've been getting issues about ten days from the date of shipment. Whom do I contact? In about five days the magazine hits the stands, so I assume I should've gotten mine by now.

I post this here because I sent Paizo an email about three months ago regarding a magazine that came to me damaged. No one reponded to that email, and no one responded to my follow-up.

I am the king of foolish questions, but, ever since I first read about them in the G-1-2-3 module, I've been calling them Dr-o (long O) elves. Is it drow as in blow or drow as in plow? Anyone know? What brings this to the forefront is I've started reading the Salvatore books and the word is on every other page.

I'm trying to decide where to situate Haranshire (the Night Below) in Greyhawk, any suggestions?

(Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules, GameMastery Cards Subscriber)

I have been kicking around an idea for a while now--one I'm sure has come up more than once--that involves creating a series of adventures based upon the old black and white monster movies. Much of the work is rather easy: werewolves, dracula, the mummy, etc.--however, I am dissatisfied with the idea of using a construct for Frankenstein's monster. I also don’t subscribe to the way Hollywood has portrayed the creature, though, I must admit, that Van Helsing did a fairly good job of it.

So, I thought I’d ask you all what you would do to create stats for the Creature—he isn’t undead, he’s not a mindless construct, and, while he is living, he seems more than “human.” In Shelley’s book, she seems to suggest that he might be immortal, or, at the very least, long lived—though sterile. He is highly intelligent, somewhat compassionate—though very angry at his liminal status—seemingly unaffected by the elements (most pointedly, lightning and cold—though, the lightning might be part of the movie lore. I don’t think Victor ever really goes into detail about what he did to create the creature).

Any suggestions?

Oh, and if Dungeon or Dragon wants to do an article—I call dibs!!! :)
