I do think PFS has gotten harder in the time I've played, and not for the better. I enjoy playing characters that are fun but not super optimized, and these days I don't feel comfortable playing at a table where I'm the only frontline fighter or there's no healer. I don't get to play very frequently, Pathfinder isn't a 'hobby' as much as a thing that I do every now and then when there's nothing else going on. I know very well that many people I play with are the same way, but I'd venture most of us who play that way don't post on this forum, since the very nature of a forum kind of self selects for people who play frequently. Turning it into a murderfest is a great way to take those of us who get a level 5 character in a year of play to simply walk away from the game.

Obviously we spend less money and are less of Paizo's target audience, but I think flexibility should be key. The number of encounters I've played in the current season that required a party that was dead centre of the range we should have been plus someone playing way down so that we could overcome some ridiculous defences of the BBEG that we otherwise weren't optimized for has been kind of crazy.

Also: Dear Authors: Please stop giving everything Darkness, it turns encounters into a slogfest and every module I've played where something casts darkness involves getting out of a gaming store an hour late.

I actually genuinely don't get this persistent obsession with the Kitusne, it seems like a super weird choice for everyone to get fixated on.

As a spontaneous caster, I can't recommend this enough: Summon Monster. Every level of Summon Monster has at least one utility function, and there may be more if you're able to get creative. While the Fiendish template isn't a perfect fit, I'm not sure if PFS allows you to summon Anarchic monsters. I also seem to remember there's some method down the line of making your summons even more "extra-planar" although right now I can't find it.

It may have more utility, but it does seem kind of like trying to cram it in there where it doesn't really fit otherwise with the concept for the sake of power. I'm not setting out to make the most efficient or balanced character, I'm setting out to make someone hilariously fun who may or may not survive his first adventure but follows his story and theme as closely as possible. I have balance and optimization with another character. :)

And really, what's a Lovecraftian cultist without his Things That Should Not Be Known following him around, at least later on in life?

Lovecraftian.

Stonecunning played at my table of Quest for Perfection Part I on his wedding day. Dude, are you crazy!?

Which is crazier, PFS at a local con with my best man or spending time hiding from a gaggle of bridemaids in the same house?

Seriously, we've been given our answer and while I realize that it isn't the answer that everyone wanted to hear, can I suggest we move on to something else and leave the poor dead horse alone? In fact, let's give him a weeks rest before we start flogging him again huh?

We were told we have an answer. We were also told we were welcome to keep discussing it (though nothing would change). There's no need to repeatedly tell people to stop having a discussion because the devs have set something in stone, since while they absolutely have the final say they are not the only people playing the game.

Hearing the perspectives of other players is just as interesting (actually, more so) than hearing commandments of devs (which we all obviously have to abide by regardless of our opinions).

Been playing organized play since the early early days of the RPGA, and I have to admit this is actually the only place I've found Pathfinder more restrictive than the RPGA was.
PFS is super restrictive about this kind of thing, to me it seems that the community is mor restrictive than the actual FAQ. I don't know if that comes from the leadership or from the general attitude if the more elite DMs/players though.

This is kind of the impression I'm getting as well. Nothing in the PFS FAQ looks more restrictive than anything the RPGA ever put out, but there's a lot of people harping on RAW so religiously that it actually takes out some of the roleplaying flexibility in a needless way.

If I sit down at a table with someone who says to me "Somewhere in my characters past there was a touch of an outsider, and from her tunic sprouts two small growth of poorly developed and useless wings" my response is going to be, in character "What's with those things coming out of your back!?" not "YOU'RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO THAT HOW DARE YOU THIS IS PFS WE HAVE STANDARDS!"

I've gone through airport security with a wheelie bag full of basalt and andesite. Boy do they hate that at the X-ray when it shows up opaque and they insist on lifting it up themselves to inspect it.

Let's assume a 100lbs chunk of basalt for simple availability. That's 3.0g/cm3 averaged for basalt, which means we're looking at 45,359 g per 100lbs.

Since v=m/d and the math for that is relativey straightforward, you're looking at a .53~ cubic foot chunk of basalt. Are you telling me tracking down one of those?
