Background:

Spoiler:
Stefnir started life out as a normal little boy. The 3rd son, and 5th child out of 9 fathered by Ogmundr Fyirdsson, a high ranking druid in the town of "Insert Location". He learned at an early age some of the intricacies of the tight bond with nature, and seemed destined to follow this path, much like his idolized older brothers...but something happened along the way.

While his siblings enjoyed the company of animals, Stefnir wasn't so sure. he found them bearable, and certainly didn't fear them, but he had no great love for them. He respected them and the spirits within them, but felt no great calling to be with them. Neither was he crazy about the plants and herbs that his father and siblings found so fascinating. he was a very quick child, and learned all the properties, and identities of them, but was to be honest a little bored by them. He didn't feel challenged, and was in fact searching for more out of life.

What he did love however was the wild power of nature...the howling winds, and vicious surf of the ocean. The raging torrents of water coming down the rivers during the melting season, even the slow but eventual approach of the ice wall, as it slowly devoured the land. These things fascinated a young Stefnir.

When he turned thirteen years old his father took him on a quest into the wilds. He was as surprised as Stefnir that he seemed to have no talent for calling his wild companion. He knew his son was intelligent, and a good student, and he sensed a wild power within him, but knew his training was beyond his means. But he knew someone who could help. He took Stefnir and headed up the coast towards the cold lands. There they survived the intense cold, and wind of the far north, and Ogmundr could see that Stefnir not only survived in this climate but thrived.

Finally they arrived at a small cave on a cliff overlooking the ocean. There was a small spiral of smoke drifting from above the cave entrance, and Ogmundr removed a shell from his pouch and blew on it making a horrendous noise. a few minutes later a man dressed head to foot in furs climbed from the cave. After a moments hesitation Ogmundr and the man fiercely hugged each other, patting each other on the back like long lost brothers...which in fact they were. That night in this seaside cave, as the wind moaned outside, and the ocean crashed below, a small blue lightning bolt was tattooed on Stefnir's cheek, and he became the apprentice to his unknown until now uncle Talus The Storm Warden.

Years passed and Stefnir learned much. Finally his uncle told him it was time to make his own way in life. He had taught him what he need to know, and must learn the remainder of his destiny on his own.

So here he sits today, leaving on a cursed ship. Making his own destiny.
