the most important aspect is to KNOW YOUR PLAYERS. that having been said, I ran this campaign for my group and it remains as one their most memorable campaigns as i added many personal touches as someone versed in the history of piracy

1: hurricane blows our party fighter into an enemy to kill him/it
2: alchemist performs 'bombsei' forgets to ignore his own square and is promptly launched across city from the concussive blast
3: samurai rolls a 1 followed by a 20, gm deems he hits a post instead of enemy with his katana, but crits the post, lodging his katana in it.
4: character gets a cohort from a deck of many things, proceeds to load him down with all his equipment, then cohort dies from the very first swing in the next combat.

6 people marked this as a favorite.

I submit for you the following: back in 3.5 I played an insane gnome artificer who had a penchant for coming up with crazy devices without thinking them through. to this end I kept a notebook of ideas, and when the party provided inspiration I wrote them down, now matter how absurd. These are the best.
-remote control terrorist dynamite vest
-boots of boot to the head
-nuclear brewery
-theme music broadcaster
-rotary nuclear artillery
-gnome of gnomish gnoming with double gnome gnoming gnoming
-button of something terrible
-button of something terribly useful
-ever-empty mug
-mechanical flying pants
-misgnomer buckler
-STEEV, the Strategic Target Evaluation and Execution Vehicle
-unskewererer of gnomes
-toast, the nth dimension of beer
-the get down from-er
-the beer deeper-er
-waste reclamation redistributor
-(de)(re)(un)(pro)(dis)(super)(quad)(triple)(pre)(post)gnomeulator
-racket launcher
-jellificater
-stab-o-matic
-exploding door
these are just a few, there were 298 all together

could avoid rending combat path, but love the concept of a sound combatant that just looses it and rages, like going blood drunk, just forgets about weapons and goes at it with what he's got.

Dark Archive

Thinking barbarian(invulnerable rager) focused on unarmed combat/beast totem/rending feat path
