Of all of the varied, thoughtful, and intelligent viewpoints I've seen from every side of the debates on this forum, wishing ill on Paizo like this is the one position that I truly cannot comprehend.

When I say something like this I mean the opposite, I hope that Piazo hears what I am hearing from people in the USA and around the world and how they are saying they are going to spend their money.

Why? In general, even if we do not play any version of PF most of us agree that a strong Paizo and an excellent game from them will make the hobby better in the long run.

MDC

I hear you and I like paizo.

But I feel too much that the playtest/pf2nd is riding too much on the coattails of pathfinder 1st and paizo is making a product that the fans have voiced disappointment of hoping the fans will buy it anyway.

I am a huge avid pathfinder player.
I run PFS scenarios, several gm stars, endorse the game, dm specials.
I've put much time into the game, time I consider well spent.
I love this game so much
But with the playtest I feel that I am losing my favorite game.
People in my city (a large city) are falling off, we had days when we needed a GM or two on standby just for overfill.
Now we have weeks where not enough players show to make one table.
I do not like the direction of the playtest and people around me are feeling the same way.
I understand feedback was to make a better game but I feel the feedback is not being minded.
I the people in our PFS community can just keep playing the 1st as if nothing changed but the lack of the paizo support hurts.

I know others may feel differently I'm just stating where I am coming from.

That why I suggest +1(1/2Level)
This way your level will not over come your bonuses or penalties until a much higher tier

Changing the proficiency numbers

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

With the playtest being so hard to get that edge I don't see how well we can play with PC at different levels. A 5th level fight playing with a 1st level cleric, the cleric will have a hard time playing the game. And this can be common as the PFS has their tiers of play. They can't have a tier for every level.

As a solution I suggest the proficiency bonus be half the PC's level. This makes the difference not so large between levels. Or even when fights foes levels higher. You'll still get all of your bonuses to still but the bonuses you have will matter more as they won't started becoming more than your key attribute until level 8 as opposed to level 4.

I hope Paizo makes a good game.
For the most part I’m not a fan of the playtest so far and I can think of 3 things that could totally fix it.
But I feel that paizo has a set game plan and it won't deviate too much from the feedback.
That is why I'm looking at 2nd/playtest as an entirely different game.
I don't know if 1st is genuinely better or if this is just nostalgia, but it is obvious that we are losing A LOT of customizing in character creation and that's my biggest bother
But again I'll see it as a different game, I'll still keep participating in the playtest, but if 2nd ed is what I've see so far my groups probably going to stick with 1st

The stat buy feels too cookie cutter
Everyone was almost promised an 18 in either way but this system is too cookie cutter.
I suggest 80 points to spend on attributes, nothing below 8 or above 18 before racial stats. And having feat prerequisites have odd numbers so that some of these characters have not the same stats as everyone else to fit the current cookie cutters

Is this a typo

Twin takedown:

Make 2 Strikes against your hunted target, one with each of the required
weapons. (The multiple attack penalty applies normally.) The second
Strike takes a –2 circumstance penalty if the weapon doesn’t have
the agile trait.

Because the penalty is already there for a 2nd attack and it gets worse for not being an agile weapon.
Worst case is
1st Action +X,-7
2nd Action -12,-19
3rd Action -24,-31

I don't think it's too hard especially with the spell points system.
2 suggestions
1. Let sorcerers use spell points to cast spells. Like how clerics get channel energy to cast heal. Sorcerers can use their spell points to case heighted spells using their spell points.
2. Bring back the arcanist powers and allow the sorcerer to spend spell points there.

It's not a fair trade off.

As far as the vancian system, if you play correctly you have a wide variety of spells. And I've seen the system played incorrectly too many times when players are not logging their spells and when the DM ask what they are going to case players are spontaneously casting from the core rulebook.

I was looking at playing a device sorcerer as a healer but I see that at 1st level.
They both get the same amount of spells.
They both get powers with their powers.
.... clerics get channel energy at 3 plus cha!!!
I see no fair trade for that.
Yes there is the anathema, but you can choose the anathema and you can cherry select the one to your play style but the 2 classes "div sorc" vs cleric the cleric has a huge perk.
Am is missing some thing? I really would like to know.

Shield Rule from redit Pregen

Redit Shield spoiler:
You snap your shield into place to deflect a blow. Your shield prevents you
from taking an amount of damage up to its Hardness—the shield takes
this damage instead, possibly becoming dented or broken. If the shield
takes damage equal to or exceeding its Hardness (5), the shield takes a
Dent. If the item takes damage equal to or greater than twice its Hardness
(10) in one hit, it takes 2 Dents. The shield can take only 1 Dent without
becoming broken. A second Dent causes it to become broken, though it
can still be repaired. If the shield would take a Dent or become broken
while already broken, it is destroyed beyond salvage

Based on this, if a shield is hit with 6 damage 3 times then that shield is destroyed. This is almost easier than sundering the shield, in 3 strikes the job is done with less damage. This means you'll be going through more shields than quivers of arrows.

I'd rather suggest taking a number of dents equal to the hit points of the shield.

I second that , I understand that this may not be the book for "no armor" options but there are of classes/archetypes that have cool features when they do not have armor. But these features really don't even out when compared to people having armor or the scale of people upgrading armor.

I understand that there are some feats, shield of swings or expertise, that allow you to gain dodge bonuses but I'd like to see more. Maybe some that allow gaining a dodge bonus without paying with your offense. May be requiring a move action, or allowing one stat to be added when not wearing armor, or just the feat slot alone being enough.

Again, I understand that this may not be the book for "no armor" options, I'm just throwing that out.

-- Something like the rituals from 4th ED. This was the ability to produce spell effects during downtime but to use time instead of spending spell slots. (Example, when interrogating the captured NPC rather than spending a spell slot to cast zone of truth spends 30 minutes and some inexpensive components to create the spell effect)

I think there is a pretty good amount of people that want the weapon finesse/quarterstaff combo, me included. I thought this would have already been added in the Ultimate Combat since it added an eastern ninja/kung-fu style where we would have that spinning bow-staff style fighting that we've seen in many karate movies. But as of yet I have not seen this style in 3.5 or pathfinder. Maybe the melee toolbox may have this other wise keep hoping for the future....

On that note I think the Bo staff should be errata have the weapon finesse feat since it is basically a quarterstaff but instead of being a simple or martial weapon it is an exotic weapon and only adds +1 to defense when fighting defensively. I don't think that warrants taking the exotic proficiency

Longbow Cost
-==- Laura and Arnold get stuck on islands and make awesome longbows but to get one in PF you are spending 75gp for the long bow and 30gp for the short my suggestion is create another weapon "rough longbow" this will be less than 15gp for the long and 7 for the short, that damage will be 1D6 for the long and 1d4 for the short, the range will be 30 for the long and 20 for the short.

Spontaneous castings
---- Sorcerers and wizards should have differences since they are 2 different classes but the ability to not have to preselect spells per day does not make up for the fact that lean spells slower, cast metamagic slower, and limited inventory of spells. I've played many games where people playing prepared castings are thumbing through the corebook on their turn to figure out what spell they are going to cast. I suggest a rule that all spontaneous spells have a percent chance of not consuming a spell slot. Or use a spell point system.

A gauntlet that that by itself hasn't any magical attributes but can be upgraded with the weapon special abilities. After being upgraded the gauntlet doesn't have the abilities but the caster can add these abilities to their spells, spell-like abilities or supernatural abilities. When enhancements are made to attacks for spells that do not require an attack roll, only then the enhancement is added to the dc of the spell.

For example a druid can use gauntlet to make a +1 holy flame blade, or a wizard can make a fireball that has +1 to dc and has 1d6 shocking, or a sorcerer can make their claws +1 Unholy.

The second Item is a rod of spell hastening
-- It is like a rod of quicken spell but rather than making a spell a free action it makes the spell a move equivalent action and should cost a lot less than a quicken rod

Since at this moment Pathfinder miniatures are not for battle but for role playing the miniatures should reflect aspects of the Campaign Setting. For example, at this moment I do not think there is a miniature with a starknife and that looks to be a common weapon in the campaign settings and not just females with star knifes. Varisians, shonti, hell knights, even Linnorm. My main issue is that even if I am not playing Golarion I can still use these figs, unlike the box of warforged that are waiting to be golem proxies.+

Another thing is just not recycled poses and fig. People uses a variety of weapons , quarterstaffs, kukri, sorcerer/barbarian claw attacks, earthbreakers, lance (un-mounted), trident, double Axe ( non-orc), pistol ( some may sigh), Dogslicer , Lucerne hammer, Dwarven maulaxe, Dwarven dorn-dergar, and various new items in pathfinder that are not already found in DDM.
