the only thing that worries me about that idea is the trust point loss. its a great idea and in truth I will probably use it. I just wonder if the trust point system and some of the other ideas of this volume weren't last minute... again great idea though. definitely helps with the horror feel.
I have to ask after reading the haunting is the trust mechanic implemented the way it was intended to work? there are far more ways to lose points than to gain them. In fact after doing some number crunching the party is going to end up with less points than it started. #1 reason is the prison will take more than one day and if the party is in the prison then they aren't helping or rping with the town. thus its a net loss of one trust point per day. so in essence they are being punished for doing what they are supposed to be doing. also it puts too much stress on getting the prison cleared and may lead to party trying to tackle it before they are ready. basically is there something that got left out or forgotten or am I not interpreting how it works correctly?

This is something we frequently do - the last villiain, the big bad of the adventure, or a major battle at the end of the adventure is usually shown in the last half-page art of the adventure. I was just making sure that it was him. as I said before the other four have art that is named and gives a good description but there was only that image and it could honestly be an arcane skeleton. also were does it say his legs are broken and he drowned after his flesh burned off. what it says in the end just before the stats for the haunt is how he was engulfed in flames and basically ran panicked into the oubliette and died from the fall. also the oubliette flooded after the fire. also since that last piece is of him what is that symbol on his skull? is it just artistic flavor?
whether or not the info can be attained for free. the fact remains that the consumer is unaware of the need for such info until after purchase. and I have players in my group and in friends groups who reside without internet or are unable to access internet easily. it also brings up the point that I was under the impression that the APG and GMG were optional. it was my understanding that the only information from a book you would need was from core and bestiary 1. that is to say that a splat book would never be needed for another splat book
my question then is shouldn't the text above in the description of the book mention the need for the APG. right now as I posted previously it says "The Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 2 is the second indispensable volume of monsters for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and serves as a companion to the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook and Pathfinder RPG Bestiary. This imaginative tabletop game builds upon more than 10 years of system development and an Open Playtest featuring more than 50,000 gamers to create a cutting-edge RPG experience that brings the all-time best-selling set of fantasy rules into the new millennium." no were does it say anything about the APG. I only bring this up because I know people who will be agitated at this being that they do not use the APG.
so just to clarify the Bestiary 2 mentions the need for the APG yet no were in the description is it listed as so. in fact the only thing the blurb says about other books is this. "The Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 2 is the second indispensable volume of monsters for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and serves as a companion to the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook and Pathfinder RPG Bestiary. This imaginative tabletop game builds upon more than 10 years of system development and an Open Playtest featuring more than 50,000 gamers to create a cutting-edge RPG experience that brings the all-time best-selling set of fantasy rules into the new millennium." I only ask because I was sure that it was stated that nothing would require the need for any book other than the core rule book and maybe Bestiary 1. I only ask because though I have the pdf of the APG many people I know do not have that book but are getting this one.
actually Jason has already said that vital strike is a standard action.

I've noticed this too and it disturbed me. mostly due to the fact that another area of gaming went through a similar trend. I am talking about shovel ware and gaming. For those that don't know shovel ware is soft ware such as a game that is released before it is done and then fixed (sometimes) with patches. this trend in publishing is following a similar fashion and I am watching it like a hawk. It is my hope we aren't going down the same road with printed material.
actually elves still get it in pathfinder. from the PFPRD. "Secret Doors: Disguised as a bare patch of wall (or floor or ceiling), a bookcase, a fireplace, or a fountain, a secret door leads to a secret passage or room. Someone examining the area finds a secret door, if one exists, on a successful Perception check (DC 20 for a typical secret door to DC 30 for a well-hidden secret door). Elves have a chance to detect a secret door just by casually looking at an area. its also in the core under secret doors p414.its just not listed under their racial abilities for some reason.
except that the description in the spell school clearly states that you only get the bonus to stats if you change size. "If a polymorph spell causes you to change size, apply the size modifiers appropriately, changing your armor class, attack bonus, Combat Maneuver Bonus, and Stealth skill modifiers. Your ability scores are not modified by this change unless noted by the spell" I get the fact that you would get the +2 natural armor (medium in beast shape I) but the text clearly states that your states are not modified by this change (IE change in size) unless noted by the spell. if you do not change size you do not change stats. if this were not the case then the last sentence "Your ability scores are not modified by this change unless noted by the spell" should have read like this "Your ability scores are not modified unless noted by the spell"
but if we go with the specific spell and not the general statements then you would not get the natural attacks of the animal since neither wild shape nor any of the beast/dragon/etc. shape spells say you get them. they only say you get the listed abilities if the creature has them. I see were my confusion is coming from. people see that under the magic section under transmutation in the polymorph section it states the when you are effected by a polymorph spell you get the natural attacks of the creature. then they are ignoring the part were it states you only change your bonuses if you change size. Ie. it would seem people are only paying attention to what gives them bonuses. I thank you for your help I understand how it works now.
"If a polymorph spell causes you to change size, apply the size modifiers appropriately, changing your armor class, attack bonus, Combat Maneuver Bonus, and Stealth skill modifiers. Your ability scores are not modified by this change unless noted by the spell." this is both PFRPD and how it is written in the core. it states IF a polymorph spell causes you to change size. see this is were I am confused because I keep seeing how most people say you get the bonus even though that is contrary to what the RAW says.
okay thank you one more thing it states that if the spell changes your size then you adjust your stats according to the spell. if a medium druid wild shapes into a medium creature i am assuming they do not get the +2 str and +2 nat armor because they didn't change size. is this correct because that is how it reads?
3. The number of attacks is dependent on the animal chosen? Ie, do you get the number of attacks of the animal (so if it only has tail - then one attack, if it has bite/talons/claw, then up to 4 attacks)? I am confused by this since no were in wild shape nor in the beast/dragon/plant/elemental shape spells does it say you get the attacks of the animal. I am curious about this since I may have a druid in my upcoming game.
i agree that pathfinder explores the "shades of gray" in morality. its just hard to pull that off in a game that quantifies evil and good as absolutes. hence the reason none of my players will play a paladin. its just to frustrating. don't get me wrong I love what you guys do its just been hard to get some people to play the game when as the OP said these last few paths have had points that have made my paladin and neutral good players, heck even my chaotic good players groan. yes I know I can change things and i often do but my players still don't understand why the paths seem to always meet this crossroads. especially ones that require some pretty in depth work a rounds. (looking at you savage tide and rune lords.)
I have been reading over the pathfinder core rule book for a while and plan on running as soon as I finish my current game. (curse of the crimson throne.) I am wondering if there is going to be some errata released any time soon and if so in what format. I only ask because I see some things that are a little obscure in the writing and I have been following the threads and see the question arising. thank you for taking the time to answer and thank you for PFRPG.
Okay so this was my idea. please if you all would be so kind and let me know. Unhallowed Spoiler: Description
when dark rituals to dark gods are performed it is the victim that some times becomes the vessel of their foul hate. When the victim of a sacrificial ritual is not precisely what the ritual calls for, such as not being a virgin when the ritual calls for it, the goal of the ritual may still be obtained but a dark pact is made. When such a victim is sacrificed in the the area of dark magic there is a small chance that the dark gods will raise them as an Unhallowed.
Powers and abilities. An Unhallowed is constantly surround by an aura of fear that causes even the most brave to cower.

The amount of enhancement bonus is dependent on the the metal used to craft the dragon. Copper, silver, or gold. Conferring a +2, +4, or +6 respectfully. Once the arm has been moved it can not be be moved again for for a minimum of 24 hours. These bonuses are temporary for the first 24 hours after that they become permanent. If the wielder choses to change the chosen stone he loses all bonuses gained from the previous selection.

This is were I am confused you see it say in intimidate under demoralize that you use this skill to cause your opponents to become shaken for a number of rounds. it then also states that you can only threaten opponents in this way if they are in 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. both times its states opponents not opponent implying that it effects all opponents in 30 feet. this is were I am confused because no were does it state that the demoralize effect of the intimidate skill effects only one target and since it doesn't it makes me wonder if their is something missing in the dazzling display feat.
so my question is the Holy Champion class feature of the paladin reads as follows Holy Champion (Su): At 20th level, a paladin becomes a conduit for the power of her god. Her DR increases to 10/evil. Whenever she uses smite evil and successfully strikes an evil outsider, the outsider is also subject to a banishment, using her paladin level as the caster level (her weapon and holy symbol automatically count as objects that the subject hates). After the banishment effect and the damage from the attack is resolved, the smite immediately ends. In addition, whenever she channels positive energy or uses lay on hands to heal a creature, she heals the maximum possible amount. My quest is does the smite end whether the banishment works or not. I only ask because a player of mine thinks it only ends the smite if the creature is banished. thank you for your feed back.
so my question is Dazzling display lets me demoralize all enemies in 30 feet as a full round action as stated below Prerequisite: Weapon Focus, proficiency with the selected weapon. Benefit: While wielding the weapon in which you have Weapon Focus, you can perform a bewildering show of prowess as a full-round action. Make an Intimidate check to demoralize all foes within 30 feet who can see your display. while the intimidate skill lets me do it as a standard action as stated below Demoralize: You can use this skill to cause your opponents to become shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target's Hit Dice + the target's Wisdom modifier. If you are successful, the target is shaken for 1 round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten opponents in this way if they are within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. Is their something I am missing. I remember in the beta that if your attack bonus was higher than you intimidate skill you could substitute it. please some clarity on this would help me. thank you.
yes the channel energy does state that you need to be able to Present the holy symbol. so I would take it that the cleric must be able to show the holy symbol with pride to those who he is channeling for or against. since you are able to cast spells while grappled i say you can channel energy. you simply raise you arm at the elbow or wrist and call out your gods name. also dragon moon I was said fighter, you made the right call so don't sweet it you ran a good game hope to see you next year.

Please be as blunt and honest as possible. I can only learn from this. Thank you in advance for your time. Divine symbol of faith
description The Divine symbol of faith is a master crafted holy symbol. For all intents and purpose it functions just as any other holy symbol with three additional features. The first is whenever the wielder uses the divine symbol of faith as her focus for channeling positive energy she gains a bonus of 2D6 to her positive energy burst. Secondly using a command word she may use the divine symbol of faith to cast the spell searing light (CL 5) 3/day. Lastly the wielder may, with the use of a command word, cast the spell consecrate (CL 3) once per day with the divine symbol of faith as the focal point. construction Requirements:Craft wondrous Item, searing light, consecrate. In addition the holy symbol must have positive energy channeled into it during the creation by a 3rd level cleric/6th level paladin. Cost: 9,200
Yes, I too would like to thank the judges and Paizo for this contest. It has rekindled the creative spark that I had feared died. I've been writing so much I didn't have time to post other than this. If nothing else I walk away from this experience with my imagination alive and screaming once more. Thank you again.
I see that the monk can take the medusa's wrath feat as one of his/her bonus feats at 10th level. now my question is can you use medusa's wrath with your flurry of blows or just normal attacks. the only reason i ask is because at 11th level their is no reason to have it because flurry of blows gives you the same number of attacks at the same bonuses, and can be used on an enemy without them needing to be staggered, flat footed, and so on. so i guess what i am asking is if an enemy is staggered say from the gorgon feat or just plain flatfooted can i use medusa's wrath in combination with my flurry of blows? thank you in advance for your help.
we recently tried a house rule that worked out very nicely. we changed the DR mechanic so that instead of DR the creature had regeneration equal to the original DR value. the regeneration healed all damage inflicted unless the weapon was of the appropriate type, alignment, or magic. this may seem like much but our fighter was able to still kill the monsters we did this with. the regeneration simply made it a more challenging fight. this allows the creature to still be beaten but gives a individual who is prepared an advantage. (as the DM it has also allowed me to make some very interesting and memorable encounters.) just a suggestion.
