Appearance
Sollus is a tall slender young man, who affects a smallish beard on his chin, in a vain attempt to appear less like the gangly awkward youth that he so recently was. His long spidery fingers dance and fidget, touching things and re-arranging them unconsciously, betraying his lack of confidence in certain situations, and yet he becomes decisive and even brusque when working with a patient, each item from his healer's kit precisely placed just so. His tendency to fuss with items on his person (and, occasionally, an item that was not his own) can prove exasperating to those around him, as he clicks things together, or rearranges items obsessively. Sollus usually has a fairly gray complexion, dark from his mother's blood, but pale from lack of sun. His eyes are dark brown, and he tries to keep his caesar-cut black hair over his ears, because he thinks that they stick out too much.

Backstory
Sollus was born to a native father (of primarily Chelaxian blood) and a full-blooded Varisian mother. His father had always had a tendency to excess, and Sollus threw himself into his studies, in an attempt to get further from the man. His mother seemed an unlikely Varisian, coldly practical, running the house efficiently, in the absence of any consistent leadership from her wastrel husband, but things turned for the worse, and Sollus was forced to leave his studies to return home to tend his father when one of his many vices caught up with him. Deeply mired in a life-threatening addiction, that not only was ravaging his health, but had devastated the families finances and left them in ruin, Sollus spent over a year watching his father die. No matter how they tried to keep him away from the drugs that were destroying him, he always seemed to find a way to sneak another dose, and, worse, it seemed that the thrice-damned pesh dealers were sneaking the drug to him, as Sollus would occasionally find a package freshly stashed away under a stone in the garden, or tucked away on an upstairs patio. Forced to spend more and more time at home, futilely attempting to stop the man in his quest for self-destruction, Sollus lost his chance to join the Acadamae, and his mother was forced to sell her stake in the family business (in his prime, his father had been a reputable factor who handled many trading concerns, and owned several warehouses). His father's passing seemed to shatter his mother, and she told her son that she wished to return to the family she had left behind to live with his father. For the first time in Sollus' memory, his mother was wearing the bright colors of her people, and produced from a dust-covered rucksack in the attic a deck of Harrow cards, performing her first reading in 20 years for her now grown son. The reading did not speak of journeys or adventure, but of stability and towers of stone, and Sollus chose to interpret that as counsel to remain in Korvosa (although, in truth, he sought only justification for the choice his heart had already made, and he was never sure whether or not to regard the Harrow deck as superstition or truth). Sollus declined the invitation to leave with his mother, and meet the Varisian family he had never known, instead taking advantage of an offer from his father's business partner (who was feeling quite pleased with himself, having just 'inherited' his partner's half of the business at no great cost to himself), and accepted to join the partner's son in joining the clergy of Abadar.

Ostensibly, Sollus, known to be a diligent student, and a bit of a stickler for doing things by the rules, was supposed to keep his patron's son out of trouble, but the young man left the temple to become an artist, and Sollus did not endanger his own position by spending much time trying to dissuade his 'friend.' As a result, he finds that he has made an enemy in the young man's father, who feels that he has betrayed his promise to 'watch after the boy.' He hardly needed another excuse to avoid the docks, and the warehouses that used to be his fathers, and so he simply avoids that section of the city, if at all possible, quite reasonably concerned that the angry father might have some of the dockworkers in his employ rough him up...

Advancement
The battered Harrow deck his mother left him will become more and more relevant to his life, and he may eventually enter the Harrower Prestige Class.
