Hello.

In our Skulls and Shackles, I'm the Pirate lord now in charge of the Isle of Empty Eyes.
(It's a 1 DM, 1 Player Campaign)
The Pirate Lord in question is a Fighter/Wizard/Bladesinger with the Practiced Caster feat, and has a dozen lesser wizards in his employ, as well as another PC wizard.
He also managed to recruit Isabella "Inkskin" Locke, rescue her daughter, and her alignment has shifted to neutral, and is moving towards good. (Redemption arc)

Thanks to several side quests, and having up to 1 month before the anniversary of the regata to have the 'Pirate Party'
I put alot of money into the Island.
Using the Ultimate Campaign Rules, the island now has the following -

A very large inn, so sailors can sleep in comfortable beds if the want.
A large tavern
Granary
Brewery
Mill
Market
Pleasure House (Gambling and Pleasure-people)
Water Front
The old Cheliax Fort was also renovated, and the Cyclops ruins as well.
Total cost was about 120,000 from me personally.

The Isle is now known to be open for business, and the crews under me are going out of theri way to let people know about it.

So, the question is - how do we figure out how much money the island is actually making?

Thanks to my finding of the Curio (a base that is about 10 miles inside the Eye), I have a deal with Mercane that runs the place (Big Blue).
He buys any plunder I send him (via a teleportation circle) for 1000 gp/ton, and more for other items
My pirate crews (we're tracking the ships individually), bring cargo in, sell it to me at 600 gp/ton, and I resell to 'Big Blue' for 1000 gp/ton, and keep the difference.

Now, Pirate not associated with me, and merchants, are starting to show up at the Island.

Also, the Pirates Council Meeting where the idea of putting up statues of the Hurricane King occured, and that passed, so longer term, people are going to have trouble selling anywhere but my island.

So, the question is - How do we determine how much money the island is generating outside of the Pirate Lord and his fleets' activities.

What I'm thinking is, rolling for random encounters using the tables we've been using, but instead of

01 - 70 no Encounter/monster encounter
71 - 80 = Merchant Ship
91 - 100 = Pirate Ship

do it so it's
40 - 65 - Merchant Ship; Here to bring/sell supplies
66 - 100 - Pirate Ship; Here to sell plunder/buy supplies

Then roll for plunder, and calculate sales.

Assume the ship stays in port for a day or two to enjoy the facilities of the island, putting money into the businesses so they remain feasible/profitable.

Anyone have any suggestions?
The business system in Ultimate Campaign is to clunky for us, and the system from the DMG2 (WOTC 3.5) isn't really compatiable with a pirate setting, or the amount of money involved.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Simple enough question -

Is there anywhere in the rules that stays how many customers/clients/whatever some of the buildings can have?

i.e How many customers can a Tavern have at a time? What about an Inn? Dance Hall?
How many people can live in Tenament housing

etc.

Right now, the 'Command Crew' is level 7.
I'm wondering specifically about the Portable Hole because it has no limit in weight, just volume.

I'm going to recommend to the GM, that since a smuggler hold is 5x5x5 (125 cubic) and it takes 2 to hold a plunder point, that a Portable Hole could hold that.

We've been converting our plunder into gems, which in our campaigns are all used as currency and therefore sell at 1:1 instead of 1:2, so it's not a huge concern at the moment. I was thinking more long term.

I'm also going to look into enchanting the ship to increase it's internal volume. Got to be rules on that somewhere.....

Specifically, the ever Portable Holes.

So, it's a 6 foot diameter, 10' deep hole. That's roughly 282.74 feet.

And what other methods are there for increasing plunder/cargo capacity?

I'd like to see Paizo do the digital map routine with this. Program to make our own custom tile maps out of these. Print or display, would be awesome.
