I like the iconics. I've used them before as fill-in characters and for playtest. I'm not in favor of removing them and will miss them if they're cut. However, it won't change my enjoyment of the products, nor will it deter me from buying. In other words, I'll be ok.
But if you're intent on removing something and supplying 1-2 more pages of content, I'd be much happier if you ditched the ads. It galls me to no end that I'm paying for the privilege of being advertised to (for products I've generally already bought or have committed to buying by virtue of being a subscriber). I realize that I'm not the target for the ads and there is virtually no chance of them going away, but I'd still rather see the ads go than the iconics.

I had been eagerly awaiting the (estimated) August 4 release of the purchasable PDF version of the APG. I've noticed now that this version is no long listed under the Hardcover - has digital version been pulled / moved back?
I think the release got moved to the 5th to correspond with the APG's debut at Gencon.

Wolfthulhu wrote: Is there anything that prevents it from stacking with the other mentioned feats? I don't think so. Sharp Senses confers a racial bonus, while SF(Perception) and Alertness are both untyped. It should all stack nicely.

Perhaps having a high Perception is part of the character concept a player is shooting for. Also, it stacks with Skill Focus (Perception) and Alertness.

Garden Tool wrote: The attack resolves, and damn... the critter is resistant to slashing weapons. I then decide to make this a full-attack action, and I take my second attack with the shield in my off-hand. Like you said, this second attack is an off-hand attack, because I'm using a different weapon in a different hand. I don't like rule debates at the table, so if this happened in my home game, I'd be inclined to rule that you couldn't take that second attack with the off-hand weapon. The justification would be that you're already resolved your primary attack without the appropriate 2-weapon penalties, so you shouldn't be allowed to switch attack modes mid-turn.
I think the lesson here is that if you carry a weapon in each hand and plan on making a single attack with each one, you might as well take that 3rd attack as well. You're already paying the penalties for it and it might hit. :|

ctrvl wrote: Hello, I recently downloaded a number of Paizo PDFs and when I open them the header text for various sections doesn't display capital "A"s (the body text does with no problem). I'm using Preview on Mac OSX 10.6.4, does anyone know any workarounds for this?
Thanks in advance!
The short answer is to use a different PDF viewer. This issue has been brought up a bijillion times and it's just a failing (or rather a lack of robustness) in OSX/Preview.

My order is pending, so it shouldn't be long now.

My main gripe with Deadliest Warrior is that the answer is determined using a computer model, but there's absolutely no information given as to the fidelity of the model or any validation data that backs it up or anchors it to reality (this is the sort of thing I do for a living).
The only information I've found so far is that the model is derived from the mas combat simulator used in the "Great Battles of Rome" video game (and featured in a History Channel series of the same name). Basically, it's a video game mass combat model that's tweaked to feature 2 combatants. There's no evidence that there has been any real effort to anchor the results. This means at best, the model is a random number generator (Guy A wins, or Guy B wins). At worst, the result could be determined by the writers based on the result that gives the the most audience-compelling answer and the model data massaged to give that answer or tilting the scenario in one side's favor.
Given that most of the show features stabbing pig carcasses, smack talk, and fictitious "dramatic enactments," I have serious doubts that the "computer model" aspect is anything more than an after thought so that the show's producers can claim that the answer is computer-generated (and since computers are unbiased..... allow the audience to draw their own conclusions).

Again, anecdotal, but my preferred local BAM sees a constant turn-over in the PF material they carry.

IIRC, the print version art similar to the original basic set in that it is B&W "sketch" art (as opposed to the kind of full color art employed by companies like Paizo, WotC, CGL, etc.). Not to dis the art; it's fully appropriate and consistent, just nothing special by the current market standards.

If you're looking to replace the red box, you might check out Labyrinth Lord by Goblinoid Games. It's a pretty faithful recreation of the basic rules and they have a "advanced" compendium also.
They have "complimentary" downloadable rules without art for free. You can buy softcovers (with art) for a reasonable price.
I discovered LL when they sent me copies as ENnies submissions for the past year. As a big fan of OSR games, I thought they were pretty good.
Hope that helps.

:(
The question they have is if their vote went through or not and if they need to vote again.
The Ennies guys are aware of the problem. It's something with their ISP.
You can reload the voting page and try again. If your votes go through, you should get a "thanks for voting" message. If you try again and you get a "this IP has already voted" your votes have already been recorded.
Hopefully, this will get resolved soon.
Keep in mind, there's no hurry to vote. Polls are open until the 25th.

Bill Dunn wrote: Nominations will depend on competition and how many products the company submits for nomination, which could, in turn, depend on major product releases that probably aren't annual events in the first place. Having been involved in the ENnies for the last year, I can't stress how true the above is. A great deal depends on what gets submitted. Every year, we take a bunch of flak over this or that not being nominated, only to have to turn around and say that it was never submitted.
I like to think, despite all the complaints, that we put together a pretty darn good list of nominees this year. i encourage everyone to check out as many as you can, because there are some excellent products out there (and some missed getting nominations by razor-thin margins).

While your over at the ENnies voting on your favorite Paizo products, take a moment and vote for Mark Green for ENnies Judge 2011. I've posting over here at Paizo since shortly before WotC pulled the D&D license and Pathfinder was announced. I'm proud to call this my "home" board.
Thanks for the support and congrats on the nominations Paizo!

Thanks for coming over and commenting in this thread. It has been helpful.
Also, I want to say thanks for all the hard work you put into Star Wars Saga Edition. I'm currently running my home group through a modified Dawn of Defiance campaign. We're really digging the system. Plus, I've had the opportunity to review WotC's Star Wars submissions for the ENnies this year.
Lastly, excellent choice of avatar.

bugleyman wrote: Except, if you read the post, it kinda is 4.5, especially if you play a wizard. I waffle on whether this seems more like a dot-5 update to the rule set, OR if this is a way of WotC getting on the Old School Renaissance (OSR) band-wagon (a simplified game, defined party roles, boxed sets containing "everything you need to play," etc.).
Either way, it's an interesting update. I don't know how well Essentials will play at the same table with the "full version." I guess their trying to avoid the "basic" and "advanced" dichotomy.
