To what end go inside; should we not be helping those trapped in the rubble; or is there other pressing matters.

What is this place? Is supergirl here as well? I took the fallen hero to a medical facility.

"Pong's one of my team mates he turned up shortly after you took Johnny to the hospital, he's trying to find out whether that guy Supergirl fought off had any links to those who you fought at the Aquaduct," Skater added taking a good look round.

"I'll be sticking around a little longer before I head off to make sure my own neighbourhood's okay, you never know those goons might stick their heads out before I do call it a night," he muses.

I read the card and chuckle, then adopt a more serious continence.
hmm, i consider: a Martian who hunts men; what might that mean, curious, are martian real or is that an affectation, if there are Martians; how many are hear and what threat do they pose. Are Martians just lost fey hunters from Nephlehiem who have been separated by the closing of that gateway? curious, on the other hand this could be a trap by the forces that took down this guard station, police they call them here; so many names for guardians, its a wonder we can keep them all straight.

You hear the sound of someone skateboarding as you look at the site as a trio of youths pass you without even batting an eyelid as they race past.
"Guess Bats found you then?" a voice asks from above you.
Skater lowers himself back to the ground.
"Thats how I found this place, that and the fact I used to go hide up on the upper floor before my powers manifested," Skater reminisces.
"Guess you want to go inside?" Skater asks after a moment.

"You have a base, so your some sort of group, kinda like the Justice League?"

"Yes but we might have to go via a different route in case whoever ambushed us are looking out for us," Pong replies.

"Well don't worry about me, I'm not in the habit of following to see where your base is. I can respect the need for privacy."

"Maybe we ought to check out the police building after all we're only assuming this Baron blew it up there maybe others out there," Skater suggests looking at Supergirl.

"The police stations is in ruins. It appears as if the fire departments are already overworked fighting the fire. I don't see any superpowered villains and I don't believe there are any civilians in danger either. We should take a closer look to be certain. Does anybody here need a ride? By the way, does anyone here know what the curfew is for teens? I wouldn't want to run into trouble with the police."

"Subbasement? Most of the stuff there was mothballed!" Pong argues back.

"But it will at least do as a temporary base until Bats gets in contact and best of all those bad guys won't know where we're heading," Skater pointed out.

"Okay, okay," Pong finally agrees turning to Supergirl.
"We'll head over to the old disused museum district, its development was shelved when work began on the new police station so we should be able to pass undetected I'll lead the way," Pong explained as he inflates his body and begins bouncing heading to the right and away from the burning police station even as Skater levitates himself.

"We're heading off in that direction shouldn't take a couple of minutes," Skater explains as he heads after Pong.

"No offence but you're more powerful than anyone I've seen so far," Skater replies with an easy grin.
"Ummm...yea, its the costume. By the way, anyone know where I can get this fixed? (Holds up her ruined cape). I just don't look right without it."

"Mechimera is down," Pong mentions his face grim.
"Down how? I thought he was with Johnny..." Skater begins to ask.
"Who's Mechimera and Johnny?

"Found him near the site where we almost bought it, couldn't get any sense from him so I had to drop him off back at the base," Pong explained.
"So," Pong says after a moment,"Since when can you fly?" he asks.
"Fly? I was just using the nearby buildings to pull me along, I lost my skateboard to a flying pyromaniac Supergirl here took down, I've been trying to catch my breath ever since and when we got here somebody encased the area in darkness..." Skater explained somewhat chagrined.
"Darkness! Was it Johnny?" Pong asked.
"There was someone in the darkness screaming for help, maybe it was this Mechimera or Johnny. I'm thinking that's who the magic man flew away with, but I can't be certain. I know he was trying to help,"

"Don't know, I tried dropping magnetic discharges trying to get a response and I got electrocuted, I woke up over there a few minutes ago and have been trying to figure out where I was when the darkness sphere shrank and disappeared..." Skater replied pointing towards the building where he levitated out of.
"Supergirl," Skater turns to look at her,"Any idea who was behind that darkness sphere or who electrocuted me?" he asks her.
"Does the name Baron Mordo mean anything to you?"

"If you mean that magical guy, yea, we saw him fly that way (points) and he was carrying someone who was injured. Batman's around? He's hurt? We should find him, if anybody knows what's going on around here it would be him. Oh, I'm not sure what your name was (looking at Skater). This guy bounces, I guess you knew that, what do you do (looks down at his feet to see if he has ice skates, roller skates, roller blades or some such foot wear on). Gee. my name is kinda boring compared to you guys."

"Mechimera is down," Pong mentions his face grim.

"Down how? I thought he was with Johnny..." Skater begins to ask.

You have just seen Maelidek flying off carrying someone whom from your telescopic vision looks badly hurt and just off to the right it looks like Skater is levitating from a shattered building's rooftop and seems to be looking around as well.

There (points) is the magic guy and it looks like he's flying away with someone who's hurt pretty bad. Over there (points again) is another fellow I saw help me out. Lets get his attention."

"Pong? where's the others?" he asks after he notices your companion.

"Never mind that have you seen Bats?" Pong replies a little hastily.

"Yes I managed to get him to safety before leading the quartet that attacked us off down towards the port, she and two others drove them off before they took me down," Skater answers nodding to Supergirl.

"Any sign of that Maelidek or whatever he called himself or that other one the one with the earth control powers?" Skater asks Supergirl.

Skater levitating above the darkness has to concentrate to avoid falling into the darkness below.

Looking around he mutters to noone particularly,"Johnny, what is going on?"

I will help; tell me of this team of yours; what have you learned about the reason for the attack on the police station. So if you were defending it; then entail to us what you know of those sewing anarchy and civil unrest?

both the wonderous supergirl and myself have the ability to fly; need you aid to move or have you your own meathod of quick as locomotion?

"Wait! What Others?"

From where he's positioned he can clearly see where both fires' have broken out and aware that the others should have responded as soon as the first explosion had occurred so he may not have been the only one ambushed.

"Might need some help with this," he asks them below.

"Disc? Was that the vehicle they were firing those missiles from?" Skater asked looking up looking even more unsteady as Supergirl reappears.

"I don't know, when I came upon the scene I saw the fires, some flaming guy heading towards the aquaduct, a silver disc flying that direction as well. I thought I would try and sort the problem out. They were using the disc to fire missles? I was thinking that they were chasing the disc. Shows what I know. Oh, by the way, I'm Supergirl, who are you? Are you in need of medical attention?"

Using my x-ray vision I will scan the bodies of everyone present looking for injuries. Please let me know if I see any.

"That guy," the youth points to the man currently still unconscious on the ground,"was the one who ambsuhed me up on the roof, but it wasn't his fireballs that caused the explosion that I do know, I did see something following behind me but I had to get clear of them so I could get my boss into hiding so I could draw them off thats when a group of missiles passed me and blew up that connection to the freeway if I hadn't stopped when I did I'd have probably been caught in the blast as it was I only had a few moments to head down here when that battlesuit started blasting at me I don't know who they were but if they had been part of the same group they're lousy at teamwork thats the only reason I'm still standing at this point," he finishes as he stretched a hand towards the nearest puddle of water as something stirs and then he suddenly shoots up and hovers just above the top of the aquaduct.

"I better check on the others care to follow?" he asks.

I'll dust off my skirt. Once I feel like I got my full strength back I'll prepare to fly back to the others, as I leave the ground I Mumble to myself: "Witch!" Once I return to the aquaduct and see the others I say:

"Somebody blindsided me and she got away. Is everyone allright here? Where's the silver disc?"

As far as I know; I am with no one; neither side here; that heroic female and I and another; saw the destruction and the threat to life; we decided to intercede and figure out who is at fault after the fact; we know neither you nor they.

I am Maelidek; who are you and what is your explanation for what is going on here?

Skater then proceeds to get up but he's still unsteady and leans on the wall of the aquaduct for support.

Skater almost landed exhausted on the edge of the freeway.
It had felt like hours since he had been watching from the building top, when he had been almost bored to tears and freak luck had saved him from a fiery doom.
The maniac had swooped down upon him he had almost not spotted him but the corona of flames surrounding his attacker had made him step off the building using his power to levitate downwards even as the flash of flames passed harmlessly overhead.
He had been about to let the others know when the building Pong had helped Batman reached exploded...
It had been instinct but after seeing Pong blast past him at high speed his body inflated into a ball bouncing off the surrounding buildings and passing out of sight before he could even react he spotted Bats body heading for the ground and using his power he managed to grab him before accelerating clear of the debris.
Even then he had taken a knock or two fortunately not enough to trigger his other power but enough to leave him reeling.
He had barely reached the ground when his original attacker flew overhead and headed straight for them, he would have used the debris to drive him off but two other figures came into sight from the other end of the street, this wouldn't have ordinarily have worried him even in this neighbourhood, but the first was dressed in what looked like some fancy spandex battlesuit and the second... well the second was hovering...
Moving swiftly away from what he assumed was a group of supervillains he barely avoided the first of their attacks, if the fire wasn't bad enough the focused blasts of what looked like liquid nitrogen that froze various streetlights, cars and even buildings ironic as they were then promptly set on fire by the fiery flyer who seemed a little at odds with his comrades but they were definitely aiding each other as the hovering one kept up a monologue straight out of some sci fi movie claiming to be adapting to the targets' tactics which was right before "he" blew up the road in front forcing him to take the freeway.
He used the cover off the side to drop off Batman whilst they hesitated, when he poked above cover he was almost shot out of the sky by a fourth foe this one seemed to be dressed in rags and using his bare hands to fire blasts of something that seemed like really powerful fireworks...
Ducking again he headed on hoping they hadn't noticed he was now alone and the trenchcoat he had been wearing was now holding what he could use of the debris as a "body".
He hoped the others had more luck as noticing he was being herded into a dead end he ducked down a side road and magnetically launching a manhole cover behind him he took to below the streets...

ISSUE TWO: OPENING STAKES

Pong shook himself as the sounds of sirens echoing through the streets brought him to his senses.
Staggering to his feet he looked around and simply stared...

Somewhere in the distance the sirens of fire engines and patrol cars rang and yet he could see only one area illuminated by flame the only thing was he could have sworn the new police building was in the opposite direction...

It took him only a moment to realise where he was standing and what had to be the location of the fire...

Checking himself he swiftly found his comlink and the ear piece still fortunately in one piece.

"Bats can you hear me, Skater are you there?" he asked but only distorted buzzing was the reply.
Breathing came harder as he tensed.
"Johnny if you can hear me you better head towards the fire, I need help I think both Bats and Skater are down..." he mutters as turning he briefly concentrates as his body swells into a ball and he begins to bounce towards the scene he had only moments ago from his memory had been standing alongside the Batman...

Johnny paused.
His search had been fruitless, he had patrolled most of the lower levels of the new building with no success which only left the floors above some of which his enhanced senses told him was occupied and the light sources within them prevented him from discerning anything else there.
A loud buzzing caught his attention and focusing he heard a broadcast from the radio room of the police station burst into life, fortunately sound echoed well meaning he didn't have to leave himself exposed to the light to listen in.
"There's been an explosion in downtown, the centre of the blast appears to be the home of one of the crime bosses of the area, there's reports of a unusual vehicle buried in the debris, fire engines are being called in additional police units required to support them," the voice seemed strained and somewhat faint but Johnny decided perhaps he'd better check with the others as he used his talents to move out of the building where he could use his comlink and not risk being detected by the police officer inside.

Before he could say a word the comlink burst into life,
"Bats can you hear me, Skater are you there?" a tense voice echoed.
After a pause it then became clearer, "Johnny if you can hear me you better head towards the fire, I need help I think both Bats and Skater are down..." Pong's voice sounding even more shocked than he was as Johnny looked towards the light in the distance as the fire grew larger...

"What is that?" Mechimera wondered as the area around him shifted and turned.
His probes relayed information from throughout the police station even as he also investigated the station computer.
It took but the space of a moment to analyse the dispatch before he sent a few more of his tendrils out to scope out the area.
Somewhere close to the burning debris an unaffected building suddenly sprouted small legs and then a body from where the telephone wires connected it to the rest of the city telecommunication grid, this then developed into several bodies that spread out and began to analyse the situation.
"Hmm what is this?" Mechimera wondered as its various on site drones relayed pictures of the burning debris that seemed to consist of several buildings that comprised a small city block.
Pausing he enhanced an refocused the image as one particular area was magnified and then clarified... revealing a car buried under flaming debris.... the only problem was the car was the batmobile...
"Oh dear..." Mechimera muttered.
