I've previously answered as 10 of my characters, but I'm actually up to 14 Society PCs, so I should answer with the two older ones that I never got around to, as well as the two newest. This is actually my second oldest PC, but her personality isn't quite as interesting as some of the others, so answering these questions took a little more thought.

1. Why are you a Pathfinder?
My father's a Pathfinder, as a paladin. And my big sister, Catherine, who's also a paladin (see earlier post in this thread). And my younger brother, who is a... •sigh•... barbarian.

I was raised to respect the good and noble gods, but I was always more attracted to the stories of Sarenrae offering redemption to those who sought it, rather than my family's traditional patrons of Aroden and Iomedae. So I studied in the Temple of Sarenrae, and became a priestess. I decided I could do more good in the world by going out adventuring like the paladins in my family than staying home at the temple in Absalom that has plenty of clerics already, so here I am.

2. Do you have a name and surname that is not ripped straight out of existing Earth mythology or popular culture?
My full name is Isabella Maria Victoria Brightsword, which I've heard is similar to the names from some of the cultures of that distant world, but I know of nobody else who has that full name.

3. Which nation did you grow up in? How did this nation influence you?
My father was a Pathfinder based in Absalom, so my family grew up there. Being able to study using the Pathfinder's library and visit the great Temple of Sarenrae in the city helped me become the woman I am today.

4. What do you look like? What are your wearing? How does this vary when you’re stalking through forests, sewers, deserts or in glittering cities?
I have blonde hair and blue eyes like most of my family. I think my sister, Catherine, is prettier than me, but I'm happy with the way I look, anyway. I have a mithral breastplate, buckler, and scimitar that I use when adventuring, but I also have priestly vestments and some pretty dresses that I wear, depending on the occasion.

5. What do you love? (Treasure and experience doesn’t count)
Helping those in need. Spreading the blessings of the Dawnflower to all corners of Golarion, and possibly beyond. My brother actually left Golarion once, and visited another planet. I'd be curious to see such a place some day.

6. What do you hate? (Unclear and irritating darkness level rules don’t count)
Seeing good people die. No offense to Pharasma, of course, as I understand the cycle of life is necessary, but I've died twice myself, and seen... oh my, I've lost count, but at least 6 other Pathfinders have died while I've been on missions with them. The fact that I've actually lost count makes me very sad.

Most were able to be revived from the dead shortly after their deaths, as I obviously was both times I visited Pharasma's realm. But there was one, a kind cleric/wizard, who I wasn't able to save, and couldn't be revived. Soon, I'll be strong enough to case the spells to save my fellow Pathfinders from death myself, so that should hopefully help me to protect my comrades in arms from meeting Pharasma too soon.

7. Which other Pathfinders (PCs) do you rely on for teamwork, survival and butt-kicking? Do you have a bro? a mentor? a father figure? maybe a rival?

I've worked with many good Pathfinders over the years. As I mentioned, eldest sister and younger brother are both Pathfinders, though oddly, we've never been assigned to a mission together. I suspect my father, as a retired Pathfinder and current advisor to the Society, thought it would be too difficult for us to work together and advise Venture-Captain Valsin to never assign us to the same mission.

8. How does your race influence your views? Are you a stereotype of a certain race? How are you different from most humans/elves/gnomes/orcs/tengu?
Humans vary so much. Are there stereotypes for our race? I have been called "typical" for a holy priestess, though, mostly from other Pathfinders who wish to torture or kill prisoners against my objections. I think if I'm called "typical" for a preistess of Sarenrae for being good and noble, and offering prisoners a chance at redemption, then it means I'm doing my job well!

9. What are you afraid of? Do you have any phobias or worries?
As I said, I've seen so much death that I worry about myself and my fellow Pathfinders on missions.

10. What is your most treasured possession?
The light of Sarenrae! Where would any of us be without her blessings?
OOC: This thread needs to be revived.
"Or you can go follow the path of my sister, and 6 generations of our family before us, and become a paladin. They just declare a holy smite against such abominations, and Iomedae guides their weapons to destroy the evil things."

"But if you're not a cleric or paladin, there's always the old standbys - holy water, cure spells, blunt objects against skeletons, slashing weapons against zombies, and so on.
Our paths have never crossed, but your fame precedes you. I have, like most Pathfinders, heard of the exploits of the mighty Archmage Thorne. Reading the Pathfinder Chronicles throughout my training, and my relatively short time so far as a field agent, I've been amazed to read of your many exciting adventures and thrilling victories. I hope you won't think it's too forward of me, but I'd like to respond to the complaints about the Society in your letter of retirement.

I, too, share your concerns about the Pathfinder Society. The Society bills itself as fighting for the greater good, but our missions are often focused on acquiring powerful artifacts or achieving vague objectives, with no explanation as to how these things fit into the grand scheme of the Society's goals.

This is why I am a member of the Silver Crusade. I know many Pathfinders think of us as a bunch of "lawful stupid" paladin types, with no brains or personalities, but I assure you this is not the case. While law and order are important factors to many of our members, our highest ideal is fighting for the greater good of all sentient people everywhere in Golarion. This is why we often ally ourselves with citizens of Andoran in the freeing of slaves, even in circumstances where such actions might be against the law.

The Silver Crusade exists to drive the Society away from mysterious, shadowy goals and towards the light of goodness and honesty. Our leaders influence the Decemvirate as much as they can, while field agents like myself set a proper example for all Pathfinders to see.

To be blunt, our Crusade could use a famous and powerful agent such as yourself on our side. If someone as powerful and famous as the Archmage Thorne were to join us, it would go a long way towards aiding our fight against the corruption within the Society.

I hope you'll give serious consideration to my invitation. Rather than abandon the Pathfinder Society, please consider aiding us to change it from within.

May the blessings of the Dawnflower be upon you,

As a cleric of Sarenrae, I bought one, because it's just a cool item. At will light, endure heat, feather fall once per day, and an automatic Cure Light Wounds when I hit negative HP - pretty good for 2500 gp.

It's the Cure Light Wounds power that I have questions about. Is that just 1d8 + 1 healing, since that's the minimum that the spell's capable of doing? Or does the CL 5 on the item listing means that it casts as if a level 5 cleric had cast it, thus making it 1d8 + 5? A friend of mine said that she thinks the CL 5 is just the level to create the item, not the casting level of the CLW power, but I just wanted to double check.

Second question is when exactly does that automatic CLW for negative HP kick in? Is it on my next turn, or does it happen as an immediate action? And if it is immediate, does it actually prevent the damage, or just heal it right after it happens? The big difference there is whether or not it can prevent death. ie For instance, with my 12 constitution, if I have 1 HP and gets hit for 14 points of damage. Normally, this means death. But if I can get the CLW healing taken off the damage before it's applied, then I won't drop all the way down to -13.

When preparing spells for the day, a cleric can leave some of her spell slots open. Later during that day, she can repeat the preparation process as often as she likes. During these extra sessions of preparation, she can fill these unused spell slots. She cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because she has cast a spell in the meantime. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if she prepares more than one-quarter of his spells.

I really should start doing this sometimes, instead of always praying to Sarenrae for as many spells as she'll grant me every morning at dawn.stringburka wrote:MurphysParadox wrote: Another neat thing: you do not have to prepare your full list each day. I'm still not sure if I'm happy with all the details of my training, and may take some time to train in different ways before my first mission.

One thing I am sure of is that the Heroism subdomain (Glory domain) is the best available for followers of the Dawnflower.

I went with Fire for my second domain, just to get Burning Hands, Fireball, and Fire Resistance eventually. I'm not 100% sure if that's the best, but it works for me. And Fire Bolt seems like a reliable backup weapon at low levels, though the damage doesn't scale enough to be useful at mid-high levels.

The Healing domain just seems somewhat unnecessary - all good clerics are good healers even without it, and the 1st level skill is only good on people who are dying. If someone is in that bad shape, I'll be more likely to cast Cure Light Wounds or channel positive energy to heal them more than what that ability could provide. I was thinking the Good domain doesn't seem too bad, but in some ways, it's redundant with Glory. And I just wasn't overly impressed with the Sun domain.

If you're a cleric of Sarenrae, the scimitar is pretty much mandatory. But that doesn't mean you have to be melee focused. I decided to put focus my training on manual dexterity to make the crossbow and magic my main weapons. But I've got the scimitar as a backup in case I do have to rush to the front lines, presumably to heal someone, though channeling energy can be done at range.

Something that seems like a good idea for just about any spellcaster is to make sure you get a good initiative bonus. Whether it's Fireball or Prayer, there are a lot of spells you'll want to cast at the start of a fight, before everyone starts moving around. So beating everyone (including your allies) on the initiative rolls will make it easier to have your spell targets where you want them during the first round. So I'm sure I'll take Improved Initiative as a feat eventually, though maybe not at 1st level.

I took Selective Channeling as my first feat, and I still haven't decided for sure on a my second feat, since I'm a human. I was thinking of maybe Point Blank Shot to focus a little on the crossbow, though I know I'll never be as good as a dedicated archer with a composite bow. Other feats I've considered are Combat Casting, though I don't expect to be casting on the front lines that often, or maybe Extra Channel, with the intent of being able to spend my daily channels on Quick Channel or Channeled Shield Wall if I pick those up later.

Btw, you have the symbol of the wrong NG goddess as your avatar.
I'm a cleric of Sarenrae, though I haven't had a chance to go on my first mission for the Pathfinder Society yet. You get one domain spell slot per spell level, and those are the only slots that you can use for domain spells. Druids are the same way, but they only get one domain, so they don't have a choice of which spell to prepare in their domain slot, unlike most of us clerics who pick from two domain spells for each slot.

As long as we've got a cleric thread going, let me ask everyone's opinion on some feats I was looking at. What do you think of all the channeling related feats? I was thinking I could easily spend half my feats doing extra stuff with channeling, between Alignment Channeling to smite evil outsiders, Channeled Shield Wall to buff the AC of myself and teammates who use shields as a swift action, Quicken Channel to still get another standard action in the same round as channeling, and Extra Channel to have enough channeling available to do all those things every day.
