"Hmmm. I see. Right."

Fang looks up at the mention of his name. And as he looks around you realize "vapid" only scratches the surface of his expression...

Shariv grins, looking pointedly at Fang, then at Cyrus.

"And what, exactly, is this?"

"Hmmm... That may be all fine and good, friend-o, but it doesn't explain what we few newcomers have been doing the whole time. Last thing I remember is turning in for the night in my bunk back on the ship."

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

What's been going on?

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

<- Background is finished.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Definitely. I've got a plan, you know.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Stats and description are done. Working on background right now.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Shariv, noticing his companion's unusual silence, decides to start something. He darts forward with blinding speed, Han Solo-style, along the passageway.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

First point seconded.

Sorry guys, I've been busy and away from the computer over the weekend.

I'd assume this is done unfortunately, or at least on hiatus. We seem to have lost half the party.

But if you want to continue with a reduced party, we can do that. We'll just rule the non-posting PCs go explore a different part of the complex.

Who did we lose?

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Hello?

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

I dunno, Chewie. It was all a big dark blur, but now it's a big light blur. I think my vision's getting better.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

"Oh, damn. I almost forgot."

Shariv saunters over to one of the downed raptors, bending down and pulling out his throwing spikes with a series of unsettling squelching noises. After wiping them on the creature's hide, he holsters the spikes. After a moment, he jams his two new daggers into his belt and slips his razor back into its hidden wrist sheath.

"So... What now?" the merc states matter-of-factly, rubbing his hands together. At that, he looks down, noting that his wounds have already completely healed due to Melani's fast healing spell. "Hot damn, Sunshine! You don't mess about!"

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Erian El'ranelen wrote:

As the others investigate the bodies and discuss healing, Rauno carefully walks about the rest of the room, looking both for danger and things hidden from sight while also inspecting the arrows he'd shot. It is obvious from his gait that the archer is still feeling the sting of that raptor's claws. As his companions find items of interest, Rauno calls out, "I can stow stuff in my haversack if it looks valuable." He then resumes his inspection of the room.

Trying to recover whatever arrows he can. Figure it'll take the rest several minutes to search through the bodies, so Rauno will take 20 on a Search of the room if possible, or some rolls to cover the more interesting areas if needed (+11 Search modifier). Rauno is at 24/45 hp.

Wait... where's Rauno? Who is this Erian guy? What's going on? Huh?

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Shariv opes over toward the bodies and rummages around. He finally rises from his scavenging, holding X daggers.

"If you don't mind..."

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Talking is a free action, right?

In the midst of battle, Shariv bursts out laughing. His high, raspy bark nearly drowns out the raptor's squals of pain (mixed in turn with Xer's curses). There's just something rather surreal about the whole situation.

The merc twirls his razor, licks the blade, and leaps back into the fray.

Xer Androssi wrote:
Getting more frustrated by the second I listen for the saurian for a moment as I nock another arrow and let it fly with a shout of "Gorram it, DIE ALREADY!"

Good one, Jayne.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Shariv's razor flashes once more, and a jet of blood spurts from the neck of the prone saurian.

Attack: 16 (crit range), confirm: 12 + 8 = 20, 2d4 + 2 = 9 damage

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

With both of his tradmark 'skewers' back in his hands, he flicks his fingers once more, aiming for both raptors simultanously. After both missiles find their mark, Shariv's razor drops out of his sleeve and back into his hand.

Doubletoss, Attack 1: 15 + 10 = 25; Attack 2: 9 + 10 = 19. Damage: 1d6 + 2 = 6 / 1d6 + 2 = 5

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Shariv, your attack missed, but you do get an AoO from the prone raptor trying to rise. Don't forget to add the +4 bonus for melee vs a prone target

The fighter's second swing at the prone raptor digs deep, releasing a spray of arterial blood.

Attack: 14 + 8 + 4 = 26; damage: 1d4 + 2 = 5

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Shariv, clutching at a gaping wound in his chest, still manages to slash at the raptor with his tiny, flashing razor.

Attack: 11 + 8 = 19; damage: 1d4 + 2 = 5

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Shariv darts forward, retrieving his throwing spike from the downed goblin. He whirls around, his razor finds its mark, and a gout of blood spurts from the nearest raptor's neck.

Attack: 19 + 8 = 27 (within crit range), confirm: 12 + 8 = 20 (crit); 2d4 + 2 = 9 damage

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

"What the F~@$?!" shouts Shariv as the dinosaur-riding goblin things charge the group.

He flicks his hands, and a throwing spike appears in the throat of each of the goblin creatures. Another quick flick, and a wicked-looking straight razor appears in his left hand.

Uses Doubletoss ability, attack roll 1: 13 + 10 = 23, damage: 8; attack roll 2: 12 + 10 = 22, damage: 8.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

"Fine," replies Shariv. He seems a bit put off, but follows Berekiah closely.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Shariv stands at ready, spikes drawn, then slowly opens the door.

Rauno wrote:
Rauno nods to the right-hand door. "Right. Always go right. Shariv, you still taking point, or you want me looking for nasties?" The Varisian is holding his bow and considering an arrow, obviously wanting to know if he should prepare for combat or serve as point-man.

"Keep an eye out for danger, I'll go first."

Xer Androssi wrote:
"I think Shariv volunteered to go first."

Backfilling

"That I did."

Shariv pulls a coil of thin steel cable from his belt pouch, quickly fastens it around a broken pillar, then zips down the line, stopping abruptly about five feet from the bottom. He lets go, landing catlike on the floor.

DM wrote:

For Shariv, and anyone else that follows him down

As you near the opening in the cliff face, you can fell the onrushing air being sucked inside. The opening is more than large enough for a man to fit through, and once inside, it widens considerably into a worked tunnel.

Ten feet in, the tunnel divides into three shafts, each filled with multiple man-sized turbine blades that spin lazily, driven by rumbling gears. You think you could time it and dodge past the blades (Tumble), or perhaps temporarily jam the gears to slip past (Disable Device). Of course, smashing the blades and/or gears is an option as well, albeit not a stealthy one.

Tumble? Sure!

Shariv's near-inhuman reflexes serve him well, as he quickly ducks and rolls through the series of blades, popping out the other side like a cork from a bottle.

Tumble check: 14 + 11 = 25

Adaro Omirra wrote:
"Yes I believe the shaft if a good idea, but I don't think it matters on time as we will all be going in and I'm sure that its not lit in the shafts, I don't see in the dark too well so we will need to illuminate our way either way, so day or night, doesn't seem to matter none." He just pipes in his 2 cents.

"Alright, then. I think I may have a plan. We go in, myself on point, flanked by Rauno and Xer, with Berekiah and Melani in the center, and Adaro bringing up the rear."

Xer Androssi wrote:

"So what if a few of em die? As long as they provide enough distraction to get us in what does it matter?"

"You misunderstand. We don't want to get noticed at all. Fifty or so armed bandits tend to get in the way of that."

Xer Androssi wrote:
"We could hire some of those idiot gangmembers. Someone's got to have an axe to grind with the enchantress' gang. If we could get them to attack her fortress, we could sneak in while they were distracting her guards. I don't suppose we could get a map? Also, I've got some gold so I need to go in and see what this guy's got for sale."

"Walkin' in with an army of local scabs isn't the best idea I've heard in a while. If we did that, half of our 'employees' would be heading for the hills within ten minutes, and the other half would be dead within twenty. We'd be back where we started, and with less gold. And we'd have attracted Mistress Tirana's attention. No, I think we'll go in all sneaky-like, catch the evil b#&*! off guard."

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

"Between the six of us, we could probably just waltz in and liberate the goods, but a bit of finesse coudn't hurt, savvy?"

DM wrote:

"The old Council of Truth, they may have not used dwarven craftsmen for their front door, but they did hire good dwarven engineers for their other improvements to the complex. It so happens that one of my clan worked with... well, it doesn't matter how I know, only that I do."

"So... If you know how to get in, would you happen to have a map? Blueprints perhaps? Or are we just going to have to take your word for it. Or am I going to just have to rely on this," Shariv says, pointing to his head, "and these," he finishes, twirling his spikes like a pair of drumsticks. His last question sounds more like a statement than a question.

Also, I've finished Shariv's character portrait and posted it on DeviantArt.

DM wrote:

"I'd like to use your likeness and name in the occasional illusion. You seem to have made quite an impression on the Splitstreet Gang, and if I can use that to keep the thieving bastards out of my store, all the better."

"Let me tell people that my store is under your protection, and use the odd illusion of you here in the shop, and I should have a respite from paying protection money to any gang, at least as long as you are here in Kaer Maga."

"I've got no problems with everyone in Kaer Maga seeing this face. Good advertising for my ...unique skills. I'm all for it. Any objections, Miss Melani?"

Berekiah wrote:

Shariv has max ranks in sarcasm.

"We're in deep. No doubt about it."

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

Don't know if this is possible, but here goes...

Shariv, wasting no time, rushes up to the wounded punk, simultaneously yanking the spike from the thug's chest and shanking him in the ribs with a second spike.

Attack: 10 + 8 = 18; damage: 1d6+2 = 7

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

EDIT: my initiative should be 25, not 24. I forgot about my 21 Dex. For some reason, I thought it was 19. Wierd.

DM wrote:

You expected otherwise from this crew?

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

"Hey, I... I kinda have to be somewhere, so could you, kind of, not take our money?"

Bluff check: natural 1

Initiative: natural 20 + 4 = 24. Un-f!!#ing-believable.

"Oh, and before you go..."

Shariv reaches into the folds of his duster, as if to search for his money-pouch.

Suddenly, his hand moves like lighnting, the throwing spike barely seen as it whirls end-over-end towards the gang leader.

Attack roll: 18 + 10 = 28. Holy mother of Jesus Christ on a bicycle.

The spike buries itself in the right side of the thug's chest.

"...you forgot something."

Damage: 1d6 + 2 = 8. Dayum.

Uncharacteristically grim, Shariv looks meaningfully at the cleric.

(Male Human (Rhennee) Human Paragon 3 / Fighter 2 / Master Thrower 1)

The abruptness of the transit causes Shariv to pitch forward, retching.

"I don't like magic. Doesn't agree with me, as it were."

He then turns to Melani.

"I would be leader, but I think that job's best left to someone... else?"
