Again just another feedback item. Building NPC's for my upcoming game and built a 5th level rogue, 3rd level assassin, human.

In the combat notes, it shows that the NPC has sneak attack 3d6 twice. According to my calculations, she should have a total of 5d6, 3 from 5th level of rogue, and 2d6 from three levels of assassin.

Been working with the latest version of the sheet. couple of things have cropped in the course of use.

1) When adding custom Arms at the bottom of the items page, forces the Summary page to show a #Value. All of the other custom items I have added to the items page all seem to work fine. It also messes with the weight calculation on the page.

2) On the custom page, you give the user the opportunity to add Custom Spells. Far as I can tell they don't go anywhere. Was it the intent to have them appear in the valid list of spells for the Spelllist sheet? Not really an issue as the spell will eventually get added to the sheet as it is in the APG.

Edit: Looks like for #1, when you add a weight amount for the item everything works fine.

Each version of this sheet continues to get better. I am now using it to rebuild some NPC's for some sessions I anticipate running here later this year in addition to keeping my current character (Ranger) up to speed.

Anyway, was working through an 8th level of Adept, NPC that I need for my future sessions and when I got the SpellList sheet, there were no spells in the drop down list for the adept. I checked my build and she has a 19 Wisdom, which should be more than sufficient to cast up to 3rd level spells.

The Spell Info section on page 1 shows that she is caster level 8, Adept spells are 0th - 3, 1st (4+1), 2nd (3+1), 3rd (1+1). What I think is interesting though is that it shows the Adept Base save DC: -1 (add spell level)

She is a very basic Adept, nothing fancy.

Pulled the below from the d20pfsrd:

To prepare or cast a spell, an adept must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against an adept's spell is 10 + the spell level + the adept's Wisdom modifier.

If you need anything else for this let me know.

Thanks.

Any idea when you'll be able to add the material from the APG?

He posted a few replies above that it would be a week or two before he would get to the APG. Yesterday at 4:46.

I'll be interested in a review of this one. Seems like you SGG guys are really turning out some interesting work.

Same gaming group, different DM's. Last DM let us use 15 point buy. Current DM has us using 10 point buy. Low magic world. He says he has plans for us to make up the "deficit" as we proceed through the campaign.

I am supposed to run a section of the campaign later this year. I'm converting existing D20 adventure to Pathfinder and the NPC's I'm converting are all over the board, 10, 15 and 20. Going to be interesting when our characters encounter this section of the campaign.

More stuff on the animal companion pieces.

1) When selecting initial animal companion, the animal page links up just fine. Don't have the book in front of me at the moment to get the exact verbiage, but as the Druid or Ranger goes up in level, they can choose from a larger list of Animal Companions. Right now, the only place the animal companion resides, for the Ranger at least is at level 4. As the character advances in level, the list in that drop down expands.

However selecting a companion from the expanded list, results in a #N/A over on the Animal page in the Animal Type field.

2) Now take these next thoughts with a grain of salt, but would it be a possibility to allow the Animal Companion option to appear at each level where the class has the option to "change" animal companions? If they choose a new one, populate the Animal page with the new stats, clearing all the old data associated with the original animal companion.

3) What I also don't know again as I don't have the book in front of me, is if you choose a new animal companion at a higher level, how much "advancement" do you get to do with the animal?

For example, I choose a horse at 4th level and upgrade the horse along the way as the character advances, the horse dies for whatever reason, and I choose a new animal companion, say a Roc at the appropriate level, do I start out with them as if I were choosing them for the first time and only get the beginning bonuses as if this was back at the initial 4th level of the character?

Which brings up another question, if I loose the animal companion for whatever reason at a level where the character is in between animal advancement options, I end up going back to the previous level where I was eligible to choose from a particular set of animal companions, rather than the notation that I am choosing a new companion at my current level...

Things that make me go hmmmmm.

I found one other thing that has jumped out at me. Looks like human has perhaps picked up an extra skill racial bonus for acrobatics.

"NOTES
COMBAT: Attack and damage bonuses vs [aberrations +2]
SKILLS: Bonus to Bluff, Perception, Sense Motive and Survival checks vs [aberrations +2]; +1 bonus on Perception checks to follow or identify tracks; 2 racial bonus on Acrobatics jump checks
"

Umm,yeah, all hail the orcs...wanders off...

But seriously, I continue to look forward to each release that you provide for this sheet.

Wow! Lots of work on this one. I like the new animal companion functionality and the new bonuses page you put together looks great! Looking forward to using it.

Quick note on the Animal page when entering Tricks, the value from the third box down does not display on the Summary page or on the Page4(a)(b).

That's the only thing at the moment. One other question for you is, do you have a direction for both functionality and content you are going to be adding?

Thanks and keep up the great work.

Nice changes for the Level page. Kind of like it.

I'm now building out a Ranger with the new version and when it gets to Animal Companion as the Feature, the next box becomes active and available for drop down, however there is nothing selectable within that list.

Just went back and looked at a previous version of the sheet and found that it didn't even have the drop down setup on the page, so this is a step forward. No worries about the companion functionality if you are not prepared to implement at this time.

Skill Sheet Query:

I am now wondering if there is any need for a full 20 level layout of skill points?

Personally, I *LIKE* the 20 column layout. It helps me know (and plan) what skill points were assigned at what point in the character's career.

Have to agree with Lord Pel. I also *LIKE* it. I can see exactly where and when skill points were assigned and then if there is a change in the Intelligence modifier those reflect on each level appropriately.

Ahh. That may be it. I didn't pay that close attention to the school. I'll go back and look. Thanks.

I've been converting some 3.5 NPC's to Pathfinder using the sheet and I was working with a Wizard here today and a couple of things cropped up. This is on .54 sheet BTW.

1) On the levels sheet, when the feat I chose was Spell Mastery, the Feature selection was yellowed in and had a drop down there, but wouldn't drop down. Was it supposed to do anything or was it dependent upon something else on another sheet?

2) On the SpellList sheet, I added the spells to the Spellbook first and then went to the prepared section and when I got there to adding them on the 1st level list it said I had 5/5 slots availalbe. So I started adding the prepared spells. When I added Cause Fear, it deducted two from the available total instead of just the one that I thought it should. I went from 1/5 slots available to -1/5 slots available.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

Hi Erian,

I was just adding a couple of feats on the Customization tab just to see how it worked. I didn't actually save anything on the one or two I added. I was just following the example that shows in the comments piece when you click on the qualified cell.

And you were right it was the Abilities and Feats tab. I wrote this late last night and I didn't have the file in front of me.

That's very cool about adding in the SGG stuff. Looks like they have done some nice work. Now to convince my DM to let me use some of it....

Edit: Looking at your feats tab, I see how you added multiple feats known criteria. I didn't add enough And's/Or's/IsNumber's.

Finally pulled down the .8 release and things have definitely changed for the better. Really like what you have done with the sheets and the organizational changes you've made.

I was playing with the Customization section and in particular the class and custom feats sections.

First, I was playing with a feat from SGG to Feats of Battle and it has several criteria including several feat pre-reqs. I wrote part of the validation, but couldn't figure out how to get it to do validations for three different feats. It told me the formula was too long or some such thing. Is there a way to do this in the customization piece.

Second, I added a custom class on the customization page, adding the names of the various level abilities for each level. All worked fine, but then when I got to adding the class to the character sheet it was fine, but then I went to the back page I think it is, and where it shows the class abilities, it showed #REF. Did I do something incorrectly on the custom class section?

Thanks.

Hey Kor,

Couple of things my group discovered last night when I was going over the sheet.
1) Looks like encumbrance is not affecting the movement rates. Don't know if this is intentional or not, so thought I would mention it.

2) Currently my character has a 1 Strength, so a -5 Strength modifier. Can you say ability damage and really bad save rolls? Anyway, he is now equipped with a light crossbow. The damage is showing as 1d8-5 on Page 3 of the sheet. The discussion that came to light last night is that the only time a negative strength modifier is a problem for ranged weapons is if the weapon is a bow or a sling. According to the discussion, crossbows should be unaffected by this modifier.

Just have a couple of questions. I notice on the Page 1 in the name information section there is a field that says "Template". Is this in anticipation of adding templates to the file?

Also, just looking at some of the sheets and realizing that while I am Excel literate, I am not that Excel literate, it appears that adding a full progression class to the Excel is not real easy to get all the automation pieces. Is that a true statement or am I missing something?

Above you stated that the bonus for abilities should be entered on the Stats page, couldn't they also be added on the Bonuses tab and would track the source of the adjustment? When I have access to a computer during a game, I have a list of bonuses and I leave them in there, but don't put the modifier in until I need it. For example my character had Bull's Strength on him the other night. It's listed on my Bonuses list and when it got activated, I put the 4 in Bonus column and everything adjusts across the sheets.

All of the above said, I have upgraded my current character to your latest Excel release and built him out in that version. The sheet is coming along nicely.

Thanks again.

I'm actually all over all of the threads on char sheets because between the three of you you all have something I really like, and I can't decide what I like best (all though the answer to that is probably "iphone/ipad app that doesn't exist :)"

Just out of curiosity, who is the third one? I know Kor's and Erian's, but didn't know there was a third one.

Thanks.

Hi Kor,

Just want to say that I have been using your sheet for our current Pathfinder game. I've looked at a couple of others and yours is the one that I like the best.

That being said, I think I discovered a problem. I have a straight fighter and I tried to take the Step Up feat at 4th level, but it wasn't in the list. I looked at your Feats Data sheet and looked at the pre-req which is BAB 1. At 4th level the fighters BAB was no longer one, so it didn't allow me to take it. The Pre-reqs I think as I understand it are the minimum requirement to take the feat, so the requirement really is BAB >= 1. The same also applied to Weapon Focus as I tried that one as well.

Thanks and keep up the good work.

On a somewhat related note, and I unfortunately cannot find the story link but read it a few days ago about a young man in Germany that spent a number of years being a "skinhead" is how I believe he referred to himself in the story. After his girlfriend did some research he discovered that his grandparents I think had hidden their Jewish heritage during WWII and he is now an Orthodox Jew.

Edit. It was Poland.

And the first issues released by Paizo for each?

Thanks.

Anything by Janny Wurts. She also co-authored the Empire novels with Raymond Feist, but her solo work, in my estimation, is even more impressive.

Cycle of Fire (Stormwarden, Keeper of the Keys, Shadowfane)

Wars of Light and Shadow
Curse of the Mistwraith
Ships of Merior
Warhost of Vastmark
Fugitive Prince
Grand Conspiracy
Peril's Gate
Traitor's Knot
Stormed Fortress
Initiate's Trial (being written)
Destiny's Conflict (pending)
1 or 2 additional volumes

Unfortunately it is currently only available in the UK, but come April 2009, I think, they will be printed here in the US.

Louise Cooper
Time Master Trilogy
Initiate
Outcast
Master
Several other series as well all related to this. Again mostly out of print although I think Mundania Press has released the Time Master Trilogy now.

Carol Berg
The Bridge of D'Arnath series - the titles escape me at the moment.

Randall Garrett
Lord Darcy - omnibus edition

The Gandalara Cycle

Robert Silverberg
The Majipoor Cycle
Lord Valentines Castle
Valentine Pontifex
several others as well.

Glen Cook
The Black Company novels

Son of the Endless Night - John Farris.

I seem to remember reading it in college that it was pretty scary. Of course college has been more than a few years ago, so my memory could be faulty.

I feel like a rube asking this, but does anyone have a link to where the existing web enhancements are? I've been all over the site, but for the life of me I can't find them.

The only enhancement I know about is the one for spells that is in the Beta PDF download.

Los Alamos burned to the ground a few years ago. Turned out to be one of the scariest things thats happened to me, but its a funny story. Not the fire, that wasnt funny at all, but what happened to me. Pojoaque is a LOT bigger now. Population has more than doubled in the last 5 or so years. They opened a shiny new casino about a week ago too (because 2 inside of 5 miles wasnt enough...).

Diego,

My father was still working in Los Alamos at the time, so we spent a lot of time watching the progress of the fire. I also had some friends that were still living there too, so we were concerned about where it was going to go. We could see the smoke plume from Albuquerque as well.

Hadn't been through Pojoaque in a few years, so missed the growth. You can never have too many casino's in a 5 mile radius. LOL. Camel Rock is the only one I remember off the top of my head.

How's Espanola these days? Same as it ever was I'm sure.

Take care and enjoy the Beta.

Greetings,

New by post count, but have been reading the boards for quite a while. I was on a year and a half hiatus from D&D, having moved clear across the country from my old group. Just started playing a couple of months ago again. My new DM ran us through Seven Days to the Grave, which we are just finishing, I think.

I've also been reading the Beta as the group is debating about which way to continue, stay 3.5, go mix of 3.5 and Pathfinder, or go 4th. Right now, with our current character mix, we are running mostly classes that have not yet been released, a Druid, a swordsage (Bo9S), a Shadowcaster, a Mystic Thereuge (sp?), a Psion and a couple of others I can't remember offhand.

Where I live central VA, there is a B&N, a Waldenbooks, and three gaming stores and a Books a Million in the general vicinity.

B&N barely carries any WOTC, let alone anything else, maybe one or two Exalted books and the Serenity sourcebook. They do have 3 or 4 copies of the three new core books. Walden has the WOTC corebooks, but that's it.

The gaming store that is close to where I work has a decent selection of WotC stuff, primarily the 4th ed stuff, but no Pathfinder. One of the other gaming stores I have not been back in since I first went there a year ago. Run by gamers with absolutely no customer service skills. The third gaming store had a decent selection of the AP's and a couple of modules. Haven't been back since the Beta came out, so don't know what they got or didn't get.

Books a Million has a huge selection of both 3.5 and 4.0 stuff, but again haven't been back in a while and at the time there was no Paizo stuff. See that Erik has posted while I was typing, so I will definitely have to check the BaM here this weekend if they are supporting it as much as Erik has indicated.

I'll have to make the rounds this weekend to see what's changed.

Former New Mexican now living in Virginia waiting here. Talking about the One of our Fifty is missing, we had a couple of people ask us about moving from a foreign country when we first arrived here to VA last year.

When my parents moved from Michigan to New Mexico in the early 70's, some of their friends were concerned about them moving to a foreign country. Never ceases to amaze me.

I saw someone earlier up the thread say they were from Pojaque. How is the beautiful downtown there these days? ;) I also lived in Los Alamos, NM for a few years and as the joke goes, I still glow in the dark!

Anyways, waiting with bated breath for the Beta release...
