The picture tag says it's a Red Mantis leader...
I know it has nothing to do with the topic, but i like your avatar, Santiago.
Anybody knows from which Paizo book it's coming from, to see the full image ?
Both races look good, David.
I must say that i don't know the reference, but it doesn't matter.
Maybe you could consider raising the gadianti claws damage to 1d4, as they are medium size, and giving them a bonus to Climb (from the claws) and even to Acrobatics ?
A hobbit of mine (we never use the term halfling) got one day as a reward for an adventure a magic pancake maker, shaped as a circular flat box, which was making pancakes AT WILL.
Open box, grab pancake, close the box, open the box again, new pancake, repeat.
He still had to spend a lot of money in maple syrup, but this wondrous item was his most precious treasure.
So many good memories coming back, thinking about the red box and later my Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook...
So much nostalgia...

Yesterday...
All my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh I believe in yesterday

Why, you mean it's rare for RPGs to be translated in german, KaeYoss ?
I thought it was quite the opposite, and that the german players were somewhat covered.
I had the opportunity to play with some german gamers and i was never disappointed, on the contrary.
The same thing with english gamers, by the way (even if they were damn brits).

Even having french as my native language.. I simply cannot see myself buying it!
I cannot speak for the pathfinder line but french products usually end up translating name(as in linked to a particular setting) to really silly sounding stuff.
Agreed, Legallytired.
However translations are useful for players who are not fluent in the language of the original version.
Such as some of my friends.
Shadewest wrote: Mais alors, c'est bon pour les gens qui peuvent lire le français. Corrigé pour toi, Shadewest ;)
About the product, it seems it's an advanced character sheet, with space for the background, equipment, magic items, spellbook, companion or familiar.
It presents also some important tables (similar to those of the GM screen i assume) and a map of Golarion.
Useful for players who want more detailed character sheets and don't want to make their own.
By the way, Gobacz : I don't eat frogs.
I guess there is a mistake on their side.
Cornstarch is not a flour, that's a residue from corn, which can be used in cooking as a thickener, like potato starch or amidon.
This being said, considering the different countries of origin of all of us, and the different ways to call things, i actually don't know what kind of "cornflour" the OP was refering to.
Unfortunately it could be cornmeal or cornstarch, which have completely different effects on a recipe...
Aquatic elves are certainly not specific to Forgotten Realms.
They are in the Monster Manual, with limitations out of water.
I personally give them a penalty out of water similar to the drow light vulnerability.
Disenchanter wrote: lynora wrote: Does cornflour = cornstarch or corn meal? Makes a pretty big difference to how the cookies turn out....:) Should be cornstarch by my research. Corn flour is not corn starch.
It's cornmeal, what you use for cornbread, polenta and similar recipes.
As a matter there is an actual corn flour, different from cornmeal, but it's quite difficult to find.
I don't even know if it exists in US, maybe in the south...
Is there a PDF version of that book ? Can't find it...

Let's see...
- Players who are late at every session. Being late can obviously happen, but each time ? Are they late at work ? On dates ?
- Players who don't show up and won't call to let the group know that they can't come.
- Players who expect a kind of game, often out of nostalgia for an old campaign or just to satisfy their character's aspirations, and won't even try anything different.
- Players who are DMs themselves and often forget they are not in THIS game.
- Players who pull their with cellphones, ipods, gameboys, PSP, laptops or whatever gizmo.
- Players who spend their game time the nose in a book, even if it's a game accessory, or are not attentive in general.
- Players who think they are so experienced and so cool that it gives them the right to bully or patronize other players, especially "noobs".
- Players who are not dedicated to the game or motivated in general. I don't mind players who don't the rules, but i can't stand players who don't care about the game. If you don't like it, don't play.
I have that book, along two others from the same collection, Eternal Rome and Trojan Wars.
All in all they are nice, well-made and seem to be well-documented.
But honestly they are not so useful, although i run a campaign in a semi-historical world.
Basically the fluff is worth the reading, but the crunch is not.
I'm in.
I am not sure if i should be proud, ashamed or just embarassed, but i'm in.

Halflings rule :)
A witch is a variant of sorcerer.
It might not be exactly the case for the Pathfinder version, at least not yet, but thematically that's still a mystic individual living in remote areas, practicing arcane arts, white and black, occasionally gathering in covens or sabbats with other witches.
In a word : Sorcerer.
In that regards, there is not even a doubt in my mind (and my humble opinion) that it should be an arcane caster, using Charisma as a casting stat.
I just hope the class will be revised accordingly.
And even if it is not, i will houserule it that way.
Gandalf the most powerful being on middle-earth ?
That would be forgetting Tom Bombadil...

I usually use the Adept, Expert and Warrior classes.
For NPCs i use them as lesser clerics, mages, rogues and fighters.
For PCs i treat them as level 0 characters, which can be useful for children.
Once i also used the Grimm rules for a group of kids. Good times.
Oh. I didn't read that series.
Vic Wertz wrote: Gary's working on it right now... sorry! Get to work, lazy Gary ! >:)

Poor Paizofolks, chained to their desks even on week-ends...
Although if i had the chance to work for a company like that, i would gladly work on week-ends too...
Well, the tuning with the natural world could be made with a +2 to perception and survival.
That would avoid to make them a cleric archetype.
By the way, i didn't really get the reference. Where are they from ?
Kirth is right, basically they are upgraded half-orcs.
So just make them a subrace of half-orc, which someway became a trueblood race.
Some other suggestions :
Remove the fast movement.
Remove the claws natural weapons (ouch). The horns are enough.
Which would leave you with that :
+2 Str, -2 Cha (if you want another stat, put +2 Con)
Medium size
30 base speed
Darkvision
Natural weapons : Horns, 1d6
Tough skin : +1 natural armor
Will +2, Intimidate +2, Perception +1
Common, Orc (remove urgal as a specific language)
As it seems to be a fierce and fighting race, i would suggest to remove the Wisdom bonus and replace it with another bonus to Will and maybe a skill or two, such as Intimidate and Perception.
Their skin doesn't look to "tough" on the picture, so i would only give them +1 to natural armor.
There is the elven thinblade (Races of the Wild).
Keep it simple : Bring only monsters with Damage Reduction AND Spell Resistance.
Oh, you're right. I remember that now. I got the e-mail too.
That's actually a good thing to buy PDF books for friends.
Paizo wrote: You can now purchase PDFs as gifts for other paizo.com customers. Just select "show gift options" during checkout. (You'll need to provide their paizo.com avatar name.)
If you buy a PDF, it is personalized for you, therefore you cannot buy it several times.
Instead, use the Paizo Gift Certificates
You won't be able to buy the PDFs to send them to someone else, but you can send the gift certificate to the person so he/she can buy the PDF. Like a gift card.
A suggestion for a new Bloodline :
The Dead Sorcerer
Description : Your family has been wiped out by an unknown force during the last war, slaughtered to the last one, men, women and children.
Bloodline Arcana : As the scion of a powerful clan of arcane masters, you were destined to become one of the greatest sorcerers of your epoch.
Bloodline Powers : Unfortunately, you are dead, killed with the rest of your family.
SirUrza wrote: I can't wait until 5e rolls around. Bill Slavicsek is gonna have a lot to answer for it they try to promote another electronic product. All he did during the 4e launch panels was keep promising the gaming board software wouldn't turn into another 3rd edition's E-Tools. Well, each year they lay off more and more people and grow quieter and quieter on all DDI fronts. Talking about the DDI, without any trolling or angst against D&D4, where is the Character Visualiser we were promised ?
This was one of the rare tools i was interested in, as it is non-relevant to rules.
That would be a very useful accessory for many players who are not good with drawing and still want to make up their character's portrait.
I won't even talk about the 3D game platform. Oops, i just did.
Something to consider...
If the family of a character has a long tradition of warriors and arcane spellcasters, it doesn't necessary make him a fighter/wizard (here we go again with the gish).
Or maybe it should ? Maybe that would fit better his family line than being just a sorcerer.
Another option would be for the character to inherit a family masterwork weapon and some extra known spells at creation.
Not even mentioning the free training in arms and magic when he will later levelup (something most players neglect or underestimate).
David Fryer wrote: This was called the Gnoat in 2E. True, i remember these.
This series of "non-human" centaurs were cute :)
Edit : I just looked for them in my stuff, they are in The Monster Compendium Annual II, in Centaur-Kin : Dorvesh (dwarf/donkey), Gnoat (gnome/goat), Ha'Pony (halfling/pony) and Zebranaur (human/zebra). Good stuff.
David Fryer wrote: That is a book that I don't have. Also, isn't tht 3.0? Has it been updated for Pathfinder? Yes, it's 3.0.
To my knowledge it has not been updated to 3.5, nor to Pathfinder.
By the way, although nice to be introduced as a different creature from the satyr, the Deities & Demigods Faun has weird stats, such as a penalty to wisdom and charisma.
This has to be corrected in my opinion, a thing i did a long time ago while adapting the race to my homebrew world.
In case you wouldn't know about it, there is a Faun entry in Deities & Demigods.
Thank you for the suggestion Yellowdingo.
Publishing my campaign setting and my houserules is honestly something i considered many times, especially since 3rd edition as i refined my books.
But that would be a lot of work, as i would have to remove all the non OGL material.
As long it's private and non-commercial, i don't have to worry about this things, although i am very respectful of copyrights and licenses.
Some people are idiots.
And they make sure to show us how much they excel at it.

From my experience, solo play (1 GM & 1 player) is a great opportunity to roleplay characters with no moderation, as it's all about the unique character and everything revolving around him/her.
The GM has the opportunity to devote some time to one character, offering him/her opportunities to live and evolve, meet interesting people and creatures, go through tough challenges...
And nobody will complain about long roleplaying sessions with a NPC as no other player is waiting at the table.
That's also a great challenge for both the player and the GM.
For the player because he/she will be on his/her own, and his character will have no backup, outside of some possible help from NPCs.
But whether these are played by the player or the DM, as any NPC they are secondary, and half-played, so not so useful.
That can be tough and deadly. If the character gets to 0 HP, falls in a trap or is taken prisoner, then that might be bye-bye. But death is what makes life and adventure exciting.
For the GM too because he will have to manage to keep the game interesting around this unique player, making the stories and events connect to the character and his/her backgrounds, goals and motivations.
He should consider the character's potential and weight the challenges carefully, give him real risks although options to turn around a problem.
He should also consider introducing many NPCs, which would be contacts and eventual helpers for the character.
But when danger comes, danger should be real, as if things are too easy or appear to be soften too much, then the adventure loses all edge.
No deus ex machina. A solo character wants to be the hero, no the follower of a demi-god descending from the heavens to save his little butt in every situation.
In the end, if successful, this kind of game can be very satisfying, as the two partners, GM and player, play at their best.
Have a great game.
(That makes me think once again that i would love to run a solo game for my wife. Damn)
I jumped in and wanted to start a long litany about the Athar, when i read the post of Thammuz who ninjaed me and spoiled my show-off moment.
Curses.
;)
Bump.
My assumption is that all this Gishmania is destined to convince the Paizo staff to create an official Pathfinder gishy class, which therefore will be possible to play in Pathfinder Society.
That rules the Spellblade out, only the Paizo material can be official.

Greetings,
I am running a D&D campaign on the third Saturday of each month at The Compleat Strategist in New York City.
I am looking for new players to recruit to join our group.
The World
The campaign setting is my old homebrew world that I am running for more than 25 years.
Along all that time, it evolved into a richly detailed campaign setting.
The world is composed of several kingdoms, each with specific people and culture, deeply rooted into its civilization, history and religion.
The campaign is semi-historical, many kingdoms having a flair of Earth’s history, such as Celtic, Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Indian or Viking civilizations, but some other realms are specific.
Deeply immersed in these cultures, the world is full of legends, and can be high-magic or low-magic at the same time.
The Rules
The system I use is 3.5, revisited with a bunch of houserules, developed along the years.
These houserules cover many aspects of the game, such as the races, classes, skills, feats, combat, magic, psionic and many other details.
But the point is that they were designed to work together, as a general concept, fitting the gaming style specific to the world and my game mastery.
Some players might find some surprising similarities with Pathfinder, although many things are different and unique.
Communication
Beyond game sessions, I am encouraging communication between the players and the DM, whether it is to talk about characters, advance some adventures in play by post, roleplay or whatever related to the game or not.
In that sense, i usually use forums with my players.
I also like to provide them with some newsletters, handouts and guides, destined to enrich the game experience and the immersion.
I consider game mastery a full time job, so any player is welcome to contact me at any time through e-mail or forums for any question or character development.
About Me
I happen to be french. Sorry for that ;) Not that it matters, but it's worth mentioning in case you would notice some weird grammar or syntax mistakes.
If some people are interested, I can get into details about the campaign setting or the houserules.
I am only interested in dedicated players, who will commit to the campaign and immerse themselves as much as I do as a DM.
In the hope to have some comments and candidates,
Take care.

MerrikCale wrote: arcane warrior are always interesting to players. Its why everyone loved Bladesingers in the Realms The Bladesingers are not specific or unique to Forgotten Realms.
They first appeared in AD&D 2nd edition Complete Book of Elves, which wasn't linked to any setting.
And this is another reason why i prefer spell points to vancian magic.
With spell points you don't have to worry about the level of your bonus spells, as you just have bonus spell points.
I got mine in the beginning of last week.
The screen is very solid, sturdy.
On the negative side, i regret that there is not more information on the screen.
It could be written in smaller size, to condense more stuff.
I would have liked also a little booklet of some sort coming with it, like some other RPGs offer sometimes, such as a digest of some rules, NPC stats and so on.
But Paizo never said they would do anything like that so i don't really complain.
All in all the screen is still good. Although pretty expensive, considering the shipping.
David Fryer wrote: The archtypical Gish is an evoker. You may want to keep that in mind when designing the spell list and the class. I don't really agree with that statement.
I don't see the gish as a nuker.
Many casting warriors are using their magic for two things :
- To improve their abilities, being stronger and faster. That falls into Transmutation.
- To increasing their defense and resistance. That falls into Abjuration.
Like it has been said, i also think the spell list should include buffs for the caster (enhancing his stats, his defense or efficiency), debuffs against the opponents (weakening or hindering them) and effects for the weapon (enchantments, magic effects).
The Gish wrote: I propose the name Seldriss Hey !

Congratulations, Houstonderek.
Before you pick a name, please keep in mind that you are going to name an individual for her whole life.
A child is not a pet.
And your child might not share your geeky love of fantasy, sci-fi, movies, comics or games, so don't impose them on her.
Also, a name can be turned into a nickname or worse, into a pun. Kids can be cruel. So be careful to consider what could be the shortenings of the name.
Good luck.
