mobility ideas
praise and undead dragons

I love your version of Adivion. I was going to go with the bladebound magus first, but I figured my players would expect that from me (I love me some Elric of Melnibone though I stopped reading after Tales of the White Wolf in 1994). But once I got a better idea of the character concept, I scrapped that idea altogether. Which lead me to the kensai build. This is something they won't expect.

Morrowgarth in my end game scenario will probably do a strafing run in the surprise round, catching Addy in the target area as well. I say 'a' because the paladin will have a flying mount by that time and will want to take to the sky to deal with the evil undead dragon (drawing him away is one of the reasons she's going to be there in the first place).

To help with that, Addy's going to have chill fire shield up and running. Since the breath weapon allows a Reflex save, I'll drop a d20 but have him auto-save to not take any damage (and in the process, preserve his badass mystique). I'm having visions him of cutting an image similar to Sephiroth standing amidst the flames of burning Nibelheim in FF VII. Heck, I even have a theme song picked out for Adivion: Zaibach by Yoko Kanno from the series Vision of Escaflowne (and found only on the VoE: For Lovers Only soundtrack album). I think that number should lend him just the right air of menace for this fight.

My player and I are both known for despising intelligent magic items as part of our loot. The act of having to fight your stuff for dominance in order to make the most basic decisions is something we hated as PCs and is a hatred we still hold to this day. So my initial idea was "what would happen to someone who gave up?" Because reading Adivion's motives in Gallowspire really sounded to me like someone who had given in to an obsession. A darkened mirror, really, showing what could happen to any PC were they to give in and just let go.

I might need Morrowgarth to keep a grapple-monster eidolon busy. We've had more than a few fights end with the eidolon grappling the villain and just constricting it while the PCs kinda watch. At least Adivion has the concentration check necessary to escape such a grapple. I think I'll drop arcana theft and maybe phantasmal killer in favor of more dimension doors. And he already has chill shield up...

I don't have plans for any music. All I have is my voice, an instrument that already inspires nightmares. And with that voice I plan this...

A second draft...:
Lightning cracks from the churning, corpse-gray sky above as the Bone Stair finally terminates at the vertiginous heights of Gallowspire beneath a massive crown of blades that cast dark shadows across the roof. A wide, round seal of shining silver metal caps the roof, inscribed with arcane symbols and powerful magic wards.

In the center of the seal stands Adivion. He wears fine black robes embroidered in silver and gold and a tall crown of bone. He grips a shining chalice with both hands and there is a distinct madness in his pale eyes. The souls of the dead and the damned rage around you all, their dance of destruction wrapping around the blades of stone that threaten to close in around you. The air is thick with anticipation.

“Why?!” he demands as you step into view. “Why couldn't you just leave us alone?! For so long we've been searching for that one spark, that one beautiful ray of light that would make this a world worth living in. And then you... You had to meddle where you weren't wanted. There's nothing here for you! Why?!”

“Now look what you've done,” Adivion says, with a defeated sigh. “Do you know why I chose Galdana? Before Tar-Baphon took his title he sired an heir. And long generations hence, he still has that heir. The Tyrant's blood flows through Galdana's veins. But not the mind...”

Adivion looks into the chalice's depths. The damned fly around him, surrounding him in a spectral ring. You can tell something has gone horribly wrong.

“Please don't make me,” he whispers. “Maybe they... No, no I can't...” His face collapses in defeat against some unheard command. “All right, all right... I'll do it.” He swallows nervously before drinking deeply of the chalice. The spectral ring dives at him before shooting up into the sky. The storm above ripples as something happens.

[allow the PCs free reign. Melee PCs can run up to try and smack the chalice away. Ranged PCs may try to shoot it out of his hands. The following line assumes they are successful.]

The chalice flies, blood red liquid fans out and hisses where it touches the silver seal. You can hear the chalice as it bounces over the edge of the tower to shatter on the stones below.

[the PCs may even kill Adivion here, he does not resist because he's gonna die anyway. Whether they act or not...]

Adivion falls to his knees, gasping. He looks up at you with eyes full of fear.

“Please... help me...”

His eyes roll back and he collapses, dead.

[depending on PC's actions he may even die in their arms]

For a moment all is quiet. And then the quiet ends. Adivion is thrown backwards, blood flying from his mouth. His eyelids tear open as his eyes burn out of their sockets. It appears as though his entire body is burning, searing from the inside-out by a terrible force. The howling storm embraces him, ripping away at his clothing and his skin with far too many claws. Or maybe it's a trick of the blades, shadows thrown where they should not be.

He hauls himself upright, dead and Forsaken. What remains of his soul tears at his skin, leaving black furrows that gape before sealing themselves. He looks at his hands and begins to laugh, the mad cackle of the insane. He levels his undead gaze at you.

“You did this to me,” Adivion Adrissant accuses. “You stole Galdana from me. Look! Look at what you've done!”

His voice changes as the blue fire in his eye sockets smolders to black. “Blood means nothing,” he says. “I am the only worthy vessel for the Tyrant. In life I was his servant. Now...”

He draws his sword and holds it aloft, a wicked black blade covered in angry red runes. The storm above strikes down to that sword, setting it aflame and the world changes. You and Adivion stand in a blasted wasteland. Gallowspire looms in the distance.

“Now I am the Tyrant REBORN!!”

As Wes kindly pointed out, we, the DMs, should be thinking of ways to include Adrissant in our campaigns in a greater way. I, also, believe that campaign's primary villain should be known to the party before the end, so I'll also be brainstorming the ways to include him. Until I think of something of my own, I'd be glad to hear suggestions. Has anyone had any ideas so far?

Cheliax (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting, Companion, Modules Subscriber)

I just wanted to share some ideas to make Castle Caromarc a bit more roleplaying intensive. Since my approach worked out perfectly with my group I thought others could be interested.

I took some ideas from the Disney movie "The Beauty and the Beast" and placed a number of intelligent creatures in the castle. For example the flesh and steel apparature in the living area was improved to Caromarcs Butler who could only write on a chalkboard using his clawed hands.

I also added Mr. TicToc a complex clock built in a Golem Torso including a head. Mr. TicToc was very talkactive, but had a very bad memory that could only remember stuff from the past five minutes of whatever time was set at the clock. Since he talked so much the WW had gagged him.

A housekeeper creature was added in the museum area that was supposed to clean the PCs all the time, getting into the way of fights in the most inconvenient times. My group skipped him together with the whole building :-(

Waxwood got the ability to speak to help the characters with the clues.

Finally I dedcided that the Beast already had fighted against the Aberrant Promethean to resuce his master. It failed and died on its way up the metal tower. Here the PCs had to resurrect him using the apparature before he could join the fight. This solved the problem of the beast only being a couple of rounds away.

Hope this is of use to anyone...

The chalk writing thing (cwt) was naturally very much concerned with good manners. It offered a full banquet to the PCs to befriend them in the hope to have them search for the Count. It would constantly write the name of the next course on its chalkboard, interrupting the discussion with the PCs. It also tried to seperate the groups female halfling from the half orc and the human warrior after bedtime and raised general concerns about a "young girl" travelling with such "rough companions". It also took every effort to keep the PCs out of the Counts room. This nearly turned into a fight in the first place and then in a very long discussion on how how the Counts personal belongings could help with rescuing him. CWT took a very close look on what the PCs where removing from the master's bedroom.

Mr. TicToc consisted of a Golem torso and a head, with a clocks pendulum hanging out of the torso. Because he was very talkactive the Whispering Way had gagged the head and stopped the pendulum. After some time the Pcs removed the gag and started the pendulum again. They found out that Mr. TicToc was very talkactive and considered himself an "Intelectual". The bad thing was, that he only had a memory lasting for a few minutes prior to the time that was set on the clock. When the PCs set the clock back he could talk about the Whispering Way, meven though he mainly complained about their rude manners and obviously missing education.

CWT and Mr. TicToc had some sort of rivalry between them. Mr. TicToc considered the CWT a show off, with all his good manners and is inability to speak. CWT envyed Mr. TicTocs knowledge and higher education. Both where pretty sure that they where the Counts most favorite construct. Generally all the constructs where afraid the Count could favour someone else over them, while already knewing the Count only had love for his deceased family.

CWT even suggested the characters could take Mr. TicToc with them bound to the fighters back to get rid of his rival.

I also had imagined a janitor thing in the museum. While writing this I can imagine that such a construct would be more appropriate in the zoo, trying to clean up all the water the Whispering Way put into the area. If the PCs can help it with cleaning up the mess he could get a minor ally.

The guardian of the tower was the artist experiment. Before the Whispering Way had appeared it had prepared an exibition of its newest paintings and turned mad when the Count did not showed up and the Whispering Way cultist had no words of appraisal for his works. The groups bard managed to calm down the creature at first with a briliant monologue about art but then the groups fighter got nervous and the guardian had to die.

I portrayed WaxWood as the worst and piteous possible assistant ever- I couldn't otherwise after imagining him sneaking up to the Count feeding him with insects. He basicaly was an experiment on self esteem gone wrong. But he could tell the PCs something about the magical amatures on top of the tower.

Placing pictures of the Counts family (with faces erased or cut out) throughout the castle put the PC's on edge first but when they left the first building they knew that something very bad had happened in this man's live. WaxWood dropped a hint that the Count had mentioned that the mob had killed his wife and child in the lands uprising and at this point it became clear to the PCs why the Count had done what he had done. After they realised what tragic fate had befallen the Count there was no need for an discussion if the Count was an evil man anymore.

After the fight against the Promethean (who was a failed final experiment on divinity- wich the count believed rests in every man and woman) I ruled that the Count was beyond resuce due to his injuries and starvation but mainly because he had given ip living after he realised what monstrosities (mainly the Promethean) he had created and that he never would turn his family in such creatures.

Hope that helps

This is an application I created for myself a few months back and have been slowly improving. It's a simple initiave manager linked with the monsters data pulled from the SRD (as posted at d20pfsrd.com). I've also got tabs for Searching Spells (updated for APG) and Feats.

The application runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, and requires the .Net Framework 4.0.

I've got screenshots here so you can take a look before installing.

Honestly, short of Hasbro pulling off some sort of miracle, I will be sticking with Paizo for the forseeable future, thank you.

They think about the game like I do, in terms of balance and fun. They are creative, intelligent and are keeping alive the game I have played since 1979 so I can continue on the stories of the characters I love and will come to love in the future.

Hasbro's corporate greed and ignorance about the gamer in general has totally alienated them to me. 4th ed may be an interesting game in it's own right, but it is not the game I have been playing for ages and I have no need to rework all those years of creativity to match their new vision. The very fact they so radically changed the game rather than making a new 'introductory' game shows how little they understand their fan base.

I wanted to make a list of spell combinations. I thought maybe we could do a poll. (I know) So the rules are:

1. Only 2 spell combos are allowed

2. Please copy and past the former list and edit/add our own vote.
If you have a new option as being the best most useful spell combo,
add it, if you agree with one of the other combo's already listed,
then add an X to the right of it.

3. For This Tread only arcane spells

Pretty easy. Keep the list clean, add your reasoning for your addition under the list and we will be set. If it gets to be a popular thread and we get to 100 posts, then we will perhaps close it and determine a top 10 cool/useful combos list. Which brings us to the fourth and final rule

Please do not post/vote more than 3 times.

I will begin with one just for show, I'll count it as a vote.
