Elf

Sarastal speaks and "thinks" back at Majenko: "What? Trina is right here!"

She gives Trina her hardest slap (not very hard, admittedly) and shouts in her ear: "WAKE UP!!"

Elf

I'll just bump this back into the land of the living...

Elf

Does the woman match the description of Trina? Presumably not, if Trina just fled out the window...

Elf

Sarastal waits with bated breath to see what happens next...!

Elf

Sarastal looks disgusted. "Why can't people just stay in one place? Thelix, if we have to chase after her, try not to fall into any pies."

Elf

Sarastal prepares for a fight by casting Mage Armor on herself.

"Ssh! Be careful, we don't want to spook her," she admonishes Thelix in his clanking armor.

Elf

"Well, we better head off to Moon Street before the mob gets there."

Elf

"Catching this Trinia sounds easy enough," Sarastal sniffs. "As long as her capture stops the riots, I don't care if she's guilty or innocent. I'm afraid to walk around in a decent-looking dress, lest I be robbed by roving thugs. Maybe a few Hellknights is what the situation demands."

Elf

Sarastal doesn't want any of the items; she just wants cold, hard cash. :-)

Let me know what her share comes to.

I agree. After the "Does anybody want this round" we should sell off whats left. I have found from running many modules, sometimes you should keep what seems useless, as it's there to make an encounter easier down the road. We might want to hold onto one of those dust of appearances. Fighting something invisible could be tough without it. When we have a spell or another item that obsoletes it then we could go forward and sell.

Sarastal would be delighted to memorise and/or make some much cheaper scrolls of Glitterdust, if that would help.

What I don't want to encourage is having folks say "I've got dibs on expensive item X!", and then selling/trading it later on without sharing the wealth.

I agree with Thelix that we should keep the magical and exotic items separate from the currency and jewelry.

I'll go with that, but certainly we can sell the masterwork stuff if nobody wants it. I'd also recommend selling the Elixir of Love.

I'm still not crazy about keeping half-useful stuff like Dust of Appearance (by "half-useful", I mean "I'm willing to take it, but I would never pay what it says in the DMG, even at 50% off").

Great thanks to Sarastal for doing the math, though. Here's how I would categorize it:

Treat these as cash or as good as cash:

1000 gp the bribe money
60 gp from goons
6 long swords
6 light crossbows
6 chainmail armour
6 heavy shileds
jasper amulet-500 gp
gold necklace-600 gp
mother of pearl horn- 50 gp
6 sacks of gold-each contains 100 gp

Treat these as items to be split:

2 mwk bladed gauntlets
mwk hand crossbow
Potion of Cure Mod
Potion of Invisibility
+1 leather armour
6 doses of shiver
1 dose of dream spider venom
Ring of Feather Fall
Scroll of Blur
Elixir of Love
2 Pouches of Dust of Appearance

I'd like the potion of invisibility for myself. It will help with being a rogue.

Elf

Sarastal will probably want to scribe some scrolls. Will there be time before we go on our next adventure?

I'm willing to go along with the group on this one, but to me it kind of cheapens Magic items. They just become currency instead of items of wonder...but then I always did have a vivid imagination.

I agree, having a campaign setting where you can buy and sell magic items is a mixed blessing. On the one hand, it helps you to find something that you really like, but on the other hand, it makes magic items seem less special.

Elf
Thelix Moody wrote:

I'm assuming you didn't cash in the other magic; Potions, scrolls etc?
Most groups I've played in just split the magic up with whom could use it the most, and took turns on the items everyone could use. Kind of split them up equally, and just split the monetary items equally. If more than one person wanted an item, we just diced for it, and that person wasn't eligible to get the next item in contention. If I've got to choose between a ring of feather fall and 1000 gp, I'm going to take the GP.

That total includes everything, even the potions and the scroll.

My attitude is: if you aren't willing to pay 1000 gp for a ring of feather fall, then you might as well sell it and buy something you really do want. Likewise for the potions, dust of appearance, etc.

I'm open to trying it the other way, though (keep all magic items by default).

Elf

According to my calculations, the total is worth about 7,745 gp (assuming we sell the equipment for 1/2 value and leaving aside the drugs and poison which might be hard to sell).

Split 5 ways, that's a share of 1,549 gp each (or 969 gp + a suit of leather armor +1, or 549 gp + a ring of feather fall).

Any thoughts?

Thelix would like to update, but this depends on getting the loot sold, and split up so he can upgrade his armor etc... if nobody helps by Monday he's going to sell it for what he can, and keep all the money...Come on Guys help me out here. Zoomackula...The loot is listed in Thelix's profile (Don't know what the dust is, or how many coins are in the 6-sacks...Let's get this thing moving.

Yes, I'm just waiting on an identification of magic items and a listing of coins before tackling our next project. :-)

"I am gonna go check on my family to see how Tara is doing. Anyone want to meet up later for some dinner and ale?"

"My family can go to hell, although I'm tempted to flaunt my success in their faces...but that can wait until later. I'd be delighted to meet for dinner.

But first I'd like to study those magical items further."

Sarastal attempts to determine what enchantments lay on the various items and potions.

Spellcraft checks for identification:
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

I'll update Sarastal's sheet later

Elf

"Don't you think we deserve a bonus for all of our hard work?" Sarastal asks politely, her eyes shining with greed. "After all, we did the city a service by removing this deplorable crime lord from power once and for all."

Elf

Sarastal giggles with glee. "Magic! Look at the beautiful magic!" She helps the rest scoop up the valuables in preparation to leave quickly.

Elf

Sarastal will check for magic yet again.

Elf

"I agree -- let's explore the place QUICKLY and then leave. Before we get up to our neck in spiders. Let's barricade this door as well as we can, first."

Sarastal starts moving the small desk in front of the door.

Elf

Is there any heavy furniture we can use to barricade the door before going off to explore the office?

Elf

"Yes, let's keep exploring -- but let's check out this room first and recover from the battle."

Elf

Sarastal searches the room as quickly as she can, detecting magic.

Elf

"Close the door! Close the door!" Sarastal shrieks helplessly.

Elf

"Watch out! Thelix is hallucinating from the poison! He sees spiders everywhere!!"

Elf

"Quick, let's barricade that door, lest any more spiders come through! Majenko -- where does that door lead?"

Elf

Sarastal tosses another acid orb at the wounded spider-man.

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

1d3 ⇒ 1

Elf

Yselle's attack bonus should be +4 (+1 BAB, +3 Dex), not +3.

Elf

Sarastal shrieks and sends a ray of debilitating negative energy at the huge spider that just entered.

ray of enfeeblement

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Elf

Sarastal attempts her acid splash again. "Kill it, Thelix, kill it!"

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

1d3 ⇒ 3

Elf

No problem -- hope you're feeling better!

Elf

Sarastal tries to burn the creature with a splash of acid, but she just ends up searing the wall.

1d20+3=8

Elf

Init: 1d20+2=10

By the way, did Sarastal pick up any magical auras before the door started caving in?

Elf

"What the --" Sarastal quickly casts Mage Armor, just to be on the safe side.

Elf

Sarastal scans for magic again.

Elf

Sarastal does a cursory scan of the storage room with Detect Magic, just in case.

Elf

"Er...wait! Let me examine those papers. Later."

Sarastal grabs the papers and stuffs them in her pack.

Elf

"Feh -- nothing magical," Sarastal mutters as her held breath comes whooshing out of her lungs. "Grab whatever you want, and let's get out of here."

When they enter the hallway...

Spoiler:
"Someone close that hatch! I'm pretty sure that Devargo's office isn't down there, and there may be more spider beasties crawling in the lower parts of the ship." Sarastal tugs at the hatch with her feeble arms.

Elf

Sarastal says "Just a second; there might be something valuable in here..." She casts Detect Magic, takes a deep breath of fresh(er) air and scans around the room while holding her breath.

Elf

Sarastal realises she has no light source, but says nothing.

Elf

"All right, let's tie up these sleeping guards and take a look at Devargo's private quarters. I think we can leave the dream spiders alone for the moment. Majenko, you're welcome to follow us or go free -- whichever you like, as far as I'm concerned."

Elf

"Majenko, do you know if Devargo kept any files somewhere? Does he have an office? And that trap door -- does that lead to the dream spiders?"

Elf

identify #1 1d20+10=27
identify #2 1d20+10=30
identify #3 1d20+10=21
Sarastal gets a +2 bonus to identify necromantic items and a -5 penalty to identify evocation or abjuration items

"Yes, tell us about these dream spiders. My name is Sarastal, by the way. "

Sarastal goes over to the cage and unlocks it (using the key, if need be).

Elf

So none of Devargo's stuff is magical? Not even the vials?

Sarastal breathes a sigh of relief. "My name is Sarastal. We're looking for information on a certain party, information that Devargo would have been privy to. Of course, no one can question him now. Not without magic beyond my capabilities, at any rate."

Are there still sleeping thugs around? Maybe we can question one.

Elf

Sarastal again looks nervously at the trap door.

"Baern, I'm delighted to meet you, but please SHUT THAT DOOR!"

Elf

"Someone please close that trap door!" Sarastal's eyes widen at the sight of the spidery pit as she searches the room for magical emanations.

cast detect magic and check the room

Elf

By the way, I'll be on vacation from Aug 19-26. See you next week!

Elf

I updated Sarastal.

Note that the rules web site paizo.com/prd is online now.

Yay! Two extra points of Int for Sarastal, and two more skill points, and the ability to control undead!
