Aubrey:

Spoiler:
I understand. Runzyl's thought is that he did, in fact, die in that fight. He feels that he has no right to be alive right now and is slightly pissed at being denied the chance to join his ancestors. If this Galadaes proves to be an honorable warrior or some kind of powerful ancestor who is keeping him here for a reason, then he must obey the will of the ancestors. If it's a trap, then the worst that can happen is that they'll kill him and he'll go on to the reward he was seeking in the first place. *shrug*

Otherwise, we can finish inconclusively - a bit like life in general - and I can move on to the next bit, which will happen in a couple of days. After dark. You hear what I'm saying, Runzyl?

Oh yes, I'm waiting with baited breath. Actually, there's no reason we couldn't run that scene now while the bar scene plays out. I don't imagine Runzyl will be terribly talkative in his present state anyway.

Runzyl refuses the proffered beverage, requesting water instead and watches his allies' antics with mild detatchment. He does not chime in to give his own perspective (which is certainly strange behavior for the glory-seeking Valenar) and merely waits for Ezreal's reply to Lightbringer's query.

The Valenar waves Janosz off dismissively. "I said it was being dealt with," he states in a flat, almost-hostile tone.

Rodergo Xativa wrote:
"Runzyl, are you allright? I have a scroll that can do the trick, if you are sick." laughs nervously for a second at his inadvertant singsong statement.

Runzyl nods his head solemnly. "It is already being seen to, Flamebearer."

When the newcomers arrive, the elf quickly gauges them and raises an eyebrow at Ezreal. "Who are they?" he asks without bothering to offer greeting.

Runzyl appears at the appointed time and place, fully geared and ready as ever, though his appearance is somewhat... different. While he had always been lean, his features were ever-so-slightly drawn now, lending him a ghoulish aspect that was never evident before. He seemed as rigid as ever, however, nodding curtly at his companions when they arrived.

Aubrey:

Spoiler:
Runzyl nods, lowering his head in reverence to the weaponsmith.

"Yes, the sword speaks to me of a man named Galadaes. I wish to know more of him and the history of this weapon. My trance is troubled by visions of him and..." the elf trails off a moment, seeming to search for words. "Something within the sword revived me from the brink of death. Please, honored weaponmaster, tell me more of Falla Caesenri."

Spoiler:
I assume you'll let me know when I need to make my Fort saves? Or you can just make them for me behind the scenes and let me know if I need to knock a CON point off? With a +15 Fort save, this disease is going to have a hell of a time getting to Runzyl. :D
Runzyl, his simple mind unable to comprehend what is happening to him, seeks out the weaponsmith who gave him the blade. Perhaps, if the weapon possessed an ancestral spirit, he had done something to offend the ancestor. Surely the weaponsmith would know more of Falla Caesenri's past. In the morning, when the others of Caerlyn's Blade had gathered for breakfast, Runzyl hastily devours a few pieces of fruit and a muffin before setting out to Shae Lis, sword in hand.

Lightbringer wrote:
I’m happy to take Runzyl’s amulet +2.

I'll add the +4 to my sheet then. The +2 is all yours. Thanks!

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
Any thought about where you want to live? Clifftop, where you are now, seems a good choice as it has one of the city's adventurers' guilds and associated stuff like magic shoppes and whatnot.

Runzyl is content to shack up with the other Valenar. He has a lot of stories to tell now.

On the amulet: Runzyl currently has an amulet of health +2. I would appreciate the upgrade to a +4 if no one else is jumping on it and could then give my +2 amulet to whoever likes it. More HP and rage duration would be very handy.

When questioned about his dreams by Lightbringer, Runzyl replies guardedly.

"They are not dreams. Not dreams as I know them, at least. I see visions of a great warrior. Another elf named Galadaes. He is not of the Vallaes Tairn. I do not recognize his name from the songs of my people, but I feel that I have come to know him," the elf trails off, staring into space for a moment. "I must speak again with the man who sold me Falla Caesenri. I think it may have once belonged to Galadaes..."

Runzyl will seek out the man who sold him the sword in Sharn. He has little else to offer with regards to his dreams.

The Valenar simply ignites the leading edge of his double-scimitar and lets the flickering flames speak for him in response to the Flamebringer's request. He looks down at the weeping Cannith woman with no compassion evident in his features. He would kill her with but a gesture from the others, that much was clear.

Haven't invested much in Intimidate, but it's worth a shot: Nat 20! - 1 = 19. Hey! Not bad!

The Flamebearer's assent is all the Valenar needs. He nods to Selkatari and heads inside, drawing his weapon as he does so and calls for the prisoners.

Assuming the kalashtar and Selkatari permit (and the prisoners are unable to resist), Runzyl decapitates them without ceremony.

"You gave up your lives when you forfeited your souls."

Runzyl seems to barely grasp the vagaries of the kalashtar's explanation, but nods slowly at the end of the tale, particularly in response to the final note.

"If they have been possessed, then their spirits are already forfeit. It would be no different than smashing an empty box. There's nothing worth saving inside. Kill them."

Despite his unusual code of honor, Runzyl seems cold, even dispassionate at this statement.

Runzyl grudgingly thrusts the secretary forward as he exits the tent, an obvious look of displeasure on his face.

"I hope for your sake that the kalashtar can remove whatever demon holds your mind, woman. Else I will gut you when they fail."

Runzyl glances over the side of the walkway, as though giving consideration to tossing the secretary into it instead of taking her prisoner, but he complies with the opinions of his companions and escorts the prisoner into the tent along with Lightbringer.

Okay then, moving to the nearest square adjacent to the secretary.

Runzyl blazes an ash-strewn path through the webbing until at last he stands before the secretary, dropping Falla Caesenri (perhaps for the first time ever) and reaching forward to wrest her away from the prone Norn.

According to the grapple rules, if she's already grappling Norn, then my grapple check automatically succeeds and she gets no AoO. If not, then... Grapple: 16 + 12 = 28.

The Valenar wields his burning blade with wicked intent, wading into the webs and watching as they turn to ash around him.

Does it count as an attack action even though really just the PRESENCE of the flaming sword is burning the webbing away? If it doesn't count as an attack, I'd like to just burn myself a path and then drop the sword to grapple the secretary.

Rebuking the attempts to force him off his feet yet again, Runzyl tears into the Cannith woman with cold fury, his arms pumping back and forth as his blades whip in lethal arcs against Karile.

Attacks: 22, 29!(22), 17, 11, 13. 2 possible hits (but I think only 1). Damage: 10 (+4 fire), 6 (+1 fire, +9 if crit).

It looks like Janosz activated Runzyl's rage, so I'm going to run with the assumption that it's still on. STR check to resist Bull Rush: 13 + 6 = 19. By the way, where am I now?

Apologies for the absence, guys. I was horribly ill with some abdominal pains on Wednesday morning and went to the ER. Fortunately, my gallbladder hadn't ruptured (that was the doctor's first thought) but I did spend the majority of the next three days doped up on Vicodin and/or asleep. I'm back and functional again, with a significantly altered diet. Evidently I've got a rather ferocious ulcer growing. I'll live. Thanks for the NPCing, Janosz. :)

Runzyl braces against the force to no avail, being launched off the side of the catwalk and he lands with a rolling thud.

10 + 4 + 5 = 19. 2 points of damage. Now in D44. I don't suppose I can make a Tumble check to mitigate the damage? I do have ranks in it.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
Ack! The secretary has moved - she is menacing Janosz as we speak at the other end of the catwalk (E17). There are no targets within striking distance, but Karile is closest at E45. But you can obviously jump up and move, and a "Nya ha!" is not unwarranted under the circumstances.

Okay, stand and move to E44 then if I can. Can't make an attack though, so just ignore the roll.

The elf snaps awake with a sudden gasp of breath, sounding as though he'd just been kicked in the sternum. Hearing the sounds of combat all around him, he wastes no time in standing (which would provoke an AoO) to face the secretary he had been engaged with before.

A wicked glint in his eye and a half-crooked smile is all he offered the woman before lashing out again with the burning edge of his blade.

Standing up in E39 and attacking the secretary (who does not appear to have moved from where she was when I fell). Attack roll: 17 + 11 = 28. Damage: 15 (5 is fire).

Will save: 10 + 2 = 12. Even an AP won't save that one.

Runzyl's eyes go wide, not comprehending what is happening to him and his entire body falls like a ton of bricks onto the catwalk.

65 + 22 = 87. That's -18. Runzyl got what he's been looking for!

Runzyl's bravado is stolen away by the unnatural foe he faces. His weapon appeared to have no effect.

Accursed sorcery! These cowards fight without honor!

Still, he resigned himself to facing off against this adversary, calling out to his allies. "Some foul magics protect this woman from my blades!"

Runzyl quickly steps out onto the catwalk to face his opponent head on and delivers a quick flurry of slashes.

5' step to E39 to negate that pesky penalty for the handrail. Full attack on the secretary. 25, 27, 17, 14. No idea how many hit, so I'll do damage for all four in order (even though I'm reasonably certain the last two probably missed). Damage: 14 (5 is fire), 5, 18 (6 is fire), 10. The secretary is most definitely my Dodge target now.

Runzyl barely flinches, taking the hits with a sadistic grin.

"Finally, a fair fight," he clutches the scimitar and prepares to face his opponent... (on his initiative...)

Runzyl attempts to pull himself up onto the catwalk (at D39) near the women...

Climb: 10 + 6 + 1(Prayer) + 1(AP) = 18. Moving at 1/4 speed to avoid penalties. I... don't think that's successful. If I don't fall and can make a second attempt as my other move action this round, I will. Climb #2 (if possible): 19 + 6 + 1(Prayer) = 26.

Okay, I'll climb the machines at 1/2 speed with the scimitar. Climb: 16 + 7 - 5(speed) = 18. Then I run and jump to the catwalk: 12 + 14 = 26. I don't think I have enough movement to climb up the rest of the way this round. EDIT: I do, if I move half speed, but I don't want to risk a DC 22 climb check on my +2. :)

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
Remember you climb at 1/4 speed, unless you tyake a -5 in which case you climb at half speed. So you can do somethimg like that, but maybe not get quite so far along.

What do the Climb DCs look like to get up? If it's only DC 10, I will take the -5 (and still net a +1) and attempt it. That'll at least get me TO the catwalk, hanging precariously over the floor. Then next round I can spend 10' of movement to get up. Yes/no? Or, hell, how tall are the machines? I could just JUMP up?

Okay, here's what I would LIKE to do, Aubrey. Let me know what skill checks are needed and whether or not it's even POSSIBLE. I would like to first move to D28 (15') and then climb onto the machinery in D29. Once on top of the machinery, I would like to continue running along the machinery to D36 (35'). With my running start, then, I would like to JUMP from D36 to the catwalk at D39, grabbing onto it and climbing up if necessary (another 15'). Total distance is 65' plus maybe another 5' from climbing onto the machinery and an additional 5' for climbing up onto the catwalk, meaning that total is 75', still well within a double-move for me. Can I do it? Or is the catwalk too high?

Rodergo Xativa wrote:
or,....until I bust out with this scroll of lesser restoration.

That would kick much ass if this encounter isn't actually over yet.

With no threats immediately evident, the elven berserker cools down, taking a moment to assess his injuries (which he discovers to be non-existant) and scan the surroundings.

Frenzy ends this round. Runzyl is now fatigued for the remainder of the encounter. Consider me to be taking 10 on Spot/Listen or whatever. No other actions this round.

Janosz Frogshanks wrote:
Just one left - the guy who attacked you. He's in C24.

Awesome. He's a dead man.

Runzyl turns on his attacker, blades whipping around with incomprehensible speed, landing numerous savage hits in rapid succession.

I'm not gonna write out all the math for this. Attack totals: 23, 15, 30!(25 to confirm), 22, 10, 26. Looks like 4 hits, 1 probable crit. Damage: 14, 15(27 if crit), 13, 5. Take that, bastard. :D

I'm a bit lost here... is there still a 'forged standing in B26?

Lightbringer wrote:

C’mon, surely Fatespinner the player of wizards knows the answer to that one!

My understanding is that it adds +30 ft to your speed; it does not double your move.

I knew that the spell SAID +30', but Aubrey said 'double' so I was clarifying. The DM can always overrule the book. :)

Runzyl dashes ahead, invigorated by the fall of the titan.

Move to C25. Here's a question... that's a 75' move for me. If haste DOUBLES my move, I can still attack after that. If haste only gives +30', then I cannot. So, if I CAN attack, I will swing at the B26 warforged: 6 + 12 + 1 = AC 19. If hit: 6 + 5 + 10 = 21 damage. If not, I stop in C25. Oh, I'm not sure if I need a Jump check to get off the machinery or not. If so: 15 + 15 = 30. Round 4 of 6 for Whirling Frenzy.

Have to wait until I get home to check the map for positions. Flickr's blocked at work now. :(

Runzyl gives another shout, hacking furiously away at the juggernaut before him with the blazing edge of his ancestral weapon.

Still hasted, still raging. Attacks on the titan: 33, 18, 16, 17. Probably only 1 hit. 18 damage (only 2 of which is fire).

I made a 5' step to F11 last round. Is that still on the machinery? If so, Balance: 17 + 4 + 1(Prayer) = 22.

Accelerated by Ezreal's spell, Runzyl thrashes against the titan.

Another full attack on the titan. Attack rolls: 24, 19, 18, 17. Probably only one hit (if that). Damage: 20 (4 of which is fire). The titan is now my Dodge target, for what it's worth, putting my AC against it up to 24.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
Yes, the fire damage does matter. By the way, you need to make a Balance check each round while on the machine - you can still make a 5' move if you want.

5' step to F11 then. AoO roll: 15. Probably a miss.

Balance: 11 + 4 + 1(Prayer) = 16. Double-phew!

The elf quickly avoids being swept away by the machinery and brings the blazing end of his weapon crashing down on the titan in rapid succession with the remote hope of stopping it from acting again.

Activating Whirling Frenzy (actually haven't used it today!). Full attack action, wielding the blade 2-handed. Attack #1: 33 (wasted a nat 20 on a construct). Attack #2: 19. Attack #3: 18. Damage #1: 17. Damage #2: 16. Damage #3: 13. Adjust for DR accordingly. The 'fire' portion of those three hits are 5, 2, 2 respectively if it matters.

Reflex: 12 + 7 + 1(Prayer) = 20. I assume I still take the 18 damage even though I made the save? Or is it halved or something?

The elf hesitates a moment, glancing at his weapon and then to the juggernaut to his right. He grits his teeth and takes a flying leap over the edge of the catwalk, gripping his sword with both hands and brings it crashing down onto the mechanical horror with a ferocious battle cry.

"Lle a gurtha ar'thar!"*

Jumping down to land on the machinery in F12. Jump: 8 + 12 = 20. While airborne, a two-handed attack on the titan. Attack: 5 + 12 + 1(Prayer) + 1(AP) = 19. If it hits, damage: 2 + 5(flaming) + 8 + 2(Bladebearer of the Valenar) = 17. The titan is my new Dodge target. I may have an additional +1 to hit if I can claim higher ground. If the titan is as tall as the catwalk, though, so much for that.

*Elven:

Spoiler:
"To death and beyond!"

Steadying his weapon before him, Runzyl begins his relentless advance into the warforged before him, blades whipping around in blazing arcs.

Full attack action against the E12 'forged. If any of these attacks drop E12, I will 5' step into E12 and continue the remaining attacks against E13. Atk #1: 14 + 11 = 25. Atk #2: 20! + 11 = 31 (crit confirm: 15 + 11 = 26). Atk #3: 19 + 6 = 25 (crit confirm: 15 + 6 = 21). Atk #4: 3 + 6 = 9. Dmg #1: 6 + 2 + 7 = 15. Dmg #2: 2 + 4 = 6 (12 if crit). Dmg #3: 2 + 5 + 7 = 14 (23 if crit). Atk #4 almost certainly missed.

Seeing the warforged strategy developing, alternating "fresh" targets at the front lines, Runzyl grits his teeth and draws his weapon before hurling himself forward past Lightbringer, slamming his shoulder into the front warforged.

Overrun on the 'forged in E10. Moving from E7 to the recently vacated E11. STR check: 5 + 5 + 1(Prayer) + 6(AP) = 17. The 'forged needs to beat a 17 STR or DEX check (with his -1 from Prayer) or be knocked prone. Of course, he could just choose to avoid me and let me land an attack on him with flanking... but I feel that's unlikely. :) Oh, he also gets an AoO but I have Mobility, so AC 24 (or 25 if he's evil). My Dodge target will be the one in E12 (since I smell a full attack coming from him in my future).

Craptastic init. 2 + 4 = 6.

I'd be stupid to say no to +2 to hit and damage. Hook me up with some bull's strength come showdown time. ;)
