Akahale Gilbrid wrote: The dragonborn hisses slightly at the sight of the defaced statue.
"Ahh! Father - look at this and tell me this is the work of the light. We have a clue. Sure evidence of ... something."
"Hmm odd," Rowan says after a moment.
Nature check rolled a7+1 for 8 to identify the types of trees in this grovw, then Religion rolled a 14 for a total of 23 to discern which of the faiths would be most likely to do that sort of damage to a shrine of Melora, a History check rolled a 7 for a total of 11 to rember any similar event and finally a Perception check to see if there's anyone lurking around watching us or especially about to ambush us let me know if I need to make an Insight check though...
Akahale Gilbrid wrote: "I would like to renew my acquaintance with shrimp," Akahale continues in reminiscent mood, "but perhaps the beach should wait. The grove of trees now, that seems interesting. Shall we walk that way?"
If Rowan agrees, they'll stroll towards the interesting clump of trees at 4, taking a look at whatever 2 is on the way.
"Good enough place to start," Rowan agrees thinking as long as there's no lightning it might make a good place to shelter from the rain if not the wind...
Fabes DM wrote: Wow, you guys have posted loads! Sorry for the delay - I was away from my PC, and thus the adventure pdf, for all of yesterday. Poor Akahale and Rowan will receive a town map at some point, and the rest of you will have a chance to interact with the other inn guests. Yes I was struggling to keep up and well... stay on the chair with all the hijinks going on!
Akahale Gilbrid wrote: "As a hatchling I loved paddling. We took nets and hunted for shrimp. Cunning adversaries. Perhaps if the weather clears, I might do so again."
Akahale sounds almost wistful.
"I wonder what type of fish they sell, maybe someone there will know of a good place for hunting shrimp?" Rowan suggests wondering what kind of shrimp could be considered that cunning and then shrugs off an image of a giant sized shrimp with several dragonborn hunting it...

Akahale Gilbrid wrote: Rowan Darkwinter wrote:
"I have to admit I had always wondered why I never seemed to linger in fishing communities, well I now remember why," Rowan quipped.
"I just hope thats the worst of it," Rowan shivers in the cold as they look around.
Akahale stands in the streaming rain as the gale pounds around them.
"I doubt that Rowan. We were not sent here to sample the healthful air. If it is heathful. I share your sentiments. The smell makes me feel remarkably sick."
It's not really possible for a dragonborn to turn pale, but if he could, the combination of foul weather and the great scent of fish would be making him look decidedly seedy.
"Onwards. Let us seek beyond the smell for evil worthy of our attention. I need to be thoroughly tired, sleeping is going to be difficult. Have you ever occupied a room with Manfred before, Father? I assure you, he and Seram are not restful companions. Grafire I regret has impacted sinuses and snores loudly. It is mercifully devoid of the need for sleep. Truly an excellent companion."
And so, oh DM, where can we go on this dark and stormy night in Ashenport? "So left, right or straight ahead unless that isn't an alleyway ahead of us containing unknown evil and an overflowing sewer thats if this place has a working sewer system..." Rowan gestures in the directions he was suggesting.
Streetwise check?
Rolled a 14+6 for 20 will double check to be sure though and yes it is a +6 to the roll not sure if I can since we're newcomers
Akahale Gilbrid wrote: Akahale smiles slightly as Manny's scramble takes him across the floor.
"Sometimes that which is lost cannot be found again." he comments to Rowan. "Not even behind the dank sofas of the mind. I think our mage has found other treasures in his brain that push the practical issues of his life aside. Shall we go?"
"Certainly" replies Rowan still a little gobsmacked at Manny scrambling to pick up his marbles.
[quote=] He leads the way into the rain-sodden streets of Ashenport. The all-pervading scent of fish fills the air as he looks up and down the village, hoping for something to capture his attention and alert his ever-present investigative sense.
"I believe in instinct." "I have to admit I had always wondered why I never seemed to linger in fishing communities, well I now remember why," Rowan quipped.
"I just hope thats the worst of it," Rowan shivers in the cold as they look around.
Akahale Gilbrid wrote: "I will pay." Akahale counts out the coins. "Additional blankets would be most welcome. I propose to sleep on the floor."
Akahale also proposes to wrap his head in extra blankets to keep out the inevitable noise.
"Father Rowan, would you care to join me on an evening constitutional to look at the town before we join the others for a meal?"
"Certainly if nothing else it will prepare us for the evening's repast," Rowan replied.
Fabes DM wrote: Manelda laughs at Rowan, "Oh, you're a one! Not going to say no to a nice stone, but I think the boss would prefer coins; he's a sour one is ol' Pioter. Don't tell him I said that!" she smiles.
And then all business, "Will you be paying for them all, sir?" she asks Rowan.
"Well I was hoping to convert some first but it looks like that will have to wait until the morning so unless one of you have the coins to oblige the young lady I guess I'll need to see if your boss will accept these as legal tender?" Rowan asks the others whom if they don't respond assume Rowan will check with the owner to see whether he'll accept a gem or two to pay for the rooms for a couple of days.
Wasn't expecting to need coins planned to cope for encumberance guess thats something I need to doublecheck in the future!
Fabes DM wrote: Before going to the room, Manelda indicates that the first night will need to be paid for upfront, "That'll be, now there are 6 of you? So, that's 13 gold and 2 silver altogether, sir. Your meals, you pay for separate to that."
She shows him to the room, "Here we are then sir, one of our best ones but not our biggest, I'm afraid. Still, we'll give you some blankets if you don't have some for them as will sleep on the floor."
"Do you accept gems or prefer coinage?" he asks her on the matter of paying for the rooms.
Akahale Gilbrid wrote: Grafire Serpenthelm wrote: We haven't heard from the cleric yet. I hope my powers of healing will be enough. If he doesn't make it I might request to change a power or 2 from attack to healing. Our cleric is alive and well and strolling the streets of Ashenport. Check out the game thread, he is with us. And I'm thoroughly enjoying the eccentric wizard's responses...

"There, THAT's better! Now, where were we?"
"Food, drink, a place to sleep and wondering whats going to hit the floor first, if I remember rightly," Rowan frowns counting the fingers on one hand.
"But I'm hoping the last one doesn't take place until well into tomorrow," Rowan adds looking around for either signs of a menu board which if not visible will head to the bar to find out whats available to eat and drink although he does believe Seram has covered that last part already.
"My, I wonder what's on the menu tonight in this fine establishment?" Rowan asks Seram as Rowan rubs his hands together to rid them of the cold from outside.
Passive Insight is 22, passive perception is 24 and diplomacy check rolled an 8 for a total of 19 since everyone is feeling on edge at the present so whoever is in the inn at the moment isn't feeling the party's current mood of suspicion and paranoia and yes they're probably right but it isn't necessary for the bad guys to realise that yet...
Akahale Gilbrid wrote: Akahale stops a random man and bows slightly.
"Good day. We are newly arrived for the fair and wonder if you could suggest a hostelry of some description. My friend would appreciate a drink and we will need to find somewhere to stay."
"What he said and hello!" Rowan greets the man Akahale has stopped wondering if the fair was going to mean the inn was fully booked.
Diplomacy check rolled an 11+11 for 22

Between the heavy clouds and the endless rain, you might as well be blind. In the occasional flash of lightning, however, as the rain is forced aside by a gust of wind, you can barely make out the road ahead. A veritable river of mud twists and winds through a copse of gnarled trees and along a rocky coastline battered by white-capped swells.
And beyond, visible in only the brightest thunderbolts, stands a town. From what you can see, the buildings are old and patched, and the roofs are shingled peaks. Just another village, it seems, but something about it sets your teeth on edge and your skin crawling. But then perhaps it is just the cold and the rain... "Hmm all I know about the place is that its been here for generations, where most of the towns on the coast have been abandoned or forgotten its been a thriving fishing village makes me wonder what was here before it and much more importantly is how its lasted so long, perhaps this fair of their's is part of its vitality or perhaps not still these storms are apparently common to its location though," Rowan mutters a little at odds with the foul weather.
It wrote: Akahale Gilbrid wrote: "Do any of you know anything about Ashenport? I have never heard of this trading fair." "It has never been to Ashenport."
For the light, think Iron Man ;-) "Hmm interesting point," Rowan added.
Making a History check if thats valid rolled a 19+4 for 23 for knowledge of Ashenport, if its that skill that is I'd include the others but History looks the lowest of the possible choices, would you rather make this roll by the way?
Seram Zal wrote: Seram walks quietly with the group. Wondering if anyone worth his time is in Ashenport. The last few months had been dull for the barbarian. During his time in Drachenholme he hadn't found one person worthy, or brave enough to fight.
"So how long is this little trip gonna take," finally breaking his silence.
"Hopefully sooner rather than later," Rowan replied sighing.
"Sorry Seram with luck we'll be there soon unless someone makes the mistake of crossing our paths and relieving that itch you want scratched," Rowan shrugged.
The cold winter wind and bright sunshine seemed at odds but quite normal for this time of year however he hoped the omen it posed meant better fortune for them.
"This place that trinket came from isn't there some legend about tieflings seeking it to reclaim their lost empire?" Rowan asked the others.
"I wonder what has happened at this fair and what it means to the rest of us?" he ponders.
"Interesting puzzle indeed," he muses as they travel onwards.
I wonder if that makes me shaggy? Oh I forgot I don't have the run feat...

FabesMinis wrote: I really would rather stick with characters native to the world, I'm afraid. So no Faerunians.
The world is the one alluded to in the PHB and DMG and associated Wizards of the Coast materials- i.e. there was an Empire of Nerath that was predominately human but united all the races together peacefully. This empire fell roughly a century ago to external pressures (marauding tribes of gnolls, goblins etc). Warforged were created as a last ditch weapon of war to prevent further loss of life, but their gaining of sentience but a new spin on things.
Centuries ago, there were two empires , one of tieflings, one of dragonborn. They went to war. Essentially, they both lost, and their empires collapsed. Nowadays, hardly anyone knows about this war, and dragonborn and tieflings get on fine in general.
Eladrin are a familiar enough sight, if not common, as are elves. The loss of elven homelands has pushed them more and more into human towns, and the dwarves are coming down out of their mountains, both to trade and through the loss of their holds to enemies.
It is a dark age between the fall of one empire and the rise of the next, whenever and whatever that might be.
You are points of light in this darkness.
Okay so here goes;
A former soldier and a cleric, Rowan spent most of his childhood in the military before being discharged where he returned to the life of a simple healer in the service of Bahamut, however matters have come to a head where he needs to don his scale armour and draw forth his sword and shield to help defend the innocent from the darkness once more.
No longer the youthful naive warrior cleric he was, Rowan now sees himself as defending not only his faith but also the hopes and dreasm of the next generation of heroes to inspire the founding of the next Nerath Empire.

I was going for a Cleric from Faerun but it looks a though its not that setting do you mind if I simply explain my cleric arrived and is trying to adjust to the fact he doesn't recognise the surroundings at all?
My original idea was using a character I played back in 3.0 which was a cleric of helm and using the idea he had disappeared years before the spell plague only to be accidentally ressurected as a result of an artefact being dropped and touching him, however most of his original gear was either stolen or unlike him didn't survive the shift in time forcing him to make do with spares until he could restart and has barely recovered from his return to life having had to relearn practially everything he once knew becoming a cleric of bahamut because it had been a member of Bahamut's faith who helped him back to town after his resurrection.
Any details about the game world if its not Faerun?
If this is the case if you don't mind he arrived on the campaign world a few years ago and was found by a member of Bahamut's faith having lost his memories of his past life resulting in him trying to relearn what he has lost and became a cleric of Bahamut believing its the path he wants to follow...
