Yes, I actually didn't have Past Event for Eli listed, so I rolled one randomly, Ellipsis, and came up with The Lion and the Wolf. It is just one possibility, if you would prefer to re-roll, or even pick another that better depicts Brother Eli, just let me know, that is perfectly fine. The Space Marines in this Kill-Team seem to have pretty high Fellowship scores overall, but this can just as easily be reflected in force of personality, leadership skill and other aspects. This will aid the group overall when alternating leaders. Making Eli more of a loner type works for me, it may even open up some other interesting roleplaying ideas down the road in this campaign. Excellent write-up, Eradico. This is exactly what I am looking for. Also, never worry about too long, as a GM I love reading player-generated background. It helps me understand the nuances of the character better. I'm also of the opinion that the prejudices the Black Templars have against psykers should be minimized to an extent that the characters can get along, and I think your explanation is a great way to justify a more moderate approach. I particularly like how Emeric feels a certain guilt for his tolerance. Obviously the Khamrian idea works well with being seconded to the Deathwatch, and I can see plenty of opportunities to use this in connection to the Ordo Xenos and the current campaign. Good stuff. Phew, shoveling is finally done. Thanks again for listing your advances. I posted the updated sheets to the wiki, so please give them the once-over again. Overall the sheets look ready to go. There seems to be a bug with CutePDF filler not resizing font-size for formatted cells, I'll adjust those sheets from work with the full Adobe program (which I do not have at home) to fix this. Eradico, I should also be able to do strike-throughs for those marines without particular organs from the full software suite, I'll give it a shot tomorrow. Do you guys prefer the +20 to Strength for the power armor to be added on the sheet in the Strength characteristic block (i.e. 42 Str reads as 62 in the characteristic block) or not? Currently only Brother Emeric is formatted this way. Armor is worn most of the time, so I'm leaning toward showing it, let me know what you all think. Here is the final Kill-Team, after character creation:
It looks as though there is a really good mix here. Brother Quintus and Brother Caledonii look pretty well optimized for leadership roles and fire support, the specialists are covered in Brother Sepheren (Medicae) and Brother Emeric (Technical), the team psyker, Brother Lyriel, and team stealth/infiltration specialist, Brother Eli, represent the Dark Angels as the only repeated chapter, and Brother Hrothgar comes in as the take no prisoners close assault expert. Based on the Chapters, personalities, and roleplaying preferences of the players involved, we can start formulating the Kill-Team dynamic. Remember, as a newly formed Deathwatch squad, thrust together from chapters with vastly different traditions and beliefs, you now have to learn to function as a unit. Are the Dark Angel's marines known to eachother? Are they aloof and secretive? Does Brother Emeric resent or frown on the warp-tainted Librarian he is forced into battle with? Will Brother Hrothgar see the Dark Angel's as rivals? Is the fact that Brother Eli was once in ceremonial single combat with one of his brethren (or perhaps Hrothgar himself?) a point of friendship or contention? Does Brother Quintus have a degree of rivalry with Brother Caledonii for the hearts and minds of the Kill-Team as two of the more qualified leaders? Is Brother Sepheren, as both Apothecary and Blood Angel, and susceptible to the Red Thirst and bloody rages someone you want ministering to your well-being when you've been shot? (Joking on this one, Davi, LOL) I'll open things here to general discussion on this topic. Once everyone is feeling good about where things are, I will give everyone a short character survey and then construct the individual character info capsules similarly to how we did the Dark Heresy campaign wiki. OK guys, now that you've had some time to make a first pass over the completed sheets, I'll list out the information that I still need. As always, some of this may be my mistake, as vetting seven sheets and comparing them to the Paizo profile posts with different formatting for the character information you sometimes miss the smaller details. OK, here is what I have so far:
Everyone should also double-check that any Chapter specific characteristic advances were added in. Finally, if everyone could summarize in a post what advances they initially took, and from what category (i.e. Chapter Advance, Specialty Advance, etc.) that would help greatly. I am going to be keeping a separate spreadsheet with the advances for each character to track them. With so many advance tables it will be better to keep things organized ahead of the game. I appreciate it, as it will save me some digging. Once we get this out of the way we can start talking history, personalities, and relationships between the Kill-Team members. "They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay, I shall mold them, and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies, and machines such that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity." "They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear." ~ Prelude, The Codex Asartes [Apocrypha of Skaros] Please Read Before Posting:
This is the Deathwatch: Sons of Jericho In Character thread. The game is currently full. This post is a place-holder until play begins. To those interested in the game, please do not post here, but instead refer yourself to the Deathwatch: Sons of Jericho OOC thread, as lurkers or potential alternates are always welcome. To my players, play will begin soon, and will commence after I submit the second post here. The Emperor Protects! The Emperor Protects! Welcome to the Deathwatch: Sons of Jericho Campaign. This thread will serve as the out of character posting for present and future players for the duration of the campaign. Currently the game is full, but feel free to monitor this thread for any developments in the player roster. Please use this posting to discuss Deathwatch rules, character advancement/concepting, and other assorted Blather. Below are listed the GM's formatting preferences for posting on the IC thread:
There are only two rules for this campaign: 1. Have fun!
Below are listed convenient links to the campaign pages: Deathwatch: Sons of Jericho IC Thread
Thanks for the chuckle, Eradico! Seriously though, 10 inches today, another 10-15 inches tomorrow plus freezing rain to top it off by late afternoon. Winter, I surrender. (I particularly need the +20 to Lower Back) OK, I have finished transferring the Deathwatch characters to the pdf sheets and will be posting them on the wiki tonight. I will also be posting the Sons of Jericho OOC thread once this is completed so that we can begin character/campaign discussion. I vetted the sheets with a quick once over and did notice some omissions but overall you guys were pretty thorough, so thanks! Will post the information I still need on the DW OOC thread once it is up. Thanks Eradico! There will be more to come as we gain content, I'll start posting the characters as soon as I finish them so they can be vetted for errors. For now the categories on the navigation area are pretty self-explanatory (Battle-Brothers, Dramatis Personae) if you have seen the Oremor Affliction wiki. The Omega Vault will be the equivalent of the Dataslate Archives, housing all of the miscellaneous lore of the campaign. The Tower of Brass (named for the Inquisitorial Bastion on Watch Station Erioch) will be used to help track Mission Objectives, Cohesion, Requisition, Renown, and Squad/Solo data. The Mission Log will be just that, a timeline coupled with a place to post in character descriptions of events so far. If anyone can think of another category or page they would like to see, please let me know. I plan on posting the Deathwatch: Sons of Jericho OOC thread tonight, as well, so that we can start fleshing out character history/personalities/relationships, and brainstorm ideas to tie things into the Emperor Protects campaign arc. I'll factor that in Ellipsis, the Deathwatch characters should be posted soon, everyone. I'm pleased to announce that the new version of the Dark Heresy character sheets have been posted to the Oremor Affliction wiki. I think they are a vast improvement of the old sheets. I am fairly certain they are all accurate, but please take a moment to verify that they are correct and that nothing has been omitted or changed. The first batch includes the active players, Savalos, Uriah, Iacton, Vincent, and Kaltos. I will be adding new sheets for Johnnie and the NPC characters over the next week as I finish them. Eradico Pravus wrote:
No need to worry Eradico, I made most of the adjustments already (I forgot about the Giant Among Men section also, will change that now). I have been busy putting the finishing touches on the DW characters and will be uploading them to the Sons of Jericho wiki for review soon, so you can spot any mistakes I made (a second set of eyes always helps). I've also completed a new form-field DH character sheet for the Oremor Affliction characters based off the Ascension-style character folio, truly a labor of mind-numbing love (Lorm should be especially happy, as there are two pages reserved for psychic powers!). I am in the process of converting the DH characters to this format, a huge improvement on the limits of the existing sheet. I should also have those completed shortly. Sorry to leave everyone in suspense for the time being in the DH game, but I want to get the bulk of this work out of the way well before we begin the Deathwatch game. My free time has been in short supply so far this week, so my posting may be spotty for a bit while I complete these other tasks. Getting some DH bookkeeping done tonight as well as finishing transfers of the Deathwatch characters to the pdf sheet. Deathwatch OOC will be going up this week for character discussion (background/history, personality, relationships with the other members of the Kill-Team) along with the character capsules being officially posted to the wiki. We are still on target for an early February start to the campaign. As for the Oremor Affliction NPC character advances: Albrek: Intimidate 100
Ivaanov: Intermediate Int 250 (50 reserved) OK, Kaltos. I also neglected to add your free Elite Advance from the last round of XP. Since you were still considering between Basic Weapon Training (Bolt) and Heavy Weapon Training (Las) pending the results of the procurement of gear from Dunkan, I gave you Basic Weapon Training (Bolt) even though you didn't manage to obtain a bolt weapon, you are probably more likely to find one of these before a man portable Las-Cannon. If you prefer to change this advance to something else, please let me know and I'll adjust your sheet. I'll be making up for the missed day of posts tonight, we got walloped by another storm and I've been digging out since yesterday. Shoveling fatigue set in last night, and I decided I would be better served doing some data checking/entry on the Deathwatch characters. I also posted updated sheets for Savalos, Uriah, Iacton, and Vincent. You will notice that your most recent advances are not on the sheets. This is simple because we have run out of space! I have found a long version of the Dark Heresy sheet I plan to convert to form-field this week, and will share it and update the characters with it on the wiki as I finish them. Caledonii looks good, and just as a reminder, you have 300XP to spend with Kaltos. To answer Radavel, I would probably advance a DH Assassin to Rank 8 and pick one the more interesting career enhancement options they have. Iacton wrote:
Uriah should have enough muscle with him if Iacton would prefer to get out ahead of things in tracking down Leprade, just give me an idea of what you would like to do. I imagine he will want to attend the war council, though, as he is likely will play a pivotal role in dealing with the corrupted Arbites. Lorm Dragonheart wrote: Rook, if Davi doesn't mind, since you are about to switch scenes and move on, I wouldn't mind if you went full descriptive mode about us going into the lair. You know our characters well enough that you can play it out. If you have a specific question, you can always E-mail us. Lorm, I received your email and responded. You read my mind on the Auldmaw's lair, and I totally agree. I will resolve it with a little bit of narrative since what occurs will not actually place anyone in peril. This will allow Savalos time to get things resolved with the Duct Wolves and the three of you to attend the war council (which is the next major scene) together. If you have any questions that occur about what happens, just add a post and we'll resolve it extemporaneously. I just want to point everyone to the Scriptorium Chronicle campaign journal post that Bal just submitted, as it is excellent. You guys continue to inspire me in this game, and these internal dialogues and asides help me to direct where the campaign is going. I'd also like to get in a sense via the OOC thread of what direction the acolytes will be taking now. Obviously Kaltos isn't in charge of his own destination at the moment, and Vincent is still trying to survive in the claustrum, but everyone else has some options as pointed out in Savalos' last post. So, Davi, Bal, Lorm, what do you think should be next for the acolytes? Investigate the Auldmaw's den?
I'll be setting up a scene today where you discuss your ideas in character, but wanted to give you an opportunity to hash things out in advance. One thing that you want to remember, is you now have enough resources at your disposal to delegate certain tasks if you so choose. After all, what fun would it be being an Inquisitor's proxy if you couldn't leverage your power? Lorm Dragonheart wrote: Rook, I was checking my character sheet on the Wiki, and I noticed you do not mark me as trained for Scrutiny, my Elite Advance. I will rectify it Lorm, thanks. The problem sometimes with the wiki is that it does not always update my changes unless I delete and re-upload the file. If I go the quick route and try the overwrite, the changes do not always 'stick'. My master copies of each character are on my home PC's hard drive. I should have everyone's sheets updated by this evenings posts, if anyone else sees something awry, please let me know. Eradico Pravus wrote:
That would be great Eradico, every little bit helps. The checkbox thing was driving me crazy for a bit, but then I realized I could increase the font size on the options and use a square as the check symbol and it improved things greatly. Eradico Pravus wrote:
Certainly, reading the background on the Jericho Reach can only enhance your enjoyment of the setting, there aren't a lot of big spoiler secrets in the history (that I encountered at least) and as long as you can stay 'in character' knowledge-wise, I'd actually prefer it. You guys contribute to the story as much as me, and this can only help. I do ask that you forgo reading the sample adventure though, as that might end up being my lead-in for the Emperor Protects campaign. Eradico Pravus wrote:
I'll be honest with you, I have re-read the squad-mode/solo-mode/Cohesion rules a couple of times since announcing the campaign. It is isn't the simplest mechanic, but we'll learn as we go, and should have it down once it really matters. I personally think the tough part will be tracking modes in PbP, so I've started to think about what kind of tagging we can do in posts during combat. I am also open to recommendations. Lorm has the right idea. OK, I re-posted the Deathwatch character sheet to the Sons of Jericho wiki to correct a problem with the check boxes not filling completely. Also Eradico, I received your sheet and the associated files, everything looks great. I will copy over your data to the new sheet. OK, for anyone who wants to transfer their Deathwatch character over to a writable .pdf sheet, here they are: Autoquill Repository You will likely need a copy of CutePDF Formfiller to save your data in the form, it can be found as freeware here: CutePDF Please save a copy for your own use and email me one for the wiki I believe all of the form-fields and tab settings on the forms are correct, but if you encounter any problems with them let me know and I will correct them. Brother Emeric wrote:
No need to fill out the .pdf yet, Eradico. My inner OCD took over last night during my endless shift and I made my own form-field sheet off the one from the website. I also did a form-field for the Solo/Squad mode sheet from the core book. I will post links to them on the wiki later today, and you can back-fill the sheet then if you want. Please spend the 1,000 points of discretionary XP you get at character creation, but please note here what you spend the advances on. I am planning on keeping a separate master sheet to track advances for everyone, as with all of the advance tables in Deatwatch things can overlap a bit. OK Rad, I'll note it in the final sheet. Since the characters are rolling in now, I will soon be compiling them and posting them to the wiki for review. I am at work for a double shift today (Snowpocalypse in New England right now), so do not have ready access to the core rule book, but hope to have them up for the weekend. Once I get some downtime here I'll post some Oremor Affliction (including Vincent's post that got eaten yesterday) and start transferring stats to .pdf sheets for DH. One consistent beef (that I share) is the lack of good avatars on Paizo for this sort of thing, so if anyone has an alternate piece of art to depict their character, please feel free to email it to me Spoiler: and I will use it for the character dossiers on the wiki.
rookseye at yahoo dot com The Kill-Team Roster so far: Brother Hrothgar, Space Wolf Assault Marine (Radavel)
The chapter rivalries are rife with roleplaying opportunities. Thanks, Eradico, that sheet looks pretty good for our needs. I was debating whether or not to do a form-field of the official sheet like I did with the DH ones, but this should save me some work. Once everyone has completed character generation, I will fill out the sheets with the information and post them to the wiki with some early campaign background. Lorm Dragonheart wrote: Hey Balfic, Uriah tried to save Savalos' mom. He even spent a FP, and gained a CP doing it. It was a worthy effort, Lorm, but Ariella was more a casualty of the story at this point than anything else. She'll live on in Savalos' memory (and in Uriah, after a fashion, as you will soon see.) Eradico Pravus wrote:
Looks pretty complete to me, a nice kill-team forming up. Eradico Pravus wrote:
Eradico, unfortunately the Emperor Protects doesn't appear to have any additional Chapters. I'm guessing the next book in the series, Rites of Battle, will be the equivalent of the Inquisitor's Handbook, and have some new character options. I'm not averse to generating abilities and such if you have your heart set on another chapter or successor chapter that is not listed, but would like to keep it limited to one or two characters in the group. The Lexicanum provides a wealth of information about the various chapters of the Adeptus Astartes, and although I will admit I am not as steeped in some chapters' lore as I could be, I'll make the effort to do so if it is someone preference to build their own. With a resume like that and such a high level of enthusiasm, I could hardly refuse (I'm also highly susceptible to flattery, like most GM's/DM's) so Eradico, welcome aboard! I'm glad I was able to justify another person buying Deathwatch, its a great game. We're a long-term campaign group, and I fully expect to finish both campaigns (eventually, of course) so please know that in advance (that is not to say you'll never have an out if you choose, space marine mortality rates, from evidence I have seen, are rather high). I'll be reposting them eventually to the Deathwatch OOC thread, but you can find the basic campaign rules at the beginning of this thread as well. They pretty much stand as written with the exception of solely using Invisible Castle for rolls, as the Paizo boards now have a fairly robust die roller. Looks like we'll be looking at a Magnificent Seven of space marines, somehow this seems apropos. No rush at all, Bal. I still have plenty on my end to do for prep so everyone has plenty of time to flesh out their characters. Bal:
You had me a little worried there after seeing your FB post, glad to see you are staying on! Now that the craziness of the holidays is behind me, I actually might get some free time to start these things, lol. I'm glad you all feel that way. I think Iacton has the right idea. My plan then will to be slow things down for a week or two in the Dark Heresy campaign once we begin the IC posting for the Deathwatch game so that we can get a running start, but I will continue to post to both. Once Ellipsis settles on a character for the Deathwatch game we should be set. Him being the sixth would eliminate the need for recruiting. As far as the Oremor Affliction goes, I hope to have poor Vincent off the 'solo game' he has been trapped on for the last several months fairly soon. Rad should be entering again before long, too. My main goal right now is to resolve the Auldmaw/Duct Wolves scene, for good or for ill. Once the dust settles it will allow the acolytes to settle upon the next step in their plan. Happy New Year, everyone! I'll admit that all of the 'ones' in the foreshortened date (1/1/11) suggest a new beginning to me, so I'll talk a little bit about the Deathwatch campaign. I received The Emperor Protects in the mail a few days ago and it is quite good so far. It looks like this will be a really enjoyable adventure arc to run. The overall tone and feel of Deathwatch is quite distinct from either Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader, being more militantly focused, but good storytelling is good storytelling, and the whole "Band of Brothers meets Warhammer 40,000" feel suggests a lot of good roleplay opportunities. This should be a good one. In the coming week I'll be settling down to expand the Sons of Jericho wiki and creating the IC and OOC posts, and possibly Recruiting if needed. I hate to set deadlines for myself (mostly because I invariably miss them) but I'd like to set a conservative estimated start date for the end of January/beginning of February. A lot of it depends on the timing on character creation, as one major advantage of having a ready-made adventure is that it decreases GM prep-time for creating the story and NPC capsules a great deal. I plan on continuing The Oremor Affliction concurrently (or at least until I hear from you guys that you've had enough of my incredibly convoluted little tale) but was wondering if anyone thinks I should call a hiatus at a convenient story point in the coming month so that we can focus on getting Sons of Jericho off the ground. What do you think? I am fine either way, but would like to hear your input on this both the Deathwatch campaign and our current Dark Heresy adventure. I'll vet the characters once they have all been completed, but on first pass Brother Quintus looks good, Lorm. Finding new alias pics for avatars is hard for a game like DW, even with 35+ pages. I feel your pain. Rad: Space Wolf Assault Marine fills a role, and is a worthy alternate. Bring on the lightning claws. Hi again, Rad. Thanks again for being patient while events unfold in this game, I promise to get you back into action soon. As far as the number of players for the Deathwatch game goes, I'm offering spot to everyone in the DH game who wants a spot first, and will consider recruiting following that. I'd prefer no more than six players though, just to make managing the game a little easier. Lorm, we'll be generating new characters for this game, not pre-gens, and I'll probably use published material for the adventures, at least at first. I have a copy of The Emperor Protects coming and would like to work this book into a campaign arc of some kind. For those who don't own the core book in the current game and who still want to play, using one of the pre-gens from the free pdf's on the FFG website, altered of course with your own personalization is fine to start. The book is excellent and comes highly recommended though, and would be worth a purchase sometime after starting the campaign. Bal, the Deathwatch core book is plenty for now. I'd actually ask that you don't read the adventure compilation coming out, as that is what I will likely be using. Davi, consider it reserved. So, thus far we are looking at this for a kill-team: Davi: Blood Angel Apothecary
Ellipsis and Catman are also welcome to join, they still have plenty of time to decide on reserving their places and their marines. Once I have the new book in hand, I will begin fleshing out the wiki. OK, now that the early Deathwatch discussion is out there, are there any new Oremor Affliction talking points anyone would like to discuss? We haven't had a chance recently to dissect the game in OOC and I like to periodically open things for discussion for any questions, concerns, or recommendations to improve the experience for everyone. Feel free to weigh in. Between Christmas shopping, prepping the house for the relatives and work it has been a tough week for me to post. I have finished the second round of the Pipesource battle, and started the third, but may only be able to post sporadically until the holidays are over. Provided there is still enough interest, now might be a good time to start concepting out Deathwatch characters for the Sons of Jericho campaign, as I plan on bringing the wiki online over the coming week while on vacation (hooray for free time!). Here's wishing everyone a Happy Holidays! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Posting has been slow the last couple of days because I'm in charge of the prep and cooking for the family dinner, and it has eaten up (pun intended) most of my free time. After things have settled down tonight, I will post a few turns and get us caught up. We can also be thankful that Rad will be returning to the game shortly, we've corresponded by email and I'm hoping to get him worked back into the game following the current scenes.
