Rokko waves his hands and mutters an arcane incantation, and a huge glob of green liquid flies from his fingers towards one of the undead. And no, he isn't flicking bogies at them, it's a Lesser Acid Orb. Roll to hit = 3 + 6 + 1 (for Point Blank Shot) = 10. Probably a miss, but if not, 5 + 1 (again for Point Blank Shot) = 6.
How does he know to do anything? How does he know how to heal, or repair himself, or use his domain powers? I certainly don't think it is much of a stretch to have him use any of his class powers. A party member who doesn't use his abilities is fairly dead weight - we should get extra xp for survivng encounters if one of us isn't going to be acting in their full capacity.
“Well actually, I wasn’t talking to you shorty,” Valessa replies nastily. “I was answering Mister Handsome over there,” referring to the orcish Ruuz. Uppity goblin.
"Yeah - so the fact I'm standing next to you obviously means you can't talk to me directly, does it? You humans are all the same - some petty litle kingdom and you think you own the whole of Eberron. We goblins had a empire that lasted thousands of years and fought off the daelkyr. You can't even fight off your neighbours! Sheesh - I came to Xendrik thinking that maybe I'd get less of this "It's only a goblin" stuff - looks like I was wrong."
Rokko folds his arms and gazes angrily at the middle distance.
“I’m not so sure about Rokko,” muses Valessa, looking at the goblin. “Historically, relations between orcs and goblinoids hasn’t been all that warm. And I know we’re not in Khorvaire anymore, but as I understand it, in the Shadow Marches at least, relations between humans and orcs are more cordial than with goblins and orcs. Quite cordial if the amount of half breeds are anything to go by,” she adds dryly.
“Oh, and you do speak Orcish?” she adds as an afterthought.
"No, I don't - and I'd prefer it if you didn't refer to me in the third person, thank you." Arrogant human.
“Goblin,” he snarled in a throaty voice, coughing and touching his wound when he raised his head in astonishment. Then he rested back down, and said, “Well, at least it is not some filthy orc,” giving her a toothy grin from ear to ear.
Ruuz kicks his feet up on the table in the center of the room and asks "Would you care to share one of your cigars, I have never had one and I am always one for trying new things?"
"By all means, old chap - don't inhale too deeply the first time, they carry something of a kick."
"I wonder if that sahuagin attack had anything to do with those rumours I heard about some shipping line putting a price on their heads....? We could look into that, but I have heard a few other possible rumours if we fancy something more immediate. House Deneith are looking for people and there's some big hole in the ground that seems to be exercising the locals somewhat. Or maybe we should see dear old Beren's benefactor?
"Glad I didn't fall in the drink, what! Would have ruined my cigars!" After lighting up and a few drags.... "Ah, that's better....
"Er, Valessa, old dear, um, fancy dividing up that money you have? Ah, thank you!"
Attached myself!! I'm key to the whole plot, it revolves around me! <sulks> You're only saying that 'cos I is green.
"Phew," says Rokko to Valessa, "That was close!" He pauses, and then asks, "Er, where is your shifter friend?" He turns and looks back at the ship. "Oh dear!"
I also can't add up right, since my total was 19. But that's my look-out, so I'll take the miss - I get the feeling that a strategic withdrawal may be the best answer, rather than attempting a miliary solution. For future reference, what exits are available from the boat?
Rokko decides its time for the little guy to make a stand. Well, attack from a well-hidden position. He fires his crossbow at the fishman that Beren flailed at.
I'm assuming it's within 30' for my Point Blank Shot to work. Using an action point (roll = 6). Roll = 8 + 4 + 1 + 6 = 16. Damage = 3 + 1 = 4.
His head bleeding from a scalp wound caused by a flying shard of wood, Rokko ducks below his table to hide. He immediately begins casting an incantation.
I assume my ducking down and hiding is my move action, and casting Shield is my standard action. I haven’t stated clearly, but my prepared spells are Shield and Charm Person. My move next round, unless events intervene, is to take out and load my crossbow, and look for the nearest feasible exit. Hide roll = 14 + 9 = 23. Oh yes, and a Spellcraft check - what is that lightning all about? Roll = 11 + 7 = 18.
Wow, that was quite a long read! Spending 1gp on drink and 1gp on food. OK, running with the skill checks:
Listen: 4 + 0 - 1 = 3
Spot: 2 + 0 - 1 = 1
Gather Information: 18 + 0 + 2 = 20
Survival: 9 + 0 = 9
Don't have Knowledge (Local): 5 + 3 = 8 (only been around a week or so)
A weedy goblin dressed in a purple fez and a jungle exploration outfit sits at the table next to Beren, Ruuz and Valessa. He leans over from his high chair and, extracting a foul-smelling cheroot from his mouth, says in a surprisingly cultured voice, "I say, did someone mention trouble? I've being trying to get into trouble all night! Ha ha!" he giggles, and then burps discreetly behind his hand. "Please excuse me.
"Seriously, though, I've got a few good leads around here and I'm looking for a group to" - his voice drops melodramatically - "plumb the depths of Xendrik. Ha ha! Fancy a bash? The name's Rokko - wizard-at-large." He extends a child-sized hand, slightly wavering under the influence of alcohol, in the general direction of the group.
As for why Rokko is in the Tethered Wench, well, after a long trip onboard ship to Xendrik to make his fortune, maybe it's time to unwind a little, find a "friend", that sort of thing.....
By the way, I asked if you were happy with the "orb" spells from Complete Arcane/Spell Compendium. I have shoved Lesser Acid Orb in Rokko's spellbook, but I can swap it out if you don't like it.
