Something people need to remember when stating that non-rogues end up being the trap finders for their parties, take a look at pg 38 of the beta rules:

"Trapfinding: Rogues (and only rogues) can use the
Perception skill to locate traps when the task has a
Difficulty Class higher than 20.
Finding a nonmagical trap has a DC of at least 10, or
higher if it is well hidden. Finding a magic trap has a DC
of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it.
Rogues (and only rogues) can use the Disable Device
skill to disarm magic traps. A magic trap generally has a
DC of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it."

Unless using the cleric spell, find traps, rogues are generally it for finding any trap that is any kind of threat to the party.

I let one of my players choose between Ranged Sunder and Ranged Disarm when he was attempting to deface a holy symbol in an evil clerics hand. I house-ruled a DEX based combat maneuver. Of course, since DC 15 is added to the CMB, the feat failed anyhow. It would have been cool though.

I want DEX based Combat Maneuvers in my PRPG!!!!!!

Check pg 81 of PFRPG Beta:

You are looking for Agile Maneuvers.

Ok, I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere at some time, and my search skills are simply lacking. Please forgive me if the answer is published somewhere and I am just blind.

My question is this: Would a magic item that grants a competance bonus to a trained only skill allow a character without ranks to use that skill?

For example, would Wings of Flying, which grant a competance bonus to the Fly skill, allow a character with no ranks in Fly to use the skill at the stated bonus (+ ability modifiers & ACP as appropriate) when using the item?

My instincts are torn on this. On one hand I think, 'Duh, it's a trained only skill. No it can't be used'. However, another part of me thinks, 'but it's a competance bonus, implying that the item magically imparts some knowledge or otherwise simulates a level of training in the skill. Yes it can be used'.

Thanks!

I've been using MapTool & InitTool from rptools.net for the last 3 months or so, and it has worked beautifully.
