Dogfish Darber was one of the most fearsome free captains to ever sail the Shackles. They say he ran through a Chelaxian privateer but left his entire cargo of jewels to drift out to sea, only keeping the slain man's hat as a keepsake. They say he once dived into the ocean at midnight to wrestle a kraken who stole a golden statue he'd rightfully plundered an hour before, and would have won, too, if it hadn't blinded him with ink as it fled. They say that was wanted by the Red Mantis for stealing a kiss from one of the High Killers herself, before hightailing out of port while grinning like a fool with a clique of assassins at his heels. They say that his father was a cyclops and his mother was a shark, that he drank poison at breakfast and acid at supper, and had a laugh like Asmodeus himself torturing a sinner.
They say that when he died on the prow of his burning ship Besmara herself met him at the bottom of the ocean to welcome him into her crew.
They say he had a woman in every port, and a legion of bastard offspring who would never know who their father was.
Except...that's not exactly true.
Renzuran Darber (not his given surname, but what he refers to himself as) is the illegitimate offspring of Dogfish Darber, as told to him by his mother, an elven working girl in Port Peril. Born a half-elf, Renzuran "the Runt" was always picked on in the human neighborhood he grew up in, not the least due to the fact that that his elf bloodline retarded his growth in relation to his peers. As they grew up and eventually drifted into piracy, Renzuran became obsessed with the idea that his father's legacy was his to inherit, and resolved to set out in order to claim his birthright as a free captain. Looking for guidance in achieving this goal, he turned to the worship of Besmara for direction, eventually becoming a fledgling priest.
Renzaren entered the Formidably Maid last night fully intending to offer his services to the next vessel that will take him. However a distraction in the form of an attractive corsair he met at the bar lead him to have a couple drinks too many; he soon found himself beaten senseless and shanghaied to an unknown location. You can be sure that when he finally regains consciousness he will be cursing himself for his stupidity and looking for a way out of this predicament.
Renzuran is a half-elf of average build, with sand-brown hair and pale skin. He dresses as a pirate, but his clothes are a bit too new and mark him as green even as the skull-and-crossbones holy symbol that hangs from his neck announces him as a follower of the Pirate Queen. A rapier hangs from his side, and when he draws it his eyes seem to light up with a manic glee that belies his usual serious scowl. His grin is crooked and unnerving, and is a dead giveaway of his parentage to all who knew his late father personally.
